Hi All, I use Filemaker v6 Pro to do some development and now need to create an executable to give to my clients. Now, I understand that I need Developer to be able to do this. My question is should I just get v6 Developer or should I buy v7 Developer? What are the issues with getting v7? Is it compatible with v6? Have the filetypes changed from v6 to v7 such that v6 is unable to open v7 files? Your help is appreciated.

Hi, If i wanted to update the database at a certain time everyday, what is the best way to carry this out in a Mac OS. I'm awared that when using Windows, you can set the scheduler to run a batch file at a certain time everyday. How about in Mac OS?

Hi all, I'm trying to use excel vba to access Filemaker and trigger a script through FileMaker Pro Type Library . I have added the reference to filemaker pro type library in excel. My question is if I distribute the stand-alone run-time apps, how do I make excel accesses the filemaker pro through the type library (active x automation)? I created a DB solution in FM Developer 6, using OS 10.3.3. It was bound using the Classic version of FM Developer Tool, so it could also be used on Mac OS 8 and 9. It was tested successfully on half a dozen systems including OS 9 and OS X. However, on one system (OS 10.3.3) it would not open, the error message being "Could not find QuickTimeLib". Since QuickTimeLib is not on some of the other computers that did work, what is going on?

I'm considering advising my boss to buy several FM7 Pro licenses. But I hate the fact that I cannot use variables and functions in a normal way. So is the solution buying one FM Developer 7? And will functions made in Developer 7 run on FM7 Pro?

I have installed a 5.0 runtime solution on a client's Windows XP computer and upon trying to run it receive the following error message: "FileMaker Pro could not be run...[CLIP]...incorrect installation, missing components, or insufficient memory." FM's KB describes the problem and a possible resolution for Win NT4. An old post here suggests the problem could be resolved by uninstalling Internet Explorer, then installing the runtime, and then re-installing IE, but i'd rather not go through that on the phone with this particular client. I suspect this may be an issue where the user doesn't have administrative rights, but it's very difficult to …

Is it possible to import field definitions from a FM6 table to Fm7 table?

I making a solution. There is a number field. When I go to BROWSE mode it changes to record (the way suppose to be). Like to know how I can add numbers in that record field, rather then making whole bunch records fields. I am trying to create a database with with multiple tables, however I want all of the tables and fields to be linked to a single record. That is, Iam creating a database that will contain patient data. I create flyers (using MS Works) w/large 6mb jpegs in them. I want to make them available in a read-only runtime file. What 'save as' file type would you save the flyer in from MS Works, to insert into a FMP Developer 7 field. Also what field type would you use? Container? I'm just an 'old, slow' Rookie. I have created a runtime solution in Dev 7 on a Windows 2000 machine, and I have attempted to run this app on a machine with Windows 98 second edition. The error I get is: Error Starting Program The SUPPORT.DLL file is linkded to missing export NETAPI32.DLL:NetApiBufferFree Could this be an incompatability issue with Dev 7 solutions with Win98 or is there a workaround for this type of issue. Using Dev 5.5 on XP platform to develop a runtime. The odd problem has to do with importing data to upgrade a solution. The problem only happens with 1 file out of a total of 20. The old files are stored in an Old folder. I do an import from the old file into the new using a script with four lines: All User Abort(OFF) PerformScript(External: Show all records in old file) Import(Restore Order, No Dialog, Old File) SetField(Found Count, Status(CurrentFoundCount) If I run the script manually, the import works fine. I've had amazing success using Applescript to send, receive and pass information to and from FileMaker in version 6 (and 7). I have a solution that I wish to create runtimes using Dev 6 (and eventually 7) that use Applescript in the same way. Basically I wish to create a protable version of my solution. I am having strange and unstable results using the same exact things when my solutioin is coverted to a runtime. Sometimes the Applescript app (script saved as and app and or from scriptmaker) succeeds in passing info to FM runtime but most others my runtime crashes and the applescript displays and error of connection lost. I'm about to distribute a bound solution which will run in kiosk mode. The actual solution consists of 5 separate FM files. I plan on offering frequent updates to one or two of the files. I 've purchased an installer program which will actually find and then overwrite (after archiving) the target files. My question is this: Do I only need to replace the file with the Developer file extension name (.USR) or are there other associated files (.DLL) I'll have to replace as well?

