    I'm very concerned about how FileMaker 7.0v3 handles a go to related record command when there are no records in the child table which satisfy the conditions of the relation. (This is related to the changes which FileMaker made in how a constrain find works if there are no records found.) If I do a go to RR in a script, and there ARE records which satisfy the relation, the target layout becomes active, and the found set of related records are shown (I thought this was only supposed to happen with a specific show window command, so color me confused.) I'm stumped right now on what I assumed to be a very basic function (and I'm sure it is and I just don't know what I'm doing)! ;-) I have a database for a conference registration form.     Here's my problem of the week: I have a text field that the user typically pastes a block of text into, and I would like to reset the font/size of the text so that it shows up properly on different layouts. But Filemaker 7 now retains formatting information with the pasted text, so even though it should be displayed in Verdana 14 pt on one layout and Verdana 11 pt on a different layout, it now displays in the pasted font/size on both layouts. In Filemaker 6, this could be cured in a script using Set Field (field, field), but this trick no longer works. I can use an auto-enter calculation to reset the font/size, but this doesn't "get rid" of the formatting, and…

    I have created an application which contains a portal on a particular screen. The portal contains a large number of records and it would be helpful to be able to search the portal to find a particular record, make some changes and then return to the original portal showing all of the data.   5. I am making a cross platform Medical Scheduler. I did a cumborsome calendar in the older FM5 version of my DB. I am recoding the whole think in FM7. I was looking for a technique or a plug in that allows me to create a fast, easy, calendar that will work in Mac OS X and in Windows XP/2000. The calendar should be easy to include, have dates that I can click to jump to that date and the ability to color code days that I flag as OR Day, On Call day, Office Day etc...     My goal was to redo my solution with multi tables in one file. I created new tables in 7 with fields indentical to 6. converted each 6 file into a 7 one at a time then imported the records from the individual 7 tables into my multi table solution All of the tables imported except one table. The progress bar showed records were being imported. The dialog box says 32802 records imported, but when I go to the layout no records are there. I did this 3 times, once I created a new layout Same results. I did make sure the found set included all records. I am using 7.03

    Cat -- I can assure you that setting a field to "" WILL uncheck the checkbox. It will be an empty field. You may be seeing (or not seeing) the portal not being refreshed. Try this: clear the field, then change into Preview mode, then back into browse mode to force the screen and portal to refresh completely.     Right now my application allows the user to perform a search on one window then show the results onto a new window. The problem that I am having is that when they keep the results window open and go back to the window where they perform the search and conduct a different search I can't get the new results to show in the existing results windo. The existing open results window always retains its current found set. Does anyone know how I might refresh the existing results window with the new found set. Thanks.

    Hi, I want to create a patient report and have no idea how to do it. I've attached the file. There are 4 tables. Patient Chart, Encounters, Scans, and Medications. The ideal report would print the chart first, which is just one page of demographics. Then it would print the related encounters, but here's the tricky part. Each encounter may have a scan attached to it. They're related. This is nice because it's easier to just snap a picture of the injury then spend all night describing it.     Is it possible to create a field in a Timecode format and calculate it? I want a user to enter in timecode in and out in this format ( 00:00:00:00 ) It has to calculate (hours:minutes:seconds:frames) and output the total to give the user the duration of the clip. I haven't been able to figure it out a formula or anything else to get this to calculate properly... Also, how would I create an Imput mask for this?     Well here comes one that will test even JT and Fenton, The file is attached, and Admin, password = Admin will get you in. This file for some reason is not modifiable, at least that is what it says. I am logged in as Admin and yet it tells me to stick it. I can't even change my password. What's up with that? In one place the user clicks a button which should open a small Window for new product information to be entered. When the window opens at the small size, the original layout in the background disappears completely and then when the small window is closed the original large layout appers in the small window. I have a FM7 server served solution that uses quite a few drop down lists that are derived from relationships.. but there's a problem....when connecting over our network, it takes a few seconds for the pop-up list to populate once clicked into.. Is there some way I can prepopulate the value list so that the user doesn't have to wait a few seconds after clicking into the field ?     I currently have a field which appears like a radio button yes/no format and have been useing a script which when the field is yes then it goes to a new layout or if no it fills in the no and lets you go on to the next field. I want to be able to adapt this so if the field is yes it goes to one layout and if no it goes to another. However the way i have it set up the field is blank to start with and when you first click on it , it will go to no then you click a second time it goes to yes...the problem is that when it first goes to no it follows the script and takes you to te no layout, so you have to then go back amnd click a second time...not very neat. the script…

