  1. Hi, We are developing a system using FM to record quality management systems for our business. We have created unique batch numbers, within which each item has its own number code. The batch id has 2 fields which identify the lowest and highest individual item number respectively. On another layout, we use the item number to assess characteristics of that item, but we want to automate the other fields which relate to the parent batch. For example.   2. Thanks for any help! I've created a sales tracking tool for auctions and am looking to output a report for my clients. What I'm having trouble with is creating a script to find all items with an end date (a calculated field) of Today or later. Then I can show the clients what auctions are still live and some details to go along with them.   3. I need to automate a search. I have a Donations layout with donation date, donorName, donorID, amount given, etc... I need a search that will show all records based on amount given every year for last 3 years from user inputted amount. So, the query would automatically check current date and then look back 3 years, and display everyone who has given say between $100 and $500 every year since 3 years ago. So all the user would input would be the $ parameters of the search, like amount > $500 and < $1000. I hope this makes since. I would greatly appreciate any help in this task.   4. I am running a G4 OS9.1 and using Filemaker Pro 6. A client supplied me with a file that, when opened, gives me a log-in screen to a remote host over the internet. The problem is that I can access the host from 4 other Macs on the same network, all with the same builds. I have reinstalled FMP, then I reinstalled the OS with no luck. I have checked to make sure that TCP/IP is selected and that it loads successfully. All the Macs can get to the internet(meaning they can surf the web). I do not receive an error when it fails to log in, it just brings me back to the log in screen. As far as I can tell the Macs are running with the same extensions and programs. Which remind…

  5. Hi - I'm sure there's a simple answer to this but for the life of me I can't figure out this program. I'm new to databases generally and fm i particular. I'm trying to export an fm text file. I need to add a tag to the beginning of each entry in each field before exporting so that I can upload to another program. So, for example, I would like to add "tag1 " (with a space) to the beginning of every entry in Field 1, then add "tag2 " to every entry in Field 2. How do I do this -- using monosyllables if poss?! I was wondering if there is a solution or template out there that would let me keep track of hotels, restaurants, bars whatever that I read about or visit. I have database.fp7, with the non-full-access account user_1, who has access only to several fields in table_1, as well as execute-only access to several scripts. If I'm the end-user who normally logs in to database.fp7 as user_1, and if I create a new, empty database and add a file reference to database.fp7, I can do the following: 1) add an occurrence of table_1 in the Relationships window of my new database.   13. Hello, I am using FMP to generate an HTML page using data from fields to fill in paramters and image names. Although most browsers are forgiving and do not requite the quotes areound parameters I do like to follow the HTML spec by using them.   16. I am at a loss with this one! Please help! I have a solution that has File1 and File2. File1 has a portal in it to create records in File2 via relationship. When I run a script to insert the date into a field in the portal (thus creating a new related record in File2 with an ID number as the matching field), for some reason, my lookups in File2 don't happen. And worst of all, it is intermittent.     In my initial brief look at FM7, the one glaring thing I have noticed is that text on layouts is horrible. Text is fuzzy and appears out of focus. Trying various options to make it more acceptable, I can find no suitable option that gets the fonts to look like they did in FM6. Am I missing something, or is this design intent. If this is design intent then in my opinion this will probably make FM7 layouts useless for a significant number of people. I have several users with less than perfect eyesight and it will be hard for them to read the new text. Echo

I've search through my demo version and can't seem to find this. Any ideas? BTW - I love the ability to relate files more than one relationship away, the new live security, the visual realtionship chart and the conditions you can put on realtionships.   21. Hi guys. I'm trying to find a method of creating a link that takes you to the folder that a file lives in. Essentially a field that becomes a hotlink like on a web page.   22. Help!! I am in the process of converting an Access database to Filemaker. In Access, you can use "Dlookup" to have the contents of a field automatically show up in a form. I know this is similar to the "Look-up" function of Filemaker, however, the lookup I need to occur is based on two matched fields (vs. the one matched field you set up in a relationship).   23. Can somebody help me please, I'm going crazy. I have recently upgraded to V7 and find that a summary field is not giving me the correct result. I am working with two database files and the summary field (from the master file) is returning the value for one record only rather than the group of records.   28. I am trying to make a script to make a change to a found set of records. I find the customer's job by name, and then I want to change the "Shipped" field from either a blank entry or NO, to "YES". There can be several entries for each customer/job. I get hung up trying to pause the script to find the customer (it keeps wanting to find my last find). When viewing a layout - any layout - in Preview Mode in FM7, it appears to be perfectly normal when viewed at normal size, i.e., Zoom at 100%.   