Is is possible to close just a single database that is being served using FM Server 5.5 using a shell script? We've managed to use shell scripts to close and stop the whole FileMaker Server 5.5 but I wanted to know if there was a way just to close a particular database and not the whole server? Thanks.

I manages a FileMaker Server 3.0 on a windows 2000 server. I also have FileMaker Pro 3.0 installed on the same server, just in case I need to perform file's inconsistent check or recover files. Sometimes the FileMaker Pro 3.0 runs in the back and seems sharing the files with FileMaker Server. It brings up the CPU usages to 70-80%. It really slows down the application. I'm hosting 20 dynamic websites width about 20.000 pageviews a day. Since my old Windows Server was to slow I installed a brand new XSERVE width FM7SA. I had to change some parameters, but everything works just fine. I use FX.PHP and PHP5 for my websites. Except: Sometimes the link between the datasource and Apache breaks. This without any reason. Apache & Filemaker Server don't stop working, it's just the dynamic generated part of my websites that stops. The only option I have is to completely reboot the server. Very nasty, because now I have to check the site every minute. I just don't trust the system anymore. And every night I do a complete reboot, to be sure…

Hello! This is silly - probably pilot error. Could not get FMPro 7 Server installation to work - first because Firewall was turned on. Now it's off and I can access databases from other computers. Great. next step is/was to get Web Access going. Installed WebPublishing, and the config web site can communicate with the Server. Or so it says. Problem is, in the FMP 7 Server Admin Program / Clients / Filemaker WebPublishing engines, when I add the same identifyer and Passcode as for the WebConfig, I get no IP for the Web Admin Console. I have a FM7 file that I have successfully published using FMSA 7.03 on a Mac running OS X.3.8. I need to change things in the file, but when I log in remotely, it is not accepting the original user/pw I set up (before webpublishing), and opens with the guest settings/permissions when opened locally. The Os X file privileges are Owner = fmserver (R/W), Group = fmsadmin (R/W). How am I supposed to edit the file, and how do I get around the automatic local guest login, since right now, the file can't be changed?

Hi, Small network (4 Mac OS X + 1 PC Win XP) Files served through FileMaker server 7 (latest update) on Mac OS X 10.3.8, Permissions are correct. On client when chosing Open remote in the left pane I see the server's name and IP adress. No files appear in the right pane when I click on this server. As a test I served some files with a standard FileMaker 7 on a different computer and they show up fine on the other machines. Any ideas. TIA, Luc

Hello, Filemaker 3.0 Server on a MAC G4 suddenly refuses to sort. I have 18 thousand records that uses about 37 mgs. Whenever I try to sort, Filemaker just closes incredibly quickly. Any thoughts? I'm using both Custom and Instant Web Publishing with FM Server 7 Advanced on Panther. I have IWP set up to require a user name and password to access the database. My question: when I submit a user name and password via my browser, are those items encrypted during transmission to the Web server (Apache), or are they sent as clear text? Thanks.

We currently have a setup of our web publishing installed on one server and the Apache Web Service installed on another server. Is there a way in the web publishing of FileMaker Server Advanced to restrict access to the Apache Web server's IP Address? Or is it a setup in the server operating system. We are currently running OS X Server on both servers. Another question is, how can i prevent someone from making the request of /fmi/xml/fmresultset.xml?-dbnames which list out the names of the databases that are being shared on the web. Thanks.

I installed FileMaker Server 7 Advanced on Mac OS 10.3 and now I am trying to install Web Publishing Engine on a separate computer (Mac OS 10.3.7 Server). I followed all the instructions and installation was successful. However, when I am trying to configure it via http://server/fmi/config it tells me that apache cannot find this file. I realize that the problem is that I have 3 virtual hosts configured on that computer and just http://server does not work. Does anybody know where I can specify maybe a port number or folder location to access Web Publishing? Thank you very much! Jul

