So, what we really have is FileMaker Pro 7.5 not 8. What's your complaint?

I'm trying to store a FM8 file on a Mac OS X disk image (.dmg file). When I open the file from the mounted disk image and try to edit/add data, I get the error: "There is not enough room on the disk to complete this operation. Make more room on the disk, then try again." There's plenty of room (ten megs for a 68K file). It makes no difference whether the disk image is encrypted or not. I get the same message in FileMaker Developer (FM7) and FileMaker Advanced (FM8). Anybody else run into this problem?

I have 5 versions of FMP5 and just received an upgrade for FPMv8. To my horror it is only valid for FMPV6/7 Any recommendations on what to do from here? Obviously I cant by V6...nore can I return V8

I am using Office 2004 for Mac. Will the data merge manager in Word recognize a FileMaker Pro 8 database or does the data need to be exported? My Pro 8 database is greyed out when the data source selected is filemaker pro and the choices appear. Thanks, jacob

I designed a very useful little database that kept track of the Properties, Owners, Tenants. This information was great in the beginning but now we would like to keep track of tenant payments, security deposits and also add a module of Work Orders for the maintenance. I have a tab with the tenant information on it and would like to have on that same tab information about their payments. Just not sure where to start. When I try to open a file in Filemaker Pro 8 by double-clicking it or dragging it to the Filemaker icon, Filemaker starts, but the file doesn't open. If FM is already open, double-clicking the file works as expected. This is a new install of FMPro 8 on Mac OSX Tiger.

Hi all, Does anyone know how to make Data Viewer show invisibles (like carriage return symbols) in its Results window? Specifically, what I'm trying to do is see if I have carriage returns where I don't want them in a return delimited list that's created by parsing data from a Value list. I'm currently using a Script Variable to hold the results but I'm still having to set a global field to the variable's result to view unwanted carriage returns in it. This works but it sure would be nice to use the Data Viewer instead of a global field I've dragged onto a layout just for data viewing. Thanks in advance!

Is it true that Filemaker 7 doesn't support the scroll wheel on the mouse? I need a way to scroll through those big data fields that have a scroll bar on the side. I can't even see the contents scroll by when I hold and drag the scroll bar. Has anyone found a way to fix this?

So, this is a seemingly simple problem w/a seemingly simple solution, but... After having not used FMP 7 on my PC for about a week (running XP service pack 2), I tried to open the application yesterday afternoon to create a new database. FMP 7 begins to initialize, but after about 5 seconds the splash screen goes away and it fails to launch and dies on me. The application never actually opens. By the way, I'm running FMP 7 v1a. Greetings all I seem to be encountering a reoccuring problem with indexing. I would like to know if anyone is experianceing similar problems. In general our problem consists of a several oddities all relating to indexed fields. I have an inventory solution in which we capture a large bit of information regarding our material. I see reoccuring problems when personnel search for material based on a Tag #, Location code, modification date and user. all fields are set to index all. When moving some datasets from Filemaker 6 to 7 to 8, I noticed one "feature" that no longer worked well in 8. I have a script makes a DDE call to an outside application-it turns out that it does not matter which application. The script has a loop and depending on the data it has to work on, will make make a DDE call for each record-which could be hundreds if not more calls. After exactly 128 DDE calls, the DDE function stops working. You have to exit FPro 8 in order for it to work again. Flushing the cache, puttting a pause in the script, exiting the script, making a DDE call to a different application has no effect. Only exiting the app does. This was never an is…

I posted this earlier but have yet to get a response. I have a text field that stretches 7 pages on a layout. In FM7 I have no problem with this. In FMP8 there is a terrible delay between pressing a key on the keyboard and when the letter actually shows-up on the screen. Anyone else notice this problem? Hi... It is possible to open more than two files in File Maker and switch to one and to another by pressing ALT+TAB (like the explorers in Windows)? Our IT director set up an install script so that all our employees would have to do is double-click on the Pro 8 set-up file and pick English for the language. We are in a testing period with approx 10 individuals and the install when fine for 6 of them. The others receive an error message that basically states "FileMaker can not be installed or uninstalled on this version of Windows". I run XP Professional and can install fine but others running on the same can not. What's going on?

