Hi Guys, Another question for you Gurus, I have a solution which is going to be networked on a lan for 5 users, using FM Server 5.5 and FM Pro 6 under Mac OS 9. I have one remote user, who doesn't have access to the internet as he is on the go, however he would like to use my solution standalone on his laptop, and synchronise with the Main database in the office every week, when he goes in for a briefing. Are there any plugins that would cater for doing this?I've been looking at Syncdek, but Im wondering if there are any others out there where I can purchase a developers licence? Hi, I'm having a little difficulty trying to use this plugin the way i'd like. At present I have generated a a record (a task) which I would like to pop up when the time is due. my code for this is External("Actr-ScheduleEvent", "-addSingleEvent|" & gActivateDays & "|"& gActivateMinutes & "|" & gCurrentFileName & "| FindTaskScheduled" & "|" & SerialNo) This seems to be activating FindTaskScheduled within the parameters fine, however my problem is how do I bring up the correct record (task) I applied the above trigger to? Has anyone had any problems using the PDM SQLPlugin v2.1.2 on OS 10.3.4. I am using FM 7v2 and when I add the plugin to the extensions folder FM will not launch, it gives me an error report to send to Apple. I am using on 10.2.8 using Dev 7v2 with no problems. Any suggestions ??!! Thanks Brian

I've dutifully spent an hour searching past threads, but I can't find the info (except for a tantalizing comment from Cobalt Sky). I have made a runtime solution that requires two commercial plugins. I won't be selling this solution; it is intended for our own people in the field to use on laptops. I have purchased them, three-seat licenses for development locally. The problem is, when the runtime with the plugins is installed on a new machine, I get a registration screen, as the plugin detects a new machine. Is this normal? I don't have codewarrior, but I would like to play around with the example plugin in FM7Dev. Since plugins are carbon and xcode can use the carbon api, I was hoping someone had converted the codewarrior projects to xcode projects (not sure whats involved) that can be built. My problem (short version) is that i am unable to parse text properly because there is a strange endline character (i'm guessing it's some high-ASCII character) that FM's Left and Middle functions don't want to recognize. hello, I am working on a FM Plugin (Carbon PPC) using C++ and Code Warrior 8.3. But I experienced some problems regarding C++ Exceptions; They are simply not caught. E.g. try { throw 1; } catch(...) { } terminates Filemaker. I link against MSL_All_Carbon.Lib. As using MSL_All_Carbon.shlb & MSL_ShlbRuntime_PPC.lib prevents Filemaker from loading the Plugin. I purchased MenuControl from Dacons, Inc. so I could make custom menus in FileMaker. Alas, FileMaker does not accept the steps in the startup script. According to instructions from Dacons, the startup script should have the following steps: Allow User Abort [Off] Set Field ["Result","External("Cont-Set-RegName","-name-")"] Set Field ["Result","Cont-Set-RegCode","-code-")"] (where my name and registration code are substituted in -name- and -code-, respectively). The document on how to check and update plugin is a bit confusing to me. It says that to check the version of the plugin on the client computer, run the external function of the plugin's version. It then says that if the version is not returned then the plugin is either disabled or missing. My question is how do I run the external function of plugin's version if I don't even have the plugin installed in the first place. As a developer I would have them and I can do Set Field [Plugin::VersionNo, ExternalPluginVesionFunction] but if the user opens up the database for the first time wouldn't they get Set Field[Plugin::VersionNo, <Function Missing&gt…

Hi, I'm trying to create a filemaker plugin for the first time. I've copied cpp_example, FMAPI, and FMTemplate from the Developer 7 disk and created a new DLL project in VC++ 6, then added the FMPluginHandlers.cpp file and compiled. I rename the resulting DLL file to plugin.fmx and place it in the extensions directory. Problem is, when I start filemaker I don't see the plugin :-( It doesn't help that my c++ skills are very weak making c++ oriented documentation difficult to follow. We purchased a 5-seat license and the plug-in is consistently "expiring" on us; the registration just won't stick. Can't use concurrent events using oazium events. I have two fields both using validation by calculation and each one specifying oazium addevent function. The problem is when an event is activated after another event had been deployed before, only the last event to be activated works even if both are defined as persistent. If I have just one event defined everything is ok. Seems like the second event to be activated overwrites the first. Need some help please. Thanks.

I'm developing a plugin for FileMaker. It works fine in FMD7, however I am having some trouble with FMD6. There are several global variables that are accessed by a Get and Set functions one runs in Filemaker. In FMD6, however, these variables don't change. I'll run a function and set a variable to, say, 6, and the get will still return 0, the default initialized value. I don't understand why this is occuring in FMD6 but works fine in FMD7. A non-profit group I develop for is considering this as a means of doing conference registrations (processing credit cards). The need for this ability is only for 3 days each year..but the number of registrations during that time is fairly substantial. I would love to hear from others that have used this plugin. OK I have a question. I've started purchasing a few plugins for our company, to extend the functionality of our database. I use filemaker server 5.5 on a windows 2000 machine which serves the database all day long to about 15 guests in total. 11 windows users, 4 osx users. I've managed to get the autoupdate feature working kind of. How do I get the mac format plugins, onto the autoupdate folder on this windows 2000 machine without breaking the macintosh formatting of the plugin? i am trying to copy a file from my local drive to a network drive. I have two buttons- a BROWSE button that allows you to choose the local path of the file ( this works fine, because I can see the path results in field.) The other button is a SEND button, that executes the TrFile-CopyFile function. When I click the SEND button I get "$$5" returned to my status field. I have yet to find any documenation on what "$$5" means. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

