Every time we reboot one computer, an iMac M1 running Sequoia, we have to go into System Settings, Privacy & Security, Local Network, and toggle off and back on access to the Local Network. If we don't, FileMaker client cannot see our FileMaker Server. All the other computers are fine, even those running Sequoia. I'm trying to write an AppleScript to so it for us, but it's annoying. Is there any way to get the setting to stick?

Good morning. I have a series of QR codes on client devices, that when scanned will trigger a webhook that in turn runs a script on FMS. All works well, however it does just one task. I now would like - if possible - to have a menu appear on the mobile device that scans this QR code. From this menu, the user can select one of several options, and different webhooks could be triggered from that menu option. This would give me a lot more options. I might be on the wrong track, but would this QR code open a web page that displays a JavaScript menu that depending on the option chosen, launches one of a few different webhooks? Any thoughts are appreciated. …

I've had a problem with formatting being entered into fields when I paste content. So if I have a field whose formatting is defined on the layout as Verdana 12 but I paste something that had other formatting like Times 24, the other formatting (Times 24) remains in the field. After some searching, I found that if I set a field to a calculated value of TextFormatRemove ( Self ) and uncheck the "Do not replace existing content of field (if any)" box, the formatting is removed when I exit the field and the formatting I defined for the field applies. Is there any way to set this globally for the FM database or for the layout so I don't have to do this for …

I have an active database file on my desktop to which I add records every week. I maintain an identical database on an external hard drive which I maintain as a cumulative backup of all records. I want to periodically move recently added records from my active database to the archived database, which I keep offsite for protection (except when I am transferring records). Is there a way to do this FileMaker-to-Filemaker records transfer?

I have a Packing List function in my database where I generate packing lists for orders. I'd like to add functionality where I can either select an item from a dropdown menu then click a button and the item is appended to the notes field or where I can have buttons that I can click where text is input. Hi, I currently have two FM files which started off as identical copies. One is live and in production, the other copy was given to an outside developer to make some improvements. Over the course of 6 months, I had to make some changes to the production copy, and failed to take good notes. What tools do you recommend to compare the two files for differences? Im really just looking to move the new fields and scripts I made in the production copy over to the new version (developer improved). Any suggestions are appreciated!

We've built an order management platform that uses Google Firebase as the database backend. I'm exploring using Filemaker (16) to build a front end to make data manipulation, order analysis, and report generation easier, but I'm not seeing how to connect a Filemaker database to Google Firebase. There are some plug-ins such as GManipulator which integrate with Google apps like calendar and contacts, but it's not clear whether that can connect to a Firebase database and I'd like to avoid spending $150.00 per year (more if I have more users) to use it. I have looked high and low to see if the new FileMaker Pro 2024 has these features: The ability to organize Value Lists in folders. The ability to organize Custom Functions in folders. We have folder organization for Layouts and Scripts, why not Value Lists and Custom Functions? I understand layout calculations are a feature that does not exist in 19: this appears to have its advantages and disadvantages. Are there any features that I am really missing out on? Bear in mind, I am using this database for just myself - not "deployed nor on a server".

My Mac crashed and I only have my original v12 DVD installer as I downloaded v15 via Internet. Claris only has the upgrades, not the base installer. I have the v15 licence codes - just need the installer dmg file (or installer disks). I have a Time Machine backup for another Mac with FM v15 on it but not sure I can "re-load" the files to another Mac that way. Any help would be appreciated.

