    I know in previous versions of Filemaker you couldn't use scrollbars in a checkbox field. Has this been fixed? If so how do you do it?

    I have a look up happening between two databases that is troublesome. When I create a new record, the look-up doesn't happen. If I move on, define fields or something (haven't found trigger) and come back, the values are then populated. I have other look-ups happening using different relationships that work fine. Anyone have any ideas why these won't happen. BTW the relationship is an indexed calculation with a value of 1 between both databases. Like the cartesian X value between relationships.

    Hi all I'm trying to understand the way some templates of FMP 7 work, e.g. "Resource Scheduling.fp7" or "Task Management.fp7". In these files, I see in almost every table, a field named "one", calculated, value = 1 and also relations based on that field. I understand that it always, in every row of every table that contains it, it equal to 1. Can anybody explain what is this field? Why and how it is used and what we can wait from a relation between two tables based on a field like that? Thanks for your time NLo

  5. Hello, I have a problem of import data from another table in same file. I have a script to import data from Table B to Table A, I used filemaker network path "fmnet:/192.168.1.11/testfile", because this is a sharing database. However, when remote user run this script, their FM7 crash and quit. Only host can run this script with no problem. Is it a FM bug or I used a wrong file path? Please help! Damon

    Ok, this is the same database i posted about before. It is something for me to keep easy track of the PCs (and other related equipment) in my office so that i know which ones are next on the upgrade cycle. I basically have a table that lists all the different pieces of equipment. Due to the fact that certain things like monitors and scanners will be attached to a particular PC, i made a relationship back to itself. We purchased the product with a number of user licenses.     I'm writing an application to track health history for athletes. Essentially each student fills out an on-line health questionaire to which they answer yes or no to each question. If yes, they fill in the details. There are 90 questions on the current questionnaire but it needs to be modifiable by an administrator. I only want to retain the "yes" information for that student.     Hi, I did a search for this but probably got my wording wrong. I have a new field, called 'avtive record'. I want all of my 400 records to have the value of 'yes'. I set it up so new records default to 'yes', but how can I make all existing records take on that value? Is there a way similar to Excel, whrer you can have one value at the top of a table, then Fill Down to all the other records?     I have a main database with relationships to 3 other databases. After converting these to FileMaker Pro 7.0v2 the main database no longer "finds" the related files. When the related file is called FM7 gives an alert message that the file can't be found. When I click OK, it lists all the files in that folder & I can choose the file that should be opened. After doing so the main database file will relate to this target file fine until I quit FM7. When I restart, the same alert message appears. What did i do wrong? Or what changes do I have to make in the scripts, etc.? Sure would appreciate any help you can give me.

    I recently upgraded to FM7 from FM3. I have a small business that I run with FMP, consisting of 3 files - Contacts, Invoices and Products. I believe these came as templets in FM2.1. They are linked together via "lookup" (sorry for my lack of proper FM terminology) and worked perfectly until FM7. The file I am having problems with is Invoices. I had a repeating field that via lookup would bring over product name and price when I entered the part number. Once I converted it to FM7, only the first row would lookup the requested info - the other fields no longer filled in.     I am recreating a solution in FM7, and I have to say I am about to pull my hair out. My biggest issue is it has turned my once super-duper PC, into the equivalent of an old 256 (or worse.. the old Apple II i used to have). WHAT THE - nothing drives me more mad than the slowness that has occurred with the shift to FM7. When dragging objects in layout mode i have to wait forever for the item to catch up with the mouse. lets not even start on the font rendering. Has anyone heard anything of a patch coming out anytime soon? I've just convinced them in my last project to convert from access to filemaker... Doesn't look too good!!!

