First is baffling me but probably a simple oversight I have "Ship Tickets" and "Ship Tickets line item" files related by "TicketNumber". The portals in "Ship Tickets" display correctly but when i attempt to total "Shipped Quantity" using "QuantityShippedTotal"=Sum(BZ_ShipTicketLine Item|TicketNumber|BZ_shipTicket::QuantityShipped) in "Ship Ticket" file it only totals the first portal row.     I have a database called Job Tickets and related database called Clients. I want to see if there is a way I can view the files in Clients as a seperate layout in Job Tickets instead of having to open the Client database to add/edit new clients. Kind of like the way ACCESS handle sub-reports in a main database. it allow you to create a main database, and add/edit sub tables inside the main database without having to open the sub table.

    Does the concept of sub-summaries exist for portals? I have an invoicing solution that has files called INVOICE and LINE_ITEM. I have a portal on my Invoice Layout that shows line items like this: Category 1 1000.00 Category 1 2000.00 Category 2 1500.00 Category 2 3700.00 I want the Line_Item portal on my Invoice form to *subcategorize* the info (like I could by using subsummaries in the LINE_ITEM file to print a report that shows: Category 1 1000.00 2000.00 ======= 3000.00 Category 2 1500.00 3700.00 ======= 5200.00 Can this be done in FileMaker 5.5?:??

    I just spent hours perfecting a subtle design for some "tab" buttons, and got them just right. However, now when I click on the button in browse mode, it highlights the entire button as black for an instant while I click it. Is there any way to control what color this highlighting is (or in fact to get rid of it?)

My question: I have 3 Files: Assignments/Questions/Criteria. These are Parent/Child/Grandchild respectively. In a Parent Record layout I want to have 2 portals: Questions (related by Assign_ID) and Criteria (which is related to Question file by Question_ID).     Do I gather that using a Repeating Field(s) for a purchase order will not permit me to produce summary values for specific Item #, i.e. report how many #347 knobs did I purchase last month? Is that not possible to extract from a repeating field, and/or is it thru a portal, or must I generate a separate record for each item on PO to accomplish this?

    Using FM 6 on Win XP Pro. I've got a portal where users can create records. They select from a drop-down list of ID numbers of people in the database. This ID # field is placed underneath another field that displays the actual name that is related to this id number. When I scroll down the portal, the ID # field is brought to the front making it impossible to see the name field which should be on top. Strangely, this only happens to the portal rows that were visible before I started scrolling. The rows further down the list show up fine as I scroll.     I have a parent file which has a specific unique date field. One record for each date for 2004 I also have a child file which holds info regarding training seminars. These can be over 1 day or several days (upto a week). The child file has "Start Date" and and "End Date" fields. I need a portal that will show any child records for seminars which are active on that particular parent record date.     I thought I was dashing off a demo file, but instead have a riddle in the form of a misbehaving file... The idea is to create a portal that shows which records are actually being browsed, keeping up with all sorts of additions/omissions/deletions, etc. I had no success with self-join relations on the promising Status(xxx) functions. But FM gives us ONE potential handle on the identity of the found set: a summary total field can be analyzed to figure out which records are being totaled, provided only that every total is unique. I simply want a month to date report, which when you indicate the month, it will display on the layout all the done items for that time period. So i created a portal on the layout with a generic x relationship to done items. However, say in January there are 10 done items, that is fine, they appear but then in March when there are no done items the original 10 items from january are still in the portal list. now i get why, but what i want to do is have portal display the current found set of the done items table.     I have a really long list of fee codes (+/- 3500), so a "hotlist" is an obvious necessity. I could just allow users to flag the hotlist items in the "Fees" file and display the flagged fees in the "Invoice" file using a conditional menu, but I'd like to give the users a 'professional' interface to create the hotlist, where they can move codes to and from the hotlist....something along the lines of the FM Sort dialogue box.     I have looked for an answer to this problem but can't seem to find it. I have 2 dbs - Clients and Episodes (a given client can have more than one episode of contact). My portal is showing records correctly, but does not allow me to create a new record in the related database via the portal even though the relationship is set to allow this.     For each record in my database, there is a billing section. On that section I have a pull down menu with the tweleve months. I want to be able to choose a month and have three fields be filled with information. I want it to display billing information based on the selected month.     I am building an Manufacturing Order Process. I have a Product_order_form.db or order.fp5, and a Product_manufacturing_order_form_5.db or Man5.fp5 (order.fp5 & man5.fp5) What I need to have happen is for the user to be able to enter more than one item with its coresponding data fields on one invoice (order.fp5), but for it to automatically create a manufacturing order (man5.fp5) for each item with its coresponding data fields. i.e., <item_no> <qty> <lot_not> <prod_description> <price>.     I want to use the portal visibility trick to display (or not) a delete button in a single row portal based on the user's access to that record. I have everything set up and the portal visibility works perfectly however I can't get the button to delete the record I am viewing. If "Allow deletion of portal rows" is checked in the portal setup, the first record in the records I am browsing is deleted. If it is unchecked, nothing is deleted.     I have two files. One contains the main items, the second contains the parts that make up the main items. I want to display the main item (a title field) with a list of the related records (records of subitems) from the second file. Very simple I know, I've done it, but my problem is I don't want any borders or boxes when I print, just the text. I've looked and there doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of the border or black lines around the portal, at least none that I've found. Is there a way around this?

