I can't figure this out. How can I turn the selections made in a check box field into a sentence. For instance in a field I call "Flooring" I check off hardwood, ceramic and carpet and shows up in another filed as "Flooring is hardwood, ceramic and carpet".

Ok, I have a Indexed Text field that I want to keep the user from modifying. So I went to field behavior and unchecked allow entry in browse mode. But I want the user to be able to copy the contents of the field, so I created a copy button specifying that field. But copy button wont work if it cant go to that field. Tried several work arounds like creating an unstored calc field that would hide behind the copy button..lol But, not a real answer to the problem. Also, there is no validation on this particular field, and only want to lock this one field down, not the entire record or layout.

I have two databases - a mailing database (contains the number of pieces in a mailing) and a donations database (contains the number of donations received from each mailing). I want to be able to calculate my response rate from each mailing. In the donations database, I track each donation in a field called "Amount". Hi All, Newbie Question: I have three tables, that are not related. I have created layouts for each. Two of the tables work fine, the third one when I'm in browse mode and select "Record / New Record" I can enter the first record, but when I add the second record it allows me to enter the data but there is still only one field. It does not create a new field, any idea what I have forgot to do? Also when in Layout mode with this third Layout, the "Layout Part Labels" Header, Body and Footer are arranged Horizontally and not vertical. Is there a way to flip the Labels vertically? I have a problem with FileMaker 8.5 in label layout mode. The preset labels for Avery, Dymo labels etc are not installed. How can I get them installed? The installation disk does not seem to have seperate folders for labels which I could use for a copy and paste operation into the programme folder.

Hi Guys, I've downloaded the web viewer charting example from the ileMaker website (resources). This comes with a shockwave, hrml and a filemaker example file. As far as the documentation goes, they all need to be stored in one folder. If I wanted to host teh file on a network, where on earth would I place the shockwave and html files? Would I need to make any alterations to the database to get it to work like file references?

It appears to me that the way to use FMP generated HTML within an IWP web viewer is to use the "data:/about:" trick. This has been working great for me, until I needed to show an image in the viewer. I'd like the web viewer to reference a local image AND have this work within IWP. I'm guessing that using src="file:/// won't work and I'd rather not store the images on a separate web server. So I'd like to make a container field and use imagemac: to reference the file in the file system, then load that image into the web viewer in a way that works in IWP. Has anyone accomplished this, and if so, how?

Hi All, I came across this problem last week. Under the FORMAT Menu, there is a USE System Format right at the bottom of the menu. On some other installations, e.g. Win XP Home & XP Pro, some of them have that option and some don't, thus the user cannot switch the System Format on/off. All the users using the FM trial version. Is this a FM bug or Microsoft bug, or am I missing something here? On my Mac OS X version, everything is there! What gives? Help, somebody?

Hello, I am trying to create a list of checkboxes. I have a value list with 5 entrys each seperated with a carrige return. My field's control style is set to display as checkbox set and is set to display values from my valuelist. Now the field in question does display the selection properly however the checkboxes are not selectable in browse mode. They are there because when I "Click & Hold" where they should be I do get the outline of a checkbox they just dont display as selected or unselected. Any idea what I may have done wrong? i have a layout with a portal.The layout takes the records from its own table and the portal from a related table.The problem is that one record from the portal is like a ghost.The row of the record in the portal is blank i cannot delete it,i cant change it,and i cant see it.But if i click it it sends me to the related record in another layout which is blank too.I don't know if it's a bug of filemaker or something else.Please if you have any sugestions i would like to hear it.

I am trying to print files in A4. However everytime I open any record it defaults back to Letter size paper. When I print it prints on 2 pages. If I manually change the paper size to A4 every time in Print setup it will print properly. How can I remove the letter size and change the default paper size to A4 (8.5 x 11) I have been trying to solve this problem for over 6 months now. Driving me mad!

Hi, I have a customer order data base. I have a layout for printing labels showing customer info and product info. I need to print a label for each product ordered by a customer. For example: If they ordered 6 apples and 2 oranges, I need to print 6 apple labels and 2 orange labels with the customer name on and product info on them. What steps do I need to take in order to do this? Hello, I've created an inventory database and I've come up against a problem with my portals. What I've done is set up 3 tables, Supplies, Ordering, and Inventory. I've combined all three of these tables into one layout using tabs. The layout header shows the Supply table, and the layout has 2 tabs, ordering and inventory. Hi!I am having a problem with a calculation not working with the layout I need it to work on. I have 2 tables, Player, and Financial. There is a second instance of Financial called "Enter Financial". i have a problem that is probably very simple to solve. i am copying data from one portal (in one layout) to another portal (same table - different layout). i am using a looping script which copies from 'portal row 1' and pastes to other 'portal row 1' and then moves onto portal row 2 and so on. the way i move to each consecutive portal row is through a calculation and a counter which increases by 1 at the end of each loop step. i cannot however get the loop to end or exit after the last portal row (i cannot use <<next, exit after last>> since this always takes me back to the first portal row when i change layouts. please be so kind as to help out.