34. PHOTOS: When I insert photos as a reference to the file on the server computer I can see them there in the container field, but the photos do not show up on the other computers on the network. Am I forgetting to check a box somewhere, or should I just go ahead and put the photos directly into the database? Some of the descriptions are very long, some are very short. I've had to make the Body Part in the layout very long as well as the description field, and this is resulting in a lot of dead space. What we are making is basically a price list consisting of 5 or 6 different tables, each table for a different type of tea (green, white, black, etc). Much of the information is the same in each version, but some is unique to one file or another. The record layouts are not consistent. The same fields can have different names in different files, and some fields are not found in every file. There are over 1000 records per file. I have a third table that maps a unique client ID with the many unique Item IDs related to that client.   53. I have three Mac iMac with OS 9.2 running FM Pro 5. On two of the computers they work fine as far as my problem in the Layout Pop-Menu is concern. However, one of the iMac is not working like the other two. Here is my problem. I have 15 layouts, when I click on the layout menu my option goes to the bottom of the list and I get scroll arrows at the top my pop-up menu. Customer street addresses have been entered as: "145 River Road" I'd like to modify this imported data to split it into two fields" Street Num and Street Name eg "145" and "River Road" Naturally there will be a wide variety of prefixes in front of the street name, including street numbers, apartment letters, perhaps no numbers. My setup is as follows: FMP Server v5.5 running on OS X v10.3.3 (G4 tower) FMP Client v6 running on OS X v10.3.3 (2 iBooks and 1 iMac) My problem: When trying to open a file with FMP Client v6 being served by FMP Server v5.5, I get unexpected quits. The crashlog file generated says that a "EXC_BAD_ADDRESS" AND "KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE" has occurred. If I open this same file directly with FMP Client v6, it opens properly. Anytime I try to do an exponential calculation (field^2, or field*field), any decimals in the existing numbers are removed. I've tried setting the number format to the proper number of decimal places, but I can't seem to find a way to make it work. Actually, I've had it work with ONE field. They are now opening offices in the USA and they want to keep the 2 database systems separate so they asked me to duplicate the solution. Those 2 database systems will be served on the same LAN by 2 different servers. Obviously it is very important that the US and Canadian database systems don't get mixed up.   77. I can't figure this thing out! In file1, I have a text field that has data in it that is a phone number. The data was entered by two different people, so some of the 600 fields have verdana size 12, some are verdana size 10. In file1, why can't I force the formatting to be a specific font size? And, in file2 which is related to file1, when the phone number shows up in a field or a merge field in a layout of file2, the data formatting is variable as seen in file1 where the original data lies.     When I call My Films DB I can no longer see the fields content. I read <unrelated table>. I In the Finder the file is 6 MB so all the data should be still there, but I am not able to see it at all. Opening Database>Fields, all the fields are there: all the text, number and date, although they don't appear in the browse mode, while the calculation fields don't work anymore as the "table" got either corrupted or I don't know what. I can't export anything either as the Export command is not available. I created other tables but they contain no fields. I am lost. How can I get this file to work again?     Here are a couple of issues i have with ver.7 list boxes. First Has anyone noticed a subtle (but anoying)change in the way drop down lists work in ver.7 compared to ver.6 and before? When I tab into a firld formated as a drop down list I used to be able to press the "down arrow" and get the first item highlited on the list then I just hit enter and the item was placed inthe field. In ver.7 although nothing appears to be highlited when I tab into the field by preessing the "down arrow" as before I now get the 2nd item highlited. I'm imagining a scheme where one user logs in to OS X, launches FMP Pro, then another user switches to their account while leaving the original user logged in, and launches FMP Pro again.   94. I am not sure if I am seeing a bug with the new Replace contents command or if I am just doing something wrong. I am trying to replace a date in a master table with the max of the dates in a related table. Using the replace contents function either from the menu or in a script results in a number being entered into the field, it looks like a Julian date or some other internal representation used by FM7.   97. I am having a problem at one of my customers. They are set up in a FileMaker Server environment with up to 10 workstations. The problem is that at random times one of the workstations(not the same one everytime) will get a "Sorting" dialog box when they are not on a screen that has a sorted portal and are not running a script that performs a sort. When this random sort dialog appears, it appears to be sorting all the records in one of the files. Also, it basically ties up the other workstations when it does this. I've got a bunch of users that are used to DOS bases systems where they get to type "T" into date fields to automaticaly insert Todays Dates. They also are in the habit of typeing "T+3" to get the date for three days from today, among some other formulas like this. I did that succesfully by redefining that field's name, however on the tab on the bottom right, "related contacts" there are choices to show contacts related by Name, Company or City (with "radio" buttons).
