At work we run Groupwise 5.5. I want the teacher to be able to contact all four of the administrators when a referral is sent. The program I have built will reside on the teachers desktop. They will fill out information and the administrator will be able to go to their desktop look at the information and finish the referral. Is there a way to send just a pop-up message from FileMaker? I have to make it easy for the teachers. Something like click on a button and an Instant message box pops up on each administrators computer. Something like "A referral has been sent." Hope there is something. I know there is a program called "boardroom" but that is an IM like AOL or…

The problem he is having is that a some of them are sent to old adresses that no longer exist. How can he filter these to not receive the return emails? Hi I have a script that automatically checks a database once a day, finds jobs due for the next day and emails out reminders to the person associated with that job - however, I want to CC others with the same email as well but can only get it to cc to one person. What sort of separator do I use so I can put multiple cc recipients in the SendMail script? I know I can do it with SendURL but I'd prefer to use SendMail thanks!!

I've done some research on here, so please confirm I am correct in assuming that you can't script to email in the BCC field. Secondly, that using the URL mailto function does not allow you to mail to the group of records as a result of a search (i.e the found records). Basically what i'm trying to accomplish is to send an email to a group of people in the bcc field.

I have a database (letter layout) that is linked to an Excel file. In this Excel file are "Email," "Name," etc. columns. Is it possible to create a script (I think this is what I need) so that it will send the letters (using the "Email" column) as plain text in the email message area and not as an attachment. I have Novell Groupwise but can get Microsoft Outlook if I can't use Groupwise to email the letters. Hello I have a very simple database holding contact details for people and a very simple script that sends an email using the send mail command. It works fine - opening up a new message in Microsoft Outlook, setting the subject and the body of the email, but when I try to attach a word document nothing happens. No email, nothing. Filemaker pro thinks something is happening as the next part of the script is to set the Email sent field to Yes and that happens, but the email itself isn't created. Any ideas (apart from ditching Microsoft Outlook which unfortunately isn't an option!)? Thanks

I just set up a looping script to send customized emails to each of my 217 customers based on their purchases etc. I tested it by sending the emails to myself to see that the correct number/content of emails was sent. Then I simply changed the send mail script step to use the UserEmail field value in the to line.... pretty simple right? What I neglected to notice were the radio button options that are set by default to use all records in the current found set in the To: field. So I sent 217 emails to each of my 217 customers by mistake.... I just thought I'd pass on this funny story so that anyone reading this will never make that same dumb mistake.

I have FileMaker 5 Server on OS 9 and a custom web form. The web form is used for creating new records in FileMaker. I want to be able to send an email to an email address provided by the user (via the web form). From what I understand SMTPit and MondoMail/FM are both plug-ins and plug-ins are not supported for server versions. Any ideas of how I can get an email sent from within FileMaker server? Thanks!

Is it possible to use inline graphics in mails rendered by SMTPit without them being attached? I mean: I succeed to use inline graphics, but when I send a mail which contains them, they appear as attachment-files. What I want is what you can often see with ad-mails: they show graphics, but don't seem to use attachments for them. These graphics are really inline.

Using the send mail script with FM6, works great from Windows and Macintosh, when they are using Eudora as the email client. I am unable to get it to work with Netscape on Mac OS9. I have set the Internet control panel to use Netscape as the default email program. Are there any workarounds to this that do not involve anymore software? I have even tried installing a copy of Eudora alongside Netscape on the Mac, to try and get it to use Eudora to send the email rather than Netscape. Hi folks! I'm not a programmer -just a regular shmuck- but I've successfully scripted the "send e-mail" function into a loop so I can send e-mails to a group of my dealers (I'm a Mfrs rep) at once. They actually want/need this e-mail so I'm not an evil spammer. FM makes an e-mail for each recipient (no Bcc: that's the way I want it) attaches files, etc. and everything works fine except MS Outlook (not Express) warns me that "a program is trying to send e-mail" and "do want to allow this?" It does this for every e-mail it makes so I sit there approving each one -one after the other, as the script processes the loop. Maybe (probably) I'm missing the setting in O…

