  2. Using FM 6 on Win XP Pro. I've got a portal where users can create records. They select from a drop-down list of ID numbers of people in the database. This ID # field is placed underneath another field that displays the actual name that is related to this id number. When I scroll down the portal, the ID # field is brought to the front making it impossible to see the name field which should be on top. Strangely, this only happens to the portal rows that were visible before I started scrolling. The rows further down the list show up fine as I scroll. If I click on a row where the ID had come to the front, the name comes back to the front, but only for that ro…

    I have a parent file which has a specific unique date field. One record for each date for 2004 I also have a child file which holds info regarding training seminars. These can be over 1 day or several days (upto a week). The child file has "Start Date" and and "End Date" fields. I need a portal that will show any child records for seminars which are active on that particular parent record date. Obviously there are three possibilities - 1) It will start on the parent date 2) continue on the parent date 3) end on the parent date For example if there was a seminar from 12/2/2004 - 15/2/2004 then the seminar details would showe in the portal for all parent …

  5. Hello everyone. Since FileMaker still refuses to give us a good Aqua UI, I'm trying to mimic Aqua controls and elements. I use Interface Builder to create buttons, tabs, etc., then take screen grabs, and edit them in Photoshop. So far so good. I'm having one slight problem, though. Can anyone tell me if FileMaker supports image transperancy? If so, what image format should I use? I've tried importing PNG, GIF, and PICT. Transperancy doesn't seem to work on any of them.     Greetings All, I have a need to populate a single field from either one of two value lists. (I did not want to use one dynamic drop down list) Are there any tricks anyone has used to achieve this effect. Here's how the layout would look: Field |____________| button to drop list 1 button to drop list 2 I can make the two buttons above the same field as the destination, and attach the different value lists to each one, but I can't think of a way to make it look visually appealing and intuitive.     I thought I was dashing off a demo file, but instead have a riddle in the form of a misbehaving file... The idea is to create a portal that shows which records are actually being browsed, keeping up with all sorts of additions/omissions/deletions, etc. I had no success with self-join relations on the promising Status(xxx) functions. But FM gives us ONE potential handle on the identity of the found set: a summary total field can be analyzed to figure out which records are being totaled, provided only that every total is unique.   15. I have a contact database and have finished it so am now onto reports. I simply want a month to date report, which when you indicate the month, it will display on the layout all the done items for that time period. So i created a portal on the layout with a generic x relationship to done items. However, say in January there are 10 done items, that is fine, they appear but then in March when there are no done items the original 10 items from january are still in the portal list. now i get why, but what i want to do is have portal display the current found set of the done items table.     The value list in question derives from a field in another file, and the values in those fields will be frequently edited: more records will be added, others will be deleted, and some will be altered. The problem is that the text field created when a value is selected from the list continues to contain values that no longer appear in the value list itself.     I have a really long list of fee codes (+/- 3500), so a "hotlist" is an obvious necessity. I could just allow users to flag the hotlist items in the "Fees" file and display the flagged fees in the "Invoice" file using a conditional menu, but I'd like to give the users a 'professional' interface to create the hotlist, where they can move codes to and from the hotlist....something along the lines of the FM Sort dialogue box. I've tried a variety of relationships (and even tried writing hotlist entries to another file...) nothing has worked... can a brighter mind suggest a solution? Thanks Dave

Some of the value lists take their data form a related field. Problem: The application works fine, pop-up lists work as they should, until sporadically the following happens: all fields with field format set to 'pop-up list' refuse to show the pop-up list.     O.K. I'm not sure what I've done wrong but my pop lists are blank in find mode. My database makes extensive use of conditional value lists which display custom values in pop-up fields. These all work fine in browse mode but are now blank in find mode. My value lists are based on a relationship with another file where the match field is called "User". Previously the pop up lists would work fine in Find mode as long as I would first enter a value in "User" and then click on the field with the pop-up. Now all of the pop-ups are blank. Any suggestions?