All work well, BUT when I shut down my computer I restart, all my task dissapear... I always have to re-program all the task... I am sure I don't program the task well... Hi I have had a good look around on the web for a plug-in which I can use that does soundex dedup (in fact a whole dedup plug-in would be ideal) But the only one I found was from a company called blueprint(http://www.blueprint.net/flash/index.htm) who were kind enough to send me their last version of their dedup plug-in however becuase of some circumstances or what not they have stop working/selling this and the version they sent isnt xp compatible which is what I need. I'd like to export data from FileMaker, have the script seamlessly export the data without any user interaction, and have the data saved to a file whose filename is stored in a field (the file will not exist, the script will have to create the file). I've been comparing this to Dacons MenuControl plugin, and might be tempted to purchase these two as it has events triggers (saves me from buying troi activator). Has anyone had any experience with setting up menus and using field triggers with this application compared to that with Dacons product. We use Troi File Plug-in with our FileMaker 6.0 Pro database to import text files into the FileMaker database field. Our text files could be larger than 64K, and the plugin imports text file in 64K chunks. We find it very useful, and it worked OK until recently. We have a new collection of files that contain accented characters, in ANSI format - French characters, as well as Registered Trademark sign, degree, etc.. Hi I have a database of 16 files that need to make copies at the end of a week with a button. When I hit the button I would like to save a copy with no records of each file and send it to a folder based on the next weeks date. Is this possible with some sort of plug in to name a new folder . Can anyone tell me whether the Troi Dialog Plug-In will submit test to a Filemaker system Dialog. For example, I am creating a login file (gateway) to all of our various databases. I would like to control the access level to each user. So one use could have full access to one file, but only partial access to another. I am new to Troi File. I love getting a file using the function "TrFile-Get FileSpec Dialog". But, what function do I use to select a folder? I have a network with 1 server machine and 10 client machines. Win2000 and Filemaker Server 5 on the Server machine and Win 2000 Pro and Filemaker Pro 5 on the client machines. The server machine will receive a file and as soon as the file arrives a message needs to be sent to all client machines that a file has been received. I am looking at integrating Outlook with FMP using Datavations FMConnector -Outlook but have been unable to get an answer from them. As I look at the demo evaluation examples it appears that the only way to get items that were originally created in Outlook to sync is to highlight them (select them in Outlook) then switch to FMP and perform a script there. The problem I have is that this task is too much work and will be forgotten by a user thus creating a orphaned entity in outlook. I have been using Troi File plugin for some time to automatically import reference to images. But Now that I have put my Database on FMServer I am having a problem. As is normal I have my database folder set as not shared. My problem is that because of this I can not see the Images folder within this folder. As a result of this I can not set my images to be seen by the other users of the directory. Has anyone any suggestions about how to work around this problem. Thanks Mark

This may have been asked before, but at my school all the students fill in a field about how they thing their academia is improving. This is then printed onto their report. However, new users are assigned a password 'Surname Initial'. This has to be so because we don't want to be mucking around telling students their personal randomised password. When they want to first write their report they have to enter their number (which is also their username) and then their password into fields in a layout. Hi there, now i'm looking for field entry plugin. Which can control user to key in the correct length of characters and type of numeric value. For example if a text field i need to set is as max 10 characters, when user key in until 10 characters, then they will not allow to key in anymore even they still continue entry. For numeric field, user only allow key in the number 0 to 9 and decimal. If they key in other characters, it will take no action. It works correctly in the Windows and Mac Classic version, but will not function correctly in OS X. I've developed a solution that uses the "ticks" part of the Troi Dialog Plug [color:"black"] In to flash words on the screen for a given amount of time with a given interval between word flashes. This uses Global fields for the Word Flash time and Word Flash Interval. It works great in Windows, and Mac Classic. However, it does not work correctly in Mac OS X. I'm using the lastest version of Trio Dialog which I believe is 3.5. I have placed the Plugin in the Extensions folder which is copied to the root of the Solution folder. With the Troi Activator plug-in there is a function that you can use to perform a script on another computer specified by its i.p.. In this function there is also a place for a parameter that can be used as an identifier, but I can not figure out its purpose or even if it does anything. Does anyone know what this parameter is for and what it does? Thanks.

I have been playing around with the Troi Dialog plug-in, using a 5 field input dialog box. The result is a string, broken up by | All of the results will be of different lengths. So, I am getting in a muddle in trying to split the long text into its 5 component pieces.

