I'm trying to configure the webcompanion on a win2000 box (standalone) so that the TCP/IP port is 591 rather than 80. Every time I change it from 80 I get this message. 7. My company has a small mac network running, with a file server running FMP 5 server and connected to the outside via 1.2mb dsl. Recently we just switched our gateway machine (a 7200 running ipNetrouter) with a MIH-130pro XRouter by Macsense. When we had the software gateway set up we had no problems getting to the filemaker server from the outside (port 5003), but since we've put this hardware router in, even when I open all ports to the server, it connects extremely randomly, and the only time it connects (if at all) is immediately after I reset the router. I was wondering if anyone had heard of a problem w/ this router and FMP 5 server or if anyone has any suggestions.…

I recently bought a new computer with Windows ME, and I'm running into all sorts of formating questions with my FM databases. I'm working with three solutions that were all created using a Macintosh. The UPS comes with a USB cable and software that runs on the iMac. The UPS software waits for a signal from the UPS saying it's lost AC power and is switching over to the battery. Then the UPS software on the Mac issues a shutdown command that shuts down the iMac. My question is, will FM Server 3 shut down gracefully in this situation? Or will it present a dialog box of some kind waiting for user input? Or, even worse, will it damage the open database files? The network that the files are on is rather large, and they are getting unacceptable speed problems. For instance, filling in a row of fields in a portal is taking on the order of two minutes, whereas filling it in locally (files opened on local hard drive) or on a smaller network, there is no time delay at all. They are on 100BaseT, as are our tests. One of the things I'm going to try to do is see if I can alter the calculations to work faster. But a clue to the degraded network speed was the IP addresses of the server and th…

I have a FMP4 Web Shared solution that works perfectly on Macintosh. When moven to a NT box the cookies stop working correctly. Specifically the expire time gets screwed up, resulting in the cookies not being created or being deleted if they already exist. If the expire time is greater than 44639 minutes the problem occurs, independently of browser being used (MSIE, NN, Mac or Win) which suggests to me it's an NT thing. Perhaps a bug in Web Companion? When running Photoshop all the fonts in fm go bad, also computer clocks go haywire (lose or gain time, 30-40mins day) and constantly have to be reset. Finally if I am using internet and running fm my connection hangs. I thought it was my dial up but it now does it with my DSL conection. It will open msn then go nowhere until i shut down fm and relog the dsl modem. Have had various computer and all have the same same including new Dell. I am trying to print a graphic (pict, 300dpi) in a layout (so it appears on every record) over a local network. It prints fine from the server but from any of the other computers on the network, the graphic prints at low-res, (chunky 72dpi). The server is running FMP4.1. I've done these two tests: 1) import the graphic onto the networked computer and printed it locally. Yes, it prints fine. 2) imported the graphic into a container field on the server and yes, it prints fine over the network. But the issue is that I have to have it in a Layout on the server and print at hi-res over a network. Any solutions would be most appreciated. thanks!

Hi, I'm wondering what the best way is to share a database. At least one computer must have remote access to the database. The problem I found is that with remote connection the complete database is send when a remote data request is done. Is it possible that only the requested data is send via the remote connection? I'm using FileMaker 4.0v3, do I need a FMpro 5 (server) ? Thanks, Sebastiaan.

8.6 or 9.0.4, what's faster/more stable? I've got a 7100 with a 266Mhz G3 in it that I use for running FMP 5. I run about 15 DB's on this machine. I plan to upgrade to FMP Unlimited and use it for the backend of a web site that's connected to MacOSXS Apache via WSC. Right now it's running 8.6, and everything seem fine, but I'm about to re-format to clean the thing up before I start using it in production, so I thought now might be a good opportunity to upgrade. My main concern is about any FMP Unlimited conflicts with the old hardware and the new OS (9.0.4) -- Any suggestions, Advice, Experiences?

  81. I'm running FileMaker Pro 4.1 on an iMac (OS9) configured with Open Transport PPP to create a dialup connection and then attempt to contact our FMP Server 3.0 via TCP/IP. This used to work on the old machine running ConfigPPP, but now it's crashing with OT PPP - the entire program quits unexpectedly with a Type 11, 2 or 3 error. OT is the most up-to-date version, as is OT PPP and I ran FMP Updater to 4.1v3 and that didn't help. It's not a PPP error, eveything else works. I've tried reinstalling FMP and that doesn't work either. Halp! Is this an OS9 compatability issue? I doubt it's an extension confilct because it's pared down to the fewest possible extensions.

I have just taken over this position and I do not know a lot about Filemaker. There is a Filemaker 4.0 installed on a Windows 98 machine. There is a Novell server. People can see the host when everybody has his Filemaker configured for IPX/SPX. The Novell server is only used by this application and I would like to switch FM4 to TCP/IP. But it does not work. The Win98 can see the network. Everybody is configured for TCP/IP, but none of the clients, PCs or Macs can see the host. Is there any solution? Upgrade to FM5? Move this Filemaker to an NT machine? Or something that I have to configurein the Network settings? Thanks a lot!