    For each record in my database, there is a billing section. On that section I have a pull down menu with the tweleve months. I want to be able to choose a month and have three fields be filled with information. I want it to display billing information based on the selected month.     I am building an Manufacturing Order Process. I have a Product_order_form.db or order.fp5, and a Product_manufacturing_order_form_5.db or Man5.fp5 (order.fp5 & man5.fp5) What I need to have happen is for the user to be able to enter more than one item with its coresponding data fields on one invoice (order.fp5), but for it to automatically create a manufacturing order (man5.fp5) for each item with its coresponding data fields. i.e., <item_no> <qty> <lot_not> <prod_description> <price>. When I click on a field to display a field value list that was setup for it under Format Field, I can enter te first few characters of the value so that the list will automatically go to the first record containing this value. I.e. I type in "hotdo" and the list will jump to the first value to contain these letters, say "hotdog".     I want to use the portal visibility trick to display (or not) a delete button in a single row portal based on the user's access to that record. I have everything set up and the portal visibility works perfectly however I can't get the button to delete the record I am viewing. If "Allow deletion of portal rows" is checked in the portal setup, the first record in the records I am browsing is deleted. If it is unchecked, nothing is deleted.   37. I am having a seemingly intractable problem with unwanted white space on my layout. I want to print a catalogue of contact information - a very straightforward listinf of names, numes, etc. This is sort by County, and some counties have more than one program to list while some coutnies have only the sentence "There are no programs in this county." The data itself is basic things like names and email, plus one field of"description", which varies considerably in length. Hello, I have noticed that when I use value lists as pull down menus or lists inside of a portal, that when the user goes to make these choices, related record, by related record, the other fields in the entire portal flash...like disapper and reappear. It is not changing the values, but it is a little disturbing when entering information.     i have a portal that's filtered according to two fields. the client number, and the month&year of the jobs. i'm doing some diagmnostic tests, and i noticed that there's a few records from the child file that are making it into the portal but the two match fields don't match. for example, for a portal from december, jobs for a certain client will be from november and december. i need to fix this, but i can't figure out why it's doing this. the relationship seems to be fine, it seems to be that somewhere it's _just_ _not_ _working_. i'm pulling out my hair wondering what it could be, does anyone out there have any ideas??? thanks in advance for any help...…

    I have two files. One contains the main items, the second contains the parts that make up the main items. I want to display the main item (a title field) with a list of the related records (records of subitems) from the second file. Very simple I know, I've done it, but my problem is I don't want any borders or boxes when I print, just the text. I've looked and there doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of the border or black lines around the portal, at least none that I've found. Is there a way around this?