I'm working with FM 7 on a project and want to use a popup to select a value from a foreign table to assign an FK value in the current table. I can get this to work but not cleanly.   27. I'm certain I'm just missing something but how do I set a specific repetition in field1 based on the value in field2? In other words if field2 contains 6 I want to set repetition#6 in field1 to value X. I've browsed this board and searched docs/etc. but all I've found is the Set Field command which requires a hard-coded repetition #.     I'm working on a solution for scheduling patient appointments on a layout that shows seven days at a time. I created a unique relationship for each appointment slot for each day of the week so that when appointments are made, the patient's name is displayed next to the appropriate time. This makes it easier to see exactly which appointment slots are available and how much time (space) is between any two appointments. I have a file, and when I create a portal (with scroll bars) and place it in the header or the footer of a document, the portal is nearly unusable because of redraw problems: when I scroll using the arrows strings of bits stream across the portal, when I scroll by a page (clicking above or below the "thumb" of the scroll bar) most of the records are not updated on the screen. (You can see this because when you select a portal row, suddenly the "real" data in the portal is shown.     Using IMac OS10.2.8. Up graded to FM7 and converting files from FM5. There has been some talk about FM7 slow speed. From my perspective the solution is so slow I don't want to actually put it to use in the company until there is a fix but I'll continue converting the scripts and upgrade features until the fix is available (assuming it will be). Seeemingly simple question: I created a merge field (name) that consists of theses 5 individual fields: title, first name, middle name, last name, suffix. that would yield e.g. Mr. John Henry Doe, Jr. My problem is that on the layout, in layout mode this text box takes up too much space on my layout.   35. I use filemaker as my database from which I sell business leads. I have one client who only wants businesses in a particular SIC code who also has a fax number. I have many fields per record including SIC code and Fax number. I am hoping that someone can tell me a simple way without using scripts which I've never done, how to do these in find mode. I realize to enter the SIC Code in the SIC Code field, but I have no idea of what to enter into the fax field. I've tried "=", and "==" as well as "=" with the omit button checked, but none of those work. Merging a name: Field1: FirstName; Field 2: MiddleName1 Field3: MiddleName2 (some people have 2 middle names); Field4: LastName In Layout, I use the insert merge field function to put the fields together and I leave a single space between the inner merged fields. However, if the person does not have a middle name(s) I am left with extra spaces that make it look askew.   41. Hi, I'm a newbie trying to make a script and, after a few days of messing with it, am in need of some help. I'm making a Medical Record script for my summer camp kids which has 3 tables. Demographics, Encounters, and Medications log. My script uses the patients name as the constraining information and goes to each table, looks for the patient, and then prints the data.   43. I have a database with a number of relations. It is often convenient to see in view A the number of related records in table B (where A<->B is a many:many relation via an intermediate table). So I put a calcuation field in Table A Count (Table B::tUniqID) and this displays the number of related records in B. The problem comes when A is a Table Occurrance that references an table in an different file. I can't create the field locally (where the relationship between A and B is defined). All relationships are by keys. JT records are created from T1, and the T2 key is looked up via a secondary relationship based on a global text field in the join table.   46. Im deploying Server 7 and I see that when I try to open remote from my FM7 client I only see certain files. The files I see were multi user files when they were created in FMP6. The ones I cant see were created as stand alone. In Server 5 you could have server host single user files. However, I can't find that option in Server 7.   47. Is there a method of doing this in FMP7, where it doesn't store the insert as a referenced link only? I spent a good hour or two playing around with it, and every time I inserted a hardcoded imagewin: link, it would break the link when the image moved like an OLE object. This is important for uploading files and automating inserting them into container fields. If there's not a way to store the image in FMP7 from a "Set field" command, or to be able to use the "Insert image" and have the values based off of fields. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  49. Curious if anyone has come up with a nifty technique for displaying different portals (one at a time, in the same space on the same layout) depending on some variable condition. I have different sets of related information that I would like to show in one common area of a layout, but I do not want to duplicate layouts in order to show the different portals. Being able to hit a button (effectively, to change a global field) and then show a different portal in a "portal space" would vastly improve some layouts. I messed around with the portal "visibility" technique to try to do this but could not come up with a workable solution. Thoughts?