    Hi, I currently have a portal that shows 4 fields from another database (ie Order Number, Order Type, Product, Biller). I have a global field called g_biller in the database which contains the portal. As I type a different name into the g_biller field, the portal shows the records that belongs to the biller. I'm trying to set up a method to duplicate a record by selecting manually which fields will be duplicated. This should be similar to the Import/Export control panel. There have been several times now when users have entered large ammounts of data but had forgetten a line of information.     My project involves printing a report on each transaction, including relevant feedback text from the two most recent *related* transactions. I have been using a portal with two rows to accomplish this. The only problem is that the related field's text entries vary tremendously in length. To accommodate the longest, the portal row is a pretty tall brick, but that means that lots of space is wasted on the portal rows with barely any text.   45. Quick (hopefully) question: Using a DB in FM5.5, and trying to perform a find on a portal field. The field links to a KEYWORDS database from a main CONTACTS file, and each record can have as many or as few keywords linked as it likes. When I enter find mode, I can enter a single item into the KW portal-field, and the find executes perfectly (finding all parent records with that keyword). However, I cannot (to my knowledge) enter more than one keyword at one time this way, as the portal does not recognize that it "should" create a new portal row, etc. Thus, I cannot execute "AND" finds on this field.     Hello all, My details I have a file called Meetings and created a self-join relationship to a file called Mychild. The problem arose when I created a portal in Meetings that went to Mychild. I then created a field in the portal that is Mychild::Title. The field does not show in the portal, I also made the field into a button that would go to the layout Action Items. The button does not work, the field seems invisible. After reading the entry level portal post I thought the problem could be because there is no data in Mychild. Could this be the case? The records in Line items were initially created through yet another portal through the file Orders. Line items are related to Orders through the field Order Number. When they are created a field called Account Number is populated with a Lookup. The file Leads has a portal into Line Items using the field Account Number.   61. I've got one file (eye surgery) in which every surgery is a record. There are two portals that list all patient surgeries, one for the right eye and one for the left eye. Unfortunately, when the right eye has a surgery, the left portal creates a blank entry, and visa versa. Is there any solution to this? The portals look a little questionable with the blank spots in them. Plus, if you click on the portal (button) in a blank spot in the left eye portal, your taken to a right eye's surgical record.     I am creating a portal for daily attendance. When the user clicks in the first field of the first row and selects a name, I would like to automatically create a new portal row. I am not sure how to do this. I have seen it done before. Please help. Thanks so much.

    I'm trying to have each row showing in a portal have a number, but I can't figure out how to do it. My Key Field is called Name. If I create a summary (count of Name field) [Running], it does not just count all the records for that particular name, but *all* found records. And when I add to the records by creating new records within the portal, it doesn't update properly in any case. Is there a way to do this so that say, each of the rows for Joe Bar's records show 1., 2., 3., 4., etc. and each of the rows for Nancy Foo's records show 1., 2., 3., etc. ? All My Best, Jeffrey

    I am VERY new to FileMaker Pro and am far from understanding programing. In other words I need very simple non-programming language for answers. Here's my questions: I have downloaded Solution Framework and have been customizing it to fit my needs. When I work with several test invoices my subtotal reflects ALL my invoices and not just the one I am looking at (same with Sales Tax). It is taking the subtotal from the line item list. When I print out or preview the invoice from the report module the subtotal is correct. I am baffled and can't figure this out. Can't my subtotal (and Sales Tex) reflect just the invoice I am working on? :crazy:

    Hi I have a form with a list of item to be introduced. I can use a lookup and remember the id codes for each item, and compleat all the lines, or... I can group several items and when I introduce the group code all the items from that group just show up on the list. I'm using a portal to do that but the problem is that if the items file changes (ex: item 1 was from group A and now is from group B)all the records on the related file change, even the older ones. Can I freeze the data introduced on a record? Thanks

