FileMaker Plug-Ins

I thought I saw a plugin somewhere once that allowed you to make a solution lockable... for the purpose of selling it as shareware and sending an unlock code to buyer. Was I dreaming? In any case, how might this be done? I've got a couple of apps in the making that might be marketable that way... as runtimes. I've got a huntch there's a way to make the security features work this way, but I haven't figured out how yet.

Hello, I have some problems with printing in FM8, my program always lost print configuration, and by the way, the printer (because this computer have to print on 2 printer)... Hi all, I'm trying to figure out a way to get around something that FileMaker 8 Dev on Mac OS 10.4 doesn't seem to like at all. Here's the scenario: I'm using Troi File Dialog Plug-in to show a dialog with Popups. The Popups get their values from Value Lists in the file. I'd like to add a hyphen or a space at the end of the Popup values so that if a user selects an incorrect value, and the correct answer isn't in the list, then he/she can nullify the input. Is anyone interested in creating, then sharing an API (Plug-in) to access .Mac accounts through FileMaker? There's a free .mac SDK available at Apple's developer site (you must be a member to download it). The idea would be to be able to export files from FileMaker and have them posted on the members .Mac Web page. Also the ability to backup exported files to their iDisk. Thank you, Mitch

Does anyone know of a plugin that will allow me to populate pdf forms using only adobe acrobat reader? I would much rather use a plugin than re-design these forms from scratch.

I am using FTPit 1.5.5 . It is taking about 1 min per 10mb when I use the Put command (External ( "doFTP-Put"; Files::tFile_Name )). When I connect to the same site using Fetch or any other FTP app it only takes about 2-3 seconds per 10mb when uploading. Has anyone else had the same problem. Thanks Brian

Ack! A Mac user in a PC world. Anyway - Win XP with FM6 and FM8 installed. The only PlugIn I am able to see in either of 6 or 8 is the AutoUpdate - no web companion, no PCFPBiometric - that's the one I want to use. I know I'm getting them into the correct directory becuase I can remove FMSAUC plugin and the AutoUpdate plugin vanishes [after restart FMP] - put it back in and there it is. Any ideas why the other PlugIns do not show up?

Hello, my company bought smtpit pro plugin to solve the email problem, my SMTPit Pro is registered. But now when i try to email using iwp, i got this error when i click 'send', it works fine when i am using filemaker client. "Added Tos: [email protected] Added to Subject: vista ERROR: Send: Connect: Could not resolve Host Name to IP Address. WinSock Error: 11004; No Data" I can't send mail with iwp! Hello, I am having trouble opening a file with a given application. For example, if I wanted to open a database with FileMaker, I would use this command: >"C:Program FilesFileMakerFileMaker Pro 8FileMaker Pro.exe" "C:pathtodesktopexample.fp7" This works via the actual command line but not with the shell plugin. I even used the Quote function to deal with spaces in the paths. I get the following error: 'C:Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command, ..." Any ideas? Regards, Sean

well i had troi activator...and i liscense for it...and it worked...it was great... i moved my file to a server so it could be shared through out my company....and now the activator doesn't activate... has anyone else experienced this or know what i may have done wrong...please help

I’m using a demo of SecureFM 7 This is the Calculation that I am using NPR::Multi =1 & External("Menu-PerformScript"; "new test") My form is set up in this order Qty: Part# Unit: Multi Form: Change up Description: When I start to enter data I can enter the Qty, then when tabbing to the Part# Field it triggers the script (new test), then when I tab to the Multi form field it will trigger the script (new test) as soon as the field is entered. Hello, I have been experiencing problems with loading plug-ins to my mac... here's the situation. I'm trying to use SMTPit Pro and could successfully install the plug in to my FMP7v3 on powerbook G4 running Tiger (10.4.4). I want to also install this plugin to my server under 10.2.8 running FMP7v3 but the plugin won't load. I've followed the instructions, but does anyone know how to fix this? thank you in advance!

I have run this filemaker app for years on filemaker 5, we just upgraded to Osx(tiger) and migrated to Filemaker 7. The conversion worked very well, but now my host machine crashes every morning before anyone goes to use it. The host and Filemaker are left up and running 24 hours a day. During the night no one access it and it is not scheduled to do anything. Smtpit only runs when a script is run manually. Every morning I get a filemaker has unexpectadly quit message and a rather lengthy report. Thread 3 has always crashed and it seems to be related to Smtpit. Has anyone else seen this kind of problem?