Now don't you all laugh ... but this just tickled me pink today ... I received a frantic call this morning that our server was down (we aren't using Server yet). I rushed to the office in terror but, as I walked in, everyone was grinning and working in FileMaker anyway!!: Oh wonder upon wonder ... FileMaker didn't need Server to work just fine - because it is its own server, right? Oh sweeeeeeeet .... Everyone was so excited that they weren't affected at all and business wasn't disrupted!!! Hello. Installed FMSA 7.1 and having problems with locating the Web Publishing Console. My solutions host fine for client boxes that have FM Pro (via Host)but I cannot fine anywhere how to get client boxes to access FM solutions on the server via Web Browser. Apache is running, but when client browser goes to server ip, only default apache index files show up. Additionally, I am trying to upgrade the Web Publisher to v3 but installer won't proceed because it says "cannot proceed web publishing service is running". I don't see anywhere in the server panel of osx that this service is there or even running. Any help or guidance wound be greatly appreciated.

Hello all, I'm creating a new database to publish on line. As I already publish my web site with my FMSA, I'm using a FMSA 'trial' version (max 3 FMPro client and max 3 Web sessions). the 'funniest' thing I'm experiencing today is that, using the value of the field to get the URI of an image (the URi is created BY filemaker), I get an HTTP: 404 error (as Tomcat says). someone can tell me if this is a bug or the 'trial limitation'??? We're running server 5.5 off of an old mac (OS 9) and using FMP6. Unfortunately, we've outgrown our old solution and are looking into upgrading to FM7. Well, I have used FMP6 for two years now and must admit, its awesome! We have FMP6 Unlimited that works great! Now we have FMP7 Advanced server and I cannot get the .xsl files to work! I used the handy little CDML/XML converter and still get errors. Under Security I have Client Authentication set to FileMaker and External Server accounts. In the old version of FMS 7 there was an option for local or domain authentication, it's gone. I want local authentication, as this server is also our email/file server and has all the users we need that need access to the database. This server cannot be an LDAP/AD server because it's in a department network, and the admins don't want us messing up their network. We have a FM7 database being hosted with FM7 server advanced. In the last couple of weeks we started having problems with new tables and fields. New fields we create won't index. Finds fail and relationships based on these fields fail. At first I thought we had corruption problems. I took backup files that were created after out problems started and loaded them on an OS X server using FM 7 Server Advanced and the files worked perfectly. Our next step is to remove the FM7 installation and reinstall. Has anyone heard of this kind of problem? Could the network and firewall be part of the problem?

Hi All, My company is soon to upgrade all the Filemaker systems we have to version 7 in one hit. This is about 400 seperate multi-file "systems" and they plan to consolidate them onto much fewer servers. My question is: is it possible to host more than one system on a server, and have multiple logins at the server level for administration? In other words, can the individual system administrators be given access to the server to configure for their own system, but not have priviledges for any of the other systems? I know this can't be done with version 6, but I haven't had access to version 7. Thanks, Sean.

You can connect to a FileMaker server behind a NAT box or firewall using built in SSH features of Mac OS X. This is handy if you run a NAT box or firewall, and have more than one FM Server to connect to. Note: this procedure gives out your admin password on the server to the client, so use only with a trusted user. I use it for my personal development needs only. It also exposes SSH to the outside world, so make sure you are using strong passwords and have all of the latest system updates. Steps: 1. This database basically counts the number of people attending each career exploration session (there are many all running at the same time) and generates students' personalised timetables. We hosted FMP5 file on the server, as per my understanding, those database has been opened by FMP5 server otherwise user cannot see those files on their workstation. Whenever user open a hosted file, on the server event log, it said xxxx.fp5 was opened by username. Does it normal? Or I mis-config the FMP5 server and make this thing happen?

