FileMaker Server v7 - v11

I am in the process of converting our online registration system from CDML to FX.PHP and I'm ready to set up an SSL connection on some pages so that users entering their credit card information get the lock showing in their browsers. I'm using FMSA8 on the same computer as the Web Publishing Engine and the Web server. Is there any more to it than simply installing an SSL certificate under Apache and directing users to https:// addresses? Do I need to turn on secure connections in FileMaker Server Admin if I'm going to serve secure PHP pages in Apache that link to FileMaker, or doesn't it matter?

Is it OK to store a Filemaker database on a server? I was told if I do not specifically install Filemaker Server the files in the database will be corrupted. There's only three users sharing it over the network.

I am interested in hearing about the backup procedures that are being implemented with filemaker. We currently use tivoli which needs volume shadow copy to run. So we are actively persuing an alternative procedure.

Our company has been unable to get FMS9A working with Apache running with iTools 8. View a screen shot of error message. According to Tenon (the developer of iTools) they currently have many customers successfully running iTools 8 with FMS8A and the FileMaker PHP/API beta. According to Eric Jacobson, Product Manager of Internet Technologies at FileMaker, Inc. "FileMaker Server 9 for OS X only supports the version of Apache that is provided as part of OS X. I'm trying to set up a test environment in OS X Leopard and cannot get things working. I installed FileMaker Server 9.0v3 Advanced on a cleaner Leopard Server install. When I try to launch the Admin Console I get the following errors: First, I am told the Database Server is not and am given the option of restarting it. After clicking restart I am told "Unable to start the database server". The console app sits for several minutes so I then quit it and am told "An unknown error has occurred." (Posted to the Server forum as I believe this is a performance issue specific to Server) I have two very large tables (600,000 records each) that are related by a 2 field relationship -- Date, and ID (numeric). Call them Table A and Table B. It's a one-to-one relationship. I have a need to make sure that every record in table A has a child in table B. Right now, I'm doing this: Go to layout (Table A) Perform Find (finds for TableB::ID = *) Show ommtted records loop set field TableB::ID ; Table A::ID go to next ; exit after last end loop The problem: The initial find step takes 15 minutes or so! I've moved a solution onto FM Server and am hitting into a few bad performance surprises. I don't know how Filemaker divides its work between the server and the client, but I have a hard time understanding why Delete All Records is as slow as it is. Basically, I have a "work" table that needs to be emptied every time, prior to being used. It can have typically around 7000 records in it, and it just crawls on the Delete All Records step. Import is also a problem. I'm simply importing into my work table from the found set in another table in the same database, but it only manages about 5 per second when it runs on the server. The problem: I've got a >100 000 record database hosted at fmgateway. Users access the data via cwp. The user speed is fine. Other processing with this data happens using fm pro on my desktop with the data at fmgateway (separation model). It's really slow. If I store the data on my local fmserver the processing speed is fine but then the user cwp access is slow (because I have adsl) I thought I could have 2 identical databases - one running locally and the other hosted at fmgateway and replicate them. I looked at a commercial replication solution but it seemed a bit pricey. Any ideas? Thanks Pete

I have an Applescript Script application set to run as a scheduled OS Script. It's not working and I'm wondering why? I receive a confirmation email from the Server saying the script has completed running: FileMaker Server 9.0.3.325 on FMPSERVER reported the following event: 2008-05-13 17:07:00.311 -0500 Information 150 SXFMP Schedule "FMP Backup Archiving" completed. But it didn't run. The script application runs fine if I launch it in the Finder, but no matter what I've tried, it does not execute when the FileMaker Server says it did. Any thoughts or ideas what could be wrong?

Hi, I am running a scheduled script on server 9v3. It worked fine for a little while and now I am getting a "ScriptMaker script aborted" message. I checked all steps and they are all web compatible. There is not conflict with other schedules and I have changed the time and frequency of it and still the same. I run the script manually and it works fine. Is there at least some way to find out why? It doesn't tell me why just that it aborted. What could be causing this? Thanks Mike