I am trying to develop a short messages service (sms) autoresponse database using filemaker pro6 and a nokia cellphone 5110 and a pc suite serial communication port connector (DB9 connector). What this database do is that it will receive short messages service (SMS) text from an account/member and it will automatically respond to the cellphone where the message originated. Unfortunately, we can't use doscript (or any other off-the-shelf script), because we'll be redistributing this solution and we can't afford any of those plug-ins. We have made a solution with email capability and for that are we using dacons mailit 2. Every thing worked fine during development, but once we made our solution in to a run-time when the problem started. If we open the run-time send mail and so on it works, but if we open more programs, jump between programs and then try to send mail are the plug-in crashing the run-time EVERYTIME. Also if we leave the computer so the screen saver (Windows standard) is coming up and after that we try to send mail and it crashes again. So we made a run-time out of Dacons example file just to see if our solution hade a problem and the same thing happens again, crash! We have tried t…

How can I use Troi File to rename a file with the contents of a field? The field name is "Company No. for export" and this is how it is done in DialogMagic: External("DM-RenameFile", "Export.txt|" & Company No. for export) but I don't see anything in Troi's documentation regarding getting the filename from a field. Any ideas? (PS I have this question submitted to troi also, but have not heard back from them...)

Okay, I installed this SMTPit plug-in and registerd it as well. Well, the thing is that is says it's diabled after 45min because I need to register it. Since I already registerd it I don't get that option(the register button) anymore to re-register. Then I thought I just reinstall it but it made another entry in the plug-in dialog box. How can I uninstall the plug-in fresh so I can reinstall it? Thank you, Jaser

Hi, I am a new filemaker user and just learning the ropes. I have made an image database for the school that I work at. Everything is working great assuming I stay all Mac or all PC. However we use both here at the school. So here is the issue: In this Photo database we are going to have at least 5,000 high res photos. This means that we are going to need to store the photos as references. This works fine whether I am on all mac or all pc, by just mounting the image server. But due to the fact that this solution needs to be cross platform, I need it to work on both. So I thought that I would give the troi plugin a try. For the life of me I can not figure out how…

Hello, I've got FileMaker 6 unlimited running on a Mac with OSX. I'm trying to automate the printing and emailing of pdf documents. Right now I have FileMaker print to PDF, Troi rename the file, and SMTPit mail the file as an attachment. My problem: at times, FileMaker doesn't print to PDF quickly enough, and Troi (which is next in the script) has no file to rename. The user gets no attachment. Even worse, the next user gets the attachment belonging to the previous user. Hello, I am attempting to right a program using filemaker pro that imports information from an eps file, updates it and re-writes the file. Basically I have a client who has quite a few EPS files that he wants to change. In windows when you right click on these EPS files and go to PROPERTIES, then select INFORMATION, you see information about the file. User, Title, Description, ETc... I need to be able to modify this information. I was thinking about TROIFILE but the demo did not seem to import that information. ANy help is greatly appreciated.

I am adding a fax option for a filemaker database I developed last year. The solution is on windows xp pro. I can use winfax with a combination of a change-printer plugin to automate the switching between printer/fax devices however winfax prompts you to enter a fax number. Is there any plugin or a way to not prompt the user for the fax number since I will have it stored in filemaker to begin with and send it automatically? Thanks in advance.

There are several plug-ins available for Filemaker - I don't have much experience with plug ins and don't want to go thru a whole trial and error (and cost) escapade. What are the main plug-ins to consider and where is the best place to buy them? I want to achieve the normal fax, email, dialogue functionality as well as be able to take command of word-processing within FM much more dynamically. Also, are there plug-ins that provide better pop-up menus than FM offers. And finally, what other plug-ins are considered almost essential in developing a professional FM solution. Thanks!

I've got a situation which is custom-made for the Troi File plugin, and I just got into it tonight - it works like a charm - but does that mean I can't send them my files anymore unless they have it too? I've been setting up MenuControl in a bound runtime. All works well on Mac OS X but none of the menus perform their scripts on the Windows version. The menus load but nothing happens when they are selected. Anyone have any experience with this? I am running Windows XP Home Service Pack 1, Developer Tool 6.0.3.27 and MenuControl 1.5.0.2 I've sent an email to Dacons but with the holiday coming I don't know how long until they respond.

i'm trying to incorporate automatic attachments in an email quoting system which requires the system to automatically attach the quoted items' pictures to the email. i've tried every non-dialog inducing external function but they all send every attachment since i started testing it. ie the second email has the first email's attachment, the third has the two before, etc. to attach the images i'm running a looped script for every line item in a related database and then using an Insert Calculated Result into a global field i use for a plug-in response. which function should i be using and what syntax works best? thanks in advance! chris

Is there a plug in that will play a quicktime movie outside of filemaker so it can play in the background and not interfere with other applicatons that are active.

I am currently using Troi Grabber with Filemaker Pro 5 and server 5, I am using Logitech web cameras and I have 2.4ghz PC. I have had problems all along with taking photos with Troi Grabber but after some advice from Troi and a copy of some scripts (that I tweaked to my system) I managed to make the whole process 100% better unfortunately I am still having problems. When I take a photograph and click on preview, if I take to long the system crashes, if I am in the middle of taking a picture and I click off screen the system crashes, when their is more than one user using the file the system often crashes for one of us, everytime the system crashes I have to end File…