I recently installed SMTPit Pro plug-in, and when I tried out the example files that comes with SMTPit Pro, there is this message "QuickTime and a none decompressor are needed to view this picture" displayed right in the middle of every screen. I asked CNS about the problem, screen shot was emailed to CNS, but they couldn't resolve it and suggested that I referred the matter to FileMaker, having sent a number of emails to FileMaker, their support so far has been hopeless. I have a script that runs nightly at 12:00am. I managed to get the script working. Only problem is that I have to always set the script on the next day to be ready to run at midnite. I am wondering if I should remove the "-AddSingleEvent" switch from the Actr-ScheduleEvent script step. I am hoping to be able to 'set it and forget it.' I am referring to page 11 of the Troi Activaor guidedocs, but the is no explanation for repeating events. Thanks

Are there any plugins that someone knows of to take an exported text file and then zip it without needing to go to a separate app eg winzip? I am daily exporting text files each of which can be up to 100mb ... average per day is 300-400 mb of data to be sent which can be zipped down to between 5 and 10 mb for FTP purposes. I am currently using TroiFile to take an exported text file, substitute field separators and then rename and move it to a storage folder. What i would really like to add is an automated zipping of each file so that it is then ready for FTP to the external site over the internet... any ideas??? I'm running FM8 Advanced on a Mac. A plug-in a friend is developing loads on my laptop but not on my iMac. I've swapped extension folders as well as thrown out my preference folder, all to no avail. Any ideas? Other plug-ins that I've purchased load ok.

I am building a solution, which needs to show the first page of a pdf file as a thumbnail preview in a container field in fm8. It works perfectly on Mac OS X, since the OS supports pdf. But the hazzle is that it need to run on windows. Quicktime does not support pdf on windows and I have tried CNS image and Troi file plugins. The files is approx. 50 MB, so it would be preferable to link to the file, rather than importing it to fm. Maybe what I am looking for is a way to grab a thumbnail and then put it in a container field. Does anyone have suggestions to how this can be done ?? (...yes I know.... Why don't everyone just work on Mac ??)

Hi I allso have this problem. Some Plugins, eg. shell.fmplugin (ver.1.1 won't load while vers. 1.0 loads fine) or FilemakerSkype.fmplugin won't load. Troi plugins loads fine, allso the old ones. My system is Mac OS X 10.4.4 I have tested in fm7 - fm7 developer - fm8 - fm8 advanced. Same result in all 4 versions. Does anyone have a clue ??

there is a peice of my database that uses the troi activator plug in, and it works pretty well and i get the end result i want. all though the end result is correct i wouldn't mind the begining be a bit smoother. right now my script triggers "when the field is exited" and that is only part true, if i leave the feild and go to another, i.e. tab control is set to jump to the next feild once a selection from a drop down is made, or i just click the next feild the script won't trigger, but instead i have to click out side of the feilds or hit return, is there any smoother way that as soon as the feild is left, not when the record is committed that i can trigger the scrip…

Here is one for those that have used the EventScript Plugin (Gaston Forgues: softs4humans.com). Have you ever encountered an instance where Field B needs to be a calculated value for lets say something like Field B = Left (Field A; 2). This needs to be with the option of, 'Do not replace' checked. However, then the user needs to change Field B because he does not want the default value set. So they change it via a pull down menu. Working on creating my own Plug-in here, wondering if anayone has any experience using the Java Companion to make the plug ins. I think i'm getting the jest of things but I want to make sure I can do what I'm trying to do before I get to in depth into this. I using a layout that uses several windows and some people physically move the windows rather than use the navigation buttons. Is there a plug in that will stop these people from moving the windows? I'm using FM 6. Thanks Mike

I have a database that uses EventScript from Softwares for Humans (http://www.softs4humans.com/FMPro_Plugins.html) to create a new record after data is entered into a particular field. The database is an inventory database that I use a barcode scanner with. The problem is that the database is slow to create the new record for the next scan, making the person scanning either have to slow down and wait for the database, or miss a few items because the database can't keep up. Does anyone have experience using Events4.0 to trigger an email? I'm trying to use it to trigger an email on field exit and it only works on a few fields. I've compared the fields it works on, and they don't seem to have much in common so I can't figure out why they work and others dont! Does anyone know of other email plug in options? thanks!

