Hi, We are developing a system using FM to record quality management systems for our business. We have created unique batch numbers, within which each item has its own number code. The batch id has 2 fields which identify the lowest and highest individual item number respectively. On another layout, we use the item number to assess characteristics of that item, but we want to automate the other fields which relate to the parent batch. For example. Batch 001 has item codes 1000 to 2000. The batch was created on 11/04/04 and originally came from site A. This is in Layout called Intake QC. Thanks for any help! I've created a sales tracking tool for auctions and am looking to output a report for my clients. What I'm having trouble with is creating a script to find all items with an end date (a calculated field) of Today or later. Then I can show the clients what auctions are still live and some details to go along with them. I need to automate a search. I have a Donations layout with donation date, donorName, donorID, amount given, etc... I need a search that will show all records based on amount given every year for last 3 years from user inputted amount. So, the query would automatically check current date and then look back 3 years, and display everyone who has given say between $100 and $500 every year since 3 years ago. So all the user would input would be the $ parameters of the search, like amount > $500 and < $1000. I hope this makes since. I would greatly appreciate any help in this task. I am running a G4 OS9.1 and using Filemaker Pro 6. A client supplied me with a file that, when opened, gives me a log-in screen to a remote host over the internet. The problem is that I can access the host from 4 other Macs on the same network, all with the same builds. I have reinstalled FMP, then I reinstalled the OS with no luck. I have checked to make sure that TCP/IP is selected and that it loads successfully. All the Macs can get to the internet(meaning they can surf the web). I do not receive an error when it fails to log in, it just brings me back to the log in screen. As far as I can tell the Macs are running with the same extensions and programs. Which remind…

Hi - I'm sure there's a simple answer to this but for the life of me I can't figure out this program. I'm new to databases generally and fm i particular. I'm trying to export an fm text file. I need to add a tag to the beginning of each entry in each field before exporting so that I can upload to another program. So, for example, I would like to add "tag1 " (with a space) to the beginning of every entry in Field 1, then add "tag2 " to every entry in Field 2. How do I do this -- using monosyllables if poss?! I have a complicated database to track my photos, and I have been putting off upgrading it until I could get my hands on FMP7. Having just spent the last week working on a new version of the database, I am seriously considering putting my new copy of FMP7 on the shelf and continuing using FMP6. I love the new features of FMP7--although the scripting environment is so mouse heavy that I am getting stress pains in my right hand. And my solution seems to be coming together quickly. Hello All: I was wondering if one of you FM genius' out there could answer a question for me. I travel frequently and I read a lot of travel magazines. I was wondering if there is a solution or template out there that would let me keep track of hotels, restaurants, bars whatever that I read about or visit. For instance, let's say I read an article on the best bars in Chicago. Any insight on the fastest way to copy (some of) the fields from one table to another? I have the need to create a table with the same data as another table's found set, within the same file. You might think that the "import" function would work, but it doesn't seem to support the idea of importing from the same file. Of course, I can just write loops in a script, but ugh, that's slow. I saw an online ad in another forum for some software that would take filemaker TO access, and some that would take access to filemaker for windows, but how about the mac version, is there any way to import structures and relationships from an existing access database into version 7 for mac? or would i need to analyse and reconstruct every relationship manually, if there is even one to one configuration compatibility? Something is wrong with the merge field operation in my application. I don't have a clue as to why they don't work. I have relationships set up correctly.... other basic fields using these relationships work...it is only the merge field operation that does not work. This is a new occurance. existing merge fields that used to work ... now do not. in browse they return a line that looks like the merge field in the format mode. except the time is added in the line. I may be brain-dead, and I hope I am, but there seems to be a major, major hole in FM7 security. I have database.fp7, with the non-full-access account user_1, who has access only to several fields in table_1, as well as execute-only access to several scripts. If I'm the end-user who normally logs in to database.fp7 as user_1, and if I create a new, empty database and add a file reference to database.fp7, I can do the following: 1) add an occurrence of table_1 in the Relationships window of my new database. If the password for user_1 is stored, the occurrence will show up automatically. If not, I can enter it in. And I would know the password because that's …

