I've never used quickbooks and don't want to because I'm running a Mac and heard Quickbooks for Mac is not worth it. I just need bookkeeping for a Lawn & Landscape business with employees. Hello, I head the technology department at a small financial management firm. We integrate a calendar, appointment log, and contact list in FMP to maintain all our records. There is an issue: when one workstation is on a day-view on the calendar page, other workstations will not be able to access that same calendar page. Also, the function that dictates calculating our clients' birthdays seems to be correct, but my FMP's master clock doesn't seem to change and the function is based off the FMP clock. I would like to hire a FMP expert to come to our office in San Luis Obispo, CA to help us solve these issues. Please indicate a price quote and other information l…

I need help. I am setting up an archive of native american artifacts, photos, songs, etc. We chose Filemaker because we can run it on both Mac and PC. When I try to insert a sound file into the container field with quicktime the PC locks up. works great on the Mac. When I insert a PDF on the PC it opens and runs great on the PC but won't open on the Mac. The Photos work great on both formats. Any suggestons or help are greatly appreciated.

Hi folks, I'm getting ready to plunge into rewriting our current rolodex/address book database, but I thought I'd take the time to inquire whether there is an existing solution that would meet my needs. I've looked at the free FM Business Tracker solution, and would like something similar without the invoicing and product pieces. Just need a system for companies, contacts, locations that I can then relate to from my separate billing and proposal databases. Any miracles out there, or should I get to writing my own? : ~Courtney

I'm looking to temporarily hire someone to update a Filemaker 6 system to Filemaker 8.5. The system is fairly large and has around 75 different database files. I want to have someone convert, test and fix anything that breaks from the conversion. At this point I'm not looking to rebuild the system in 8, just update it. From my experience I would expect it to take 2 to 3 weeks of solid work to complete this upgrade. I would like the person doing this update to be here in the office in Niles so we can quickly respond to questions as they arise. We will provide the computer to work on, you've just gotta come in and knock it out. We can pay you weekly until the project is do…

Hi there. A couple of years ago we were gainfully employed as fun loving Filemaker developers. Our company took a change in direction and we ended up working on PHP web apps and other less friendly environments instead. At the time we were putting the finishing touches on a rather cool golf related software product, developed entirely in Filemaker 6/7. It was an in-house project, and we put over 2000 hours into its development, getting it to about 90% completion. The software was designed to track a golfers personal lifetime history of golf and was intended to make a useful and marketable consumer golf software product. It incorporated many inno…

This is probably very simple but I cannot figure out how to do it. I want to be able show the count of certain fields who fall into different categories according to a value list. It is basically where a child's reading/writing/etc grade is counted. So there were 5 children in basic, 7 children in sound, 14 children in high, 7 children in outstanding etc etc. This is all displayed according to a found set and is calculated by a script. I just dont know how to get the count to work. I hope I am making sense. Many thanx in advance.

I am looking for a simple database for a small publishing company that has 3 parts--contacts, projects, and ad contracts. Nothing fancy, tweaking the existing FileMaker Business Productivity kit would probably work. Please contact me if interested.

I'd like to have something in my file that will provide "How-Tos" and anticipate user questions/problems/etc. I've seen the one in Business Tracker. TIA LM

We just upgraded from FMS7A to FMS8A and during the process we broke something and now our website links via PHP are not working. The person that originally configured this for us is no longer with the company so we need some help. We are looking for a Mac person that is familiar with PHP and Apache to help fix what we have broken. We need to get our website linked back up with our Filemaker Server within the next 48 hours. After this project we need someone to help rewrite the PHP submissions from our website so they work with the new multi-table FileMaker files. Our current FM file are very old and everything is in separate files. We are located in the U…

I have a web site that I have developed in IWP. The backend Filemaker component needs almost no modification. The good news is that the work flow and aesthetics of the IWP site is almost exactly how I want the site to function. The bad news is that IWP obviously isn't up to the task for public deployment. I was ready to (and still might) abandon FM as my backend and have the site rebuilt using mysql and php. However, it seemed a shame since most of my logic, security, and some scripts are already built within Filemaker. Therefore, I thought I'd post this to the forum and see if there are any developers interested in bidding on this conversion project. you can se…

I have created a database from our ancient FM 3 database. I needed to add more fields so a search could be more refined and more details could be added. I have a problem though. I have business contacts, personal contacts and staff. Sometimes business contacts have home addresses; and personal contacts, as well as staff, have home addresses. I have created a few tabs - for business contact info, contact details (as in what kind of business they are, etc.) but I'm not sure how to distinguish between a business contact's home address and a personal contact's home address - sometimes these would be the same info, but not always. I would like to keep all home add…

I have a database that lists Cruise Lines as a drop down value list. When I select a particular cruise line, all the ships for that cruise line appear in a field for ship names. When I select the ship name from the value list, it appears as the input in that field. Now, the problem. The ship name for all the records in the database disappear and becomes blank sometime further down the road. I cannot find the trigger that causes the information to disappear. Does anyone have any idea where I can look to correct this problem? Thank you in advance.

