    I'm needing a little clarification on something. I have a whole bunch of records, and a whole bunch of PDFs that I need to send out to the right person. The title of PDF includes a page number of a book spread I need a particular contributor to read and sign off. I have that same page number in the record where the info on the contributor resides. Is there a way to conditionally attach the corresponding PDF to the correct person's email? I've tried making the specified email attachment be seen as a Calculation like: Case(MyTable::MyPageNoField = "1" ; filepath to page 1 pdf; ... etc but it doesnt want to work. Any further ideas?

    I want to use "SendMail" command. It sends a single or multiple mail programatically on the basis of found set. But i could not send multiple attachments. Even manually adding multi attachments, it sends only one attachment. Is there any setting which restricts to send multi attachments?     Righto then, i have filemaker 8 pro... yet despite what i read somewhere the send mail script step still asks me to specifically reference a particular file instead of allowing me to reference a field with a file path or something similar... i know a way i could do it with one static attachment with the user being able to change the file and it just exporting to the defined location... but i need multiple attachments for different user modifiable and addable email templates etc...     Hi there, I've been sending huge batch emails out as text using the 'Send email' script-step and Applescripting to Entourage, with great success. The emails are autogathered using a lot of personalised fields from my customer database, but now the powers that be would like to incorporate HTML. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to compose in HTML, which can be peppered with the same kind of personalised fields as I had going with the text emails? Paul

    Is there any way to set the "Send Mail" script step so that it allows the user to select an email attachment? I'd like to be able to open up some sort of browse window so that the attached file could be selected at the moment of creating the email. I have a feeling that there is some way to place a file in a global container field and then reference that as that file to attach, but I can't figure it out. Thanks Jake :P

    I have set up a send mail script, and assigned it to a button... I am in a 5 computer LAN and the script works on all computers, however on 2 of the 5 the default signatures are placed at the bottom of the email. I have verified all of the pref's are the same. I have even tried deleting pref's to create new ones. How can I make the Signatures show up on the emails?

  8. I have a very particular problem with a client who is using Outlook. When I script to create an email (but not have the email sent without dialogue), my users must actually send the email before they can either return to Filemaker or do anything else in Outlook. I don't, however, experience the same problem on my Mac with Mail. (And the Outlook users can create messages, keep them open, and do other things in Outlook normally.) What is going on, and how do I fix it? Has anybody else had this problem? (Oftentimes people will need to do other things before sending the mail.)

    I have FM7 and was told to purchase the smtpit pro plugin for emailing thru FM. I really don't know how to use this plugin. I am wanting to send a record through smtpit pro but I have no idea how to go about it. The documentation that comes with the plugin doesn't seem to be very helpful. Any tips and/or tricks, any leadway into the right direction would be great, thanks!

    This is a Mac OS X 10.4x installation. We would like to be able to email a personalized PDF to a subset of our address file and incorporate information from a linked table in the PDF. This is a registration database. We want to be able to send out a pdf (with letterhead graphic) reading "Dear Someone, Thank you for registering for some class.     The website for FMPRO (as did the salespeople for the company) indicated that I could email container fields using FMPRO 8. OK, so they have added the email to the menu bar rather than having to script it - helpful yes, but how do I email the pdf file contained in the container field? I hope the answer isn't that it has to be saved in a file on the desktop or something to that effect.

  14. My desired end result is to email one record having formatted HTML embeded in the body of the email. In DreamWeaver, I created my HTML template and where field data would go I added <> tags. In my database I have a global field that contains the HTML code I copied from DreamWeaver. I have a calculation field which uses Sustitute to convert the <> tags to the record fields. In the Send Mail step I specify in the message body the global that contains the formatted HTML. Instead of formatted HTML in the email I get the same HTML code from DreamWeaver. I want to put a button in the layout that will email to the designated recipient the contents of the several fields in the current record. All I can get it to do is send the details from just one field. How can I get it to send the information from about 12 fields from the same layout, same record, in the email?     We are hosting a membership database for a non-profit organisation on fmp 6 unlimited. They need to also keep a current copy of the database on their computer. I've been trying to create a backup and email button that would create an ascii file from the fm and email, zip it and email it to them. I've created a home page where they logo on, I would have the backup button there because once logged on, they use instant web publishing (to save the cost down). I would also need to use Azium Events to schedule daily emailing. Tx for your help, Yves