I have been supporting a company running Filemaker Server and about 15 clients for quite a few years through various version upgrades. I have never previously had a problem with the clients seeing the host files. I upgraded the Mac OS and Filemaker versions about 6 weeks ago and initially every client computer was able to connect with no issues, but now there are three clients that can't connect. I have eliminated any possible problems before the Client machines and checked that the correct ports are open from those machines, I have run diagnostic tests on the OS, updated it to 15.5 and reinstalled FMP but the problem persists. I have a database of airports and have a layout where I show airport info. Here is a screenshot of the Canadian airport data: The 4th column shows enplanements, or the number of passengers boarding flights (the field name is "enp2023"). I use this formula to display the numbers as X.XM (millions to one decimal place). This is the formula for the field: Round(enp2023/1.0e+6;1)&"M" However when it is an even million the number is truncated and doesn't show 4.0M (as for Edmonton) but simply 4M. I'd like it to display as shown in the rightmost column (these have been entered manually), as 4.0M. How do I do that? Thanks in advance.

Whenever I paste data into my Filemaker database using command-v (we use Macs), it shows up with the original formatting and not the formatting of the field. I'm attaching an example using my name. If I do command-z it wipes out the formatting and shows the formatting on the layout as in the second image. Is there a way to force the data to just use the field formatting and ignore whatever the original formatting was without having to do command-option-shift v (Paste Text Only) or command-z? I'm pretty careful about this but I'm afraid that as more people use the solution the formatting will be all over the place. Thanks in advance.

First a bit of back story. We photograph high school graduations, and when we are doing the family and individual component of this we first take a photo of an ID Tag that has a QR code and the students details. In order to make these ID Tags, we create a Database with all the students in it for a particular school, and then select the layout that is formatted in the way we need, and we print 4 tags per sheet of paper, in numerical order, so page 1 has tags 1,2,3,4 page 2 has 5,6,7,8, etc. So, if for easy math, if we have 400 students, this would create 100 pages with 4 tags each. I used FM since it wasn't an Apple-Claris app and I was always able to import in different records the various files ending with "TXT" e placing them in different field based on the tabs each file contained. The Carriage Return opened a new record and repeat the import based on the tabs. This until FMP found fies in the selected folder- Now I receve the options of 3 fields only: Content Name Path The content contains everything still I can read the various needed tabs but even if the first line has the correct names everything is just one enormous text file. I've spent all morning trying to figure out this issue and I'm stumped. I open a file, click Manage / Database, and a small window pops up that says "The file (filename) could not be opened. (Not Found). OK". I click OK, a window opens asking me to locate the file or click Cancel to cancel any further requests for this file. The odd part is that the file that's not found is the same file I just opened. If I click cancel OR select the file that's opened, all is well. I can try clicking Manage / Database and the proper window opens up. If I select any other option under Manage such as Security, there is no problem. If I change the name of the f…

Hey all. It's been a while since I've had my hands in FMP, and I'm slowly working my way back into it. Thus, I need some help figuring out how to obtain my desired result. What I want is to create reports containing portals that shows all records whose field "PO#" are the same. Is this possible? For example; I have 30 records - 15 whose "PO#" is 11111, 9 whose "PO#" is 22222, and 6 whose "PO#" is 33333. Hey Everyone, I'm new to the FM Forum. I recently got a new computer and a friend of mine gave me FileMaker Pro 12 (It was a trial Version). He converted a few of my old FileMaker Pro Files from FM 4 up to Version 12. He sent them to me and I was able to use / open the files until the trial version ran out. If I buy the FileMaker Pro 12 Advanced License Key Card for Mac & Windows, FULL VERSION will it allow me to continue using Filemaker Pro 12 on my computer or no?. Please help! Thanks, R

hello all, I searched for this topic but could not find anything. I am running FM 21.1.1.41 on FM Cloud. I have a line item portal for entering part numbers for bidding purposes. I set the portal to alternate row state. The issue I have is that some of my fields have a fill color which negates the whole point of alternate row state. I have a Primary key field sitting behind a part number field. The part number is displayed and cannot be edited in browse mode. The key field behind it, has a drop down list of the primary key field. The list shows only the second field (part number). So I cannot make that field transparent because both fields will show over each o…

Hello In the last hour I have found out that changes that I have made to a number of FM files are not being saved. If I make a change in a file, quit, then re-open the file, the screen is the same as it was when I opened that file. This has come all of a sudden! What is the cause of this please? Should I re-install FMP19? I attach a file that is not updating. The Reset | Show All button shows all records and sorts them in order. AUSGEO2024.fmp12