Hi, I've a client who would like to export individual records from their filemaker database to his website, basically use filemaker as his cms. The records do contain images. I am getting my head around filemaker server, and i'm wondering if it's overkill. The reason I say overkill is because i don't need any live sharing of data from the database, just a publishing solution My preliminary thoughts were to use it to communcate to a php upload script on the web server (if that even possible, please don't laugh). I'd like to know more about how to best share filemaker files. I got an error message saying that I should not share a file directly from a remote volume because it will reduce performance and affect reliability. It says I should, "instead share the file by opening it in FileMaker Pro software on the same computer where the file is stored on disk. I have 3 separate databases running - one publishing to the web using iwp; one publishing via php and the other does not publish to the web. Hi all I have finally got my FMS9 servers up and running on Mac OS X Servers running 10.4.11 server and FMSA9.0v3 in a two Machine Model. We have more than one filemaker server. Under FMS8 you could use the same Web Publishing Identifier, you could publish your portal information from the other Data Servers. Can you, under FMSA9, publish data from other server via a portal. EG. Server1 is the Master Server, Server2 is the Worker Web Publisher. Currently this is all working fine. It is publishing my data. But if I have a relationship to a database on Server3, it does not publish. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers …

Hello I am running fm server 7 advanced and can not open my file for sharing...i right click and hit open and i see it change the status to opened and it goes right back to closed....i have had this problem before but cant remember how to fix it...i think i renamed the file or something to that nature. Any ideas? I am desperate!!!

I am using two PowerPC G5's as my test servers. They both have Mac OS 10.5.2. One has a trial version of Filemaker 9 Server installed as master. One has Tenon's iTools version 9 (Apache 2.2), Lasso 8.5.5 and Filemaker 9 Server installed as a worker. I presume this loads FM's Web Publishing Engine. I have removed any mention of FMSA 8 and jk_mod from the httpd.conf file. When I try to connect the master to the worker, it fails. It sees that Apache is loaded and then: "Web Server Test Failed. I've been looking around and have yet been unable to find any information on what kind of hardware FileMaker Server can utilize. Is it designed for use on multi-core processors? Multiple processors? Multiple processors with multiple cores? Will it utilize the power, or will it only end up using a single core?

We have successfully deployed FM Server on two of our XServes running Leopard. In both cases, the two NICs were used to form an aggregate for redundancy. But we have a need for these servers to participate on two different networks & were able to put VLANs on top of the aggregate. Again no problems as far as system access was concerned. No so for the server, it went down in flames. Does anybody have FM Server running on a system with VLANs? Or even on a system with two networks (one on each NIC)? Thanks.

I've got an older server running FileMaker Sever 9. It's under the necessary spec for FMS9. However, I've got little choice but to use it until the new server requisition comes in. So, I'm wondering what I can do to help improve the performance. As essentially everything important can be performed from the fmsadmin console tool, I was wondering if Java could be disabled: it's using 800+ Mb of swap and 100Mb of resident private memory, amongst other things. I'm not able to see how FMS actually uses it, directly. So, can I disable/shut down the java process, and if so, is there a 'clean' way to do so?

I'm trying to help someone who wants to know what is supported or not, and what the limitations of are, for using FileMaker Pro 9 to open files on Server 7. Hi, We have just upgraded from Server 8 to Server 9, and I have selected the option "Verify backup integrity" for both the midday and nightly backup we run. And, we have received the message "Verification failed" after each schedule has been run... The backups themselves look fine - the correct number of files have been backed up, they are the correct size, and I can open and use them fine. I can't seem to locate any documentation regarding the verification process. Does anyone know what the verification process is actually doing, and what might be causing the "Verification failed" message? Thank you, jd.

I have a couple of files that are closed on FileMaker Server while they are being edited, but every time the server reboots, the files are re-opened, suddenly making them accessible by the users again. What is causing this and how can I get the files to stay closed until I say? : Thanks, Joni

Hello, we are using CWP XML for sending request to a FM8 Server on a Windows Server. Now we have some performace problems with higher user numbers sending queries to the db. While we're optimizing everything (hardware, reducing layouts, etc) we questioning ourself how the WPE handles CWP XML request. Does it process all XML request on a one by one method in a serial way or can it process multiple requests at the same time. Are there differences when sending request to different layouts, tables or files for multithreading request? I hope someone can bring up some infos on how the WPE process multiple incoming request. Does anyone know of a way to get current time from the Server rather than the client machine? We have a time tracking system setup that requires a get current time function. The problem is that we need to make sure that all the client machines have their time set accurately. Would love to be able to get the current time off the FMServer machine or some other centralized computer.