Hello, I am using FMP to generate an HTML page using data from fields to fill in paramters and image names. Although most browsers are forgiving and do not requite the quotes areound parameters I do like to follow the HTML spec by using them. FMP will not allow nested quotation marks, so my question is: how do I get a calculation to output concatented text and field data with quotes in it (example: <td height="25" align="center" valign="top">). I am at a loss with this one! Please help! I have a solution that has File1 and File2. File1 has a portal in it to create records in File2 via relationship. When I run a script to insert the date into a field in the portal (thus creating a new related record in File2 with an ID number as the matching field), for some reason, my lookups in File2 don't happen. And worst of all, it is intermittent. If it doesn't lookup data the first time, I delete that record from File2 (deleting it from the portal in File1 or directly in File2) then run the same script again, and it's fine - lookups occur in several fields. Hello, A collegue has used FileMaker to create a system of handling client information. Contacts, status, notes, that kind of thing. We would like to use the design and programming in FM that they have already done, but do not want his data. In my initial brief look at FM7, the one glaring thing I have noticed is that text on layouts is horrible. Text is fuzzy and appears out of focus. Trying various options to make it more acceptable, I can find no suitable option that gets the fonts to look like they did in FM6. Am I missing something, or is this design intent. If this is design intent then in my opinion this will probably make FM7 layouts useless for a significant number of people. I have several users with less than perfect eyesight and it will be hard for them to read the new text. Echo

I thought I read that FMP7 was going to provide field formats for such common uses as Phone Numbers, Social Security Numbers, etc.. I've search through my demo version and can't seem to find this. Any ideas? BTW - I love the ability to relate files more than one relationship away, the new live security, the visual realtionship chart and the conditions you can put on realtionships. I use file maker pro on Windows XP. Opening up a web page does work. However, the link does not open in the foreground (e.g like a introduced in Excel) but in the background. Hi guys. I'm trying to find a method of creating a link that takes you to the folder that a file lives in. Essentially a field that becomes a hotlink like on a web page. Clicking on it would take you to the desktop and open the folder for you. I'm sure there's a way to do it but can't dig it up at the moment. thanks -andrew