I have a database of US airports, identified by their three-letter IATA codes (e.g. JFK, ATL, ORD, LAX, etc.). The database includes enplanement information provided by the FAA. I set this up in 2021 so I included the latest year available of this data, 2019. The FAA has just published 2023 data and I want to import that, but my import doesn't work. I have users on FM18 advanced. Have not upgraded since they use runtimes and 18 is the last version for which runtimes are available. I use the SMTP server for sending email and the process, which has worked for years, suddenly stopped working for their outlook accounts. It used to be that the TLS, Plain Password options worked. But it appears Outlook is deprecating (or has deprecated) the Plain Password option. FM18 offers one other authentication method - Cram-MD5. it also doesn't work. Outlook claims to have transitioned to something called OAUTH2. That option is not available in FM18. Is this application dead in the water for Outlook users? Or is t…

Please help me i am a beginner I have a voucher selection in layout A, and what I want to happen is that when I select a voucher (ESC Voucher, Public Voucher, or Private Voucher) in that layout, the name of the selected voucher will automatically appear in layout B. I print tear-off receipts on 8-1/2" x 11" Click-N-Ship labels. We cut the labels in half horizontally so we get a label that is 4-1/4" x 11" and is stuck on an envelope with a tear-off receipt that the customer tears off (see image). The customer then scans the QR code on the receipt and pays. I have the layout set up in Filemaker so the labels print two up. The problem is that when I cut them they are no longer in numeric sequence. I'd like to set up a sort order so that if I cut the labels in half I can simply stack them and they will be in the correct numeric sequence. Hello. I'm accustomed to working with MS Access, but have begun looking into FileMaker. I've watched a few tutorial videos first, then began making a simple music collection database. I noticed that when FM creates a table, it automatically adds five fields. One of them is Primary Key. It's designated as a Text field. I've always been under the impression a Primary and Foreign Key field have to be numbers (preferably auto-generated), and that you should use numbers because a text string can be mistyped. May I please ask why FM makes the Primary Key a text field and not an actual number? Thank you.

Hi, Does anyone know please if FileMaker has the functionality/capability to add Record Tags to Drawings, so when clicked, it takes you to that record. We have recently undertake a door survey of 1000's of internal doors, each door having a 'Door Ref No'. The data recorded in FileMaker. We would like to add that 'Door Ref No' to a drawing for our client as a Tag, so rather than open the survey data, then look where that Door Ref No is on a drawing. When I import photos into a Container using a script, there is no option to import a reference to the file only as there is in a separate dialog when I do this manually. How do I import a folder to a container field, using the reference only, within a script? Doh! Never mind. Just found it in the option when I specify "Folder". I'd swear that dialog didn't appear yesterday (or was that my mind that didn't appear yesterday?)

Hello All, I am running Filemaker 23 on the FM Cloud. I have a "storage" Database where I keep a number of files for our projects. We tried using external storage and I do that for some files but we have a lot of remote workers and a terrible VPN so using a file server is not possible is some situations. So we create and save docs to the database and use a portal to view them for each project. We open the files to look at them and attach them to emails, which works like a charm. I installed FMS 19.6 on Ubuntu 20.04 server. ODBC is configured, and I can add a table from the ODBC data source to the relationship graph, so I think its working. There is no FM pro client for Linux, so I have to open the solution from my computer remotely, and so I have replicated the ODBC DSN on my computer. When I manually import from the ODBC data source, the left side of the "specify order" dialog shows the fields, and I can connect them to the right side. But when I try to script this step, it does not show the fields on the left, but instead says ""Specified when script runs". Why is that, and what should I do to proceed? (see pic below). Thanks.

