  1. Hi all, I want a demo cd of FMSA from my FMI company.. They have sent me a FM PRO and FMSA cd... I installed the web publishing engine, everything seems OK, except it says FM SERVER could not be found...And, in the Instant Web publishing of FM PRO, nothing has changed...For instance, i have tried to change the language of the IWP interface from the web publishing engine, and it did not work. Therefore, it is clear that, FMSA and FM PRO don't know each other for now ? My question is very simple: Can FMSA run with FM PRO, If so, how? Or is FM SERVER needed, because if so, I will request an FM SERVER cd from my distributor. p.s: I know, you c…

  2. I have an FM7 database on a mac that is shared out to other users. Three users are opening the database remotely without problems, the fourth user gets a message that FM cannot create a temporary file on the system disk. I have closed the database and re-opened it, but the one user is still unable to remotely open the database. I cannot find any fm*.tmp files on the Mac, there is over 10gb of disk space. Any ideas?

  3. Hello, Anybody can tell me what does it means if my system logs (OS X 10.3.5) shows this kind of message: Sep 11 19.40.08 mycomputer- kernel LImiting closed port response from 253 to 250 packets per second this log is repeated several times. I think that someone is tryin' to cause a DoS on my machine but, at the same time, I'm asking myself (and now I'm asking you) if this log can be related to FMSA somehow (maybe there's some conflict with the TCP/IP port used by fm web engine) Any idea?? Any similar experience??

  5. First of all, I was hired to my job to do the website. Somehow they got me doing building their new database and maintaining the old one along with all their other tech support/printer crap and the rest. Funny thing is they actually ended hiring someone else to do the website when I didn't have enough time because of everything else. Anyways, I've been getting decent with fm7 but I don't know a thing about the servers and such. Onto the problem: The old database is filemaker 5 running on filemaker server 5 ( I think-I'm writing this from home) on a mac. Today, when the customer service reps downstairs tried going to a related file, filemaker really starts to wei…

We're running multiple copies of FMP5.0 on a MS2003 network. THe main DB is on the server in a shared folder. All machines are XPPro. Though relatively new to us, this environment has been stable for more than a few months. We have multiple copies of a script that generates a small export file for each field rep daily. This file contains records for the customers that field rep is going to contact the fllowing day. Everything has worked fine until recently and still runs fine from my machine. However, on the dispatchers machine up front, even if I log on with my FM credentials, I get an error stating " could not be created on this disk. Use a different name, ma…

Hi, I Think that Filemaker server 7 can process some calculations or script steps on the server machine to have faster, less networking bound, performance. Am-I correct, or it just limited to plug-ins ? Is there a list of the script steps and the calculation that can be processed on the server machine rather on the client ? Such a list would be a boon to optimize development. Is there a particular setting to enable this server side processing ? Since I don't use third-party plug-ins, is there a regular one (one shiping with fmp), that we should put on the server ? I'm thinking about the web companion (taht existed in 6), I use one of its …

  10. Using FM7 and sharing a couple of dbs. Some weird things are happening if anyone has some knowledge about these. The 3 dbs are hosted on my PC and Auto-started very early each morning using a default (read-only) privilege set. All 3 are related to each other. First, a user is working in the db and FileMaker simply shuts down. No message, no warning. Second, I'm presuming that my PC is counted as one of the possible 5 users allowed to access the dbs. Correct? Third, one of the users indicated to me that she has to enter her logonID and password more than once before she finally get access to the db(s). Has anyone experienced this? 14. Hi all My database has suddenly started not letting me modify any records upon opening a file as the host (although the file is located on my colleague's computer). It works fine and I can modify records when he is the host and I am the guest however. The weirdness really is that it never used to do this until a couple of months ago - and we have been sharing it without problems for the last 2 years... Any solutions to this problem would be gratefully received as I now have to wait to do anything on the database until he comes in in the morning (and he is often quite late - and I don't have a key to his office...). I'm trying to have FMS Advanced schedule a task that runs an applescript that opens a database in the client that runs a startup script. That startup script performs a script in the client. The problem is the applescript never gets executed. I run the applescript manually and it works, but it won't run through the Task Scheduler in FMS. The log says it ran the scheduled task. 18. In FMServer 5.5, is there a way to open an Administration window on the HOST computer similar to the "Remote Administration" I can run from the client computers? (The "Server Console" allows me to configure the server and access the Event Viewer, but offers nothing in the way of a screen displaying guests logged in, files hosted, etc.) I've looked through the manual and browseds various screens and can't find any way to do this, other than installing a copy of FileMaker Pro (client) on the host in addition to the Server program, and installing the Admin plug-in with it. Seems like their ought to be a way to marry Active Directory with our database so we don't have to maintain our list in multiple places. Can someone give me some pointers...I am new to this stuff. Apologies if this is not the right forum for this post.