I have a field that is specified as a button. When I click on the button, a pop-up window appears where I select what data I want to assign to the field that was clicked on for the current record. When no data is assigned to this field, it reads Please Specify Company. I have written a script that duplicates most of the fields in the current record and puts their contents in a new record, the Company field being one of them. Unfortunately, my script is not duplicating the company name from the current record to the new record. Hi every one, I have Find [] script that finds the modified records per Current Date. Also I am produsing a report , new layout, with sub summary and summary based on the user and manager. I am counting the records per user and per manager. I do not have a problem here. The problem is that I need only the Syb Summary per User and SubSummary per manager . I do not need to show the actual record. I do not select the fields for the report layout. When i do that the data from records are not showing but still I have "empty rows" (records) ... Hi All, I recently took the company files from FM6 to FM7/8. There is an opening script and after tracing through it I located the problem to one particular script that opens all these files. I already cleaned up all the duplicate file references. This process of opening all the files took about 7 seconds to complete in FM6 but with both Fm7 and FM8 it now takes 43 seconds. Merging files with tables is not an option right now because of the tight deadline. I will leave that project for another day. Eventually this solution will be hosted remotely, but as of right now it is only local to my PC for development. I also deleted the .tmp files already. …

Until version 5 I inserted "Enter" in a field with CTRL+ Enter and this is read correctly from an electrical cad who read the table through ODBC But from version 8 CTRL+Enter inserts a different char code. Two questions: - from what it has been replaced the CTRL+Enter? - like I make to insert a specific ASCII code?

We have a couple people developing on Macs, and a few on Windows. If we change the layouts on one platform, they end up looking different on the other. (I haven't seen this myself, yet... new to the project) Is this a common problem? I suggested it was maybe a fonts issue, but was told, "its not that things get nudged out of place by a few pixels, but they'll be totally off in a different position." Any help on this issue?

Does anyone know how to export (via Scriptmaker) the layout fields into an existing Excel file. Whenever I export to the filepath of an existing file it overwrites the file. I'd like to have a "Sheet2" which will have preformatted charts so when I import (from FM8-via export to excel) the data I can see the graphs updated. Thank you anyone.....stumped.

Upon upgrade to FMS8, it became apparant that our file is corrupt. FMS8 noted the corruption about 4 hours after regular use and shut the file down. I can recognize the corruption by the inability to import a particular text field (results) in one table (Results), only 10% of the records will come across to the clone of the corrupt file. All will come across if a new database is created and all will come across into a new text field created in the cloned file. One of the fields in my table can have forward slashes, pluses and hyphens, but I cannot get a find to match them. I've tried escaping with a and wrapping them in "", but never get a match. How do I enter the search string to find the / character? Thanks Graham

I am having a major problem with very slow response in FMP8. I am using Dragon Naturally Speaking and when I use it in FM7, text is entered into a text box as I speak at a very quick rate - hardly any delay. Now, in version 8, it is soooooo slooooow. I can type much faster - and I'm a hunt and peck typist! It seriously is about one letter per second. One other major problem I have noticed is this: Create a layout and drag the body down so that it is 7 pages long. Create a single text box (not text field, just a text box) that stretches the entire 7 pages. Then type some text into the text box. The delay is unbearable. Hi, I need to build to a customer of mine a simple billing database. He gets max up to 1,000,000 records per month. So lets say we keep records for the last 2-3 years with something like 20,000,000 records. Most of the fields (20) will be non-calc. My question is, can FMP8 handle it? how would be the performance? did anyone try it? Can anyone suggest a good schema? My intentions where for each box (Sending CDRs) create a table. But I don't know if to create them all in the same file or to seperate it... Any comment will be appreciated. P.S I can use MySql/Radius, but I'm an FMP junky...

This was an issue in FM7, but it seems still an issue. The issue is that windows disappear from the "Window" menu if you navigate to different filemaker database windows. Is anyone else seeing this? I reported this under version 7 to filemaker.

Hello there, We have Pro 7 installed on two Citrix servers (Win2k Server SP4, Metaframe XPa) and are experiencing a few performance problems when running in the users ICA sessions (ICA v9.00), (we also run Filemaker Server 8) Most noticable, when flicking between the records there is a considerible delay, especially when clicking on the Next or Back button more than once. We have tested by loading the Pro7 software directly on the Citrix server (not in the ICA session) and it works fine! Any ideas how to improve the performance on Citrix??

The company I work for is all Mac based and is running Filemaker Server 5. I just set up my new PC with filemaker 7. When I try to "Open Remote" to access the server, the "OPEN" button at the bottom is greyed out. I entered the IP address as a favorite, and it will not let me "OPEN" anything, it remains greyed. I know this supremely noob question must have an very simple answer, I have yet to find it. What do I need to do to be able to access the server/files? Thanks in advance.