I recently upgraded from FileMaker Pro 7 to FileMaker Pro Developer 7. Text is aligned to the right in most fields. Suddenly, I noticed some fields have text aligned to the left. I tried realigning them to the right without success. The text tool bar shows the right alignment button selected. One of the troublesome fields will only show data if I click on it. When I click on one of the problem fields in browse mode, the text tool bar is disabled. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi I am currently creating a runtime which I will soon transfer over to my PC (XP) to bind. I know that there are issues with fonts and font size, but are there any other issues I need to know about? Hi, I have two fp5 files and i want to import them as two tables into one fp7 file. Does anyone know how to do that? I tried by convert one fp5 file to a new fp7 file and in the new fp7 i created a another table manually and imported the other fp6 file into this new table. I have a runtime application developed in FMP/DEV 6. I have a potential client running Win2k who is having a problem with my program crashing. It appears to be a memory conflict, but we can't determine the cause. It does not always crash in the same database or function, but she gets the same error message each time: The Instruction at "0x77805a10" referenced memory at "0x0021e000". The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate program. Anybody ever see this problem or know how to resolve it...?? Recently I installed Visual Studio.NET. I have now found that the runtime files with the FileMaker standard USR extension have a conflict with SQL User Script files. (At least that is what their icons now show.) If I try to bind solutions with the USR ext. then I get an error stating that the extesion is used by Windows and won't let me do it. 1. Anyone else find this problem? This is going to cause some issues in upgrades for some clients. 2. Where does one go to find safe extensions? Thanks

There may be a glitch in FMP Developer 5 in Kiosk mode on the Macintosh. If you open a sample file in kiosk mode which does not have a QUIT button and you must use "Force Quit" (option-command-escape) to exit the program, upon trying to open any FMP 5 file afterwards, the folowing message appears, "Maximum users reached...." You will not be able to open any FMP 5 files until you reboot the computer. I did this on a single user Power Mac OS 8.6. Note, kiosk files with a QUIT button do not cause this problem. If anyone has a similar experience or knows what is happening, I'd like to know. Happy FileMaking....

Hello, I've written a fm6 database for converting some flightsimulator files. I would really like to publish it to share its benefits with other people. BUT: I don't have the developer edition. I don't know if it took much time to make a runtime out of it, but I would be so happy if I could send that little file to you and you convert it for me!

I used the FileMaker Dev 7 Rename file function to rename a file in a single file solution expecting it would work like FMDev6 and update all references inside the file to refer to the new filename. At very least it did not update any of my Import script steps. They all still refer to the original filename. Are there any other places in the file I should look for this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else had this problem?

Is there any way to use a "Library" of Custom Functions and to copy them between solutions? Right now, you will have to copy the main formula, recreate all the parameters & CustomFunc Name in the new DB, then paste the function's calc. Unfortunately, you will have to have full access rights and thus reveal the calculation's content. In the old days, there was a Program called Font/DA mover. I would have expected similar functionality for Custom Functions in FMDev7. (so you can sell your complex calcs separately to developers ... FMI, are you listening?)