Help!! I am in the process of converting an Access database to Filemaker. In Access, you can use "Dlookup" to have the contents of a field automatically show up in a form. I know this is similar to the "Look-up" function of Filemaker, however, the lookup I need to occur is based on two matched fields (vs. the one matched field you set up in a relationship). More specifically, in one file I have a list of accounts with balances in each of those accounts by year. In the second file, I need to allocate that balance to different departments for that year. Can somebody help me please, I'm going crazy. I have recently upgraded to V7 and find that a summary field is not giving me the correct result. I am working with two database files and the summary field (from the master file) is returning the value for one record only rather than the group of records. The summary field is placed on a layout in the related file. I did not have this problem in version 5.5 and can't fathem why it would change. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone know what "server capabilities" that Advanced Server 7 will utilize making it more robust than before (utilization of Apache directly, security, etc.)? I am trying to make a script to make a change to a found set of records. I find the customer's job by name, and then I want to change the "Shipped" field from either a blank entry or NO, to "YES". There can be several entries for each customer/job. I get hung up trying to pause the script to find the customer (it keeps wanting to find my last find). I know I then need to do a 'replace', but I again get hung up navigating to the "Shipped" field to make the change, and then how to do it! Any help would be appreciated. S.D. I'm using the Filemaker Framworks Solution template found on Filemakers website. I'm having a bit of a problem understanding one of the buttons in Invoice.fp5. anyone can tell me what is the best way to "refresh" a screen?: I have a layout in which you input values for several fields and at the bottom of it (after gathering the information typed in by the user and the info in other DB) it gives a total. I have scoured the user and support forums for information on this problem and have found nothing, so it's possible that I'm the only one experiencing it. When viewing a layout - any layout - in Preview Mode in FM7, it appears to be perfectly normal when viewed at normal size, i.e., Zoom at 100%. However, if I Zoom In to the layout the image appears to be pixelated as if enlarging a 72dpi raster image. This is not the behavior on FM6 and earlier where the image scales properly. PHOTOS: When I insert photos as a reference to the file on the server computer I can see them there in the container field, but the photos do not show up on the other computers on the network. Am I forgetting to check a box somewhere, or should I just go ahead and put the photos directly into the database? SHOW OMITTED: When I do a "find" and then "omit" certain records from that find, and then "show omitted", I see the records I just ommitted as well as the original records that were passed by in the first find. Hello, I'm trying to create a product catalog for my tea company. The catalog is a vertical list of each product with a name, description and price. Some of the descriptions are very long, some are very short. I've had to make the Body Part in the layout very long as well as the description field, and this is resulting in a lot of dead space. I have a calculation for a user account to only show records that meet a certain condition. Problem is, it shows a record with the message <no access>. I'm looking for a way to suppress any display of a record that does not meet the criteria. Hi, My Tea Company is attempting to create our product catalog using Filemaker. Everything is going well so far, just this one hang up... What we are making is basically a price list consisting of 5 or 6 different tables, each table for a different type of tea (green, white, black, etc). So what we would like is a graphic saying "Green Tea" and then a list of all the green tea records, then a graphic saying "black tea" and all the black tea records and so on. im trying to build a contact management databse that can draw common addresses from a linked file. i want to be able to add diferent address, then use them as a basis for the main database - saving time on multiple entries with th esame address. A friend has several versions of the same FileMaker Pro 6 database. The versions were completed at different times. Much of the information is the same in each version, but some is unique to one file or another. The record layouts are not consistent. The same fields can have different names in different files, and some fields are not found in every file. There are over 1000 records per file. What are some practical, efficient ways to take all the old versions of the database and use them to create one new combined database, which will contain all the data from the many existing files? I am using Filemaker 7. I have a client table that has my client information. I have another table that has many items related to that client. I have a third table that maps a unique client ID with the many unique Item IDs related to that client. What I want to be able to do is while I am inputting the client information, save the unique client ID and then while I am inputting the related items in the other table have that unique item and the client ID item put in my mapping table automatically. Hi I am new to publishing FMP files on the web. Until i can find a good cdml resource i am using the "web companion". Anyway - it does'nt matter which "view" i choose from the pre-established FMP pull down (gray, blue-yellow, lavendar...) when i view my DB through the web browser on a mac or pc, the form elements, specifically the input boxes are partially cut off or missing altogether - especially on the submit a new record page. I'm currently exploring FM7 and must say that I'm *VERY* impressed. I definitely plan on migrating my current project to 7 in the near future. What I'm wondering now is if FM7 will help me with a piece of my current project. I need to create a rather simple schedule database. I don't need group capabilities, nor do I need the ability for one user to schedule another user's appointments. I need a basic time-grid in week view showing that user's appointments. Hello, all. I need to be able to hyperlink non-HTML text from one field to another within a single document, or from one field in one document to field text within another. I have three Mac iMac with OS 9.2 running FM Pro 5. On two of the computers they work fine as far as my problem in the Layout Pop-Menu is concern. However, one of the iMac is not working like the other two. Here is my problem. I have 15 layouts, when I click on the layout menu my option goes to the bottom of the list and I get scroll arrows at the top my pop-up menu. What I would like to happen, since my layout is at the top of the list with a check mark, is for all my layout to show at once without having to scroll up to the top of the list. I'm a novice user trying to develop a distribution database for the free magazine that I’m working for, and I’d appreciate some advice on adding some functions to the database. I'm setting up a FM7 solution to replace an SQL db. Customer street addresses have been entered as: "145 River Road" I'd like to modify this imported data to split it into two fields" Street Num and Street Name eg "145" and "River Road" Naturally there will be a wide variety of prefixes in front of the street name, including street numbers, apartment letters, perhaps no numbers. My setup is as follows: FMP Server v5.5 running on OS X v10.3.3 (G4 tower) FMP Client v6 running on OS X v10.3.3 (2 iBooks and 1 iMac) My problem: When trying to open a file with FMP Client v6 being served by FMP Server v5.5, I get unexpected quits. The crashlog file generated says that a "EXC_BAD_ADDRESS" AND "KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE" has occurred. If I open this same file directly with FMP Client v6, it opens properly. I am running Server 5.5 on Windows 2000 Server. If a user login to check backup schedule from FileMaker server console, he won't be able to see any schedule at all. (But he can create a backup schedule but it will disappear when he logs back in) But i can see all the backup schedule if i log in as administrator. Okay, I'm having some difficulties with some statistical calculations I'm working on in FP5. Anytime I try to do an exponential calculation (field^2, or field*field), any decimals in the existing numbers are removed. I've tried setting the number format to the proper number of decimal places, but I can't seem to find a way to make it work. Actually, I've had it work with ONE field. I was making a field that had a result of another calc field squared. This one seemed to be okay, but I've not been able to get correct results for more complex calculations (e.g. 1/field^2) Is there some setting that I'm missing, or is FP5 just incapable of accurately computing a…