I want to use the SetAttachment step in Smtpit Pro. The reason why we have never used it in previous versions of fm is that our server has a limit of 1 MB size. If I let users attach their own files, is there a way to check the size of the combined attachments? I don't see a function in the plug-in. I thought about attaching the files through a container field in filemaker but there is only Get(filesize) no Get(fieldsize). Any suggestions? Thanks much, marcelle

I want to create windows shortcuts to certain folders on the server. I use trio plugin to create folders but I would like to create a folder of shortcuts (I've asked Trio and its working progress). I am not sure if this is the correct forum, so please let me know if it is not. I am looking at getting Easy Accounting with Filemaker Pro. It is published by David Haney. I asked him for references, but he would give none. Does anyone know if his software is legit? Is it worth the $2500 plus $200 for the master password and for tech support. I have the demo version of the new Troi file plugin. Although it is for FM7, I want to use it in FM8 advanced. However, I have found a slight problem. The files that I want to import are user files from a DNA sequence program. They appear to be text files, as I can open them with Text Edit. Yet, Troi file will not allow me to select them (they are greyed-out in the dialog box. Any ideas? Charlie

Howdy all, I have an FM8 client with Server 7. I have a plugin set to autoupdate without a problem (Troi File Plugin). But I'm now trying to do the same with EventScript. It's in a tar file. When it downloads to the mac client, I end up with an empty FOLDER called EventScript.fmplugin, not a plugin file. Anyone seen this before? I'm stumped. Thanks, Jeff

We have FM7 and FM7 Server Advanced. Since we are moving to vs. 8, we purchased 3 additional clients in vs. 8 (because of hiring new people) and I didn't want to purchase 7 then have to upgrade them. We also use SecureFM with Menu Magic for lockdown and removal of menus, event triggers, etc. But SecureFM for 8 isn't out and I was told simply that it would be 'available soon.' And SecureFM for 7 doesn't run on 8! Yes, I should have tested it but I didn't think of it. We are therefore short on licensed copies until SecureFM for 8 is available and we now have 3 new Sales Reps sitting with nothing to do! This is very, very bad. I thought planning ahead for our …

I have about 20 Java .class files that I am currently using to do various tasks outside of filemaker. Does anyone know if its possible to compile these into a plug in? This question is similar to Post #149142 .I'd like to use Troi File plug-in to move a file from one location to another without having to retype the file name in the dialog box (2nd dialog that appears) where one chooses the destination of the file. I can't find any way to do this and I'm having a hard time believing that the plug-in doesn't have a feature that would automatically put the file's name into the "Field name:" field in the "Select Folder" dialog I referred to above. hello, I have a repeating field that is 20 lines. I display 10 lines on my layout and have a scroll bar to scroll down to the rest of the lines. My problem is when I print, I only get what is displayed on the screen...the bottom part does not print out. Can someone help me?...thanks, Denis

I just bought Troi's File Plug-in and I can't figure out a way to get it to do something I had thought it was capable of doing. I'd like to get the "properties" data from a file...like Title, Subject, Keywords, Comments, etc., that are found in a number of text documents, image files, PowerPoint docs, etc. Is it possible? Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on using eventscript. I have returned to the sample files at least 5 times and spent time trying to work out what to do but I just cannot get my head around it. ... at least on MacOS X 10.3.9, FMP 8.0v1. Install the plug-in, then open the sample file that comes with EventScript. Modify the price of the item but instead of exiting the field, close the window or quit FMP. Now open the file again: the price has been changed, but the script never ran. I can see great uses for this, but not to enforce business rules or provide security. That's what field-level validation and access privileges are for. Anything else is just painted lines on the ground.

hi everyone, I am using eventscript. I have a pop up window to allow entry into a number of fields (more than a custom dialog box would allow) and a "done" button that closes the window. the fields have an eventscript attached to them. If the user tabs out of the fields the script triggers, but if the user changes a field and clicks on the done button without exiting the field, then the window closes and the script is run from the wrong layout. How can I either prevent the user from clicking the button while still in a field or work around it. this is driving me nuts Thanks in advance

I am running FM Server 5.5 and FM Pro 6. Where can I find the remote server administration plug-in. It is not on the install CD for either Server 5.5 or FM Pro 6. I also have developer 5.5 and it is not on that install CD either. I looked on the FM web site but could not find it there either. I'm sure I just over looked it somewhere. Can anyone help? Thanks.