I have attached a value list to CustID, which allows you to select the the CustID and Customer name from the customer file.     Hi, I currently have a portal that shows 4 fields from another database (ie Order Number, Order Type, Product, Biller). I have a global field called g_biller in the database which contains the portal. As I type a different name into the g_biller field, the portal shows the records that belongs to the biller.     Hi All, I'm new here. I just came back from Devcon and had an incredible time. I have a question that I think this is the best place for it. But, its not the ideal one. I'm trying to set up a method to duplicate a record by selecting manually which fields will be duplicated. This should be similar to the Import/Export control panel.     Hi there, I've a db with layout with a field "box" and in each box I've 81 spots where the user can put some biological stuff in it. So, I set up another field with an "external" value list for the 81 spots (in fact a pop up list with simply the numbers). What I would like to do is when the user select a spot number is to eliminate this number from the value list. So, it will be impossible for a particular box to use twice (or more !) the same spot. Everything works great execpt for the receipt. I need to print the receipt on a thermal printer. So, in the CONTACTS file, there would be a portal that shows information from the EVENTS database that allows the user to make choices in the CONTACTS file that would relate to each event.     My project involves printing a report on each transaction, including relevant feedback text from the two most recent *related* transactions. I have been using a portal with two rows to accomplish this. The only problem is that the related field's text entries vary tremendously in length. To accommodate the longest, the portal row is a pretty tall brick, but that means that lots of space is wasted on the portal rows with barely any text.     Database A has a field "full name" based on a case statement that if field (1) is yes, then "first name" & "last name". This works properly. Database B has a field that I want to display a pop up list from the "full name" field of Database A. Relationship is correct, yet I get no list.   66. Hello, I am developing an index of articles for a newspaper. We have allowed that each article can have four subjects, so I have created four subject fields. No subject is more important than any other. Of course most articles have only one or two subjects so that the third and fourth field do not have as many values in it.   67. Quick (hopefully) question: Using a DB in FM5.5, and trying to perform a find on a portal field. The field links to a KEYWORDS database from a main CONTACTS file, and each record can have as many or as few keywords linked as it likes. When I enter find mode, I can enter a single item into the KW portal-field, and the find executes perfectly (finding all parent records with that keyword). However, I cannot (to my knowledge) enter more than one keyword at one time this way, as the portal does not recognize that it "should" create a new portal row, etc. Thus, I cannot execute "AND" finds on this field.   69. Hello all, My details I have a file called Meetings and created a self-join relationship to a file called Mychild. The problem arose when I created a portal in Meetings that went to Mychild. I then created a field in the portal that is Mychild::Title. The field does not show in the portal, I also made the field into a button that would go to the layout Action Items. The button does not work, the field seems invisible. After reading the entry level portal post I thought the problem could be because there is no data in Mychild. Could this be the case?   70. Senerio: Purchase order system using one layout for all departments. This layout has a repeating price field of 75 cells (uses the sliding/printing function). Some departments should not see the pricing entires. Because the font color can not be dynamicly changed (from black to white) I will have to 'mask out' the price fonts from behind using a graphic (similar to a maxicode bar code pattern)in a separate repeating field using the cells as containers. Problem: Setting the background field as a calculation, how do I bring in a pattern for each cell used in the pricing field? (Pattern is in a gobal container)without have to write 75 statements.

Namely, could I have a field with English and a field with a Hindi translation of the english - and depending where I'm sending a report, print it out in either of the two languages?   75. I am using Field A (14 pixels wide) with a pop-up list attached to select the entry. To view the entire list's contents the field would need to be 87 pixels wide. I only need to view the first letter. Three pixel to the right is Field B. It is a calculation field, with entry allowed, to join the text of two other fields. The problem lies in that when I select any field on the layout Field A's 87 pixel wide pop-up list covers the first 60 pixels of Field B preventing viewing the fields content. How can I set the pop-up list behind Field B unless called upon?

  78. I am developing a database that will be an index for a newspaper archive. To cut down on the errors in data entry I would like to link the Date, Volume, and Issue fields in such a way that the data entry person merely selects a date from the pop-up list and this calls up the correct volume and issue number. How can I do that? The data entry will take place over the web and I am using Instant Web Publishing, so that I can't use any fancy scripts. The records in Line items were initially created through yet another portal through the file Orders. Line items are related to Orders through the field Order Number. When they are created a field called Account Number is populated with a Lookup. The file Leads has a portal into Line Items using the field Account Number.   85. How do I display a specific image on a layout based upon the contents of a field? Making separate menu layouts for various levels of users is getting to be a hassle. I'd like to use one layout that works for all, but the buttons displayed would be based on the user's passwordd level. So that user pwd "Top" would display button image "Top", user "Middle" would display button "Middle" etc. Using this method I would be able to use the same menu for all and be able to show disabled buttons when appropraiate.     Ok i have a pop up list that has three choices...November, February, and June. I have a main form which contains a whole bunch of radio buttons. I want to be able to choose a month, say November, and have the form show up with all the appropriate buttons, yes or no, clicked. I have used the custom page sizes as it the label i wanted wasnt in the drop down. the label im using is Avery L7163 (99.1x38.1mm x14 labels/page). Now when i come to print out the lables only the left hand side gets printed of the page. There are two labels across the page, but i cant get it to print on the right hand label. I want to make a script with wich I would create related records in that portal. ie If there's a record in the first portal row, to create a new record in the second row ...etc. Can you help?