But when I check of "store only a reference to the file" and click ok, I don't get the PDF file icon, but I get a miniature pic. of the first page of the PDF file. Greetings, I developed a large database system (40 databases) for my employer. They are now opening offices in the USA and they want to keep the 2 database systems separate so they asked me to duplicate the solution. Those 2 database systems will be served on the same LAN by 2 different servers. Obviously it is very important that the US and Canadian database systems don't get mixed up. My first though to avoid confusion was to rename the files but then I realized I would have to re-specify the several hundreds relationships not to mention all the Open database script steps and calls to external scripts and such.... hours and hours of work. I would like to display information about a button when the mouse pointer is over the button. For example, say I had a button that was shaped like a right arrow. I would like it if when the pointer was placed over the right arrow, a small text box would appear and read "next record." This is similar to the feature of some applications called "help bubbles." I can't figure this thing out! In file1, I have a text field that has data in it that is a phone number. The data was entered by two different people, so some of the 600 fields have verdana size 12, some are verdana size 10. In file1, why can't I force the formatting to be a specific font size? And, in file2 which is related to file1, when the phone number shows up in a field or a merge field in a layout of file2, the data formatting is variable as seen in file1 where the original data lies. I'm not exactly sure where to post this question so I thought I would start here. Is there a way to increase the font size or magnification of the various dialog boxes? When I go into the define field mode and start to enter a calculation, the screen is so tiny that I have to get real close to the monitor and squint. I have an unconfirmed rumor from a highly placed FSA member that the 50 file limit is gone. This member has stated as having had 105 files open at once time. I am trying to do something with a container field that goes beyond my expertise (meaning it requires AppleScript). I would be grateful for any assistance you experts out there might lend. When I call My Films DB I can no longer see the fields content. I read <unrelated table>. I In the Finder the file is 6 MB so all the data should be still there, but I am not able to see it at all. Opening Database>Fields, all the fields are there: all the text, number and date, although they don't appear in the browse mode, while the calculation fields don't work anymore as the "table" got either corrupted or I don't know what. I can't export anything either as the Export command is not available. I created other tables but they contain no fields. I am lost. How can I get this file to work again? Here are a couple of issues i have with ver.7 list boxes. First Has anyone noticed a subtle (but anoying)change in the way drop down lists work in ver.7 compared to ver.6 and before? When I tab into a firld formated as a drop down list I used to be able to press the "down arrow" and get the first item highlited on the list then I just hit enter and the item was placed inthe field. In ver.7 although nothing appears to be highlited when I tab into the field by preessing the "down arrow" as before I now get the 2nd item highlited. Although not insurrmountable problem it is annoying. What I would really like is to tab into the field and have the first item already …

I'm looking into doing a database that will use Tablet PCs for people to be able to write handwritten notes as well as use popup menus to enter data. Is there a way to have filemaker store these handwritten notes in a current record? I was wondering if anyone has successfully run multiple instances of FMP Pro using Mac Os X (Panther) fast-user switching? I'm imagining a scheme where one user logs in to OS X, launches FMP Pro, then another user switches to their account while leaving the original user logged in, and launches FMP Pro again. Does anyone know if FMP Pro will handle this gracefully? I'm thinking of FMP7 but comments regarding FMP5 and FMP6 are also welcome. I am not sure if I am seeing a bug with the new Replace contents command or if I am just doing something wrong. I am trying to replace a date in a master table with the max of the dates in a related table. Using the replace contents function either from the menu or in a script results in a number being entered into the field, it looks like a Julian date or some other internal representation used by FM7. I'm puzzled. From FMP 7, I explicitly insert a Word document in a container [the document, not a reference], and it opens fine from IWP screen. But if file is pdf, Acrobat Reader launches after I say Open, then says "There was an error opening this document. File does not exist". ANyone know what's going on? I am having a problem at one of my customers. They are set up in a FileMaker Server environment with up to 10 workstations. The problem is that at random times one of the workstations(not the same one everytime) will get a "Sorting" dialog box when they are not on a screen that has a sorted portal and are not running a script that performs a sort. When this random sort dialog appears, it appears to be sorting all the records in one of the files. Also, it basically ties up the other workstations when it does this. Just have to get hsi one out of my system... I love that new ability to set any field to a calc field to format the field. I've got a bunch of users that are used to DOS bases systems where they get to type "T" into date fields to automaticaly insert Todays Dates. They also are in the habit of typeing "T+3" to get the date for three days from today, among some other formulas like this. Now I can use a text field with some fancy schmancy calculations to give them that function. AND.. I get to set the settings to accomidate all those who still hit ENTER or RETURN to move from field to field. (I used to have to do all sorts of fixes to get rid of unnecessary…

I am new to Filemaker and I am trying to customize the "Contacts" template for my medical practice by changing the "Company" field to "Specialty." I did that succesfully by redefining that field's name, however on the tab on the bottom right, "related contacts" there are choices to show contacts related by Name, Company or City (with "radio" buttons).