  61. I'm running a simple 2 file database hosted on FM5 Server (on a Windows network). With all other files on the server I can change user through Access Privileges remotely. On the DB above I can open Access Privileges but the options are greyed and I can't change them. Even working directly on the server I can't change them. Any suggestions please. Thanks Stephen

  62. I was recently told there was a built-in feature in FM 6 Server that could automate backups -- I don't have a copy in front of me; so I wonder if anyone could enlighten me to this feature? Does it exist? Does it exist on the Windows side? Can you target another drive on a network, etc.?

  63. Hy everybody, I' m new here and i have a little problem with FMS 7. Ore company has just upgrade from FM 6 to 7. The owner and the group for the files are good chosen ( fmserver and fmsadmin ) When i go to Server admin - Local FileMaker Server Admin Start all sevices is selected, then start server = no problem so far... Then Start Filemaker Server - Local Hosts ( 127.0.0.1) CONNECTION FAILURE... is not running...Start Filemaker Server But it is running ? What do I wrong ?

  64. Hi all! We've just bought a new fms advanced and we've read about using one processor to serve our databases in our LAN and the other one for WPE. I'd like to know if you could use both processor to serve databases in the LAN, I'm afraid not,... Are you able to serve several databased stored in several servers? Any comments?

  65. Hi, If I have a set of value lists that display values from a second field, can I display those second field values in my web pages when using custom web publishing? Currently I only get the first values. My code (thanks in advance for your help) true id_award_year() checked

  66. FileMaker Server v7 - v11 · Started by dd,

We've just migrated a bunch of FM5 files to FM7 Server. Having jumped through a bunch of hoops already RE: networking, enabling remote viewing of files, re-installing due to weird 'bad login' message and etc., the one final thing that seems to be plaguing us is that when we restart the server or add databases and open them, this takes SOOOOOOO long. We just restarted and tried to open a new 196KB database and it took at least 15 minutes. I am not exaggerating--it may actually have been longer. Opening the entire set of databases (something like 20ish) seems to proceed in fits and starts, some files taking a ridiculously long time, others opening fairly quickly, but I …

  67. I have the FileMaker Server 7v3 running on a Windows 2003 Server. I was able to connect to the server via the FM Server Administrator Console until I changed the Client Authentication Method from "FileMaker Accounts Only" to "FileMaker and External Server Accounts" using the Domain Groups. I do require a password for the Administrator Authentication. I was able to use it to connect to the server for administration from the server or remotely until the change. Now I only receive "logon failed" when I type in the Administrator password. I can use the domain groups to remotely access the database. That feature works great! Why would the Client Authentica…

  68. I went through the postings I found but still don't know what the problem is... Sometimes it occurs that "...maximum numbers of licensed users are currently using this copy..." (you know) appears when a client starts FMP7 (.0v3). Is this still something FileMaker has to fix? I can't see any problem here...we're running FMS7.0v3, every client got it's own copy ov FMP7, server settings should be fine...so what is it?

  69. What's the deal with changing a global field from a client machine. It doesn't hold from session to session. If you want it sticky, do you have to quit the server and open the file on a regular FMP? If so, any better work-around? Also, love the new look, but I'm not sure the search is working well (only 1 hit for the word GLOBAL in all the forums???).

  70. I have a DB hosted on FMS 7. It has a container field to store documents (PDFs). Users run this application from their local system (client_local). They can add files to the container fields. What I want to be able to do is to save (export) a file in the container field to the server local directory tree (file system) and replace it with a file reference to the file stored on the server. Is this possible? It seems from my limited testing that when a user is running the DB from their local client, the DB is totally unaware of the local server filesystem. Thus any scripts I write try to access the clients local filesystem. I don't want users to locally mou…

  71. After experiencing several interuptions in service where the Web Publishing Engine went down, causing downtime for remote offices trying to access IWP as well as several PHP scripts that access different databases, I wrote my own shell script to check to see if it was still accessible. Part of the problem was that I've seen this happen where the WPE is still running, but it's no longer responding from the /fmi/config pages... I can log in, but can't get the WPE portion to respond. Sometimes it affects IWP right away, but sometimes it takes hours to eventually crash altogether. What I've done is check the web page for IWP to see if it's still returning "200 OK", …

  73. I am running FileMaker Server 7.0.3 on a Mac OS 10.4. Several times over the last couple of weeks, I have connected to the server with the Admin Tool and found all of my Back Up Schedules have disappeared? Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks.