  24. I have two relational files, Tech Dept and Functions. A list of functions is created from within a portal in each Tech Dept record. This was working fine, now I'm finding that if I try to delete any record from Tech Dept, the whole thing hangs and I have to force quit FM. If I remove the relational requirment in Functions to delete related records when a TD record is deleted, things work fine. I can delete Function records either way without incident. Using the same layout in Table 2, when displaying all records in Table 2 and all associated records from Table 1 (through a portal), I have no problem. I uninstalled FMP7 from both PC's (and restarted both) so I could reinstall with the correct user and license Key.     I am fairly new to filemaker and I am building a cemetery database for our local geneaolgy department. We have taken pictures of all gravestones in our community and people can access our database online when researching there family history. However, no matter what size the original picture is, when it is viewed online it becomes stretched and skewed alomost like it is made to fit a default frame size. When the pictures are inserted into filemaker they look fine, they onlky appear stretched when viewed online. Can anyone help?

    I have an invoice that needs to be printed out. We have multiple copies that need to be printed out (customer, issuer, and filed copies). Is there an easy way to get 3 different pages to print out from 1 layout. Most of the layout will be the same with slight variations between some of the pages. I could put them on seperate layouts and have the script go to and print each one but I do need to have the print dialog box displayed so the user can select a printer. My concern is if I do it that way, then they will get a print dialog box for each layout being printed. Any one found a good way to get around this or have suggestions?

    Hi Guys, I've got a small problem: Got a Global field giving me an Invoice Nr. now I would like to make it look better, instead of just "1" I would like it to be "0001", "0002"..."0010" etc. I've also got a Date conbined in it, like this: Right( "0000" & Year ( Get ( CurrentDate ) ) & Right ( Month ( Get ( CurrentDate ) ); 2 ); 4 ) & RGNr::RGNr & "-1" its the "RGNr::RGNr" wich is a global field to be formated.     I would like to know how I use a script to uncheck a checkbox. Its a simple value list that contains one value "ADD", when checked it allows that record to be viewed in a portal with others that were checked. A few issues that I quickly became stumped by. 1: I wanted to import some sample data into my tables in order to see how it works.     So I created a pretty cool object management system in FMP7 for PC's, but Mac's obviously can't view objects, or even insert objects. They can only insert files and then export the file out. Is there any way to open that file up with it's associate program, like word, excel, etc.? Double clicking doesn't work, you can't drag it to the program, it just doesn't seem to work unless you export the field contents out. Thanks!

    Hi, I am trying to make a cool looking splash screen. I have it working now but I don't like the way it looks. Is there a way I can make a layout without any borders, scroll bars, etc? I want it to look like the Filemaker 7 application splash. I tried to script it all... you know.. no scrolls, hide status, etc... but even when I do that it 'flashes' for a second (I guess before the script kicks in). I want to have a true splash, not a splash that looks like a normal layout that opens, then changes (via script.. no status, etc.). Can someone help me out?