Hi Guys I've been trying to reconfigure my webpublishing area in FileMaker Server 9. In the area where it says which protocol I should use, I've chosen HTTPS to communicate with the webserver. When I try testing it using the button, I get an error -1 returned. I know I have SSL installed on the webserver correctly. Can someone indicate what error code -1 means and how I can rectify it? Bear in mind this server used to work fine with HTTP until I placed a certificate. Thanks Jalz

Can you not alter files on the server? I tried to add a field to a table, I got a message saying the file is not modifiable. I also tried to link a dbs on the server to another on the server and got a message saying the file was open and for me to go through remote to access it. I was already in remote. I was the only one in the office and didn't have FM open on my PC. I also removed the files I wanted to link and alter and got the same message about the file not being modifiable. Is there a lock on the Database that locks the whole thing? HELP The Tramp

If you set up a file to be hidden in the remote dialog box, how do you make it accessible in scripts? For example if I was in one file that was being hosted on the server and I wanted to setup a script to open a hidden file. How would you do this without taking them offline? In the old versions of filemaker if you wanted to do this while the file was being hosted on the server, the dialog box within scripts would open the hidden files.

Hi, I am trying to create a script schedule but it seems that I've found another of Filemaker's billions of bugs and limitations. I am trying to make the file import records from a file in same folder once a day. I've tried it using using a local path, a relative path, a windows path, and a networked path. The server utility shows that the script was performed without error but no files are imported. Also, I tried to get it to send an email to me (Just the simple mail function in the script maker) and it won't do that. I had to reinstall Filemaker server 9.0 when I forgot the username/password for the admin console. I also had to reinstall OSX Tiger server as well--I really messed it up. Now, everything is working great and has been for the past few months. However, whenever I need to adjust the OS X server admin settings (I added a new printer yesterday) I get the OLD filemaker database IP address from last year AND the one we're using now under local hosts! Better yet, this old "local host" ip address comes and goes, now it's gone. It's phantom presence caused startup issues--what a mess! I'm trying to figure out exactly how filemaker server counts concurrent connections. My understanding so far is that it supports: 250 TOTAL simultaneous connections: - 250 via client - max 100 via IWP (out of the 250 so you could have 100 iwp users and 150 client users) - 50 xDBC connections (and i guess these 50 are substracted from the total overall connections as well? so you could have 50 odbc connections, 100 IWP and 100 client) How are the PHP connections (via fx class or via PHP API) counted? Do they count as a single connection? What does "simultaneous connections" mean in the context of php and how does it affect the other connections…

Hi There I am not a user but a business owner who needs some independent advice. I have a ticketing service that sells tickets to shows. Currently we use a file maker application for desktop sales. We wanted to go to a much bigger on line service and commissioned this in FMP. It is now running but in big trouble speed wise. I am getting conflicting advice. I have a script that I have set to run when the file is opened, however it won't run! It's a script that updates a date field to show today's date and some other dates that come from another database. Right now, we have to manually run this script. The same script opens and works on every other database but one!

I have an order in for a full license, but it hasn't made it through purchasing channels yet. The demo install has been working fine up until last friday. On an FM9 server under Windows 2003 the IWP Engine keeps stopping and I see no errors in the log. It also will allow users to connect intermittently. Is there a way to repair the IWP engine or do a repair install of FM9?