  74. While reinstalling FM Server 7 it doesn't do a complete reinstall, it doesn't ask for install number etc. and the server doesn't show up in the services.

  75. Hi, I am using database sessions. I have had luck using the -edit command to edit a global field by -recid. Then I can retrieve the value with a query. It works fine for 15 minutes or so, but then I guess it expires and I can't restart a new session by setting a new value with -edit. It makes sense that I can't retrieve the value after 15 minutes because the session expires, but what do I need to do so I can begin a new session? So far the only thing that works is to edit the record with the files that the site assistant makes. So the site assistant works after the session expires, but my own files don't and I can't figure out why. Can anyone please he…

But my cache hit is always 99% to 100% all the time. I want to lower the cache hit to 95%. I wonder how I can increase the RAM, or whether I should worry about it. Thanks in advance. Jackson

I installed the v3 updates for both Server and IWP and now IWP has stoppped working. I can get to the IWP administration http://localhost/fmi/config, but the URL http://localhost/fmi/iwp returns a "not found" error. The configuration shows IWP as "on". I have rebooted and looked through the logs but nothing shows as obviously broken. Driving me crazy! Should I uninstall everything and reinstall?

  78. I have set up a container field in my database and store .jpg pics of clients in this field. I am using fmp 5.5 on a windows system. The files are on the server in a shared enviroment. I store all the files on the shared drive on the server with "Store only a reference to this file". Sometimes the picture shows up and sometimes I get the above error message. Also, teammember A can add the file and then no other teammember can view the file. I'm sure this is a simple solution that has been addressed many times before, but I haven't run across the answer yet. Anyone out there that can help? Thanks

  79. Hi As far as I know, I have FM server 7 installed and configured. I have my solution file in place and opened according to the server admin utility. On the same network, I have clients running FMP7. When I go to open remote, I get nothing listed in local hosts. I tried to specify the IP, but it does not show any files listed. I can ping the server IP from a client machine. I dont know why FMP and the server won't talk. My ONLY guess is that the firewall is blocking the port, but it seems unlikely since the server and clients are on the same local internal network. I can also host files using FMP on one of the client machines. All of the other PC's can…

  80. We are using FM Server Advanced, and data gets inserted into our database via the internet. For example our online store stuffs customer and order data from their system into our database. Works great. Later I go in and "sync" up the customer information so that users who checked the "contact me with update information" get subscribed to our mailing list database. I would like it if this sync happened automatically when a record was created in the server. How can I create a script that runs automatically on the server side when a record is created?

  82. Windows Server 2003 environment, using authentication against Active Directory, everything works fine. The question/issue: We can authenticate domain users (DomainA) to FMP Server 7 in the domain the FMP Server is installed, however, users in (DomainB) do not seem to be working. Both domains are in the Active Directory trusted forest. Admin users from one domain can log into the other. FMP Server however only seems to be authenticating against the one. Thank you for any thoughts!

  83. I have 2 users using an identical config, iMac with Filemaker 7.03, OSX 10.4.1. One one them periodically has an issue where typing comes to a crawl. After typing a whole sentence on the keyboard, only about half of the sentence is actually entered into the text field. Very slowly, the rest of the characters come in. Both users are accessing the same networked database. Quitting and relaunching FM seems to temporarily fix it, but it happens at least once a day. Has anyone experienced the same behavior? Could it be an OSX 10.4 thing?

  86. Hi, I am new to the forum and inherited a FileMaker Server environment for several departments. One department wants to use web publishing, so a test environment was created with FileMaker Server 7 Advanced running on MAC OSX 10.3.9 and the Web Publishing Core components. The Web server module and admin tools are installed on a Windows 2000 IIS 5 server and is used as the front end to the DB(Mac Filemaker). In order to get the pages to work, IIS 5 authentication needs to be disabled for the entire default site, which is where it is installed by default. Now, the permenant location that it will be living at will need to have authentication for the default site. A…

  87. Hi, heard of a few people who updated to 10.4.2, after which their Server 7 Advanced was disabled in the sense that they try to either show the databases (fmi/iwp) or the configuration console (fmi/config) in the browser and get 'page not found'. Has anyone done the update already? I think I'll wait until I see that FMI confirms it should work ;)

  88. Hi there, I have built a new DB system with about 30 related FMPro7 databases hosted on Filemaker Server 7. I am setting up the Accounts and Privileges and I am trying to gear it so that once someone has entered their UserID/password for one of the databases they dont have to do it for every other one at the same security level. That is, once they have logged in once they dont need to do it again. The previous DB system (built in FMPro6) has some kind of system which opens all related DBs in the background but minimises them - they appear in brackets in the Window menu. I'd like to set up the same process in the new FMPro7 system.

