I have already created these two fields and have been transferring some old data into them, but I don't know if I can change the input type to auto enter after I'm done with all the data transfer. My users will be editing a record that contains a field for First Name Last Name of a contact from a separate Contacts table. Naturally, on the report that the users are editing this field is a calculated result of two separate fields that contain first and last name of that contact. The user has the opportunity to change the name of the contact (in the case of a misspelling) and I need to find a way to update the contact record with the updated name. Is this possible? or would it just be easier to add the two separate fields?

I have an estimating database and a projects database. I have created a series of scrips to import estimating line items and est optional line items into a project. I hit trouble when trying to import est optional line items into a project. I realised i was getting error messages when the GTRR was not finding any related records (some estimates dont have options - just the base quote line items). I've got a simple script setup in FileMaker that's moving between two different layouts (one of which is a MySQL data source) to sync the data between the two. Basically pulling data from MySQL, then checking to see if that same records exists in Filemaker, and if not, delete it out of MySQL. Here's the script I'm working with... As you can see I'm simply looping through a found set of records and I've got Go to Next Record (Exit After Last) set a the end of the loop. Hi everyone, I need to separate a text field with chunks of data into different fields.. for example- 3/4/2008 (location info) (actual comment text) (initial) In the future, the date info will go to a date field, location info will go into its own text field, actual comment text will go into another text field, and so does the initial field. Anyone who has ideas about doing parsing charater by character? Any tips out there on aborting script triggers? I have OnLayoutLoad triggers for sorting and window management, but I don't want to run them when a script calls a new window (with with a GTRR or a New Window). I've tried passing Get(ScriptName) as a parameter, to check if a script is running, but I have to hard code the names of all the scripts I want to abort. I don't want to abort all the scripts that trigger OnLayoutLoad, just some. So that's cunky at the least. Thoughts?

I have created a set of layouts that I want my users to access. Basically, a user clicks on a button that then goes to a related record. The related record is opened in a new window, and then another new window is opened that displays a second set of related records. The second window that is opened displays related files that the user can open, and the first window displays a form layout that I want my users to edit. Hi, Hopefully this will make sense, as I have a customer with FileMaker database that holds Hotel confirmations and costings. The data is fairly straight forward. maintrip_id tripdetail_id hotel_id checkin_date checkout_date etc. The customer will be generating travel itineraries for their clients based on each of the days client is traveling. The key date is based on the check in day in a particular hotel. The itineraries will contain ad hoc text of things the clients can do while they are in a particular location for each given day. I have a database with 3 tables, "Survey" (parent table), and "Effort" and "Sightings" are tables nested under "Survey". I've created a layout that has all the data entry fields for "Effort" on one side of the form, and all the data fields for "Sightings" on the other side of the form so that the person can input data for either table on a single form (data entry happens fast and switching back and forth from form to form is difficult. Hi all, I have multiple checkbox fields on a layout. They are filled by a value list based on the product IDs in the back and the product names in the front, so the user can see the name when selecting and I would get the ID for my relationship. When there are a lot of selections though the users want to be able to select a product name for all checkbox fields, so I was thinking about replace field contents or a loop but I can't script the checkbox field to select a name? Hi, There are certain fields in my layout that I do not want to be changed without a warning of sorts. I only want this for certain fields (it could become a pain if it was every field), so the option to unclick "save records automatically" doesn't get the desired result. I guess what i need is a script that will run on a field (not sure which script trigger), prompting a dialog that will confirm the change. I just don't know how to write it so that if "No" it will go back to the last entry made before the changes. Does anyone know how this is done? Thanks, Jimmy

Hello, In my database, there's a drop-down menu where the user can select various options--say, A, B, C, or D. I am trying to write a script that puts an X in a different edit field/checkbox IF the user selects B, C, or D (not A) in the drop-down. Every time I write the script, it puts an X in the box regardless of what I've chosen (even if it's A). I have a bit of a head-scratcher. Any ideas are helpful! I am using a KeystrokeScriptTrigger on certain fields and am passing a "MaxCharacter" value to the script. The script checks to see if the Length( FieldContents ) = MaxCharacterValue, then the script performs a "Go to Next Field" script step. Basically, I'm only allowing X number of characters in the field (example: 5 characters in a zip code). Hi everyone, A little stuck on this one. I get a CSV Database of about 7500 products. I need to compare an old copy and a new copy of the database, and take out the duplicates in each database. I have 2 tables old_db and new_db. I import the correct files, that works fine. How can I search through these tables records and find the duplicates and delete them? I work in a laboratory and am trying to edit the a script so that info will be copied and pasted from "time scheduled" to a "study history" section, meaning that while we will constantly be updating the "time scheduled" periodically, we want to maintain the "study history" info, and only paste into a new box (i.e. if Study 1 info is full, then it will paste into Study 2 info; if Study 2 info is full, then it will paste into Study 3 info, etc). Hi, I am running a db of my finances with three tables (Banking Transactions, Receipt Details, and Categories). Now that i have the data categorized, i am trying to produce reports that will show info such as all my expenses in a certain category (sometimes more than one), summed by month and category in a variety of different ranges of dates/months. They want to see if I can prohibit certain characters from being entered. Hi, every time we create a job it auto enters a new job number. No problem there. The boss want that if a job is cancelled and the record deleted the job numbers carry on. I.e job number 15 is deleted so when we enter a new job the next one would be 15. can this be done.