    My client tells me that since she upgraded to the latest version of Entourage (I'm not sure what that is...), every time she runs the group email script in the database, she gets a preview window for every message to be sent. I changed nothing in the script; it sets global fields for the message body, finds a set of recipient records, loops through those records and sends out a separate email addressed to the recipient.     I use the specify mail feature in FM 7 to send emails of final invoices to my clients. I've noticed that when I look at the saved emails in my sent folder the "To:" field is blank. This is annoying because sometimes it is necessary to have confirmation that an email was sent. I can verify using the date in a field in my database but I would like to be able to see the data in my email client as well. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is this just inherent with sending email w/ the specify mail feature?     I've been using SendMail by Digital Fusion in FMP7 to send email messages in the background, triggered by user actions in IWP, such as pressing a button "Send." However, I am planning t upgrade to FMP8 the the pluggin no longer works, even the version request simply returns "?." The vendor says it's a Filemaker problem. I trialed versions of several other plugins, including SMTPit Pro, email.it, PriorityMail, and NONE OF THEM WORK IN IWP using FMP8. Is this an FMP8 bug or is there something else I need to do to get mail plugins to work in FMP8?

    Hi, I'm wondering if there's a plug-in, Applescript solution, or other means by which I could create a record in a FMP database by email. Essentially, I'd like to be able to send an email with the body: firstname: John lastname: Smith phone1: 800-555-1212 ... and have FM create a new record and populate it with the data included in the body of the email.     I have written a script in our FM7 database so that the user can click a button and it will generate a PDF of a quote, and then open an email message with some text, an email address drawn from the database, and the PDF as an attachment. It works great when we're working on the computer that hosts the database, but when we use "open remote" to access the DB from another computer it doesn't work at all. It seems to me that the PDF is being created on the host machine, but the email is being sent from the client machine, so the PDF can't get attached to the email. But I'm a novice at FM so I might be totally wrong about what's going on. Any advice?

What we do in radio pledge is that we solicit donor for challenge grant and bonus gift (usually are in-kind) to offer our listeners.     I fear the solution is blindingly obvious - to all except me. I have written a simple organisation membership db for a friend and she wants to be able to generate a list of email addresses which she can then copy and paste - presumably into the Bcc field. I'm running FM 7/8 w/ Server and want a method to allow a user to click a button on an order screen to email just a few fields and a line of text to the designated CSR for the account to let them know an order has been placed.     Running FMP 5.5 Server on mainly Mac platform. One client(Mac OS 10.3) can not use the send mail feature. Nothing happens when they click on a button used for sending an email. It creates an email with a few fields added into the message. It works on any other client. I have noticed this before and was only able to fix by updating to FMP 6. I no longer have that option. I have reinstalled Filemaker 5.5 and the v2 updater. I reinstalled Entourage Office X. Nothing.

    Hi everyone. In my form i did a button that open my default email appliaction 'Lotus' and user jus need to enter any more information they wish to state then click send. I put it up on IWP but users who do not have FM when clicked the button nothing happened, users can only choose 'submit'. And I finally found out why from the filemaker 7 guide book i bought.     My client wants to be able to send an mass html e-mail to mimmic the look of a mailed letter. Basically all it involves is placing their logo at the top on the right hand side. A simple table would do fine. I know HTML well enough to be able to code this by hand (or so I thought), so I just modified the body field in the SendMail script to be "HTML code here" & message_body & "END HTML code" When it gets to outlook, it just copies the text over as if it wasn't HTML at all.     My client wants to add mail merge functionality to their FM-based contacts DB. They have created layouts within their existing FM file that print as form letters. I am re-doing the DB in kiosk mode so as to limit their ability to screw up layouts, scripts, etc. This will, however, also limit their ability to change or add these form letter layouts. However i'm kind of stuck on some issues and was hoping for some guidance. Apperantly I'm supposed to have A local mail server. Which I don't, and I was hoping someone might suggest an easy to use, cheap simple program for this purpose. The plugin uses SMTP relay and it asks for the address of the SMTP server and what port to use.   66. The send mail script step seems to do nothing with Thunderbird 1.0.2. Where before, in Entourage, the mail would appear in the outbox, Thunderbird does nothing. No message appears in the outbox. It would seem that Filemaker is not capable with working with Thunderbird. Has anyone else solved this problem or aware of it? In a different thread, a plugin was suggested to bypass the e-mail client. Is this the only solution?