I'm having a problem with ODBC on a server running Ubuntu 22 and FMS 21. ODBC is configured correctly on the server, and the data in a mySQL database can be accessed via ODBC (tested with the command iSQL). I have a script which was created on a Mac server, which imports data from the MySQL database via ODBC. Testing this on Mac is pretty straight forward, because I can log into the Mac server itself and run Filemaker as a client there, and do the import, knowing that the ODBC connection is the same one that will be used server-side. I'm struggling with a master-detail layout, particularly with the Sort and Filter features. While in Layout mode, when I double-click on the left-side portal (which only displays first and last names), I can't access the "Sort and Filter" options under Portal Setup because I'm showing records from the Current table. My goal is to have new records appear at the top of the portal row when created, rather than at the bottom. How can I achieve this? Thanks.

Hello everyone, in my template, there are multiple fields that initially appear grayed out when a new record is created. Upon clicking into any of these fields, I aim for the gray field to transition to white, accompanied by a red outline encircling the field. Additionally, positioned towards the right side of each field, there's a rectangular shape tool included for aesthetic purposes which I would like to change to red as well. To provide a clearer understanding of my vision, I've attached two screenshots for reference. As usual, many thanks.

I've developed a Search field that operates smoothly with single words, retrieving all relevant records associated with that word. For instance, when you search for "guitarist," it scans all fields across records for occurrences of "guitarist." Now, I'm aiming to enhance its functionality. I'd like to incorporate the ability to search for multiple terms, such as "guitarist, vocalist," separated by a comma. This expanded search should cover all fields and records. Hey folks, I have a test file containing 28 "Total" records. I'm exploring FM's Export feature and want to import the data into a duplicate of my test file with all existing records removed. However, upon importing, I found that the total records in the duplicate file amount are 46, not 28. 18 of the 46 records are blank. How do I remove these empty records from the original test file, which I believe are being transferred to the duplicate test file? Thanks.

I have a script that generates a PDF from a set of criteria in a record and attaches it to an email using Apple Mail. On my Machine, a Mac Studio M1 Ultra, running FMP 19, on 12.7.1 and using Apple Mail 16, this works just fine. On another office machine, a iMac M1 also running 12.7.1, and FMP 19 and Apple Mail 16, when I press the button to trigger the script, the layout just sort of blinks and nothing happens. The only obvious difference is that the iMac is sharing the database that the script is part of (Mac Studio is the host) Before I upgraded to the MS, this behaviour still happened on my old machine, a 2018 Mac Mini, the other machine was the same. …

Hey folks, I've set up a basic portal featuring a few fields and a container. One of these fields is labeled "Artist name". While in browse mode, if you input the name of an artist into this field and hit enter on the keyboard, a matching photo pops up automatically. To begin with, I'm assuming that the name entered (e.g. Michael Jackson) in the field must match the name of the image (Michael Jackson.jpg). Any tips on how to achieve this? Thanks so much.

Hi Pretty much all in the subject line. Lately, when ever I click the edit layout button, it opens a new finder window on top of FileMaker. (also happens when exiting layout mode) I don't recall this happening in the past. Is there a way to stop that? I am on a Mac Studio running 12.7.1 and FMP 19.6.3.302 Cheers Craig

Hey all, I am very dumb when it comes to programming/filemaker scripts. We had been using this to take data from a field and generate a QR Code in another field. Google has shut down this API and I hadn’t realized that happened and the person that wrote this I no longer have contact with. Hey folks, I'm still rather new to FMP and this one is a little tough to put together. I created a field within a portal and it does what it's suppose to. All I'm trying to do is add is an ellipsis (...) once the word hits the end of the field and wraps around. Once I click on the field I can actually see all of its info. Click out of the field and it returns back to the ellipsis towards the end of the field. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks so much.

