Hello everyone, Can anyone help me with an annoying layout problem please? My solution includes an auditing layout with a number of printed questions (of varying length) in a "shrink to fit on printing" field (A) on the left with a corresponding empty box for ticks on the right (. Is there any way I can get the empty field (: for the ticks to correspond in length when printed to the field containing data (A) without the user having to manually enter carriage returns in ( to match the number of lines entered in the first field (A)? I hope this is the proper forum for this: I have a simple sales report. Each line item summarizes the sales activity of a given dealer. There are no Body parts in this report. The summaries are sorted by dealer, then by total sales -- best performer at the top. Viewing the sorted report in Preview mode, the report works perfectly, with one maddening flaw. When (and only when) there are more than 500 to 510 records in the found set being summarized, the TOP dealer on the report shows incorrect summary totals-- Switch to single-record Browse mode and the correct totals are displayed! I have a simple layout with only a merge field preceeding a regular field. The merge fields' contents are only one line, but the regular fields' content varies from a paragraph to half a page. My problem is that I would like only a single newline between the first entree's field and the next entree's merge field, but instead I am getting inconsistent vertical spacing (possibly due to sliding?). How exactly do I make it so that there is only one new line after each field and before each merge field? Thanks!

What about setting the actual font of a field based on the data in another field? What about the vertical location of a field based on the data in another (calculated field)? I'm struggling with what should seem to be a simple issue, but I'm stumped. I have a text field which has content of varied length (anything from 3 lines to a couple of pages). The problem is that I can set the field in sliding/printing to shrink, but I can't get it to expand - so if it is more than the maximum space I've allowed the text gets cut off in preview mode. Any suggestions for how I might format layouts/reports so that I can produce an indented list? Specifically, if I have a chart of accounts with basically two fields, accountNumber and accountName, can I get the sub-accounts to indent? I am making a Layout to print some envelopes. In order to make the navigation easier on the envelope layout I added some buttons in the header. However when I print the envelope it also attempts to print the Header buttons. I then tried to change the header to a Title Header thinking maybe it would skip the printing, it doesn't. Hi All, I'm creating a questionnaire for subjects in a psychology experiment. I have one table containing all of the questions, and have created a separate layout for each question (so one question appears per layout along with a "next" button advancing you to the next layout with the next question on it). I want to include validations such that people MUST respond to each of the questions before moving forward. When I have tried to do so, it seems that the program wants ALL of the conditions for the entire table met for each layout/question. I have a layout with a report: Agent fees by year. My problem is when one Agent has salary plus taxes monthly (2 lines), I need to make a third line : Subtotals (by month). Hi there, I am working on two different solutions and in one of them when I insert a global filed on the "header" or "title header" areas they become inactive! This is happening while I have global fields are working normaly on the "header" part in my other solution. I'm totally confused. Does anyone know why this is happening? I'd appreciate any help. I have one file, with 2 different layouts. I would like to hide certain records from layout one, but would like to see these records in layout 2. I've noticed in several sample files I've downloaded that the developer placed the header,body and footer on the left side of the screen allowing an unobstructed view while setting up your layout. In version 6 I have a file set up in layout mode that is view 1 page at a time. If I browse it, I see one page at a time. If I look at it in preview mode, I see a page between 1 and 2 that is a partially formated (some of lines,but no data) If I print all pages this page prints.If I print and select page 1 or page 3 it does not print. If I browse all pages, I do not see a page between 1 and 2. I have tried entering more data for up to 5 pages and then deleting pages 1 to 3, but it stills shows(the partially formated page) when I print, or look at it in preview mode. Hello, I copied a tab interface from a DB and pasted it into my layout. Each tab has a label, and both the label and tab are set to "Go to layout(LabelName)". Most of them work properly, but 2 or 3 of the buttons do not perform. They just blink as if they're "Do Nothing" scripts - but when I DC on a faulty one, it shows the proper link to "Go to" the correct layout. I tried selecting them as a group, arranging them to Front and then back, but I can't figure out what the problem is. Finally, I copied the tabs/labels and pasted them into a new DB - and they work fine - which leads me to believe it may be a layering issue - or maybe an "order of creation" issue. …

Hi Folks, I'm tooling around with a eval copy of FM7 and am using the Photo Album template. However, I cannot seem to size my window any wider than the default 600 pixels (+-). I am able to make the window taller by dragging the dotted line at the bottom using the Move tool but cannot make it any wider. Any suggestions? With FMP 7.0 in hand, I'm updating my department (Media Services) database from 4.0. We keep multiple files open for diffent scheduling and equipment allocation forms. There are usually three or four open at one time and we need to go back and forth between the files. (I hope this makes sense) I was wondering if I could make a navigation bar that would stay on the screen and always be available to take the user to any of the files that are open. Instead of just listing the current page number in the header of a report, I need to list page 1 out of X where X is the total number of pages in the report. I could not find a function to calculate total pages in report. Is there such a function. Or does someone have a good formula or work-around for this. Can I format a field to 'include vertical scrollbar' and also have the data non-editable? I have some forms that are psuedo-"read only", and a few of the fields require a scrollbar. But when I disallow any entry into the fields, the scrollbar no longer works.