Say in list view you have a field 3 inches wide, is there a simple way or a trick to determine the max characters it will hold while in layout mode to create a calculation field using the left function? I realize this is font and font size dependant. Yes to get what I needed I typed in some test data of 1 2 3 4 5...etc and counted until it wrapped. But to do that for each field...you get the picture I assume. But I have a layout where the field could contain a few characters up to a really long input. B) I have just loaded FileMaker Pro 8.5 and find that the custom label option is greyed out. I met this problem way back in V5.5. The solution then was to manually copy the labels folder from the installation disk to the programme folder on my hard drive. I've tried this with 8.5 and it doesn't work. I'd like a button in a portal row to take me that record. The portal rows display partial information from unique records with unique IDs. The unique IDs are displayed within the portal roows. I've placed a button triggering "show related" in the portal, but it doesn't work. I set up a test by changing the script to go to a field in that is displayed in the portal, but the button instead only selects that feld in the parent layout. Is there a simple way I can set up a button within a portal to display the record in the particular row that the button is displayed in?

The print preview of the labels looks fine but when I print it it breaks some lines in the middle and inserts the end of these in a new line like so. Hello, The database I am working on now contains information for our gallery items. Each gallery item belongs to a specific collection, which is usually named after the donor. What I want to do is run a report where I can get the subtotal of each collection, and then a grand total of all the collections added together, so that at any given time I can tell what each collection is worth, and what our total collection value is. Hello, I have a sub-summary part used in a layout that works fine in the preview mode. This is an invoice application and each invoice has several items/per invoice. If I use the browse mode each item is a record rather than in preview each invoice is a record. Consequently, to delete something in the browse mode would require deleting every item on an individual invoice. Hi I am trying to find a clever way of allowing a user to select from a list, multiple products, these will then be entered into a quote automatically for them. I have scripted this and it works well, but my problem is that the product list is available to all users, the box that is checked in each product record is a normal field and therefore two users could be checking (or unchecking) these fields if they were both trying to prepare a quote at the same time. It seems like a simple answer but I can't see it. I have a database with Companies, People and Services, various details and invoices. There is a portal in Companies layout that shows serviceIDs plus performed by that company, 30,000+ records. How can I get a view of the portal that isn't filtered by company? I have tried to Insert Object into a container field but can't get it to work. I am using XP-SP2 and FM 8.5 Advanced. I create the container field an then Insert Object, Create from File, file is C:test.doc, Select Display as Icon, select Icon, click OK. I do not get an Icon I only get the words "Microsoft Word Document" displayed in the container. If I double click on it it will open the correct document but only in Layout mode not in Browse mode. I use a FM database to keep track of sales where I work. I also do the billing, and use an invoice template I created myself. On this template, there's a repeating field, "Item Description" where the items' names go. I can enter up to 20 items on one invoice. I don't know how to report this data. I keep running into problems because of the repeating value fields. What I've ended up doing is importing the records into another similar file. I have a db with lets say 12 fields on my layout (old db)…I then make an update to the db and add 2 new fields to the layout (new db). I now need to update the new db with data from the old one. I've got a relationship set up between Students and Enrollments. I have a layout in the Student table with a portal to Enrollments. The portal is set to show Class, Class URL, and Password. Seems pretty straightforward, but the first record is the only one that shows all the data. Right now I have a fairly well developed database and I'm looking for a better alternative for one specific field. Currently I'm using one field inside each record where I type and keep track of assignment percentages. ie; Record 1 Percentage Assignment Field John Doe 25% Mary Two 25% Mike Little 50% All these names and percentages are in one field just typed out like shown. When using a value that gets the values from two existing fields is it possible to have the field that is a pop up menu showing the values display both values after selection. Right now I have a pop up menu and when selected it shows both fields values side by side. When I release the mouse to chose a selection the field only displays the first fields value. Any way to show both values after selection is made?