When I open our FileMaker Database Map it asks for a password, which I know and enter, but when I actually open up one database in particular it will not give me access to the Layout mode. I do have access to the Layout mode in all of our other databases. For some reason this one in particular will not allow me to make changes to the layouts. Any ideas as to how I can be able to get access to the layouts in this particular database?

The staff member in our office who set up the FM databases has passed away. She set up these databases with some sort of password protection that does not allow us to have access to the Layout Mode. We are unaware of any kind of password that allows us to override this. Is there anything that we can do to access the Layout Mode so that we may make some changes to documents in our database??

Hello all, We have converted our FM6 files to FM 8, but most of the converted files have one table each. I'm looking for a bid on the work needed to move all the tables and the relationships from each of the files into one or two files. T We have about 58 files, each with an average of 9 relationships. There is no development needed nor do you need to change, add or delete fields. Please let me know how long it will take you and how much it will cost. Please email me your bid to [email protected]. Hi there, I've been assigned the task of attempting to bring my current recruitment management solution to a more automated state of being. Currently, job applicants email their applications in to an email address, and several of our administrative support staff create applicant records. As reference letters come in, they are data entered to the appropriate applicant records. My company is quite locked down.. so doing anything that would be "out there" on the web is not an option for this year.. though it could be for next year. For now, if possible over the next two or three months.. I'd love to devise a way to automate, or more realistically, spee…

Hi guys, I am having the same problem. I would like to share a filemaker pro 7 database. I have tried the suggestions above. I guess I need to access the database from a client through the "Open Remote" dialog box in the "File" menu. All I get is the name of the "Host" computer with its IP address, when clicked nothing shows up. Any ideas? Fiachra. P.S. Sorry about the double post. I have the database file in the "Public" folder.

I would like Filemaker to provide me a list of each change made to the value in any field, with a time/date stamp, and include the user that made the change. Currently, we don't even have users login; they open a file with a password that allows them permission to browse, create and edit a record. I've tried the "Limited" Edit permissions before, but it just disallowed all edit attempts. Is there a plug-in available, or is this part of Server or Advanced Server? We are about to buy FMP ver8, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

I am a one-person office of the A.B. Happy Chandler Foundation. It is a local, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping motivated high school students through college scholarships. However, recently my budget has been low, and even finding the money for scholarships has been tough. I have been using FileMaker 6 for several years, and a volunteer has come to help update my database. However, my version of FileMaker is only for a single user. I was wondering if anyone might have an extra FileMaker 6 installation code to share. Any generous donation of a single user license would be greatly appreciated!

Dear Forum Right now I´m looking for a solution that can handle the purchase of products in a regular store (for example seven eleven or gas station stores), this kind of stores have every kind of products, mainly eating products, so I need a solution that could give me the ticket sale of each purchase (I gonna give the right format), save in the database this purchase, taking in mind that we have an inventory that automaticaly discount all the products that are sold from the main inventory and finally give a report of the total sales by day, by week or by month. I´m going to incorporate a termal printer for the tickets and a money store box that op…

Greetings all! I just found FileMaker after growing weary of banging my head against the wall with Access and thought I'd see if there was a premade solution before I start building my own database. I've played with the Business Productivity Package and can see how I can make it work but wanted some advice first. I work for a small TV and Appliance store and am looking to upgrade our software from a flat file to a database structure. The most important aspect of our business is serialized tracking of inventory. For example, we can have 10 refrigerators in house that are the same model number with 10 different serial numbers. My thought is to just look the model …

Hello, this is my first post so don't be surprised if i don't know the format and the usual procedure followed on this forum, but i hope you can help me anyway, thanx in advance : I'm currently working on a database solution for a small business, creating a complete registry of all their employees, with contract details, and an added function: the app calculates the monthly paycheck for each employee based on the contract type and days worked. The problem I've encountered is relatively simple, but this is my first contact with filemaker so I've had some problems with the scripting involved, I'll explain: To calculate paychecks the app uses assigned variables for ea…