    I have a weird problem. I have a portal that has a listing of prices and taxes for that item. These are simple total items. When I ask for the sum of the totals of prices and taxes I do not always get the correct answer. Somewhere in the process it seems to round off the numbers causing the wrong answer. It doesn't do this all the time which makes solving the problem difficult. Anyone clues and what to check from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,

I have a global primarykey to start the search in the portal that can take any of (Name / Refrence No /Phone No of clients) in characters.     c'mon, folks. i posted this question a while ago but nobody replied with anything... let me ask again: can i have a portal return specific items/values by running a find? for instance, if i have a portal with two columns... one column with some text-data, and another "identifier" column that i would use as a key (yes, or no)... i went into find mode and, in the second column (the key-field), i'd type in 'yes' to have the portal return all the line items that have 'yes' in the key-field... or i could type in 'no' for the opposite to happen? i need to be able to do this or something similar.

    I am using Windows 2000 and FMP6 to store GIS projects data. I export print layouts from ArcView GIS and save them as *.wmf (placeable Windows Meta File) image format. A portal in my master file (Projects.fp5) shows container fields from an external file (Maps.fp5). I right click in portal field and insert the above picture ('Store only a reference to the file' box checked). Although it stores the picture, the screen starts getting full of bugs. It is also very slow.

    Hello again. I have another serious issue. It seems like I end up trying to do the hardest things possible. Anyway, here is the dilemma (in as plain o' english as I can muster...) I want to create a system that allows an end-user to select a product, enter a quantity, and then have the system look up a quantity break unit price. In other words, for each product, there are breaks: 1-5 = .15, 6-9 = .14, 10-19 = .13 and so on, and if you enter 7 into the quantity field, the system returns .14 for the unit price.   76. This is similar to a previous post, but I still have not made much progress. I have a field called SignInDeposit. This deposit amount changes as often as weekly depending upon the customer, and I would like to keep a "history" of the deposit amounts, shown in a related portal. Currently a new line item in the portal is created via a script that sets the current time, date, and user, and goes to a text field to allow the user to enter a "note". Is there anyway for me to incorporate something into this script and attach it to the fild called SignInDeposit or something I can do to keep this sort of "history"? Any thoughts?? THANK YOU

    Hi, I'm trying the make a portal that only shows tour dates to come, and hide passed ones. For example, if a band is having a tour date on 07/16/03, it will show in the portal, once 7/16/03 passes, so will the row in the portal. The problem is, there is no way to have a relation with dates you can't index. Since there child records have to be static dates and not calculations. As well, tour dates could be a year or more in the future, so having a calc in the parent file of a long date range in the only way I can figure this - and I don't like that way Anyone else got ideas?

I want to use a field from one portal to create a value list for the second portal. Is that possible? More specifically: I have (to simplify the situation): Organizations, Locations, and Phones.     Hi! I tried everything and nothing works if you have forein characters other than latin to filter a portal. It doesn't find anything at all! I tried many ways like "ASCII" characters in fields, etc. Nothing will do I use an English version of Windows with Greek character support and the only compatible font with the least problems, "Arial Greek". Any hints? Is there something i could do, or is Filemaker not supporting it? Thanks

    I have a field called LOCATION. Once this is data entered, it is very important that it not be changed by accident, however, intentional changes are OK. Is there anyway for me to have a script run only if the field is changed? This script would place the test that was changed in LOCATION into a related portal, and show exacly what was changed. However, I do not want this script to run on the initial data entry, only if it has been modified from the original entry. Any thoughts??

    Say I have a portal on a layout in my "Main" file listing the related casenotes from the "Casenote" file. I have some field on the layout below the portal that are also from the Casenote file. My goal is when I click on a row in the portal, it will update the fields below to show the information of that portal row. Below is an image of what I'm trying to accomplish. If I click on a record by A, then the fields by B should change to whatever the values from the record in A are.

    Some time ago I posted a problem I face with Duplicating records which are related via a portal. I still face this problem today and I hope someone can help me. I have 3 DB's: Quotes, line_items and Inventory I need to be able to duplicate quotes (not a problem) but also duplicate the related items with the new quote number.     I work at a post production company that uses hand written notecards to write down time codes of work that are layed off to video tapes. I have been working to create a filemaker pro database system to eliminate these handwritten cards which are often lost through misuse. Basically there are two layouts, card view and list view.     is there a way to delete a portal row's record by itself from the portal and the related db? i have the [prtal set to allow creation of related records thru the portal. the problem is if someone clicks in the "empty"/potentially new portal row at the bottom, anticipating a new record/portal row, then types any key, it creates a new record, which occasionally does not end up being needed, and so clutters up the portal with empty rows mixed in depending on the sort key. is there a way to delete these portal rows/related records without going to the related db? there is no need to use the related file unless i'm deleting these empty records, so i don't want to build …