Is there anyway to place a tab space into a merge field via a calculation? I've creating a merge field, I'm wanting to have the Item name left aligned, then the cost right aligned on the same line. I can get the name and cost working, but having a consistent space between the Item name and cost is proving beyond my calc. experience?

I am starting work on a major update to a system that I have inherited from previous developers. The current solution uses multiple separate files as it was originally developed in Filemaker 5 and 6. I need to add more tables to the solution - does it cause any issues if the new tables are all added within a single file and relationships set up with the existing files as required? Eventually I anticipate using Filemaker 8 to get all the tables into a single file so this would be a step in that direction if it does not cause any problems to run a mixture of multiple tables in one file alongside the existing separate files.

Hello there FMP Users. Has anyone else experienced this? Only after applying the FMP7.0v3 patch (Windows), buttons that perform a script containing a 'Goto related Record' script step do not work. (At least that step does not function - the rest of the script is OK). I have tested and can confirm that: a) These scripts worked fine before the patch was applied. Configuring a button with just the Goto Related Record step (as opposed to perfoming a script to do this) works fine, both before and after patching. c) Installing 7.03a Patch does not resolve this issue. d) I have also tried creating a brand new test DB (in FMPv7.03a in fact), to try this out and…

I recently upgraded my report card program from FM5 to FM7 and am getting an error " This record cannot be modified in this window because it is already being modified in a different window. I am trying to change records (language to Arts). FM is opening a window with the records being changed while my main report window is open. Is this because a field in the lookup file is "set" and waiting input? The program worked fine in FM5. Any thoughts

I have completed a major database for my school using FMP7. The school has bought a FMP7 site licence for every computer in the school to run my database. If I convert to 8 - the new tab tool is something that will really save me a lot of time - am I right in assuming that the school will need to update to FM8 as well? Here's an insteresting question about script variables - Are Global ($$) variables (with 1 repetition)going to hold the same value for each user in a multi-user situation? I couldn't find any documentation concerning this. When I read "Global", I think like a Global Text Field - each user has their own instance of it. Or in other words - database is being hosted on Server. User A runs Script X that sets variable $$Title to "whatever". User B comes along, and calls another script in the same file that calls $$Title - will that script receive "whatever", or something else? I believe in the long run this won't matter either way, but I can be wrong…

I have been trying to open a file, but keep getting the error: "Filename" is currently in use and could not be opened. If the file is shared, you can use the Open Remote command to open the file on the network. No one else is using the document, I triple checked. The Open Remote command didn't work. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hi, This file is the core of a accounting system I made a few years ago. It was first developed in FM 6 and then translated to FM 7, so far no problem. A few weeks ago I tried to run it over FM 8, everything works fine just for a small detail: I can't perform finds in date fields, when I try it gets a very strange error and then quits FM. It took me some time to "isolate" the problem, because everything else works fine. - First a supposed it was an script error, so I eliminate it (and eventually all of them). - Then all the relationships. - Then all the fields but one, "the" date field. I have a portal that when I enter preview mode to print one row will collapse the row to about half the size, cutting off half the data fields. When I enter another row it's fine. This is not a problem on Windows, works fine, but on the Mac it does it every time with just one row of data. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hey, Just received my copy of FM Pro 8 Advanced and tried to install it. I have a G4, 1 ghz, 256 mb ram and OS X 10.3.9. Everything works fine, i can se the installation beginn and the progress bar moving, but after a minute or so it just stops and returns to the previous dialog (the one where you choose custom och ordinary installation). And I try again and the same thing happens yet one more time. Anyone that has any tips or now what the problem is? Thank you!

FM PRO 7: Could someone please open up this file and let me know why the button is doing what it does. I have a button that is supposed to open a new window of a certain size, switch its layout, allow the user to select a few options and then you submit it. all the functions work and it opens the new window, but it automatically resizes the main window to the other size window as well. i want the main window to stay the same size. I have on layout with a tab (2 tabs). If you put portals on the tabs and run a script from the non dominant tab, after the script is done, it always defaults to the first tab. Even if you put the portals outside of the tab but you are on the second tab, it still defaults to the first tab. This makes a yucky interface. Is there a way to control this?

Hi there, I was setting up a new database, and managed to make a field use a calculation which generates an infinite loop, and now I can't get to the file, it just hangs when I try to open. I can see the file if I set up a relationship from a dummy file, I can import information and scripts, but I can't get the file open. I tried Apple-Period, no help. Anything I can do? Thanks!