    Hi, I have some issues regarding IWP. I have two files..a) a database file, and : a custom html file. I have set IWP option On for the database file. How do I tell IWP to display the customized html file? In version 6, in the Web Companion Configuration dialog box, in the Web Companion User Interface section, from the Home page drop-down list, i can select the custom html page. Here is another item I'm trying to wrap my head around. Is it possible to pass the criteria for a find script via the ScriptParameter? Dynamically? As an example from an earlier question ... if I want to find all the companies that start with "A" I do a find with ==A* then create and store a find/restore script.   51. Hi, I have a database where we want users to select search criteria using checkboxes but to have those "checked" results displayed as a comma delimited string when browsing records. Seems to me that the older versions of FM used to store checked results as comma separated strings. Now that I'm using version 7 I see the checked results all show on a separate line in the field (When simply dragging the field to a new layout for browsing records). So the items are separated by vertical tabs. Am I crazy or did older versions use commas? Anyway, what to do ... Is there a setting somewhere for changing the delimiter between checked items?   55. I know in FM 7 you can manipulate text colour, font, etc. based on the value of the text (such as if status is Open, the text is green, if it is closed, the text is red). BUT, is there a way to manipulate the background colour of a text area the same way? Reason for my asking is that I have a button to submit a record. Over that button I have a text area with a transparent background showing the status (unsubmitted). I want to change the background colour of the text area to match the background of the record/layout when the record is submitted, so the button "disappears".

    I am working on a database to keep track of car maintenance for a fleet of 20 cars. If a car requires being towed in, I have to use a rotating list of three different wrecker services. Currently my dispatcher has to look on the current wrecker list to see which service was used last. Then he knows to use the next wrecker service on the list. Say I have three wrecker services, Service One, Service Two, and Service Three. I need to be able to create an unlimited number of records regarding car maintenance and if I need a wrecker for one of my cars, I want the dispatcher to be able to look at the screen and see the next service to be used automatically displayed.

    Hi all, I'm trying to create a clickable alphabet line such that clicking "A" will return all the company names that begin with "A", "B", "C" etc. What I can't figure out is how to perform such a search. According to the manual the =char* format does this but only for Japanese fields. Surely there is another way.   65. Hi, I am a fairly new user coming from MS Access. In Access I have to have everyone log off and turn off the program in order to back up and / or make changes to the primary file. Is it the same with Filemaker? I will have a pretty large database at multiple sites (about 100 miles away).     I have a list of keywords. They are in a field with check boxes. An average record could have anywhere from 2-4 check boxes checked. What I'm trying to do is; if a certain keyword is selected(checked) I want to increase the value of a numeric field. This(below) doesn't seem to work.   73. Hi- Is there a way to "lock" a field so that it can't be edited without first performing an action (pressing a button/clicking checkbox). I want to be able to have users enter data into a field, then once it is in there, lock it so that it can't accidently be edited.   80. Hi, I have a database full of food products that we sell, prices and descriptions. We often need to create personalized menus for the restaurants to which we sell food. Right now I have a menu layout that works fine, the main problem is that it's kind of tedious to go through and omit each of the hundreds of products that aren't on the menu until I have only the ten or so that I want on the menu. I'd like to set up an easy kind of "find" where I'm presented with a checkbox for each product name, and then the database finds all the checked products. What's the easiest way to do this? Thanks!     I have a self join setup that is of a parent-child relationship. With some of the records, there are multiple level parent-child relationships. What I'm trying to achieve is to get a list of parent-child-grandchild, etc. Using a portal I can achieve the first relationship but haven't been able to figure out a good way to get the entire tree of relationships. Eventually I will need to get a count based on a quanity field of the children and grandchildren but first things first. I used FileMaker fairly extensively with 5.5 but haven't in several years and am new to 7 so I haven't worked all the news features out yet.

    The solution i'm working on right now will have two main windows: A navigation window - this is not only the nav menu for the system, but also the nav / functionality window per each table. the data window. At any given time, other windows may be open as well, to view a quick list, select from a list, etc etc. I would like to include a button that goes back to the original state of the solution which is having only the main navigation window open on the system navigation layout.     I love the fact that FileMaker 7 allows for defining a field to Auto-enter by calculation and using that field in the calculation. I used to create two fields for every date field in my solution. One text field for the entry of the date without slashes like "01012004" and one calculation field whose result would return a formatted date like "1/1/2004". I thought I would be able to just define a date field(Date), tell it to auto-enter by calculation using: Date ( Left(Date;2); Middle(Date;3;2) ; Middle(Date;5;9999)) and be done with it.