Hi, i got a problem with FM on my terminal server. All the client are install on XP and FM server on MacOsX . I have FM 4 My problem is : When I'm openning FM and try to connect on the server with a user account, I can't see any file on FileMaker server.When i'm login with administrator account I have no problem, all the files are visible. With user I tried to connect on server but I can't see files. I modified a lot of access-rights but nothing change. I have 10 licenses and they're not all used. There is some new information related to Java and the Admin Console that pertains to users who have more advanced 64 bit machines. First, see Apple Tech Info 307403 and then see FileMaker Tech Info 6842. If you are running Leopard and having trouble with the Console, this might be a solution. I have my contact list imported into Filemaker, and followed the instructions to a T for setting up the Campaign. However, when I go to the tab to add recipients, It toggles to my contact list with the red arrows - when I click the red arrow next to the name I want to add to the e-mail list, it toggles back to the Recipients on the Email window, but doesnt add the contact name to the list.... When I try to start the Admin Console I get two errors: 1)The database server is not Available. To edit server deployment, please start the Database Server first. --I then have an option to restart or cancel so I choose restart. We've got a FM solution that consists of a number of different files. They all have the same un/pw so you only enter it the first time and then the other files open without the need for credentials again. I recently added a new file into the mix of things to store images pulled from a digital camera. I added the same un/pw to this file just like I did all of the others. I was actually working remotely and I logged into the FM server, added the new file and opened it up inside FM Server. It shows running just like the rest of them. We are trying to get FM9 Server ADV running to do webpublishing. The server installs fine and run as a normal server.. When I am in the Admin Console and try to deploy the web server portion it will not connect. I have tried various ports 80, 591 and get the same result. have rebooted, reinstalled. I have a little program to monitor the IP ports and I am seeing no activity on 591 during the test portion of the deploy. We do have a normal web page running on the machine. We have some DBs that are accessed by webpages (a directory lookup for example). Never had this problem when we were on v8 server, but now that we have moved to v9, these connections never terminate. If I dont go into the console every once in a while and close connections, the connections pile up until a max connections limit is reached. I'm a Windows SysAdmin, not a FM admin, so any help is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure this has to do with our FM Server configuration -- but I'm not sure exactly is causing the trouble. FM Server Advanced is running on a PC Server. Files are hosted and normal. PCs can access without problem both manually and with an opener file. However, the Mac computers can see the server, but the files do not appear in the right-hand box when the server is selected. If we specify the name of the file, or if we use our opener (which works fine on PCs), we get an error message ("Either the host is not available, or the file is not available on the host"). In our solution we want all users who log in to a particular Windows XP workstation to have their Filemaker application User Name set to the Workstation name not the individual AD name. The Users can move from station to station and we want to have some functionality constrained to a particular station. The problem is if a new user logs in, a prompt will come up the first time they open Filemaker which asks the user for a name and defaults to the AD User name instead of the workstation name. Is there any way to either get this set once for all or have it default to the workstation name?

Hello FM Gurus, We are setting up another FM server and we just had an issue where we changed the stripe size of our RAID system for our SQL cluster and saw a HUGE difference. I've just started to test FMS 9. After one hour of using my solution (20 files) with a few clients... I saw some strange negative values in the column "average" of the Statistics. Hi, I am trying to install the trial version of FMS9 on a Windows 2003 SP2 server. The install (single machine) goes OK, the Admin Console works, but during the deployment setup when it gets to the web server configuration no web server is found. I confirmed that IIS is working properly, but for some reason FMS does not see it. I have tried several reinstalls and done a lot of searching the knowledge base and forums. Is there any way in FileMaker 9.3 Advance or Server to show who is currently online in the database?. I'd like to avoid when 2 users are online with the same UserName. For example, i'm a client working by internet with the database, when i'm on the middle of a process, another client log in with the same username. I am moving from Peer-to-Peer Sharing to Server Advanced 9 and I am installing with Windows Server 2003. This is my first time working with Server operating systems. Are there any do's and/or don'ts I should know while setting up Windows Server 2003? For example are there services that can be disabled or set to manual that would help performance. I have a 432 mb database running on my laptop, have server advanced 9 running on it. I have uploaded it and I try and open it on the database status page. It sits there and verifies and verifies and then goes back to closed. I believe it may be my laptop does not have the horsepower to handle that big a file. I am on a 1.8 ghz sempron with 1.256 gigs of ram. Other databases I have are able to be opened and this is the only one I am having difficulty with. I am running XP SP2 btw.

Hi, we plan to migrate from FM 5.5 (Client & Server) to FM 9 (Server Advanced & Client). The main change should be the use of web publishing, as we do have about 600 students, which only should have read/print/search-only access to the databases. There are just a few users allowed to change the data (they will have FM Pro 9) and somtimes we have temporary staff, which should be able to change the data by webaccess. My company just brought a 10 seat licensed for Filemaker Pro 9 and one licensed for Filemaker Server from FM. I have been reading that it would be best to have a dedicated server for FM. If we do not install FM server on a decicated server, what kind of problems would we have. Would it work or would it crash would we lose data We will be scanning inventory into FM. I have Leopard's firewall on but every time I launch FileMaker 9 it asks me if I want to accept incoming network connections. I click Allow and in the Firewall Preferences I have FileMaker selected to Allow connections. But it keeps asking me every time. Is there a firewall setting I'm missing? Thanks.