Some years ago, before script triggering was integrated into FM, a great plugin had provided similar functionality, triggered from calculations. Here's the question: Do you think the plugin is obsolete now, or is it the fact that it is based on the update of calculations, could be considered as a measure to provide added security to field updating (initiated by such a trigger) done at a table level and not in the layout?

Hi all: I'm trying to develop a solution but I am using an older version (developer 6). I remember a while ago there used to be a couple of calendar databases that were free, such as cc calendar. I just need a calendar that I can sort of integrate with my solution. But it must be compatible with the .fp5 extension. However when I search the web a download of these files doesn't seem to be available. Does anyone know where I could get this, or any other calendar solutions similar to this? Hi all. i am just looking in to replacing zippscript with the native triggers in FM11. i am just wondering if there is a way to fire the triggers on field validation. not at layout level. i have 15 or so fields that use zippscript to that run scripts on update, via validation. at the moment these fields are on over 700 layouts. to relpace zipp script, from what i can see i would need to go to each layout and add the trigger to the field on exit trigger. is this correct. many thanks in advance. I want to store a reference to the images instead of keeping them within the database. My database has a script that searches for a list of merchandise that needs to be ordered for a photography project. My find function operates perfectly: Find everything that needs to be ordered. The next step is to eliminate items that are duplicates if they are the same SKU and color and in a different photo. I use variables during the search, but they change during the If/Else part. I currently have a FileMaker solution where I’ve created a script that can create a folder (for relative files) for a record once a few of its fields are filled in. The folder is created in a designated location on the same computer (a Mac) that FileMaker is running on using the Perform AppleScript script step. I’m very poor at AppleScript but was able to create some simple scripts to work with the directories. To open the folders, I simply use the Send Event script step. Hello, I have a field which contains a unique numbering, for each entry, such as 123456-654321. Which scripting parameters should I use to grab the first part (e.g. 123456) and copy/paste it into another field which is empty, and then do the same with the other part (e.g. 654321) and copy/paste it into another field which is also empty. I'm trying to write a script that will set a field across a found set based on user input and have it looped according to another field's criteria. This is a horrible explanation so here is the situation. I'm tracking three separate fields. Field A is unique. Field B is dependent on what Field C is and is user inputted. I have a script where I ask given Field C, "what is field B?". It will go ahead and set Field B for all the same Field C, then move to the next Field C that is different. I have setup a layout for students that uses the tab interface. I have a script built into it. Problem - When I run the script (via a script trigger) it works fine, and pops up a new window as a part. I am trying to get the correct syntax to subtract a value in an existing Table 2, by a Table 1 field value. I currently have Set Field[Table2::Remaining Value;Table2::Remaining Value-Table1::Used Value] However, the value that is subtracted when the script runs is actually a value in a previous record of Table1, instead of the required record in table1. How can i stipulate the Record field value of Table1 to subtract from the Table2 field value? I already am using a Copy/Paste above this step of the script as part of a find to select the correct Record in table2.

Hi everyone! I'm asking an opposite question than the one I asked yesterday - how can I combine several separate fields into one repeating field? When I was importing a series of research records (lab visit date, study name, study lab etc) into a new file which displays one record at a time, I found out that I need repeating fields in the original files in order to be exported as separate records. To be short, I would like to combine fields like Date-of-Visit01, Date-of-Visit02, Date-of-Visit03... Date-of-Visit18 into one big repeating field to be named as Date-of-Visit. G'day, I haven't checked in here for a very long time. Looks like I'm now in the dark ages with 7.3 but it still works for my limited use. I'm knocking up a quick database that will run in kiosk mode on a tablet PC to gather field data. Problem is that there will be some manual entry fields and kiosk mode doesn't like the tablet's on screen qwerty keyboard. Besides that the qwerty is tiny and not able to be used without a stylus (stupid). I've got no problems developing a qwerty in FM to pop up in a new window. I have recently cleaned up my relationships graph using the AB methodology. I now have a greater understanding of where data is coming from and going to. However i am trying to create a script that imports records from a found set in one table and imports it into another. I am using the AB method to navigate from one layout/table to another but im not sure what TO i should be using for the import. I'm trying to open a database file that has a script set to fire on opening. The script is 'hanging' the file so I need to open it without the script running. Is this possible?