I use the Arial MT fonts as a default, since they're installed by the Acrobat Reader installer and we do a LOT of pdf creation for invoicing and such. However, the font does not show up in 8 (on the windows side, our macs are fine). I look into the Configure/more fonts menu item and I see the list of fonts there, but Arial MT is missing. FM 6 lists it. Anyone else seen this behavior? Is it a Postscript issue? I say that as I'm only seeing fonts in the Configure/More menu that have the TT symbol. Though why FM would drop PS support beats the *** outta me. Thanks in advance- Tony

When I create a new record I want the first button to be already selected by default but at the moment all three are just empty. Is this possible? 2. Is there a simple way to force a field to use Title Case. For instance if I'm lazy and type in, say germany (ie. with a lower case 'g') as I click return i want it to change automatically to Germany. Can anybody help me by explaining how I can generate a series of invoices in one process? As you might guess, - I'm not very good at writing scripts... I have a database with several tables. I want to generate new invoices in the invoice-table from a selection in the member-table.

I have a report I generate for my customers, at the end of the report, I want to throw in discriptions on how to fix the issues that the report lists. Is there a way to get something to only show up on/after the LAST page? I'm playing around with it now, and have been for a bit, hoping someone else has hit this problem. For those interested: Title Footers print only on the FIRST page of the document, and Footers Print on every page.

I'm planning on updating from FMP 5 to 8. What isn't fully clear is the difference between 8 and 8 advanced. I understand the ability to create runtime versions. The rest appears to more around making some things easier, versus adding different capabilities (ie. debugging). My needs are intermittant (hence the long time between upgrades)and not particularly sophisticated. I'll be generally just putting together databases for myself or a small workgroup. But if the Advanced version has better tools, I can probably justify it just based on my time savings. The database was too erraticly written for it to properly convert, so it was my job to write a whole new system in 7. I hit a stopping point when the email plugin (pop-it by cnsplug-ins) would lock up. They made a new version, and it fixed that problem. We are running Pro7 (v3a) and are experiencing a strange thing with the fonts in some of our databases. When typing in the 150% view (in Arial) the fonts sometimes start showing as obscure fonts i.e. not english!!...when dropping down to 100% the view fine (and if you go back 150% after that it is ok again!!) Any ideas with font problems such as this or similar?? Cheers

I know I can export sql to a database, but can I import and export sql in real time? My company currently has a web-based database which stores data into a SQL DB. What I want to do is propose a FM DB to the company with more functions and efficiency than what we currently have. On top of that, I would like to keep the current database but make FM able to import/export data to the sql databse that way both the original and the FM database are usable and up to date. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Hello all, I have been trying to make a small car rental program so that everytime I rent a certain car the mileage will always be correct. The car info is kept in a seperate file and I use the lookup function to pull over the Car Number, Plate, Yr, make etc,, but when I pull the starting mileage over I want it to be the ending mileage of the previous rental. I dont want the starting mileage to change on the rental form when inputting the mileage in. I hope this make sense. Thanks in advance.

I'd like to walk a user through invoicing by asking first for an invoice name (with custom dialog) which works fine and then ask who the buyer is and have the user select from a value list. Is there anyway to have a user do this without going to the field on the layout? Ideally I'd have something like the Custom Dialog box, but with a value list field. Possible? I've looked around this site and I'm beginning to think I'll have to figure out a different way. Your help is MUCH appreciated!

Anyone else seeing this? If you have a layout with a tab panel, and a script which goes to another layout, when the script returns you return to the original layout, often a different tab is selected than the one you started from? Edit -- I know you can manually select the tab by using a Go To Field statement, but this is ugly and requires extra script logic. I'd like to know how FM determines which tab to select...

I support a medical research group that uses FMP to manage a genetic screening process. The DB's live on a newish xServe, and the clients are all current model MacOS workstations. The users report that during a work day, the system behaves well in the morning, but as the day goes on, everything slows down. Any ideas?

We have experienced this behaviour a lot of times but still don´t know how to solve it. The thing is that scripts using 'loop' and 'go to next record' to do something to all, or a lot of records in a table, go incredibly faster in the beggining of the table and then it slows down as it goes down the table. ¿Has anyone notice this before? I am talking of tables with more than 200.000 records and scripts that take 10 hours or more to finish running in a FM7pro against FMServer v.3 installed in the same computer.

