Hi everyone. I am working on creating a little tasks application for my work. In my task layout, I have all the fields that I need and the bottom part of the layout, I have a portal that shows all the tasks including the one that I am viewing. In the portal I show: taskid taskname startdate duedate Status Completed? Delete? 001 check email 4/19/2004 4/19/2004 Open & Now, the completed? shows the checkbox that allows users to check and uncheck. The delete shows a little trash can to delete the task. Hi, I have an adress database with name and forname. This are normal textfields. The values contain among other things umlauts. Now I'd like to generate UserIDs from the two values. Hi, I'm trying to calculate various elapsed times from data, which was imported as an event log from a vehicle data recording system. Every event log row (= each record) consist of 5 fields: EventDate, EventTime, EventCode, EventDatabytes, EventData. The 2 first fields are a timestamp for the event, EventCode tells the type of the event: 2(Trip Start), 3(Trip End), 4(Idle Over 5 Min), 2048(CardInserted), 2049(Card Removed)&some other (irrelevant here). Hey all, I have a list of 150 projects that need to be ranked using a numerical order (1,2,3,4, etc.) Currently the list is sorted by a priority field in the form of (A-1, B-1, etc) then by the date the project is due. The list is in the order I want, I'm just not sure how to make the ranking field stick if I filter the list. So I'm looking for the following: 1. How to create a numerical order for the entire list. 2. How to create a numerical list for sub-groups. i.e. Give the same type of ranking but at the department level. hi, does anyone know if it's possible to design a layout or a field with variable size? I have an 'Alert' Calc field that I'm displaying on a layout to display information about the record that is not completed. I'd also like to display if there are no related records of X relationship. For instance, if there are no related records via the 'Safety Assessment' relationship, I'll want to display "Missing Safety Assessment" in the field. HI, I am using FM7 and I have a file with different tables. One table contains multiple experiments with 40 result fields (Each experiment has 36000 entries (rows) and is identified by an additional field that contains an experiment identifier, that is the same in the 36000 rows of each experiment). I would like to create kind of a "lookup" field in a different table, that should contain one result field of a specific experiment (eg. field experiment identifier= "exp3"). Hello, I have a database that is used for keeping track of the status of images and the pages of a catologue. There is about 10 images a page and I need to show the overall status of one page of the catalogue. For instance has it been planned scanned of is it finished. The problem im having is that if I have a record for each image on a page there will be about 10 diffrent records for one page, What I need to do is have a field on the main db page called Page Status that tells me if the page has been planned scanned or finished. But that would mean changing all 10 fields instead of just changing one and it changes the status of the page for all 10 records. Is there…

I've run into this problem recently, and hope there is a solution that I am just missing. In parsing some data, I wanted to get the position of the first and last numerals in the text field, but could not find the conventional method of telling FM to check to see if the character was a letter or a number. In MSExcel and (I think) MSWord , it's possible to find "the next numeral" on the page. I am making a database which i scan barcodes in to file maker and it stores them in a database. When i set the field to Number instead of text all data stays on one line that way the barcode displays properly on the screen. But some barcodes are alphanumeric so when i change the field type from number to text after i scan the barcode it automatically hits enter which produces and extra line which screws up the barcode. To simplify: I have a LineItems database with an Orders field. Each record has an order number and an item field. Hi there, i will try to be short. I'm asking me if someone somewhere already do a process of this kind. If i have example a date field with (example : Openfilesondate : (dd.mm.yyyy)), i try to get a way to show less date if no date input. The only way to do that is it, like by a script when i choose my layout, i say if date on openfilesondate, go to layout with date, and if not go to layout with no date. i'm trying to extract the 3rd and 4th last characters from an 8-character string. for example, if the string is 12345678, i want to return 56. i've worked around it by having an intermediate calc field Right (inputfield, 4) and then using a Left (intermediate, 2). but that's an extra field and feels clunky. seems to me it should be possible to directly access the required characters. the input field always has 8 characters if that helps, and it's formatted as text, even though it contains numbers. Each time I get the next information out I delete it and it keeps leaving a massive empty space before the first information comes up and it is in a scrollable field. I've been waiting for the ability to turn one text field RED based on the value of another. Situation: I have a personally created Wine database. Each wine has a name and the ability to select from a Pop-Up menu "Want" "Have" etc. I've wanted to be able to highlight the names of wines I want in RED on screen for easier location (when no FIND or SORT has been done). Hi, Trying to import eps files in a container (with the right .eps extension) works. But when browsing or previewing FMP 7 adds a white layer underneath the field. So when using a text field underneath the container field is now impossible. (Worked with FMP 6). But when you print the file it shows only the eps file and not the white layer. My suggestion is that when importing (or linking) an eps to a container, FMP 7 uses the file preview of the file and when printing it uses the real file. I have just upgraded to FM7 from 5 and wish to use what I think will change text colour depending on a calculation result. I'm building a fault management system in FM7. I'm using Timestamp to record start times and end times for the fault and then calculating elapsed time. Resolution Time = Timestamp Closed - Timestamp Open The problem is, I want to create a report showing Average, Min & Max resolution times. Ok... Within FileMaker