So I am finally ready to take the plunge to move to FMP7. However we are not yet ready to give up FMP6. How can I serve both 6 and 7 efficiantly together? Our setup is one server, 4 client machines. Connected with a router, Port forwarding is turned on, on the router so we have WAN access to the databases (using FMP, not IWP). So far I have learned that I can't serve 6 and 7 on the same server. So I guess I will get another server for FMP7. But does anyone know how to set up the router so I can connect to both FMP6 and FMP7 files remotely (using FMP6 and FMP7 respectively)? I remember reading a few weeks ago that while Server 7 uses SSL encryption between server and client (using "open remote"), the login/pass for the database is not submitted with SSL. The SSL is only applied to the data after login. This doesn't make any sense to me, but I remember reading some posts with some very upset users who discovered the bug. I have a Windows 2K3 server and Filemaker 7 Server Advance with Web publishing enabled and working correctly, and all of a sudden a connecting web client machine gets an "Unknown Error 802" and can't connect. The authentication to the IIS server is anonymous(without Windows Authentication checked). When I restart the Filemaker server service everything is fine again, for a while. Also, the normal Filemaker Pro 7 clients can still connect without a problem. Help!!!

I have some served files that have date fields with today's date as a popup. I know the server needs to do something each night to make the correct date popup each day. hello Using FMPro7 server advanced on windows server 2003. When we first installed server advanced I was able to use the Filemaker Server Admin. Then after about a month I started getting the message: "Login Failed". The thing is I am never asked for a password. We did make some changes (we added the external authentication method) but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. What I don't get is the fact it will not prompt me for a password. Hi- Our company has both FM 5 and FM 7 Servers. Is it possible to access FM 5 databases with FM 7 Pro client? I just upgraded my client to 7 and I can't seem to access any of the FM 5 servers. It looks like the method in which you connect to servers has changed since 5.5 Pro so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi All, I'm using the FMServer Config 5.5 on an Xserve running Mac Server 10.2.8. I have two schedules set up to back up all databases to an attached RAID. One runs weekly and the other nightly. The Schedules window says that they are running when they should, but if I look at the file dates, they're from more than 3 weeks ago. I've tried altering the script to save to the Xserve's harddrive, but I get the same results. Has anyone seen this behavior? Thanks in advance, Andy Mowrey

HI y'all Solved the username password...if you had never used user name in your file leave it blank, then log in with your password- it will work. Sever has OS X 10.3.7 FMP sever 7.0v2 and also FMP 7 is loaded on a iMac. I am puzzled. I converted all the files from FMP5 to FMP7 by opening and saving them in FMP 7. Made sure the files network sharing -on, specify user by Privilege set -on Moved the files on the FMP server7 as directed. I can't see the files at all from other locations. Even through the FMP 7 installed on the server. I did notice the file status lable all the files as "closed". Tried to "open" them under action..but they will open and close …

Hello All.. Running in to a small problem, and was wondering if anyone has seen it, or even better overcame it. Start up FM Server Admin... Left Click FM Server=>Connect to Filemaker Server=> Choose (localhost) 127.0.0.1 =>Click Connect Then...... Nothing Server and the sample file are all on the local machine.. But I can not connect, Server opens the sample file, because I can go back to my client end and open it, but there is not a list of files etc... Any Ideas?

Hi, I recently setup Filemaker Server 7 Pro, and for some reason once in a while when a lot of people try to connect to the filemaker server it wont' work. I thought 250 people could connect simaultanesously? The maximum I can get is 7, and I set in the server to allow up to 100 connections. Is there another setting that I am forgetting? Thanks.

Hey there, We have just installed Server 7 on a local PC and serve a db to three clients (PC and OSX). We are using a wireless apple network. The server seems to shut down regularly (every three hours or so) after sending a notificaiton to all clients saying "closing all files". Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch. Stephan

We have a database with 2 tables in it and over the weekend one of the tables lost all data in all fields in all records. The records themselves are still there, they are just empty. The client is running FMServer 7.0v2 on a G5 machine and FMP 7.0v3 on a mix of OS 10.2.8 and Windows XP machines. Restarting the server didn't do anything. No other databases appear to be affected and the server did not crash. The data was there on Friday afternoon and gone on Monday morning. I have been serving a large number of files from a RH7.2 box without problem. However, two weeks ago my main appn. db file has started taking 30 seconds to open for my clients (all Win2000/XP). It has been culled of images and reduced in size (via an export/import clone) from 400Meg to 300Meg and I am still getting the same poor response. The file has a lot of relationships but no calc/scripts invoked upon opening. All other files on the server (bigger ones too) open in a trice. Hi, The databases are under the Filemaker Server 7. I am trying to export the data to the file and send it as attachment to the Send Mail script. But when I use the relative path for Export and Send Mail script, the file is not going to be attached to the email. Macintosh and PC users are accessing the databases. Is there a way to send the mail with attachment correctly without adding each user's specific directory to the path ? Thanks.