  57. Im having a little problem with filemaker 7. I have a layout with a portal of records. When you click on the portal line a new window is created with more information on that related record. In the new window I have 2 buttons that I created(Save, Cancel). The Save button calls a script and checks the 2 fields that are editable and makes sure everything is filled in fine and then saves. The Cancel button calls a script that Reverts the record and closes the window and goes to main window.     Is is possible to use a variable or field in the right side of the equation for the "Specify Find Request" option that is now part of the Perform Find Script Step? It seems like the only place I can enter a field is in the left side of the equation. On the right it looks like I can only enter an operator and a constant.     Hello, A client comes to us for a solution on FileMaker. We downloaded Filemaker pro 7 trial version. and are requested to update data to FileMaker Pro 7 over ODBC. We installed DataDirect 32-bit sequeLink 5.4, but ODBC administrator doesn't identify the driver. (we examined the list, and found all drivers are microsoft branded.) We aslo tried to install the driver following the windows standard installation(control pannel, add/remove programs), and the problem persisted.   63. I am completely baffled trying to configure the ODBC drivers. I have a web site that uses a PERL script and flat text file to server dynamic pages. I want to use FM7 to run backend operations off the database. I have the drivers installed, no problem. I go to ODBC Configure, add a new File DSN, follow the steps in the Filemaker Help, click the OK's to quit. When I go to FM and try to import from ODBC the data source doesn't appear, nor is there any way to navigate anywhere. Just the Cancel button. Back to ODBC configure...... Back to FM..... I am lost. Can anyone point me in the right direction or to a good tutorial? Thanks

  65. Hello- Whenever I add or modify a calculated field, in order for it to take effect, I have to re-enter the fields that it depended on. Is there a way to make the fields update themselves automatically? For example, to find out the age of a client, I enter their date of birth into "DOB", then via an auto-entered calculation "Age" will be populated with the correct age depending on the date in "DOB". But, for records that had the DOB entered BEFORE I added the calculation to "Age", the "Age" will not update.     I recently updated to 7v2 and there was little difference in launch speed on OS 10.3.3. I even manually ran update_prebinding from the command line to try and fix this. Yesterday I updated all of my machines to 10.3.4.... FM7 launch speed increased dramatically. Even on my G3 ibook 500, it launches almost immediately. (It used to take >30 seconds) Anyone else see this or have an explanation? Dana

    Newbie question #1: The radio buttons in my database operate sluggishly. I click on the radio button and about 0.5 - 1 second later the button graphic changes to indicate that it is selected. Now 0.5 - 1 second later may not seem like a long time, but its enough time to make the end-user wonder if he/she clicked it correctly in the first place. I can reproduce this delay in a brand new 1 table file with only 1 field. To make things really interesting, if I create a database from a "FileMaker Template" (e.g. Contact Management), I can create a radio button field that responds instantaneously to my clicks (no delay)... as would be expected.     Not sure if this is a bug in FM7 or a bug within my database - I can recreate this over and over. I have a layout that contains fields from that table (ids), related fields (codes and cost) and 1 related field from a table more than 1 table away (product name). When I add a record to this layout, the related codes and costs get filled in correctly but the product name does not. To make this appear I need to go to define databases (on the relationship tab), then double click on a relationship and then close the dialogues back to the layout and it magically appears!?   69. Hello- I am trying to put together a calculation that will determine how many days it has been since an invoice has been submitted. I tried the following calculation: DayOfYear ( Get ( CurrentDate ) ) - DayOfYear ( DATE SUBMITTED ) The problem is that it fails when the dates span 2 calendar years. Is there a better way to write this that will give an exact number of days? Also is there a way to display the answer in "X months and Y days". Any help would be greatly apprecitated. Thank you.

