FileMaker Server v7 - v11

Discussing issues with Server version 7 - 11 ( .fp7)

HI y'all Solved the username password...if you had never used user name in your file leave it blank, then log in with your password- it will work. Sever has OS X 10.3.7 FMP sever 7.0v2 and also FMP 7 is loaded on a iMac. I am puzzled. I converted all the files from FMP5 to FMP7 by opening and saving them in FMP 7. Made sure the files network sharing -on, specify user by Privilege set -on Moved the files on the FMP server7 as directed. I can't see the files at all from other locations. Even through the FMP 7 installed on the server. I did notice the file status lable all the files as "closed". Tried to "open" them under action..but they will open and close …

We have a database with 2 tables in it and over the weekend one of the tables lost all data in all fields in all records. The records themselves are still there, they are just empty. The client is running FMServer 7.0v2 on a G5 machine and FMP 7.0v3 on a mix of OS 10.2.8 and Windows XP machines. Restarting the server didn't do anything. No other databases appear to be affected and the server did not crash. The data was there on Friday afternoon and gone on Monday morning. Nobody was working on the specific file over the weekend and only administrators have deletion ability. Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea why it happend? This is a pretty seriou…

  10. Hi, The databases are under the Filemaker Server 7. I am trying to export the data to the file and send it as attachment to the Send Mail script. But when I use the relative path for Export and Send Mail script, the file is not going to be attached to the email. Macintosh and PC users are accessing the databases. Is there a way to send the mail with attachment correctly without adding each user's specific directory to the path ? Thanks.

So I use the nifty CDML/XML converter with ran without any problems. Then I took the .xls documents and put them in the apache web server directory. 16. Yikes! I'm about eight hours into the install of FM7 Advanced and am still having problems. Here's the short question: Why aren't my published databases showing in the "FileMaker Server Web Publishing Administration Console?" The longer explanation of the question follows. Overview: XServe running OS X server 10.3.7 -- FM7 Server Advanced installed (OK) -- attempting to connect to Lasso. After two hours on the phone with Lasso Tech, trying to figure out why Lasso couldn't see the published databases from FM7SA -- the most likely culprit seems to be showing itself in the "FileMaker Server Web Publishing Administration Console." Lately some issues have come up on the ebase phone support and users email lists around a long term installations which now have unexplained crashes. In one I dealt with, the problem seemed related to MFC42.dll This is a standard MS dll (used by most programs written in C using MS C compiler) and no version of it on the machine would even let me even view the version info. The FM problems with abnormal ending and this dll were fixed by replacing the dll with a known good one. Similar issues have been reported associated with the

Hi Guys I have quite a few scripts that rely on storing temp data in global fields (don't we all). Now this all works fine in a single user environment, but what happens when i deploy this using Filemaker Server with multiple users? I'm thinking that my scripts will go all screwy because the global data of one person will be overwritten by that of another. One example is I have a global field that tracks where the user has been in order to provide a 'back' button, i can't see this working in a multi user environment. So I guess unless Filemaker Server takes care of this sortof thing by itself, I need to know how to create a user specific global field, just like…

This may be a ridiculous question, but I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere- my office may want to start running Server rather than continuing with FMP's file sharing capability. All of the computers are running either FMP 5.5 or 6. Can we install Server 7 and have it run these older files, or do we have to get Server 5.5? I've been asked to create a password for the network group to "just read" our database. Wrote some scripts in Applescript to move some import files and another script startup a fp7 file which had an embedded FMP script to do some data imports. Everything worked well for 3-4 days and then poof - nothing. The scripts won't come alive anymore through the FMP Server Scheduler. It may have something to do with permissions changing - but I DID NOT modify anything. The only way the scripts will run - is if I launch them myself. This is a crappy waste of my time - I followed FMP instructions on how to set privilieges for the script folder and the scripts still are quiet. Anybody run into this before?

  43. I currently have a solution with 5-6 different files and I'm trying to find a way to make my app work when all 6 files are served by filemaker server. Can I use relative paths instead of specifying the server/filename or would the files be opened by filemaker pro itself and not served by filemaker server, which could end up causing corruption? I'm worried about my solution being moved to another machine someday with a different ip# and the program basically losing all the table links between the different tables if the links aren't stated as relative.

I see that using Instant Web Publishing within Filemaker Pro limits list view to five records at a time, and table views to 20 records at a time. I'm wondering, will switching over to FM Server or Server Advanced lift those limits? What I've got is an existing database that presents data, for lack of a better description, in sort of a spreadsheet format, with each row being a separate record. It already exists, and I don't want to rebuild it, but the client wants to be able to share it on the web. Being limited to viewing 5 rows at a time won't cut it they need to see maybe 30 or 50 rows at a time. Any input or ideas would be most welcome!

Does this mean FM Server 7 supports ODBC/JDBC on Mac OSX now? Can FileMaker 7 products act as ODBC/JDBC client and/or data source on Mac OS X? FileMaker Pro 7 can be used as an ODBC client. In addition, FileMaker Pro 7 and FileMaker Server 7 Advanced can be used as a JDBC data source on Mac OS X. See the download area to obtain the files necessary to add this functionality to your product. A FileMaker ODBC client driver for the Mac is not yet available. This problem just started yesterday and is getting progressively worse. I have numerous navigation buttons using the "Go to layout" function, where the target layout is designated by layout name. Recently, some of my users have experienced failures with this function. Instead of taking them to the designated layout, it is taking them to the very first layout in the list. I have not changed the layout names and cannot duplicate the problem on my computer. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Using Server 5 and FMP 5.5 - I'm running into issues where one client runs a script to update certain fields and that change may take quite some time to appear on other clients (haven't verified whether it is all clients or just some). In particular, on printing an order I set certain fields to indicate an order has been printed. Errors are written to a log in a separate file just in case, for example, someone is editing an order and has the record locked. I also have a script that prints all 'unprinted' orders. User A can print an order and the fields appear to be set correctly on that client (indicating the order was printed). User B prints all unprinted o…

  67. Help! I have a user who lost their network connection with the Filemaker Pro Server (7). Now, when they try to log back into the database, it refuses saying that someone with that same ID is already logged in. Lo' and behold, the server still shows them logged in to the database. When I try to disconnect them, nothing happens. This happened yesterday, and I ended up having to close all the databases (which took several minutes) and then reopening them. Today I've got multiple folks logged in, and we're working against a deadline. How do I force her off the server, and why did this happen? Thanks!!!

Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere. I searched, but did not find. . . I am using Server 7 Advanced (new user) and I was wondering if one can set the backup feature to do "archive" backups. That is to say, rather than overwriting the backup file each time, can it maintain separate files for each backup, allowing the administrator to return to the database(s) in previous states? If this isn't possible, any recommendations (short of doing it manually) for (semi-) automating such a procedure. (I use Mac OSX). Thanks for ideas!

That's how it's spose'd to work anyway... So, my question - How do I fix this so the time is read from the the server and not the user's machine? HELP! Thank You I. Jones

It would take 7-13 seconds to create a record. During the 7-13 seconds, it sent about 4 megabytes of information. What was it sending? Every unique primary ID of the database to the client... so the client can configure out if the record it made was unique or not... What fixed it? I had to uncheck the check for "Unique" values in the field settings. I think it's rediculous that something as keeping unqiue values is so poorly implemented not to mention poor FM backup implementation. This pro…