Hi Perhaps this is a simple problem but I can not find a solution for it I am working on an inventory system. So far I made everything except for the final report. I have several products and I use one new record for every transaction (purchases, sales, transfers from one warehouse to another, etc.). Every record has the item number, item description, quantity for the transaction and price. I am just now starting to play around with this but I thought if I asked the question now that someone might be able to save me some time. Here is the setup: Lets say I have a FM database for my music collection. In each record there is a place where you have Album Art displayed (in a container field). For one I would like to be able to display the Album Art, title and artist. I have a layout with many fields that are non-editable. All the fields are formatted exactly the same, to make sure I used format painter. It's driving me nuts because when I go to different records, I get drop-shadowed looking borders around the fields where other records there is nothing! I'm updating a file for a client who _refuses_ to have a relational database (every bit of information must be in one or it's too complicated for her to figure out...believe me, I've wasted a lot of time and effort trying). The file is essentially a Roladex of travel agencies, where individual agents within each agency are listed across 4 repeating fields (first name, last name, job title, email address). I am attempting to create a new layout for my database, one in which I pull many of the fields into a printable contract (or any type of document, actually) without any graphics or text boxes, etc, just a document I can print and fax to clients. But trying to use the Insert Merge Field method is definitely not working due to the number of fields (slow going), and the fact that I'm then having to go back in and type the field names in front of the inserted merge field, and the texts are overlapping, difficult to organize, and too numerous to organize, too. I have created a layout which contains summary and subsummary parts. The preview mode works fine for most of the time. I am not sure when it occurs, but at some point when I click on preview the summary fields do not show up anymore, just the header and the body. Hi I made a beautiful looking interface in Photoshop. Converted it to a jpg and then pasted it into the backgound of a blank layout and it made the program really slow. I have found that little graphic objects have white flickers as well. Is there any way around the background problem. It is such a beautiful file but very slow. How do you format a calculation resulting number when it is used in a mail merge field. $125.50 shows as $125.5 when the field is placed in a letter using mail merge. I cannot get the field to show the second 0 as $125.50. I can format the number field to show the 2 decimal places when it is used on layouts as the number field it is, but in the mail merge layout the <<mail merge>> field when selected only gives options for text formatting- the number option is grayed out. Example: I have 2 FM files. In the first file I have Layout with 3 fields (US Dollar rate, AU Dollar rate, NZ Dollar rate). Record keeps currency rates for every day. In the second file I have Layout with fields Item, Cost, Date, Currency, Converted Cost. Currency is a text field (pop up list: US Dollar, AU Dollar, NZ Dollar). What I need: If I create new record in the second file, enter Item name, Date, Cost and choose currency, program will look up for the Currency rate (specified in Date) in the first file, calculate cost and put it in Converted Cost. We recently moved from Macs to XP and have started to experience a strange happening when printing layouts with text fields, i.e., just about all of them! I've simplified the problem with a text field with a border on a layout. I've typed some text into the field so that on the screen and in Preview the text occupies the space I've allocated to the field. But when it's printed there is a gap between the end of the text and the bottom of the text field. Can anyone explain why, or better still, what to do to get rid of the gap? Hi everybody ! I try to create a report showing subsummary results in a 2-entries table. Let's say I'm selling products that have references as key identifier. I would like too have informations about the revenue I got with one product in one month. So this revenue is a subsummary per month AND product reference. Does anyone have any experience with using barcodes with Dymo labelwriters? My issue is when using barcode fonts printed straight on wide labels they can be read without issue. As soon as I rotate the barcode and print it doesn't read correctly. Font is IDautomation Plug-in is also IDautomation Font printed portrait or landscape (with filemaker) on a laserprinter works fine. Since I can't find a way to "enter layout mode" from a script, what would be a good way to center data based on the following: I have a letter layout which has a date field, a composite name and address calcluation field, and a dearline field along with a field called gLetterText. The gLetterText field allows the user to enter text for the letter to be sent, the other fields I have as <<date>>, <<cCompAddress>>, <<DearLine>>. I have grouped this with the cLetterText field so that they move as a unit. Hi there, i have try out a report printing for account GL listing, it will break by each account that i set it on subsummary part sort with account code field. Now the problem is if the account have many transaction and will need more than 2 or 3 pages. The account code only will display once on the first time and will not display on the next page(s), so i will not know the second or third page is belong to which account. I know this is easy! I have a file of employee weekly attendance/time records, sorted by Week within Employee name. There can be multiple records for the same employee in a week (Annual Leave, Sick Leave, actual work, etc.) I have a report summarised by Week and then Employee. Now to the easy bit. For Annual Leave, an employee accrues a certain amount each week, might or might not take some of it, leaving a balance. Each Week subsummary shows Total Accrued, Total Taken, Balance. Problem is these figures apply only for the week. I want the same figures for year to date. Running Total doesn't work nor do the other weird and shonky thngs I've tried. In a nuts…