    Has anyone else seen this behavior yet? Freeze Window does not work in a script that also calls for printing in the script. See below. Go to Layout [Layout 1] Freeze Window Go to Layout [Layout 2] Print [Restore; No dialog] Go to Layout [Layout 1] Refresh Window As soon as the systems dialog "Printing Page 1 of 1" comes up Layout 2 is also drawn though it should not be.     I'm not sure why, but using a 'Set Field' command when switching to a layout in one of my scripts will Set the field the correct value, and then leave the cursor in the field even though it's not allowed to be data entered in browse mode. Users can then type in anything and everything they want, and then when the leave the field it saves it. Unless I'm blind, I can't see the 'Exit Record/Request' script step they had in FM6. I could do a Insert Calculated Result in another field (I think, at least), but that seems rather silly.

    I am working on a database and have been very disappointed by the speeds I am seeing for browsing records. I finally found one of the sources. The attached pdf is of a "Thumbnail" view that I created. This is done by a relationship between a global and a unique ID for each image. The page consists of 9 portals, each 4 rows high, which show an image. I can scroll this view by changing the global that defines the relationship (with a script, of course).     Hello all, I should start with version 7 in a few days and have tested the trial version, but I cant make following: When I should convert my old FM5.0 database I think I should start from scratch but its a lot of scripts and saving time I figure about reusing the scripts. I tryed import scripts to the trial version. I can see the scripts but not mark them and not import them into FM7.     When a user performs certain functions, such as adding a new record, I want my application to do certain things, either before or after this action takes place. The only way I know how to accomplish this is to write a script and provide a button that the user can click to execute it. My problem is that if the user selects the New Record option from the Records menu or uses the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+N, my script is altogether sidestepped. Now, I can instruct users to always use my button rather than the menu option but that seems like a rather unprofessional solution to me. What do other developers do to overcome this problem?

Excited that they made all these great changes, but feels like I have to start my training all over again. Anyway, I need some help. I downloaded FBT to take a look under the hood. I am in Korea, and I found when I import a file with Korean filename and show the filename in the records(not having problems with importing those files with Korean names) or when I use value lists with Korean text to use in Radio buttons, check box etc., the letters become all &#9633;&#9633;&#9633;(empty squares) . Am using lookup tables pretty extensively in my project and interested in "nested" functionality so that my lookup tables/corresponding fields are smaller/more manageable in the layout section. I will try to use a car database analogy to represent what I would like. Consider the car dealer/seller who has a field in his master database for a car (e.g. to be bought/trader).   94. I've searched the forums and couldn't find this addressed... It seems that I've been able to get sliding up to work correctly for everything except text objects (field labels). As long as the text objects are on one page (don't cross a page break), they will slide up correctly. As soon as they are moved below the first page break, they just disappear in Preview / Print. The other objects (fields, rectangles, lines, etc.) slide up fine, but the text objects are gone. I've attached a simple file to show this working.     Hi! Two questions: In FM6 I used to create a template file with graphics and standard fields like creation date, serial number etc. In FM7, multiple tables in one file seems like a good idea. But now I have to create standard field by hand for every table. Is there a better way to make a template? Tabs for layout navigation is nice. But I don't want user to end up in that ugly "No access" screen. What is the best approach? Thankful for insights!

    I have noticed that as you scroll down the portal on a record, and you reach the bottom, it does a kind of bounce, then starts to screw up the look of the records being displayed. The actual records are ok, just viewing them only. Am I the only one seeing this problem? I also tried to update the V2 update, but it won't work without the CD... and seeing that I bought the program from a download, I don't know what to do... maybe the problem is fixed with the update... any ideas or comments?

    Can anyone point me towards a summary of FM7's rules for maintaining the "found set" of records? It seems that if I create two entries in the relationship panel that point to the same table, each can have it's own found set. I rely on this to allow me to work on a different set of records in a script without changing the found set as seen by the user.* But then I discovered that if I open a new window using the same layout (and hence the same entry in the relationships), each can have its own found set.     I'm just learning Filmaker & have a question. I have a 2 page invoice I've created & I want to add a 3rd page. The 3rd page is "Terms & Conditions" (legal stuff) but want to have the ability to choose whether I attach this page to each record. In my mind ...