I don't know how many people run into this - but when transfering files the permissions often get changed such that server cannot open a file. My most recent circumstance of this involves server 5.5 on the latest X-serve using ssh to remotely access the machine. I needed to move a file to my local drive to make some password changes. I moved it back by uploading it to the web, ssh'ing into the server, using ftp to download it to the proper directory. Server couldn't open it because the owner had been changed to the ssh account login (not the same as the profile the sever had booted on). I've just installed and uninstalled server 7 and then server 7 advanced and reinstalled 3 times and everything seems okay until I try to configure the web publishing engine and I get the message that the engine is not responding. OK, I have an Imac with OSX 20.3 running. I installed Filemaker Pro, then Filemaker server, then Filemaker advanced server. I converted all of my old databases to the .fp7 format and almost everything works. My problem is the CDML web pages that were running on FM Unlimited and worked really well. So I use the nifty CDML/XML converter with ran without any problems. Then I took the .xls documents and put them in the apache web server directory. I bring up the URL and get the apache page, so I am confident that end of things works. I'm working on a project using fx.php w/ 7 advanced. Everything works fine when all the fields on the layout are from the table the layout based on. I can also use fx.php to pull value out the layout with related fields. However, when I tried to add or modify the value of the related field, I'll get error code 101, which according to FMP doc means record is missing, even though I can retrive the data for that record in fx.php. Greetings, I'm having a problem where records seem to be being deleted for no reason. Our customers records are kept in a main file - "customers". When a user wants to view the customer's record, a single record is imported into a separate file called customer inquiry. Transactions for the customer are imported from our transactions file into a clone used only for inquiry and some reports. These transaction records are displayed in a portal in the customer inquiry file. Lately, and only on occasion, when a user is viewing customer information in the inquiry file, the record disappears - the layout remains, but there is no data. The users are not navigating…

I have a Win2003 running FMServer 7 Advanced... When Win clients login via a browser (IE6.x) then all is fine. But when users running OS X (IE 5.2) on iBooks attempt to login the browser displays and additional field, the field "domain" is listed??? And they can not login, what goes there? Thanks -Maurice

I'm running Windows 2003, FMPro Server 7, Sequelink Client 5.4, MDAC 2.8. I've setup a database for ODBC publishing by using the ODBC Data Source Administrator. Filled in the server host = localhost, server port = 2399. When I do a "Test Connect" I get the following Sequelink Error 2306. "[DataDirect][ODBC Sequelink driver][sequelink Client]TCP/IP error, connection refused". Has anyone else seen this error? Thanks

Hi everyone, I'm about to shoot myself just trying to install FileMaker Server 7 Advanced. Here's my setup: Xserve running OS X Server 10.3.5, fully updated. 2GHz G5, 2GB RAM. Hi, This is how the field is defined: SerialField Text Auto-enter Serial, Serial number On creation, next value TRCV0500 increment by 1, Unique value If in one machine the user creates a new record, then first gets TRCV0500, afterwards TRCV0501, etc. Then, in another machine, the user creates a new record, and gets the message ""SerialField" is defined to contail unique values only. Allow this duplicate value?" (assigns again TRCV0500 instead of TRCV0503) What am I missing here??? Thanks in advance

Lately some issues have come up on the ebase phone support and users email lists around a long term installations which now have unexplained crashes. In one I dealt with, the problem seemed related to MFC42.dll This is a standard MS dll (used by most programs written in C using MS C compiler) and no version of it on the machine would even let me even view the version info. My company is currently using FM6 and is thinking about upgrading to FM7 Server. I'm currently reading a lot of documentation on the subject because I'll be responsible for part of the migration, and for the serving part of the DB. All the documentation I've read so far mentions that Custom Web Publishing supports both Apache and IIS, but it only mentions Apache on Mac OSX and never on Windows. It's not that I don't trust Microsoft or anything when it comes to webservers, but I have a clear preference for Apache. Has anyone tried serving the DB with Apache on Windows, or can it be done at all? Thanks.