They need to register people 6 months in advance for 30 different programs simultaneously, so they need 30 different sets of forms, each with about 20 automated scripts linked to various buttons on the forms. Developing a master template has not been a problem. But cloning the template is another matter. I would like to use the feature in FMP7 thats called Insert File, but i dont want to save as a reference, i would like to save it inside of the database. i am producing two different but related databases, which for our catalogue, on a mac. we need to combine and export these two files into a .exe file that can be read by windows users but i can find nothing in either Developer or Pro handbook which explains how to do this. any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I need to "Save a copy" of the database on CD/DVD at the end of each operators entry period in case of the proverbial screw up. At present it will save, but it always saves to the same file overwriting the last saved file. I cannot seem to construct a script that will give the file a unique extension like a date & time stamp for each save. I know this is easily remedied on the File menu by saving as "!" The operators will not have access to the file menu. I have it set that all they do is click a CD/DVD icon on the splash screen and it saves a copy to CD/DVD automatically. Hi there, just want to ask is that any way to create a custom tool bar and make it stay on top of the screen. when the screen scroll down, it still will maintain on the top, just like normal toolbar. In normal design layout, if i create a custom toolbar with shortcut button, when the screen height more than one page, it will need to scrool down and the tool bar will not able to view anymore. Say I install FileMaker Server on a machine, then deploy the client application to multiple workstations that was created using Dev7. Does that satisfy licensing requirements, or is volume licensing required for all the clients? If you join the FSA as an Associate, you get a copy of Developer "for your personal use and evaluation". I am currently running Filemaker 7 on a MacIntosh G4 OSX Panther. I would like to switch to Developer 7 for the remainder of my programming. I am planning on using my current FM7 license for a second computer that is networked to the computer that I run Developer 7 on. Do I need to first purge all vestiges of Filemaker 7 before loading Developer 7? (and if so, do I just drag the Filemaker 7 application folder to the trash? My concern is that if I load my first FM6 license onto the second machine it will show up when networked as too many users for the same license. I am trying to make a field that will display images from a folder. I would like it to lookup the image file name based on the value of a different field. For example, if the database were of different types of fruit, one of the fields might be "FRUIT_TYPE," and its value might be "CHERRY." Hi there, just wanna to check is that any way to make the recovery process automate. Just click a button and the system will automatic recover the damage database. For some cases, the recovery process will rename the recovered database to other name(customer.fp5 to customer recovered.fp5). I realise that FP7 will only run under Windows XP etc but does that mean that any runtimes produced are limited to these operating systems? My runtime program has a setup screen for the user to enter their logo, name and address, etc. These fields are then used as the header in all the reports. The users would like to be able to change the font in the setup and then use that font in the report headers. Is there a way that the reporyt headers can automatically use the same font that the user entered in the setup? This is a runtime appl in FMP6. The user cannot change the report layouts. I would like to display information about a button when the mouse pointer is over the button. For example, say I had a button that was shaped like a right arrow. I would like it if when the pointer was placed over the right arrow, a small text box would appear and read "next record." This is similar to the feature of some applications called "help bubbles." I started out with 2 licenses for Filemaker 6. I have upgraded one of them to Filemaker 7. I am anticipating upgrading the other one as soon as I have some proficiency in FM 7. I have just released my first runtime file today and it consists of two files and a folder with files inside (as the manual says it should). My question is this though: I have downloaded runtime files for mac and it is only ONE file (not two seperate files and a folder). How do I go about getting that extra file and "Extensions" folder INSIDE that main application file? Kinda sucks... I've downloaded zipped runtime solutions for Windows that show the .dll files in the unzipping process, but in the final solution folder only the relevant files are visible...I like this and would like to be able to offer my solutions for windows in that way, but mine include all the MANY .dll files. I have a runtime bound with FM 5.5 Dev Tool on a Win2000 machine. This works just fine on other W2K machines, plus some earlier Wins I've run across. However, when installed on XP, it will run great after installation. Then, if you reboot the XP machine, it immediately ceases to respond (NOT RESPONDING). After approximately 5 minutes the runtime solution begins responding again and loads the databases. Every subsequent execution of the runtime is problem free, until you reboot the machine. Once the runtime solution is running it runs free of problems. If you wait the 5 minutes and let the runtime solution completely open. Windows XP Pro…

I had created a solution and it uses the new window feature and the idea is that the user can dismiss the window if they choose. But as a runtime ALL window close boxes are disabled. I just got an eMAC desktop running OS-X. My application was developed in FMP 6 on a PC. I ported it to the MAC. The good news is: everything seems to be working; it even automatically changed my Send Message commands to Send AppleEvent. However, everything is very "grainy" in appearance. This surprised me, as the MAC is supposedly better in graphics and display. But, my background and all my characters are grainy and "diffused", whereas on the PC they are crisp and sharp. I tried to use a standard font so the application could be ported. I am using mostly Arial. Not only are the characters not sharp, but all my background colors (and colors in general) are n…

Maybe this isn't the place, but I am ticked, so here goes. I bought FMD 6 in January and got no rebate, no upgrade consideration from Dev5.5. I even sent a request to FM customer service asking about it and about when we might see Dev 7 (not that I really expected them to say anything) simply was told "Too Bad". Now Dev 7 debuts and users back to v4 get the rebate! buyers after Feb8 get a great deal, but I am stuck with a measly $100 upgrade rebate having purchased in mid January. Sucks. Really Sucks. I just noticed a "File Maintenance" command in FMDev 7 (File menu). It appears to do the equivalent of compressed copy without having to muck around with renaming files etc. I just tried it and in about 2 seconds it reduced a 5.7 MB file to 4.6 MB. Hi all - I am an admitted amateur at this. I have been writing an FMP database in my "spare" time. I am now looking to make it a runtime application for both OSX and Windows. Currently I am using FM Developer 5.5 (developing in "spare" time = LONG time!!) on a Mac using OS 10.3. We are planning on buying filemaker 7 developer version. But before we do that, is it possible to write a standalone application in developer version, like one could write with VB for example? Hi All, We have this Application called Adblocks which is written on filemaker pro. This application is serviced through a Citrix server for mutiple users. The problem is, lately Almost once a week we get this error. Could not pause file Calls.fp5 because of an outstanding database lock from guest Unknown. Sometimes one of the user's name will be in place of Unknown. When this happens it freezes up the database and no one can use the application until we reboot the server. At times in the process files are damage that has to get recoverd. Does anyone have any idea what this is?. The Apps Vendor Can't figure out why this is happening and so do we. Any suggestions wou…