I have a solution in which we can drag audio files on (we use the MBS plugin for drag/drop), and we parse out the data from the name. An example is: Some Job JW "Some Title".wav In the above example, the client = "Some Job", the composer = "JW", and the title = "Some title". Each of those is a field in the database "tracks". From that information we can look up all the other information we need about that particular track. So far so good. We can also have some tracks with multiple composers, separated by dashes in the name, so they could be JW-AB, JW-AB-CD, etc. Again it's no problem to search for that in the composer field. I work for a millwork company. We have numerous wood suppliers. There are many species, qualities, and thicknesses of wood and each vendor has a different price for each item. I have a layout where I enter the parameters of the item we are building along with the species, quality, thickness, etc of the wood we want to use for the item. There is a relationship between the calculation layout and the wood supplier layout. I have a portal that shows the different vendors that have the product I wish to use. I want my layout to populate with the lowest price rather than the first price that matches the criteria. How do I do that?

I have no idea why I'm having such a hard time with this... In FM19 admin console, i'm trying to setup the schedule to do backups to a mapped drive. I mapped a drive letter "W:" to "\\server\fm_bkp\" then created a folder "backups". so in the "backup Schedules" for Backup Folder, I have tried the following: filewin:/W:/fm_bkp/backups/ filewin:/server/fm_bkp/backups/ But I keep getting "the path is not valid". If I use a local folder ("filewin:/e:/TempBkp/ ") it accepts the path. Am i not allowed to use a mapped drive? therefore I have to save locally then copy to the remote server? I'm trying to write a script to export a found set into multiple excel files based on grouping records by a particular filed. So I have a found set, which are all records with todays date Each record has a client assigned in the CLIENT field. I'd like to script a loop to export all records matching the Client name in the first record, then move onto the next Client name found and export those records. Some days there may be 5 different client names and other days there could be 2. Any help with advising what the correct step would be for splitting the found set would be great. thanks

I have a job table with a job line item table that includes the material used for the job. those line items are entered through a portal on the job layout. Similar to a previous post but different. My portal contains records where a musician (MusicianID) may have multiple entries based on participation on a song (SongID). My goal is for the song count (circled) to show how many songs this musician has 'touched' regardless of the role or involvement. In order words, in this example, the song "For Good" appears twice because the musician has two records for this song in the portal - one for Cover Artist and one for Comp/Lyricist. I'm trying to write a script to import records from a secondary FMP database. Each FMP file to import will have it's own unique name, but will have the same prefix eg. ImportFile_230525.fmp12 Is there a way of scripting a wild card filename......like import any file in a specified folder that begins with "ImportFile_23" ? I want to access document records in table Doc from many different tables For that I create a variable $Doc I want to set the $Doc variable as either: Get(ActiveFieldTableName) & "::" & fkDoc ; or Get(ScriptParameter) & "::" & fkDoc FM rejects it saying that it can't find the table. I've tried all sorts of different places to put the " ", without success. Is there any way I can achieve the desired result? Hi, We have integrated FileMaker with PHP via the native web publishing engine and establishing ODBC connection with the FileMaker databases and PHP. Recently, we are facing an issue of retriveing data from FileMaker Server 15 using PHP. The PHP throws a generic error as shown in the attached screenshot and there are not information on the Web publishing core log. Any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated. This is probably simple solution and I'm overlooking something... I'm creating an estimate solution with all of the "Items" in first table and the second table holds each estimate for the client. ie. there is a long list of "items" that would be easier to choose from if the list wasn't so long. Trying to constrict/filter the list by category. Two tables: Items & Estimates Two fields: Category and Item in both Need the list to be filtered by the category. I do not want to use a portal because the "Item" should be housed in the estimate. I've tried self-joining relationships but I seem to be missing something or they are only portal based?