On the main layout of my database I have a printer icon that is clicked on to print. Is there a way to create some type of popup menu or selection menu that appears with print options to choose from then either the mouse hovers over the icon or the icon is clicked? Hi I am stuck here. I have a few nice layouts for my database... in the header area I created buttons (New, Delete, Search, Show all) and tabs (to switch between layouts) to make it easy for the people in my office to use. However, the buttons seem to print when I go to print a record. Is there anyway to have my buttons and tabs on screen and then NOT have them show up when printing? I imagine there must be a way to NOT have the info in the header to print? I hope its just a matter of me not being able to find it. Jared

The attached script yields absolutely nothing in the dialog when executed. The valuelist is correctly named and the user has [full privileges]. I cannot see what is wrong. The Valuelist in question is based on a field showing only related values, but even when I change it to a valuelist containing only custom values I still get nothing. I have a database which consists of 3 tabs. Each tab's content is visible to the login assigned to it. ie Person 1 can only see the contents of Tab 1 Person 2 can only see the contents of Tab 2 Person 3 can only see the contents of Tab 3 I have that working fine. The problem I'm having is, that when person 1 or person 2 scrolls through a record, tab 2 is focused. Is there any way that I can set it so that Tab 1 is always focused to Person 1 after they log in?

For some reason, Internet Explorer (6 & 7 both) are suddenly refusing to access PDF files that are stored in a container field. When you click on the PDF hyperlink, you get an error message stating "Internet Explorer cannot download data.file from servername.domain.edu". On the other hand, Firefox works perfectly well; you can't view the PDF in the browser, but it still lets you save the file to your PC. Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening? IE didn't used to do this.

I'm trying to get a graphic element (arrow) into a container field (gSortSeqFlagAsc), but I need the container field to have a transparent background. The graphic is native FMP lines grouped together, but when I copy it to paste into the container, I get a rectangular shape with a non-transparent background. I cannot figure out how to do this. Hello all, I have a large layout in filemaker that has around 2 million records. I often use this layout to search for particular weeks and items using the find mode. Is there a way I can add something to the laout that would give total for a search? i.e. If I search for week 20, I would like a total for each feild (total sales, total units) for that one week (or however else I filtered the data. Does anyone know about cross platform font issues? In particular I am using Verdana, which is a completely cross-platform font. FINDINGS: When using sizes under 10 - fonts are fuzzy. Radio boxes are in different possitions when using the applicaiton cross platform. Also... I have seen someone use the "Use System Formats", which is a US/UK format reset. However when set on a text field it smoothes the fonts. Does anyone have any Ideas on how to use this, when it gets greyed out.

Hello, I am trying to create a field where I can have only a single check box. I see where I can create check box and radio button SETS but I dont want a set. I want a single check box that I can either check (if its true) or not check (if its false) for example the database I am building is to keep track of my electrical motors. Some have Space Heaters some dont so I wanta field called "Space HTRS" and I want a single check box that I can either leave blank if it doesnt have a space heater or put a check in if it does. I've got a problem that keeps popping us as I work on redesigning some of my layouts using FileMaker Tabs. I design the layouts on a Mac and put colored FileMaker buttons with the title of the tab in them over the active title tab to help the user identify just which tab they are in. I then move the files over to my Windows Server 2003 machine to test them out there and I find a lot of the tab covers no longer cover the tabs so I adjust them there adding a pixel or two to their width and maybe move them over side to side to get them to line up again. Here's the deal. We are Landscape Architects and use FM to run the office. And one of the solutions is called 'Plant Data Base'. Within PDB there is a layout called 'Plant List' which is, of course, a list of specified plants for a particular project. We print this list to PDF and then we paste it into our drawings set. each sheet in this set is the normal architectural size, 24" x 26". The plant list is simply placed on the appropriate page. A few years ago I was quite proficient in setting up basic databases in FM 3 for the Mac. As I recall, to move a field or its label in layout mode, all I had to do was click and drag. I haven't used FM in a while but needed to make a db now, and still have FM3 but using it on newer macs. It runs in the old OS 9. NOW when I click and drag on a field or label in layout mode, it duplicates the selection and moves the duplicate--though not exactly to where I put it. I want to check positive responses to a long list of symptoms as they are asked and then have only the checked items appear in a separate text field in paragraph form. I would like to add the results of other lists to the same text field. Can anyone help… Background: I have a plain text file on a server that is updated regularly by a datalogger (it can't be altered in any way) & I want to read the last line (I can work that out). The FileMaker file is going to be IWP.