  89. Hi all, We're running an FM Server 5.5 under Windows 2000. I understand that keeping "windows file sharing" turned off is a big time requirement. Coming from a UNIX background, I would like to install cygwin so that I can run an sshd server on the Windows 2000 box so I can make backups from a UNIX-based backup server [currently the FM Server is making local backups to a separate directory on the same PC via the FM backup function]. I would like to know if installing sshd is considered 'safe' since to FileMaker Server. I assume so, but I wanted to check with the wizards here first. Thanks, /vjl/

  90. Hello: I am running Filmaker Server 5 on a Windows 2000 Professional server. We have 12 client computers on our network. We are losing connection to the host with the following error (Communication With The Host Was Interrupted (20). This usually happens at night and we discover the problem the next morning trying to access files. Also, sometimes we are unable to open files and get an error that the file is Single User and cannot be opened. I've checked the Server's Application log and find the Message (User No Longer Responding, Connection Closed (17)). This seems to happen in the evening at about 9.30 pm and the message is repeated for all client co…

  91. I am using Filemaker 7 Pro and Filemaker 7 advanced to host databases. I use Filemaker site assistant to export the file into xslt code then I take the xslt code and try to change the background, but when I do try this and drop these files back on the server to host the database I get an error. When I change the code I am using either Dreamweaver or notepad, but either one makes any difference when I drop it back on the server because the file errors out when viewed on the web. If I change the file and preview it in Dreamweaver it works exactly the way I want it, but not when I go drop it back on the Server. Could someone please help.

  92. I have been working on FMSA on my powerbook to get it working. I am setting it up on another machine so that I can look at both screens for settings, etc. However, on the second machine FMSA shuts down after just a few seconds of use. I assume that since I have the same installation code on both machines, it is stopping so that you can't use one copy on multiple servers. Is this correct? Also, now that I have taken my powerbook off of the network, I can't access the administration page any longer. I get an error message that says that I don't have access to server adminstration page. Any advice? Thank you, John C. Foster

  93. FileMaker Server v7 - v11 · Started by Moe,

I am running Server Advanced. I have enabled database sessions in the publish engine config, but I cannot seem to use them. I am using XSLT. I want to put some data in a global field, then access that data from a filemaker script, as well as from the web. I tried the method described in the CWP manual, where you say ?-db=whatever&-lay=whatever&globalfield.global=whatever&-script=somescript&-new but it doesn't work. Can anyone give me a hint? Thanks, Moe

Hi all, So we recently discovered that FM 7 (or, more to the point, FM Server 7) will not meet our needs, and are looking to back-port our databases to FM 5.5. Now, the databases that we have created do not use any new functionality - anything that we used was available in FM 5.5. Is it possible in any way to easily backport this?

  95. I have a FM server7.03 running on an Os X.3.9 box, serving half a dozen files. At random (as far as I can tell) intervals, one of the files suddenly showes up as closed when I check in the admin app (or is unreachable when accessing over TCP/IP through clients). It affects only one file, always the same, so I suspect something is corrupted with this file, although it behaves just fine when I work with it, or there is a setting I am not aware of. I have an automated backup script that runs twice a week, but I have not been able to see a clear relation with finding a closed file... and it never closes while I am working on it.

  98. I have around 40 files sharing via FMS 5 and FMS is configured on Windows 2003 server. I have no idea why the performance of the files were extremely slow when the file running on FMS. As I have tried open a same file directly on my computer and running a same script, it will only take around 5-8 seconds to complete the whole process, but it took more than 1 mins when a file was opened via FMS. And, same problem when modify the fields in [Define field], it will take around 30 mins to recalculate the fields for around 7500 records (file size is 170MB), but it will only take 5 mins if opened a file locally. Is it the FMS itself problem? How to fine tune the…

  99. We currently have FMP 5.5 Server Software on a Windows 2000 Server and am upgrading to Windows 2003. Is FMP 5.5 Server Software compatable with Windows 2003 Server? We have 200+ user, so an upgrade to FMP 7.0 is not in the plan, plus all my reading tells me it is not seamless and we have some very complex DBs that could not be rewritten in the required timeframe. Any inrformation is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  100. Does anyone have any info on a version of FMP Server (I think version 6) that runs on Windows 2003? I called FileMaker directly, but they've told me I must upgrade to FM Server7 if we upgrade our server to 2003. I heard from a vendor that there is a version of server, called FileMaker Server (?no version) that works on Win 2003 (for fmp 6 files). I guess FileMaker.com is pushing people to upgrade to 7 which isn't necessary just yet. I can't find any info on this, but we need to research and probably purchase this version of FM server. TIA, Heather