Hi I have the problem that shared databases doesn't show in the wpe web interface. They are xml and xlst enabled, but none is shown on the list. It has been working fine for 2-3 years. Hello, Hope someone may be able to shed some light for me. I'm pretty new to Vista but I haven't been able to remotely access FM files using an OpenVPN connection since I got my new laptop. I've got a WAN Miniport connection to a different server which I can access remotely with FM, so it only seems to be the VPN that's the problem. Although OpenVPN is connecting fine, when I click on Favourite Hosts, there are no files available. I installed the same setup on an XP machine on our network and the files were accessible straight away. If I ping the server on the vista machine it tells me 'TTL expired in transit.' I am having trouble with 5 of 7 folders for my daily backups. I get the error of permission denied. All folders have identical permissions. OS, FMS, and the backups are on one drive. My database files sit on a mirrored RAID. Any ideas?

We are in the midst of a network transition. During this time both servers and workstations are getting a second IP address. So now they have 10.10.x.x and 172.18.x.x. What I've noticed is that standalone license installations (like my FM8 Adv license) will produce a license error if I try to open a file from the server at 10.10 and then open a remote file at 172.18. The error says the license is in use and Filemaker will close. A pain, but I can work around it. What i am concerned about is my SLA licensees. If they open some databases from the server at 10.10 and some from 172.18, will they show as using two licenses. Not sure how I can tell... But is there …

I am going to propose a new Xserve purchase for our small business and I'm interested in a couple things... 1) How well does a single quad-core processor multi-task? Am I right in thinking that FMS 9 will share these cores with other processor-intensive applications nicely? 2) Our current Xserve (single G5, 1 GB RAM, FMS 8) seems to be using RAM a lot more than processor power, and from what I've read, FMS 9 will take and use whatever you give it on the server side. Hi. Is it possible to make that users automaticly connect (login) to my database through IWP as guests?

Hey folks, I'm installing FM9 server on a new machine, upgrading from a very old version, but starting with a fresh install, I've already converted my databases and all is well. But here is my problem, I've set up my machine the way I want it, added/subtracted apps, utilities etc, installed FM9, started the server, no problems. Now I run general maintenance (I'm running onyx, permissions/prebinding, nothing crazy) so I can make a clone and have a clean copy for restore if need be. After the onyx restart, the dock has reverted back to the original, the alias's for FM have disappeared, the system login name has been modified to include user at the end, etc etc. Does…

fms 9.0.3 xp sp2 I have certain schedules that when disabled or deleted, appear to 'take' the applied change in the admin console, but when then reappear the next time the admin console is opened, or in the same session when the config panel is cycled through.. How can I clear this? v3 was just applied, but it is still happening.

Hello I am unable to deploy the php element of FMS9 for mac. The installation goes fine until the deployment where the deploying never stops. The config has a macmini with fms on it that is behind a linux server that is the master router for the web. I want the FMS to feed a php web site that is setup on the linux server. The other FMS services seem to work fine. as anyone ideas why or knows where I can find useful console info? Machine: Macmini osx 10.4.11 FMS 9.0.3.325

In a 3 server configuration do I need to send calls to the WPE IP Address or the FM Server IP address? right now we just have a 2 machine config. and filemaker.ourdomain.com points to our fm server. that's what i'm using for all of my PHP and XML API calls to FM. I'm guessing I'll just need to setup another subdomain that poitns to our WPE and start using that instead?? Any info would be great. Thanks!

Have anyone experienced this, when I reboot my machine it works fine to get in to the new javabased monitor for the server. But after a day when the server has been running and I try to start the monitor again it only sais: "checking for new version...." and dosent start. What can I do? Do I really need to reboot my machine everytime I want to change my settings?? Regards Joakim

I'm running FMS 9 Advanced on OS X Leopard. I have enabled IWP so that clients can log in to a personalized web page. On these pages, I want clients to be able to download previously generated .pdf files specific for each client. Is there any way to do this short of some plug-in or using PHP? In terms of privileges, it would be fine to use the admin privileges on the server to serve the file to the client. I have searched endlessly for this to no avail. Also, is there any way to put a static http:// link within an IWP layout that will properly function? Any help is appreciated. - John

I'm hoping to deploy a small invoice-writing application on an office LAN using a Filemaker's peer-to-peer sharing rather than a true server. The host computer will be largely dedicated to its role, running XP. There will be two or at most three guest computers accessing the host at any one time. Usage will be light. I know very little about FMS. Could someone comment on what sort of problems I may encounter using p2p sharing that FMS is designed to overcome? Thanks, Chap