I have just bought FM Developer 6 for use on Win XP Pro so that I can distribute an engineering database to a number of clients as a standalone runtime application. The Developer Tool created all the files as it should but I found that the runtime application did absolutely nothing. Calls to FM support were fruitless but somehow I eventually found that if I moved the directory containing the solution a couple of levels up the directory tree the application works! This suggests that there is a maximum path length (on my estimation 115 characters or so) but I can't find this mentioned in the documentation. Does anybody know whether this is a windows or FM 'f…

Subject says it all. I have a database that I have been developing for some time. I created a RunTime using Dev6.0 using Win98. The database works fine on 98, and 2000. But my users that are using XP are getting crashes all the time. The crashes end up damaging one or more of the tables. Anyone else see this type of thing happening before? I am new to Filemaker. Previously I worked on MS Access. I want to work on the design view of Filemaker rather than the runtime view. In MS Access, when the database is secured, we can disable the autoexec by pressing shift key and look at the database objects such as tables, forms, queries, reports etc. Presently, I have a Filemaker application that starts from startup.fp5 and opening this file will display a series of buttons. Does anyone know if I can prevent anyone from deleting the about script? I want people to be able to change the solution to meet their needs but I don't want anyone taking credit for something I created. So is it possible to make an about script that cannot be modified? I know you can have a custom about menu in filemaker developer but if you can still delete that script. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone, I've created a runtime solution with FM Developer. Everything is fine except for one field, and this problem is consistent between platforms. The field is a calculated text field, which uses the ValueListItems function on a value list that is populated by a relationship. In FMP, the text field is properly displayed on the layout (as a merge field), but does not appear on the layout in the runtime solution. Any ideas would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks!

I am writing a standalone application in kiosk mode. Once bound, I need to prevent the user (or anyone else) accessing the data using normal filemaker - or any other program. I know I developer will prevent file and layout amendements but i also need them not to be able to view the data. Am I missing something? Can anybody point me in the right direction? Many thanks

We are trying to load Developer 6 on several iMacs in our office (box set) running OS 8.6. In every case, the application will not start for a variety of reasons: Quicktimelib is missing, or UnicodeUtilitieslib is missing...that sort of thing. The system requirements should allow for Developer to be run on 8.6, but it always seems to find a reason not to.

I have a solution built in 5.5 to import excel documents. As I found out the runtime cannot import excel docs. Does FM6 have this capability for the runtime to import excel docs? I've looked on the FM website but was unable to find reference to it.

I know that runtime cannot be implemented in a network, without running FMP server. But, has anyone tried running FM runtime in a "shared folder" over a network. Will this work? I expect it will only allow single-user access, but can it be accessed from remote computers through the shared folder? This would solve a major problem I am having. Thanks.

I have a runtime application that creates a sales list, with pictures. The formatted output prints great in PDF. Is there an easy way to save the same format (layout) as an html file? I tried doing an export to html, but I can't export the pictures (in container fields) and it doesn't format the file like the report does. Thanks.

I've posted this question earlyer in another area, but without helpfull response. A simple button with the Search & Replace command does not work anylonger and the S&R window does not appear when the DB is compiled with Developer. It's strange, it does not mather if I call the script step S&R directly or include it into a script. In both cases the error <the previous script step "< unknown>" could not be completed ... comes up. The OS is XP, FM v6, Developer v5.5 and full acces to the user is enabled and when starting the S&R script, the current script is exited. Any idea on how to solve this is highly appreciated. I developed my program with the cursor hand showing when the cursor is placed over a button. I ran a runtime file, then used Setup Factory to make an installer. When I install the database the hand cursor is not working. Is it the Developer tool or Setup Factory? I am new and still learning how to work these programs properly.