I just started a new job and this is the first time I have been exposed to Filemaker Pro. The company I work for is quite small and their Filemaker Pro is extremley important. What I would like to ask is if it is possible to port the entire Filemaker installation from the server to my laptop so I can mess around and learn with a local installation of the database without the fear of destroying anything that is live. I want to clean up my solution that was migrated from v6 to v8 Advanced. I now have a number of file references like 'Contacts 2', 'Contacts 3', etc. all referring to the same file(s). I tried running the DDR producing HTML (should it be XML?), but FM can't seem to find files that are already open in Filemaker. Then the sucker locked up when I tried to cancel the DDR. Does anybody have any suggestions? Steve

hi, i am kinda tired of using excel to track my checkbook. I will like to build a database that will ask me for date, description, payment, deposit and account balance. The idea is to create sort of like a mini-checkbook. I have tried a number of ways to make this work in filemaker but perhaps i dont understand how databases work. thanks in advance.

We recently installed Filemaker Pro 8 Advanced on two Dual 1.8 GHz G5 macs running OS X 10.4.2, and Filemaker Pro 8 on a Dual 1Ghz G4 running OS X 10.4.2. On all three machines, using the PDF services selections by pushing the PDF button in the Print dialog box is resulting in significantly larger PDF files. Using the same database and the same four records in the same layout, the resulting PDF created using either 'Save as PDF...' or 'Mail PDF' in Filemaker Developer 7 results in an 840 KB file. Finally! have upgraded from 6 to 8 and am loving it! That aside... I have an integrated system (insanely relational) that runs on the FM6 platform. It has about 16 different databases, logs with image scans, auto-schedulers, calendars, staff lists, etc. I don't know how much I can/should combine these databases down into separate tables in 8--I'm wondering about file size (due to image scans) and ease of archiving (either the whole thing, or individual tables). Since I'm new to 8, not exactly sure what's the best to do. What are people's thoughts and recommendations on this? Thanks!

I want to display the total count of records of the database, the number of records of the foundset and the number of the record being browsed so I can display record 22th of the 600 found records out of 8000. In pre FMP 7 I used 3 global fields that were refresh by a script that used set fields and Get function. Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum, so if not, feel free to move it to where it should be. With FM8 (or 7 for that matter) running on Windows XP, when you select a script from the "Define Scripts ..." dialog, you can print it to hard copy or to a file. My question is...when you "print to file", how can you get anything meaningful out of the file? Which program can it be viewed in, so that it doesn't appear as a bunch of gibberish? I then purchased 7.0, put the disc in, doubled clicked the FMP icon, entered my name, company and the codes that came with it. But when I try to open it or any 7.0 files. I'm trying to prevent the modification of a record once a value of a particular field has been set. I tried to do this with the field validation but this doesn't work as smoothly as I would like. Somehow when I click on scripts after I attempted to modify the record, it somehow allows it then eventually the validation message comes in then says would you like to abort the script. It is a little clunky. What I would like is for the user to experience as though the field became non-modifiable. I managed to get this experience by setting the user's privelege set to allow modification based on the value of the field. This works great with the only exception of th…

I used FMpro 7 for the first time last week at a new job and went to do a basic search for a client's name in a contact management database -- I realized that I was not in proper 'find mode' while doing this and now every contact I view in 'form view' layout has this one name that appears floating in grey on top of the actual name (in black) of whichever entry I'm looking at. So basically if I open John Smith's file, Jane Doe's name appears over top in the first and last name fields. When I click on these fields the grey name disappears, but as so…