I am currently using STMPit to send out a PDF that gets automatically generated on my desktop. Well when the attachment comes through (email)it cannot be opened because it claims it is corrupted, and it's alot bigger that what was generated on the desktop. But the weird thing is that the one on the desktop is fine the size correct and it opens up fine its just when it email out that it's corrupted. Anyone have any clues? I am using SMTPit v.3.12. I want to automatically trigger the sending of an email when a new record is entered into my database (from the web) and one of the fields has a specific value in it (in this, case, the value will be 'urgent'). I'm using FMP 6.0 so I figured out how to construct a script to send email (because of the very useful information on this forum). But I'm not very good at scripting and can't figure out how to make the email send itself when the specific condition (field value) is met. This all works fine except it does not include my digital signature as would happen when I send emails directly through Outlook. Is this a known issue or is there something that I am missing. i am setting up a contact, reservations, and donations database for a local theater. i am stuck on the letter/email part of this. mass letters/emails will need to be sent based on various search criteria (group, name of last show, etc.). doing the search to create a found set is not the problem. with that found set, i do not know the best way to go about the letter database. i know how to simply create the letter with the found set, but i need that letter to have other custom fields inline with the body of the letter so the letter seems personalized. i also need the letter date field to automatically enter itself into the main contact database in a field that tracks all c…

I included scripts in my contacts database to e-mail through Lotus notes (either the individual contact, or all the e-mails in the found set). At first it worked great, but now the e-mail address will sometimes get truncated (but not always), and the e-mail all in the found set doesn't work at all -- it will put only one e-mail address in, and always truncated ("egladston" instead of "[email protected]"). (Incidentally, I don't have trouble with another similar database.) What's happened, and how do I fix it?

Subject says it all realy, I'm creating a global message field from several records using a loop which builds and formats the data as it cycles through the records, I also need to summarise this data at the bottom of the message but cant figure out how get the numbers from the GetSummary field once within each summarised group. Hi, newbie to FM5 here!! I have created a form letter as a layout. I have sorted/omitted all my records down to those I want tos send this letter to. All have email addresses in the email field. How do I sent this email to just these people? I tried the send mail script but must not have done it correctly. It brought up the Mail program (I am Mac OSx), but it does not appear to have sent the layout to those people. What do I need to do to accomplish this? Thanks!

I have a Filemaker Pro 6.0v2 email database that I would like to email HTML to. I have no idea of how to go about this? Is it possible? I have the HTML ready to go. I've sent it via Netscape mail and it looks pretty good on the other end. I know that not all email programs can handle HTML. The goal is to have FMP build an invoice based on a customer's order, send them their invoice, and include a picture of each item they ordered. I can make Filemaker generate an email within Entourage, and include an attachment that is defined by the record. I've got SMTPit to successfully send to a database of contacts. I also can successfully retrieve mail with POP3it in a separate database. As of now, I can export the POP3it database, modify the data in Excel, and import it into the sending database to update records for UNSUBSCRIBES. What I don't get is how to setup the sending database to also retrieve mail with POP3it and automatically update the records with UNSUBSCRIBES. I would like to make this a completely automated mass-mailer database. Can this be done? Should I use a different solution? My apologies if this has been covered, I am new to this forum and did not find this answer.

When the send mail script runs, I receive a message from Outlook saying that a program is sending on my behalf and it gives me the option to cancel. FYI, just posted to faxing reg; windows xp, you can use xp faxing program along with outlook 2002, to either send faxes or email documents or both if you like. It is working great for emailing documents, did not know if everyone knew about these features in windows xp and outlook 2002..

I have FM55 server under W2K hosting 15 files and 12 clients running fm5.0 under W98. I have a script that export data in html format and then sends an e-mail with this file attached. The problem is that I specified the path and the name of the file to be exported (C:). The export goes fine in any client, it exports the file to c:. But when the sendmail script step is invoked (even tough I had specified the path c: to get the file to be attached the client never finds the right path. I have been approached to assist with expanding an inhouse contacts DB (fmp) used by a small nonprofit theatre group, to integrate with or incorperate an email program. It would need to be suitable for 5-6 users with seperate accounts addresses and allow for mass email to selected contact groups eg actors , sponsors ... etc allready catagorised in contacts BD. I have a simple mail script and I mean just the sendmail command. I works fine for the pc but on the mac it doesn't. I am using outlook express. Internet config is version 2 and the mailto help app is outlook. It acts like it is working, i.e the cursor changes for a second but it never sends the email. Hi, For e-mailing reports from our database we use pdf writer to convert reports to pdf files and then attach them to an e-mail. I'm trying to install pdf writer on a pc running windows 2000 for that purpose, but it doesn't seem to work (the installation that is). Anybody familiar with using pdf writer in combination with Filemaker 5.0? I'm aware that it's not strictly a filemaker question, but visiting the Adobe site hasn't made it any more clear to me and I am hoping someone from the Filemaker community might know more.