I have a script that runs thousands of loops, and for some reason gets slower and slower as the number of loops gets bigger. When the script starts out, it executes about 1 loop/sec, but as it continues it slows down to 5-10 secs/loop, which is painful. One problem (perhaps not the only one) is when it gets to a "Go to Layout [original layout]" step. This step takes about 5 seconds to execute (in the script debugger). And, for some reason, a "sorting records" dialog flashes on the screen each time that step executes (I am single stepping using F5 button). So, I have a nice layout (let's call it Person_Details) that contains all the fields in a People record. And I have a script (let's call it Open_Person_Detail_Window) that creates a new window containing this layout. Encapsulated here, like the contents of a black box, are the things I want to always happen when displaying this window: Zoom=100%, View=Form, Hide Status Area, Resize To Fit, and Moving the window to the center of the screen. Anyone know of a scripting method of determining the data type of data embedded in a container? if I GetAsText on a container it returns a ? when the data is embedded or the filename of the file that's in there if a straight file insert was done. Via script (and with no user interaction) I'd like to examine a container and if it contains embedded graphic data I'd like to drop it to disk (in the temp folder) via Export Field Contents and then launch it with the default OS viewer. My database has two tables; one with product information and another that is an order form. I set it up so customers can browse items in one window and click an "ADD TO ORDER" button that copies the item number from the item database, then goes to the order form layout, pastes the item number into an item number field in a portal on the order form, and then returns to the list of items. After the item number is pasted, the order form populates with all the relevant pricing data for that item from the item database. I have a medication table listing medications and a date that each medication is discontinued. I would like to list the medications in a field if it does not have a discontinued date. Otherwise stated, I would like to list only active meds while not including discontiued meds. Using List (Medications:medication) gives me all meds. I'm trying to figure out how to script a find to pull up next week's depos. I'm using FMP to manage a depo schedule and every Wed and Fri of the current week we need to report to the client what depos are scheduled the following week. What I want to do is enable users to delete all records (without using the Delete All Records command in the Records menu) but leave at least one record remaining in the table/layout so they won't panic when they see all the fields have disappeared for some strange reason after deleting all their found records. I would like to set up a layout so that the Window Name reflects a field called, say, "Title" - so that the window name changes depending on what record is currently active. How can I do that? It seems kind of script-triggerish, but to what object or field would I set the trigger? (I want the title to change when the user clicks on the little flip-book in the status area), or after a search is executed on any field on the layout . . . Hi, I'm trying to get the number of records with a specific alfanumeric data however while FM11 finds the records I need in my Found calculation field (Get Found Count) I always get the whole number of records in my table. I've setup a report in my database to display records based on a date range. The problem im running into is pluggin the start and end dates into a script, have never really done any scripting with ranges of dates. Just upgraded to FM11 Advanced. Writing a new script using the 'Replace Field Contents' script step. When I click 'Specify', the only option offered is "Replace with current contents". Hello, I would like to match records from one table with records from another one. The problem is that all records in both tables are products with different names, packages, e.t.c. I have created a relationship and manually enter the record id of table1 to products of table2 and then with portal table view the match, but I would like also to perform a search to find similar records from these two tables based on some criteria that I established. Within a script I would like to enter a field with a pop-up menu and have it display as if I clicked on the pop-up menu using a mouse. I have tried Go to Field[field name] and Go to Object[object name] but neither have worked. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

For example: I have a radio button field for "Bait Type", with three radio buttons, "Artificial", "Live" and "Dead". I'm building a database of news articles for a research project. I have a text field called FullText into which I'll paste the text of each article. What I'm trying to do is to programmatically find all quotes in the article and highlight them with a particular color. That way I can quickly scan the article to see who's being quoted. Hi Folks, This is my first post here. I need a script that could verify if all records related to the parent table are true. For example: I need to change a field in the parent table if all records from a specific related field in the child table are set as "ok". Again ,I have a order (parent), and to send it, all products(child) must be available, so when all the items in the product list are set as "available" the script automatically sets the order (parent) as "ready". Couldn't manage to do that with "if" function. Any ideas?

Let's say I have a found set of say 50 records, I want to set serial numbers for these records starting with $initialpos So I put the "Replace Field Contents" step into my script. I select "Replace with Serial numbers" - in initial value I put $initialpos, and in "increment by" I put 1. The script actually puts the text "$initialpos" into the first record. Subsequent records are "$initialpos1, $initialpos2" etc. How can I get this script step to work like it should? I have a web form which registers students from courses stored in a Course Information DB. The Course Information DB displays course information on the website. The registration records are stored in a Registrations DB. I need the Course Capacity in the Course Information DB to be updated whenever someone registers. To do this I need to trigger the capacity in the Registrations DB to be pasted into the Capacity in the Course Information DB.