    Please help this newbie! My issue is... when perfoming a "send mail" script, Entourage opens up or comes to the front like it's "trying" but nothing goes beyond that. I have a couple of different files that I'd like to send mail to. One has approx. 5,000 people and the other has about 3 - 400. I have a "split recipients" script in Entourage in order to compensate for Verizon not letting me email more than so many per day. But I cant get the email to come up. After creating a group and then selecting send email - the email addresses are inadvertently DOUBLED in the Send To: area of the Mail application.   72. Hi, I am using an ODBC driver to query and import data from a DB2 database. Users have their own passwords and login id to the DB2 database. There would be a button to be clicked to query and import the data from DB2. I want that the users should be prompted with the password dialog box and once they enter their password, the entire import process should be automatic. I have tried working and it works fine when I save the user name and password permanently into the script.   74. I'm getting the following error message every time I try to attach anything through FileMaker via the email script. Here's what I get: "Microsoft Outlook Message: The operation failed due to network or other communication problem." I can go into Outlook and email the same attachment without problem, but doing it via FM gives me this message. (Running FM7.3 Dev on XP, also running MS Office 2002). I figured out how to send one email but what I want to do is be able to select a bunch of contacts by whatever criteria and then email a message using BCC with the main address (the one that's visible) being my own. (for example, a list of First names of everyone in the database.)     Hi, My application downloads some data from other datasources. The data should be downloaded only once in a day and by the first user who logs on to the application. I can think that I can store the date of download. When the user logs in to the application, I would check if the date matches current date. If yes, I would not download it again. To store the date, I cannot use a global field because it gets initialized everytime whenever client closes the application on his/her workstation.     I have several scripts which use Send Mail and had been working okay. My mail program is Novell's GroupWise (6.0). Suddenly stopped working this weekend. No traceable changes to system. When I uncheck "No dialog" to watch what happens, FileMaker will prompt me to provide my GroupWise password if it isn't open yet. And then it skips past the rest of the Send Mail process. If Groupwise is alread open, it simply skips past the step. Anyone have any guesses? Any known conflicts with security certificate settings or config settings? Help.

It works most of the time, but sometimes when the email opens it will be completely blank, even though it still performed the find and the script did not stop. Cancelled Scheduled Closed Cancelled I want to calculate how many "Cancelled" records are present in the child table. I understand that I can create a calculation field in the child table which would return 1 (one) if the date is "Cancelled" and then using a summary field, I can find the sum of calculation field. All the work on the database was done by someone who worked here a few years before I started, so I know less than a little bit about what's happening behind the interface. I tried using set field(gDateField,"") Since I have assigned an empty string to a date field, it always shows "?" (Question Mark) instead of emptying the field. My first question is how can we empty a global date or a date field? My second question is how to find records in a file which contains data in one of the date fields?     Hi, I don't know much about FM7. I need to add an item loaned out box in the home inventory template, that will email either or both me and the person I type in that has the item. Or even some type of alert that would pop up telling me that the item has been out for either 7 or 14 days. I am using the standard home inventory template for items.     Greetings All! I, like alot of people, was dropped into using FileMaker as our main Problem Tracking and Asset Data base. What happens is a user can "Report A Problem" on our Intranet and have it email me and it also logs the problem into our problems data base. The issue I have is that the mail function that I am using does not constantly email me. Once in a blue moon I will get an email. We are using a script called FX.php that calls on a mail function to do the emailing. Is there a more streamlined way of doing this?

    Hi Everyone, I have a field where data would fill up dynamically. The data is mostly numbers like 1, 3, 3, 4. This might go to 100. This field needs to be shown to the user but the user should not be able to edit any information on this field. I have an option to keep field length big enough to show 100 numbers but then GUI does not look in good shape. The second option which I tried was to use a vertical scroll bar and uncheck the option to allow entry for a user.     I've just switched from years of using FMP5 with Macs. I am now using Windows XP. Never before have I had any problem sending emails in all sorts of configurations from my databases. Now the simple SEND MAIL script will not work. OUTLOOK EXPRESS version 6 is set as my default mailer. I use FMP5. Is OUTLOOK v6 compatable with FMP5 email script step?     HI, I have experienced problems using FileMakers Send Mail command. If the mail app is set up to send messages with a default signature, FMP ignores the setting and creates new messages with no signature.     This is my last attempt to find an answer before I give up. I'm trying to get a test page up and running that will have FM Pro (not server) send an email. I'm copying and pasting the sample text in the CDML reference. When I click on the "Send Message" button and then check the Error.log I get the error message: "ERROR: -101. Error occurred while sending email." No email is ever received. I check the -MailHost and -MailTo values and they are valid. Any clue what I could be doing wrong? Could I have the MailFormat file in the wrong directory? What directory should it be in if I'm using the Web Companion to publish the db? Thanks in advance. Bob

    this may seem very basic - but I'm stumped. I have been effortlessly sending emails from Filemaker on Macs with Eudora and the simple SEND MAIL script step for years. No problem. But now that I have switched from Macs and I am using Windows XP and Outlook Express 6--- nothing happens at all. I can email directly out of Outlook. It is set as my default mailer.
