I have a client database with field ClientRef (unique). We have another field that directs users to other records. ie. Instead of having duplicate/similar details in 2 records it may say See ClientRef XYZ123. The only information that the 2nd field would hold is 'XYZ123'. Is it possible to create a script that would use the XYZ123 data, and go to that specific record? Hope that makes sense!!

  8. I have tried to setup a good barcode scanning system with Filemaker but it does not seem to work well. What I am trying to do is setup a retail check out station system like at a grocery store. I want the cashier to scan barcoded items in quickly without any keyboard interaction between each item. Right now when a barcode is scanned the stock number is read into the field but the cursor just sits in the same field and does not move to the next line item in my portal. The only way to get the cursor to move is to hit the TAB key on the keyboard. This slows down the check out process majorly if 100 items are being scanned. Is this possible with Filemaker? Thanks

After searching the help file, and this site, my question is this: Is it possible to determine the criteria that is being used in a FIND step within a script? I have a script that performs a SetField[] on a particular field prior to executing a search, but I don't see a way to immediately find if it's looking for <, >, or = (or combination thereof). Example: if the IDnum for a table is set to 1000, how do I know if the find is searching for all records with IDnum <1000, >1000, or equal to 1000? I know, I could execute the script, however…

I have combined all of these scripts (about 34 total) into one big script that executes them all as sub-scripts. I am pretty sure that all of the scripts work if they are run independently, but I am concerned that some processes might have been left out because of how close they are executed. Should I, and how often should I include pause steps? Are there other procedures that I should perform before executing all of these subscripts? Thanks for all of your help! Ken

In both versions, if I tab to a field with a single checkbox, hitting "return" once changes the state of the checkbox and I can tab to the next field. In FM 3.0, the "go to field" script step exactly duplicated this behavior, but in FM 5.0, the script step takes you to the field, then you must hit "return" twice to change the checkbox state. I'd need to create a button that, when clicked, prompts the (Windows) user to specify a graphic file to insert into a container field AND pick up the name of the file and paste it into a text field. I can do this on the Mac with AppleScript but I'm at a loss with Windows. I've figured out the "insert picture" part, but I don't know how to also copy the file name into a text field. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks -- J. Anderson

Hi peeps, Another question. I have this dropdown list (menulist) that has a list of delivery addresses. But the thing is I want a "As above" option somewhere that allows the user to select the same address as the address invoiced to. Ideally I want the as above option to be within the dropdown list as the default option. Anyone done this type of problem before? I was wondering how did people tackle such a problem? There is probably an easy answer to this. Thanxs, Steve Griff

It seems that there is no way to call a script in another file from a script in the active file, except via AppleScript (on a mac). Feel free to correct me. Therefore, being the AppleScript Wiz that I am not, I tried this: tell application "FileMaker Pro" tell document "Pages" do script "Update All Pages" end tell end tell When I run this run from script editor, FM bounces off the dock, I click on it and "Update All Pages" runs correctly. When, I run it from a FM script in a file related to "Pages", it gives a error: FileMaker Pro got an error, Object not found (Error -1728) Any Ideas? Thanks in Advance.

The problem is, i don't want to have to type in the date (or even cut and paste it) four different times, one on each find mode record. Is there a way to have a "master" pop up window asking what date I want to find and then have it maybe copy and paste the date in each of the four find records that are preset with the other criteria?

I've have created buttons that perform a find for a specifed letter, but I don't like that it destroys the sort order and omits the other records. I'd prefer to just "jump" down the currently displayed list as sorted. Any ideas...?? Thanks, Randy

Hi experts - how do I change the text in a text field once I've assigned a button function to the field? The normal double-clicking always brings up the script choices such as go to related record, etc. Certainly you don't have to delete and recreate the field to change the label. The same situation occurs whether I'm using my own field or using one of the FMP-supplied button icons. Help.