I have a number of records whose fields are populated with Data that is ALL CAPS. I need the data to be in Title Case format. Easy fix... right? Sure, jump into Layout and change the format of the fields to be "Title Case." Viola! All of the fields are displayed in "Title Case." I'm fairly sure this is a calculation, but I'm not sure if it's possible. I am building a finance company's processing database. I need to show a timestamp in one field, when there's a change made in another (any change). For example: a user changes the disposition of a loan from Pending to Approved (set up as a value list, pull down menu). Once the user takes that action, a field labeled "Date of Disposition Change" automatically timestamps when that change was made. Hi there, I'm having a little trouble getting a file container field to properly locate a file when the database is moved to another computer. I'll explain the details... The database is of practice song files for my band. The song files are in folders named by the date, and the filemaker file is in the root folder of all these date folders. If I copy the root folder, which includes the filemaker file and all the song files, to another computer, the container that references the file(which is used to play the audio file from within filemaker) no longer has anything in it and I must reload. I'm stuck again I am trying to get Filemaker to correct a couple of fields once information has been entered in them for example, I use a barcode reader to scan in serial numbers and telephone numbers of mobile phones. I have a popup list which lists cities. The user selects the city and hists the "go" button. The user then is given a list of stats (from summary fields..i.e. percentage of females in that city as a percent of total individuals in the database)... When I do this one at a time, it works great. The user then has the choice to compose a letter etc.... However, I am trying to create an "info" layout in which the user will see a repeating field with all of the cities on the left and the corresponding calc values on the right. Hello, I have a 'wish list' field and an 'actual' field containing multiple items (could be check boxes or radio buttons). These use the same value list. I'm trying to create a 'pending' field to automatically show me the 'wishes' that aren't yet 'actual' but can only get a blank field. Hi I have to write a database for an car auction to keep track of data and lane assignments for 8 car lanes. Each lane will possibly contain the information of up to 200 cars. I think I have to write 200 A fields and 200 B lane fields and so on. The labels would have to be A1 to A200, B1 to B200 etc. Right off the bat I would be dealing with 1600 fields. with 3200 lookups and at least 4000 scripts because of what has to happen to the information. Is there an automated way to delete all records where one field within a record is the same as another.

I need to create a summary field for work oustanding containing the total of a certain field, however, some of the values in this field have a negative value due to the way my client works... example record 1 work oustanding on project x = -10 record 2 work oustanding on project y = 45 At present the calculation = 39 when in actual fact the work oustanding is still 45 What i need to achieve is a calculation which ignores the negative values or at the very least treats them as ZERO so that negative values do not impact on the work still oustanding in the summary field. I am just getting to know v. 7. My first note of sadness came when I learned that they evidently did away with the TODAY function. They have a Get(current date) function but this does not seem to update (IOW, it gets the current date the first time it runs but does not update thereafter). I'm trying, from a script, to open a file that has been stored in a container field. As far as I can tell, I can only export and not open directly. I can force it to export as a particular filename (e.g., "Test"), but that causes problems if the user tries to view files from more than one record at once. In addition to the font problems, there is a problem displaying graphics in a picture field. Specifically, a PNG of a scientific graph (xy plot) looks fine in FM 6 and fuzzy in FM 7. I am getting a 2 cent error when I try try Field X * 0.35 and Field Z * 0.35 and then Add them using a Calculation Field Total = Field X + Field Z then I use a Summary field to Total up Field Total. This is done using data from 6 records as a test. All looks good but when checked using a Hand Calculator we found the error. The number field is set for decimal with 2 digits, as in $2.00. My Wife reminded me that I had this kind of error when I first got FileMaker Pro V3.0 updated to 3.0V6. Seems to me that someone had said their was a bug causing the error. I just managed to get something to work, which may be useful to someone, somewhere, someday :-) Which is that the paths to files which show (or are otherwise referenced) in container fields behave much like html filepaths. You can not only go "down" from your current location, you can also go "up," by using the standard "../" (up 1 folder, directory). You cannot, however, just use a full filepath. Is it possible to create dynamic value lists within FileMaker 6? example: I have a pop-up menu with five selections, A B C D E. I have a second pop-up menu with other sub-selections, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. I want the selections in the second pop-up to be dynamic and only show relevant choices based on what is selected from the first menu. I have a summary field defined as Average of completed within 10days field. The completed within 10 days field is a calculated field. I also have a total completed. However, if you are also using the unique value verification then you cannot give more then one feedback message to the user based on which verification failed. I want to do the following: if someone types in a phonenumber, the city part of the phone number should be in brackets. With 'filter' and 'let' I could get somewhere but: this is Germany, all phonenumbers have 10 digits. What complicates this challenge is: some cities have 3 digits (Berlin: 030), others have 4 (Essen: 0201) and loads of them have 5 digits. Script step: INSERT FILE into a container field... I get how to do this, but then how the hell do I get the file out? I understand that I can "export" the file, and then have to change the suffix to the proper file type (e.g. ***.pdf or ***.doc and so forth).