Hi all, I have a problem where any user that opens hosted files appears in the client section of the filemaker server admin tool, twice. The first file that they open appears fisrt, then the rest of the files they have opened appear seperately. This happens regardless of which database is opened first. I'm having a weird problem. I'm having issues with our server crashing. For some reason, 2 or more times a week, I come in to the office and the filemaker server is not responding. The actual network server works fine, and the fm server appears to be working correctly, but if I run the launcher file to access the files in the fm server, the computer is not able to reach them, and even when I manually go to the "open remote" feature, the server does not show. The only way to access the files is to manually stop the server and re start it again. The event log does not show anything unusual. Anyone have any idea of what could be wrong?

Hi Guys I have quite a few scripts that rely on storing temp data in global fields (don't we all). Now this all works fine in a single user environment, but what happens when i deploy this using Filemaker Server with multiple users? I'm thinking that my scripts will go all screwy because the global data of one person will be overwritten by that of another. One example is I have a global field that tracks where the user has been in order to provide a 'back' button, i can't see this working in a multi user environment. So I guess unless Filemaker Server takes care of this sortof thing by itself, I need to know how to create a user specific global field, just like…

Running IIS 5.1 on XP SP2. I've re-installed this thing at least 9 times so far. I notice there's some other threads about this issue, and I've read them all and followed the suggestions mentioned, but to no avail. I install 7 advanced. Hi, I'm hoping someone can lead me in the right direction to a solution. I've got a FM server with remote cllients (10 or so) all over the country and these people will be toting PowerBooks with no access to a network, creating records (up to a few hundred fields) which will then be uploaded to the server when they can gain access to a network. Is there any store and post later solution out there? I would think this would be a valuable thing but I can't find any information about it

I need help getting some databases that are on my FMServer to be available to my FMClients. Here is the scenerio: I placed two new databases in the Data directory of FMServer 7. I set the permissions as follows for the two files: owner: fmserver Group:fmsadmin Both owner and group have read/write access to the files. I then went to the Server admin and opend the databases - which in turn, changed the files status to "Normal". In FM 6 if you wanted to make an alias to a database on a server, you actually had to create a new database that ran a script that opened the hosted file and then closed itself. Do you still have to do this in FM 7? Is there a way to alias a hosted DB without creating an additional db?

I'll start by saying I'm probably not the one that should be setting up this machine, however, I am. Drat. Setup OS X, one machine, FMPS and advanced. Every Mac I've went to I can enter the IP address and see the default Apache screen (every one but mine). I can't see it on any PC, get an error, same as on my Mac. No IP address conflicts exist. Not sure where to start looking. Just as a note I can Timbuktu to another machine from mine and Timbuktu from that machine and into the server fine, I can't Timbuktu directly into the server from mine. No Timbuktu license conflicts. Any direction or suggestions would be appreciated.

This may be a ridiculous question, but I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere- my office may want to start running Server rather than continuing with FMP's file sharing capability. All of the computers are running either FMP 5.5 or 6. Can we install Server 7 and have it run these older files, or do we have to get Server 5.5? I'd like to get something that we can grow into if possible, without having to upgrade the entire office at once. Thanks!

