Might make sense to ask these questions in an Access forum, but so far, nobody there knows FileMaker, so... A couple things I could use some help on from anyone who has used both platforms a good bit. In FM, when I want to process imported data bit but not weight the solution down w/too many calc fields, I use an auto-enter calc that adjusts the data during import. So, what's the nearest equivalent to an auto-enter calculation in MS Access? I'm using calc fields so far, but have concerns about this getting slow eve…

I am reading great things about Raspberry Pis and so I am wondering if anyone has tried to run Filemaker on a RPi? As apple is already using ARM processors maybe it is possible? I hasten to add that I have absolutely no programming, dev or linux experience, so this is a really neophyte question. Thanks for any thoughts

We've been running FM Pro 9 on two virtual Citrix servers with no problem for a while now. We decided to upgrade them to FM Pro 10, after seeing favorable results from regular desktop users. Strange, but as soon as we installed and ran FM Pro 10 on the Citrix servers is when the problems started. When one user logs in and starts using FM, the CPU load stays at about 45 to 50 percent. Second user logs in and runs FM10, the CPU load is at 90-95%. Third and subsequent users are so slow it's unusable. When it was rolled back to FM9, then everything is hunky-dorey. From what I've been told, the only change to these servers has been the FileMaker s…

Does anyone have an opinion as to what are the benifits of using Citrix over Terminal Services? Which is a better solution and why? From my limited reading it seems like TS is fast, cross platform. A bit of background before I ask my question - the main product my company sells is a shrinkwrap that the price is determined mainly by how many users was to run the program at any given time. Most clients are using a runtime, while the others are using Server to host the database. Anyways - I know that Filemaker can run on a Citrix server. I've even read the whitepapers that FileMaker has available on the subject. But this potential client wants to run a Runtime version on Citrix. Our database was designed for the Mac and has worked well for a number of years but since migrating some of our workstations to Citrix and Windows output prints incorrectly due to the fonts on the Mac and PCs being ever so slightly different.