Hi, I'm trying to create a database for tracking jobs in our office. It begins with project record that is related to a bid record. I have the idea to keep that bid "open", meaning allow the user to modify fields in it while that bid is out. Once we receive notificiation of bid approval, I'd like to lock the bid record from modification, since all cost tracking from that point forward will be done within a budget record for that project. Is there a way to lock a record once a specific action is taken? ie button clicked, field fillled in? I can't seem to find how to do it on my own. The text formatting in a field needs to be made consistent. For example, I have a field which is formatted in layout mode as Helvetica 10, but entries in this field can be formatted differently in different records, especially if the data is pasted into the field. In FM 5.5 I was able to make the formatting consistent by using Replace (using a calculated result where the calculation is the name of the field itself) This is from Article 103775 in the Filemaker Knowledge Base. But this doesn’t seem to work in FM 7. Any suggestions? I need a simple way to make the formatting consistent. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am trying to make a splash screen that will display the user name, a greeting, maybe a picture and a message... I am trying to use a calculation like this: Case ( Get(CurrentTime) > Time (4;0;0) and Get(CurrentTime) < 16;0;0); "Good afternoon" And it works, but when it gets within the hour it doesn't work. I set up a script in Filemaker 7 to create a new pop up window that is smaller than the origional window. When the script runs that pops up the new window, it re-sizes my origional window and places it directly behind the new smaller window. I don't want that to happen. I want the origional window to stay as it was. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I wasn't sure where to put this post as it is partially scripting, barcode scanners, and the like. Here's the problem. I have a friend who works at a local hardware store who I am trying to convince to use FMP for his inventory. Currently he does the pencil-n-paper method of counting everything in the store when they have to do inventory. He would like to use his store's laptop computer and a scanner gun (barcode) to walk around the store and "zap" the UPC code to inventory it. Hi, I was just playing around with the great new features of V8 and I'm so glad to find that the SetField script step finally allows us to specify a repetition based on a variable or calculation. When playing with this feature, my script accidentally tried to set a repeating field, without specifying the repetition number, i.e. the variable that should have held the repetition number was empty or 0. Much to my amazement, another field (which holds the average of the repeating field) suddenly showed data, while none of the repetitions of the target field actually showed anything !? Has / does anyone use multiple monitors with vers. 7? Are there any ways to have different layouts on 2 screens. I suspect this may be a problem because windows in FMP are MDI children and not seperated. Perhaps using a 3rd part monitor utility? A bandaid approaach may be to run 7 and Dev 7 simultainiously? ... After I updated FM7 with abovementioned update 7.0v3a, I can't get FM started since it needs the installation CD. I am not working in the office right now and I am using a laptop. I don't have my cd's of my programs with me. At this moment I cannot use FM at all and I cannot use my FM-files. Can this be solved? Can the latest update be uninstalled? It will take some days before I am at my office again and can use the installation cd!

Just got the 8 upgrade and was testing the backup files first and ran into a problem where the fields from all of the previous records are not accessible. When you open the Invoice dbase you can see all 1200 records but you see no text in the fields and they are not a selectable item. If you try to select a field and type into it you get the prompt indicating that you should select a field first. However, if I create a new invoice it works fine and I can see everything. Is anyone else experiencing some quirky behavior with drop down menus? It only fills the field out with the ID but puts both the ID and the name in the display of the field. Is there a way to turn this off? Also, since I upgraded to 8, I get a spinning beach ball on some value lists, filemaker freezes and then crashes...argghhh. (especially if you are showing info. from a different table in the second field). This worked fine in 7.

Hi Guys, Ive finally migrated my FP5 solution to the new FP7 format, and boy its been great learning the new language and the potential power of FMP 8. Im going to be embarking on a new project and I'd like to use the "transactional" method of data entry, i.e. use a save/submit button which will be scripted to commit records once the user has finished editing or adding a record. Using FM8 Advanced, after setting the "Show records using layout:" selection within the Go To Related Record options dialog and clicking OK, the scriptmaker view shows where the layout selection should be. The script runs properly, it just doesn't look correct. Anyone else seeing this? I search the forum and FM's knowledgebase for this issue, but couldn't find it.

I believe FMP7 Developer shipped with media and a non-commercial (debug, development, etc.) license for Server 7 Advanced. Does anyone know if this will still be the case with FMP8 Advanced and Server 8? Chris

We recently read that the "save compacted copy" option should be used before attempting a recovery. We then made the perhaps illogical conclusion that the smaller, the better, and began saving compacted copies of our customers data files, especially after converting them from FM6 to FM7. We then read that you should not compact files when large amounts of data are to be added to the file, which, unfortunately, is the case with our customers. And then we started getting reports of slow performance, especially during find requests. Our suspicion is that the two are related. This has been reported on both Mac and Windows machines. I am trying to type "Sony Classical/Legacy" in the Palatino font 14pt. size into a field. The "/" immediately changes the "L" to an "L" with a slash through it. I find the same thing happens with an "O". What can I do about this? The same thing does not happen with a few different fonts I tried and the same thing does not happen in Word. I can make a space: "Classical /.." but that's not the same thing. Thanks in advance for some help.

Hello FileMaker whizzes, Our database has been behaving strangely for a few months now, (see "Mysterious Portal Problem" and "Difficulty Deleting Records") and I have been unable to fix the problems.