Hi, We seem to have a semi-frequent occurence with some of our clients that manifests itself a couple of different ways... 1. Clients connected with Pro 8.5v2 lose communication with the host. 2. If already logged in to FileMaker Server Admin, the connection is lost. 3. Trying to login to FileMaker Server Admin fails with "Service is not running, would you like to start it now?" Selecting Yes has no impact. Both the FileMaker Server 8 and the FileMaker Server 8 Helper are still running. why is it that everytime i login (or maybe its everytime i start) fms9 puts an icon on my desktop. its kinda annoying. i've got that icon in my dock and that's plenty. is there a setting to change for this?

Hi We're running a windows box (SBS 2003) with FileMaker Server 9 Advanced. I've enabled IWP from the Admin Console (on IIS) and can view the IWP home page fine from the server itself (at http://127.0.0.1/) However, I can't acces it externally from the web. The box is connected to a router and I've opened the following ports: 5003 50003 16000 160001 80 I can open the file remotely fine using FileMaker Pro 9 on a client machine, but can't see the IWP page by browsing to the server's public IP address on port 80. fms 9.0v3 under xp need to create hourly backups, and a directory for each hour has been added under /C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/ as per: /C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/0800 /C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/0900 etc (should the hourly sub directories be named with letter prefixes as per bup0800 etc ? ) when I specify the path , e.g. filewin:/C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/0800 Status flags them as - not a valid path What might be up?

The switch to Daylight Savings happened last night. Our FMS9A machine adjusted its clock, but scheduled backups are still occurring using old-time, that is, an hour later than expected. In other words, the backup that is supposed to occur while everyone is out to lunch actually happens when they return. I used Server Admin to go in to alter the schedules, but they appear to be set up correctly (they haven't changed) and Server Admin states the server time is as it should be with the DST shift. I bet this is something simple I'm missing, but it seems like a catch-22.

I find server doesnt always restart when the machine restart although I have that checked in the settings. Anyone else get this? I am running the server on a mac mini intel core 2 duo 2GHz

I have a several databases hosted on a dedicated web based server running FM Server Advanced. Most of these databases used to be part of a larger solution. I had effectively created a production manager for my cabinetshop with many related tables. Task management was linked to a client database which was linked to a contractor database, etc. Most of this worked pretty good on a local area network. When I moved it to the web (so that it was accessible from more locations) the solution started to run extremely slow. I have databases hosted with FileMaker Server Advanced (8). I have several databases turned on for IWP. All has been running well until about a month ago. My campus secretaries are able enter their user names and passwords, and see the databases, but when they click on this one particular database, they receive and "unknown error number 13". Their option is to click "Okay" and then the following message comes up: "Bad Request. The server could not process your request because your session has timed out, been closed, or communication with the server has been lost." When a client logs onto my database remotely and makes changes, I need to log not only the user account being used but also the IP address of the computer being used. FMP 8.5 and FMS 8 server.

All: We're looking into allowing our clients to upload their own files (and start & stop them) on our FileMaker Server; I know that a number of hosting companies allow this kind of thing, and I wondered if there was an off-the-shelf product that allowed this, or if we would have to roll our own. Currently we handle new uploads on an individual basis, and it would certainly be more convenient to allow the clients to take care of it themselves. Thanks in advance. -Stanley

Hello, I have a database that is deployed with Filemaker Server and I want to actually go back in and add some global fields to a preference panel so that the user can change their address and logo and it will show through the solution. I can add the global fields when I'm working on the solution remotely but they just save as local globals and do not affect other users. My question: Do I have to go into the Filemaker Server/Data/Databases/ file unlock that file, open it directly, in order for my global fields to be considered original? Thanks!

I'm having a quirky problem with FM9: In one particular file: It's a file I use to print off barcoded labels, which are run incrementally in a series of 800. So we know which set was run last, we've made a message field that records the last number we printed, so we don't duplicate. On occasion (like with today's batch, I haven't printed these since 1-3-2008), everything functions correctly while I have the file open. When I close the file and re-open, all data from today is gone and it reverts back to 1-3-2008 for my message and numbers. Why wouldn't it be saving any of the new data I'm putting in?