IM function/plugin that will play alert sound on network without affection other user screens--activator does not seem to work. I have a networked office program that visually alerts everyone that another computer or exam room is ready for the doctor. I would like a sound to also play to notify everyone of the change in status. I have tried the activator plugin. However, I do not want to disturb the screen of the other networked computers as the sound is played. I downloaded the MeunControl plugin from dacons.net, and installed the plugin and opened the example file Quick Start.fp7. When I tested the plugin's functions, the windows security alert pop-ups and asks "do you want to keep blocking this program?" Is this plugin is a spyware?

I can't get this darn plug in to do anything! I desperately need a plug in that will allow me to script in different printers as well as printing to acrobat distiller w/ no user input. I found FM Webschool's plug in and was excited that this would solve my problems. However I have been unable to get it to work and have had no luck with FM Webschool's tech support. I've got to completely redo the FileMaker work on a client's PC which needs to do the following: print on two printers, fax and email. I set the system up such a long time ago that I can't remember what I used to get it to switch between all this, and am thinking of using the Change Printer plug-in. Anybody have any feedback on this item? Or anything else that does the trick? It's a Win 98 machine running FMP 5.5 on an FMServer network. The printers are Epson FX-880 and Dymo LabelWriter 330. Hi all, I'm having trouble integrating Launchit with our current setup. I have created a new table called "documents", adapted all of the scripts and set up a portal in my projects window. I have linked the documents table with the projects table with the project id as a foreign key. Still, when I click on the add file or add folder icon in my portal, the script launches, but after I select the folder or file in the dialog, I am brought to a new project entry screen and nothing is in the portal. I am looking for the best plugin to control the FM menus and I was wondering if anybody has ever used this Link It looks like it is capable of presenting a very profesional looking application and manage the menus. Unlimited license is on par with one of the other major menu control plugins and far cheaper than the other. I can't seam to find any reference to compatibility with FM7 though. Any thoughts?

hi, i've been playing with the outlook manipulator plugin for the last few days. it's great, but there's one thing i can see being a problem... when running a script to import emails into filemaker, i have to specify to allow access in outlook for a period of time - 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes. is there a way of removing this, ie, to always allow access? i've had a look in outlook, but haven't found the option. i don't have an exchange server, just a pop account. i've sent an email to support @ productive computing, but thought i would try here as well, in case you guys had any ideas. thx, jd.

Is it possible for FMP 7 and Microsoft Outlook 2003 to work together so that when a contact is added to outlook it is also added to a FMP 7 table?

hi all, i'm setting up the outlook manipulator, and i'm currently trying to use the movemail step. the script i've setup for it, doesn't work 100%. if for example i have 4 emails in my inbox, it will move 3 out of 4 to a different folder. and won't copy the last one into filemaker either. (although it's not necessarily the first, or last email in my inbox). i also get an error message at that point saying it is unable to move the mail. i've attached a copy of the script in case you have any ideas. any help would be appreciated. thanks, jd.

I'm very new to the use of plugins. I need to trigger an import records script, on a nightly basis. I know Troi Activator and Events will do the job. I had heard that FMP7 allows for server based plugins. Has anyone come up with one or do I need to rely on having a dedicated machine on all of the time? Also, for those of us new to plugins which is easier to configure - Activator or Events?

Okay, so the clent ended up opting for ProPrint from Afeina as a way to switch between printers on one Win98 box (FM 5.5, running off FMServer) and now one printer almost always throws this strange "cyclical redundancy error" from the print folder. I'm a Mac guy, not a Windows guy, so I may be missing something obvious, but it seems that the error is in ProPrint and/or FileMaker, as the printer works fine in any other setting, and printing from the File menu works, too. Any suggestions? -Stanley

I am currently using Troi Activator to run a script every minute. That script will check a calculation field and if the value is "Yes", the plug in will remotely trigger a script on another computer. It works fine UNTIL the screensaver comes up on the computer with the plug in and running the main script (that checks the calculated field). Is this a filemaker problem or a plug in problem?

SMTPit-Send function returns "Success" when : - the destination address has an unknown DNS. e.g. [email protected] - the destination address has an unknown user. e.g. [email protected] Does anyone known why ? Can anyone recommend a good charting plug-in or add on for Filemaker 7 Server that will allow me to semi-easily create vertical bar graphs from 3-4 values? In Filemaker 5, I was using the oAzium charts plugin with great success. However, they're not revamping a version for FP7 and trying to run the oAzium plugin for FP5 on FP7 Server Advanced is causing my server to crash. Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks.....

How to do an iterative export into one file Context: Database of prescriptions. Random selection from entire database produce a set of prescriptions for export. Repeat times the number of students.