I posted this in the FM Cloud forum but nobody responded ;-( I have searched all over for help on this and can't find anything at all. I have 2 d/bs on one FMCloud host that has a Connected Drive. Both d/bs have a Doc table with fields to create a link to open the relevant document. Until now, each user has been able to open a synced version of the document in a Dropbox folder on their local computer. Now I have a user who can't download FM Pro to her computer so I need to store the docs on FMCloud in a sub-folder on the Connected Drive for docs exclusively for this app. How do I create the sub-folder? Hypothetical file : The file has one table with three fields. Field one is a date. Field two is data. Field three is data. I would like to enter date and data. If any date in a new record is the same date already entered then you would do a search for the record that has the original date entered. Now you want delete the new record with the duplicate date. Our database is made up of different locations, towns, sites etc. There are thousands of entries, each day different locations are updated with current information. Hi I am mail merging 1000 records with one word document using Scribe. I would ideally like to mail merge them all into one document but I cannot find documentation to show me how to do this. Alternatively I am then trying to save each PDF with a unique name using the URN from that file. The error returned is Error 102 field missing. the field is on the layout and in the file. I have created a variable with the contents of the field and then use that in the name but it keeps giving me this error.

I have a folder with various students db. In the folder I have several files each of them is divided by tabs. I created a database with varioous fields and each of the matches the various files in the folder. As I click Import folders on any FMP Advanced versions on sonoma, ventura I only see FMP importing 3 Files as TEXT CONTENT, FILE NAME, FILE PATH this in each version from FMP15 to FMP19 I tried them all but while in 15 I see my original fields I cannot select the various tab files. as you will see in this image I add. This error message makes no sense to me: "This operation cannot be performed because one or more required related tables are missing." This is when I am trying to delete a message! I can understand not being able to create or edit a record because of a missing table but able to add and edit but not delete because of a missing table makes no sense to me at all! I'm working with a Filemaker database which is imported from a mysql server every night. It's imported, rather than set up as a direct external data source, for reasons of speed - it's just too slow to use otherwise. So up to now I have been doing an "add" import, by adding all the records from the external source, deleting all the omitted records if it succeeds, otherwise on an error, deleting the new imported records, and then showing the omitted ones again. Because of this, I've been careful to run the script after hours, because I worry that connected users may have trouble during this process, or records may be locked by users, and so the script would fail and leave …

I have several FM databases for a variety of reasons, and all of them have been in use for many years. I recently created a Record ID field in a few of the DBs to have another way of locating some of the data. But apparently, a record ID number is created when a new record is created. The existing records do not show this ID number. It would seem that each record in a FM db has a unique ID number, yes? Is there any way to populate this field with an existing ID number?

I have a calendar layout that I'm using for a classroom. On the List layout, each row is a week. Each day has its own Topic field and a Lesson Field (e.g. MonTopic, TuesTopic, MonLesson, TuesLesson, etc.) I have a Lesson table and a Topic table, and each Lesson record includes a topic field which is used to join the two tables. The Calendar table is not related to either table. On the Calendar layout, the topic field is filled in via a value list which is generated from the TopicName field on the Topics table. Our Filemaker Server and clients were updated to version 20 recently. Since the update a number of my files which are accessed over webdirect do not show the contents of portals. I've tried recreating the portals, checking the relationships, starting and stopping the database on the server etc but I can not get the portals to display on Webdirect. The webdirect versions were working at the start of the week on version 19. Has anyone else come accross a similar problem? Kind Regards, Dave.

Hello, I've been a Filemaker programmer for a long time, but on occasion I lose track of something that I should understand. A file has somehow gotten its date input formats switched around. My preference is to be able to enter DD/MM/YYYY, but I've done something to cause it to insist on YYYY/MM/DD. Related question, possibly? What is causing this dialog to appear, when opening just one particular database file? Not the same file as in the first query? Thank you!

I have a server hosted app. It sends emails to clients but when a user send the email it queues it and then the server runs a script to send the emails. This all works fine. The issue I am having is as follows: 1. When creating a new e-mail (new record/request) there is about a 10 second delay when entering the first field in the table and then the rest of the fields that are updated is quick. If I cancel the record creation and then create the email again there is no delay when entering the first field This only happens when access the server over a VPN into the rooms but not when accessing on a local PC in the rooms.