Hello. Im using FM Server 9.0.2.151 on a windows 2003 machine and my clients are PCs on WinXPSP2 with Filemaker 8.5v1. On one of our databases when a client wants to type text into a simple textarea field (one with a small vertical scrolly bar) the typing is excruciatingly slow as in one character a second(!). You haveto type ahead and wait ages for the text to appear. In a normal text field beside it it is nice and fast. This is on a pentium 3 900Mhz with 512MB Ram thats not doing anything else (I checked the processes). FM Client cache I tried at 8 and 20MB no change. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

Hi! I have created a script that runs fine when I run it from a Filemaker client. Now I want it to run directly from the Filemaker Server Advanced. The script reads from a table and goes to layouts that is based on MySQL tables. There it is suppose to do updates live to our MySQL database but when I add the script to the sceduler on my Filemaker Server and it runs it does nothing. Can this be done?

Hi All - Still trialing server - sorry this is such a basis question. Is there any way to activate IWP for a specific file once it is served on a remote computer. When I access the file via remote no specific files are shown in the list and Server Admin doesnt seem to have an options to activate IWP for a particular file.

Hi all, We are in a the process of setting up the Filemaker 9 server, and we have been able to login in using the fm_console account normally. However, in one of the console login setting, it allows member of the "fmsadmin" to login using the console also. This setting is enabled, and the account group was created on the local computer. None of the member in the "fmsadmin" group was able to log in. Did anybody have the same problem? Any suggestion is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm hosting several databases with Server 7, all of which reside on my workstation. My problem is that when I go to "Open Remote File" in Filemaker Pro 8.5, they don't show under "Available Files" when I select the host. The host shows up fine, and the FM_Server_Sample shows up and opens fine, but the two files which I have in the same directory don't show up. They ARE listed under "Databases" > "Files" in Filemaker Server Admin. Any help with this would be much appreciated!

I have FileMaker Server 9 running on Leopard Server. I am trying to relocate my backup folder to an external drive. I know that, in order for it to be a valid address "fmsadmin" or "fmadin" has to be have read/write access to the directory I choose. This was easy to do in Tiger, but I'm not so sure how to do it in Leopard Server. Do I add "fmsadmin" as a user in the Workgroup Admin? Mark

Hi all I have noticed that my Admin console shows my master machine as localhost even when I load the admin console on another mac and look at the Master machine. If I go to the test page, it puts in localhost rather than the IP number of the machine .. the example images show an IP number, what am I doing wrong? Is there any reason why FM Server 8 should not see an external drive as a valid path for a scheduled backup? I am trying to set up a scheduled backup in FMServer 8 to a mounted external drive (windows) from a server (OSX) using the path: filemac:/Mounted Volume Name/Backup Folder/ but I can't stop it showing "Not a valid path".

I have written a web form which is being sent to a FM Server 9 DB which is running via IWP. My question is: What is the best way to secure the data? I turned off Guest and then I needed a password to send the form. This is an option, but not my favourite, as some of the participants in the survey may be young. I then created a privilege set for Guest that allows them to read only. This setting means they don't need a password to POST, but they can still see the data. As the data contains email addresses, I would prefer this were not the case. This is driving me crazy, and I can't figure it out or find info on it. It seems like in Server 8 there was a way to hide a database from showing up in the Open Remote list. You could still host the database, but it wasn't listed to users. How do I do it with 9?

Currently I only have a few people that need to access my FM8 database hosted on my powerbook. I find IWP to be very clunky and am tempted to buy my employees their own copies of FM so that they can have smooth seamless use of my DB. I'm curious if I am alone in thinking that IWP is not the best solution and wonder why I can't buy a $100 data entry client FM (Bento is less than $100 so why not develop software similar that can read FM DB's?). I was not aware, when I purchased FM, that runtime solutions have embedded DB's and cannot be "shared". I have a batch script with the command: copy /Y "C:Program FilesFileMakerFileMaker ServerDataBackups*.fp7" Q:Backups If I run the batch script while logged in as Admin by double clicking it all of my FileMaker databases in Backup on the local drive are copied to Backup on the mapped drive Q. I have a schedule programmed in FileMaker server to run this batch script at a set time. The admin console claims that the script is run without errors. When I check the backup folder it did none of the backups it was supposed to do. Why will the script run when I double click it but not when FileMaker Server tells it to? Thank you for your help.