WHICH ERROR DID I MAKE AND MAKING? 1. installed IIS 6 3. INSTALLED Server 7 & Server 7 Adv. 4. RESTARTED 5. Configured Server 7 & ENABLE Web Publishing Engine Client Services Identifier and Passcode 6. Login to Web Pub. Admin console (http://localhost/fmi/config) 7. Entered INDENTIFIER and PASSCODE into username and password fields. BUT... I STILL GET "USERNAME & PASSWORD INVALID". If I Cancel Web Publishing configuration I get "UNEXPECTED ERROR." Hello all. I've done this before for a different group and password called Tech about three years ago and it worked. I've been asked to create a password for the network group to "just read" our database. I followed took the server offline, stopped Filemaker services, opened the file, it gave me my options to create Access Privliges. I created the password first (netgroup), then the group (Netgroup), I set up the access for all the fields to read. I can use the password on the server, but when I try it from fom another computer I get the password incorrect. Please, what am I missing. THANKS!!!!

Wrote some scripts in Applescript to move some import files and another script startup a fp7 file which had an embedded FMP script to do some data imports. Everything worked well for 3-4 days and then poof - nothing. The scripts won't come alive anymore through the FMP Server Scheduler. It may have something to do with permissions changing - but I DID NOT modify anything. The only way the scripts will run - is if I launch them myself. This is a crappy waste of my time - I followed FMP instructions on how to set privilieges for the script folder and the scripts still are quiet. Anybody run into this before?

Hi, I got some Problems getting FileMakerServer Advanced (v.7.03) with WinXP Pro SP2/IIS 5.1 running: While trying to connect to the configuration console of the server via browser by the URL "http://myserveraddress/fmi/config" I won't get a configuration page as exspected but a file named "config" for download. Of course this seems not be useful anyway... I've tried to reinstall all server stuff, tried different configurations (e.g. different system accounts for anonymous auth.) and removed antivirus and firewall stuff but all these things bring no solution. I have filemaker Server running on a dedicated machine with filesharing OFF. I have Server Admin running remotely on a machine with filesharing ON. Right now I am using a USB pin drive to download files into server. I stuff the pin drive directly into the computer that holds server. The path I use at present is: Open HD > Open Library> Open Filemaker Server 7 >Open Data > Open Databases. I'm not entirely sure how Filemaker Admin communicates remotely with Filemaker Server. My database pivots around a networked solution. I so far have four computers linked through the network. Computer 1 is a dedicated G5 Server running filemaker Server with filesharing turned OFF. Computer 2 is also a dedicated G5 Imac Server with filesharing turned ON. This computer, so far, only holds PDF files that are referenced via container fields in the client stations. I have a customer who is migrating from a linux based FM Server 5.5 to Windows. Are the database files on the server compatible? Can I just move the .fp5 files from the linux box to the windows? (Yes, I've got the Server service installed on the win boxen) I saw a post about a mac->win migration and that said to watch for relationships since the machine name and IP will be changing, true here to, correct? Also, is it normal for the second server, running the same license as the linux server to not start until I stop the service on the linux box? Err Code 50, I believe? Thanks Jeff

Hi All, Have this curious problem. I've set FMServer Task Scheduler to backup automatically to a hard drive called Z:. It always fails, and the Event Viewer shows that the drive cannot be found. The server is W2k, FMServer 5.5. The mapped drive is shared by WinXP Pro. I've tried setting the backup to the local C: drive and it works fine. I've also tried changing the Mapped drive to another letter but still doesn't work. The Mapped Drive appears fine in My Computer and I can copy and move files in and out. I want to publish databases on the web and I'm using an OS X server 10.3. I have installed the FMS+A on a OS X client and easily set that up, but when using the X server, I need to point to an index.htm file or such, as a starting point to connect to the web engine. Anyone know if there's wany major drawbacks to running Fm Server 5.5 and FM Server 7.0 on the same machine? I'm doing an upgrade to 7 and it needs to be done in pieces (lots of unrelated databases). I'm using the Filemaker server admin tool and when I click on clients I can only see the computer names that are connected to a database file. Is there any way I can see which filemaker user account is logged onto the server. I created a bunch of accounts in filemaker for the specific database file, anyway to have those user account names show instead of the computer name. Thanks.