I have a number of layouts that represent letters we send to customers. These include thank you letters, cover letters, etc. These letters are preformatted and include merge fields for the customer contact information. The default behavior is to have a button that opens the letter layout in preview mode, then takes the user to the print dialog to print it. They have no control over the contents of the letter. However, sometimes the body of the letters need to be modified before sending. This might include a sales person adding a personal touch to the letter, etc. The problem is that normal users permissions don't allow them to edit layouts. So, this prevents them fro…

I have a database that holds our LEAN manufacturing data. It is often necessary to view the data in list format - with the operator having the option to look at an expanded version of any record by going to a common "data" layout. What I am wondering is, how do I make a button that will return the user to the previous layout, regardless of what layout that might have been? I'm finding my way around the Filemaker Solution Framework, which seems like it should do everything I want, but I have a few questions. The situation is this: I'm doing some print layouts for a customer, and he wants certain information to appear (small print, signature, etc) at the bottom of the last page. Someone showed me a trick involving a dummy subsummary part, with the fields to be printed at the bottom actually being part of the header, then extending through the dummy subsummary (fields aligned:bottom) to print at the bottom. This is obviously Filemaker 101 stuff but how do I make the headers for a column layout what I want them to be? Right now, they come out as the field name for that column and that is of course unacceptable. Have to make them something nobody will understand.

Hi, It"s my first time on your forum. I'm doing a database for all the bottles of wine I have in my cellar. My question is how to be able to link two fields together. I have one field with all the countries in a pull down menu and what I want is if I choose for example France, it automatically gets all the region of this country on another field. FM Pros: I am an FM newby and I have a problem related to reporting on a group that represent a fraction of all records, while still included summary info from the total of all records. My report shows a fraction of all inventory records, but on each sub-summary line needs to include information summarized from the total. Specifically, I am showing transactions within a date range, and totaling weight shipped for those transaction within that date range, thus the sub-summary provides the net weight shipped in/out during the specified period. From the menu, I click Layout/Set Layout Order, I can see many layouts like A,B,C,D etc. On my screen, I see only layout A. How do I switch to the other layouts to look at what fields is used on the layouts?

Looking for the reason why that on some PC's the layout pop-up menu (the one directly above the flip book) opens in a columnar fashion and others open with a scroll interface. Is there a registry setting that might be ammended?

I'm trying to dynamically populate a dropdown list of current salespeople from a "Display Name" field in another file (the dropdown resides in a portal). The hitch is that there could be many people with the same display name - some current salespeople, some former (identified by whether they have an Employment End Date). In other words, in the dropdown, I'm trying to display all of the salesperson's Display Names, but only if they have a null Employment End Date. Any thoughts on how to get it to update dynamically? I can't for the life of me figure out how to get a count of the number of groups in a subsummary, which is a count of the field that is used as the break field. To make my meaning clear, the example FM uses in the help files is a subsummary report of sales figures summarised by geographical regions A, B, C and D. In this example, as well as the summaries I would need a count of the number of regions the report found (ie 4 in this example). All the databases that I have developed in the past. I've always made it look like you were looking at one layout. The window from the user standpoint looks like another tab was chosen but it appears that you still looking at the same page. Programmatically they are looking at another layout. Well I've come up with this idea to create a pop-up with a related database. Programatically bring the related database window forward and then allow the user to enter information an then hide the window when they are through with the information on the related database. I have a "summary page" that is running in browse mode. It is needed to do this because I have buttons assigned to it that when someone clicks on it, it goes to the selected record. I was wondering if there is any way to put a summary count of text in the body of the Browse Mode document? In other words, a Field named <<Position>> has in it, text like: V.P. of Sales, or Drill press operator, etc. And it needs to be summarized and counted. For instance, there might be 4 V.P.s of sales.