I have scripts that will send emails at auction close, emails to remind at specified intervals, send email to buyer when payment received, when item is sent, print invoices, labels, blah, blah, blah..... It works great for ME. My associate is on a MAC and the scripts will not work. Could the stmp plug in solve this problem? I have heard that FileMaker 5.5 cannot use the "send mail" script with any email program OTHER THAN Eudora. Is this true for FileMaker 6.0? I am creating my first FM database for a Resume/cv database and with scripts, managed to create an email button which when clicked goes to Outlook with the current record info I requested .. so far so good. ( this is so clients can request a persons c.v via email) When I have listed what fields (including the email field/button)to upload thru Web companion the "send email" area has reverted to a blank field and is "unclickable" and doesn't work. I have created a script that finds , sorts exports and e-mails out the found records as a merge file - no problem. I am quite happy for it to perform the steps using the dialogue box and then pressing send to actually mail the records (or put them in the out box if they are not connected at the time). This works fine on the test machine (e-mailing to self) HOWEVER... If emailing, what can be sent? A layout?; contents of a layout? How is the information formatted at receiving end? I have a Project Tracking db that allows users on a network to generate quotation requests via layouts for vendors. We are currently using a fax software to send the layout. Here's the situation: I have a Windows NT Server machine running in the office, hosting a FM Database. People in the office connect to this database using FileMaker (not via the web) and make changes, add records etc., I would like for them to be able to execute a script to send mail, however, i want the mail to be sent from the server, not their individual computers. The server is configured correctly to send mail, when i execute the script from it, it works perfectly. Maybee you've all read my complaints about the fact Filemaker just can't send HTML mail via MS Outlook (Corporate/Workgroup Edition), just plain text. I now created a really cool workaround for this. What I did was create a Visual Basic Project and a script in Filemaker. The Filemaker script exports some fields I need in the mail message to a CSV file, the VB Project reads this export and uses the data to generate some HTML code for the Body of the mail. Although I think I understand some of FM, I am obviously missing something. I have made a database with text and photo fields in each record. Obviously, I can print my found set in the layout I have chosen. How do I send the same found set and layout via email? I get junk email all the time that looks like they have done exactly this. I want to attach more than 1 file in an email using the "send mail" script step. Currently, the send mail script step only allows for 1 attachment. Is there a work around for this or do I have to try to create an apple event and a DDE execute script step in my cross-platform database? THANKS!!!

I've figured out how to send an email from "Send Mail" script step. I use "send Mail" script step with a global text field in FM to pass the entire contens of the field to the body of email. But the font size of the contents is too big (default 12). Is there any way to control the font size automatically before/after the contents of the fields sent/pass to the body of the mail ? Thanx.. How you do this kind of depends upon what your layout looks like. If you layout contains just text information and you don't particularly care if it is reproduced graphically, you can use a FM plug-in to send an email with the information from the layout. If you want to send and EXACT graphical duplicate of the layout by email, you will need to use a PDF printer driver to print the layout to a PDF file, use an email plug-in (or FM's built in email feature) to create an email and attach the PDF file to the email. -bd

What cause all mail from an FMP-filled webpage to arrive with an incorrect time? The webpages call to the linux mail server (SendMail) and always says it was sent 5 hours after it was. All other email, cgi mail scripts, etc. work fine, just FMP pages submitted give wrong date. I thought FMP would format with the current time on host machine. Also, within these emails, if a field contains the "&" symbol, it returns the ascii code rather than the "&" symbol. Quick fixes?

Make sure that you have set Eudora to be your default email program in the Internet Config application.

I am currently running FM 5, and have an employee database. We are going to make the database accessable to all employees via the web. Each individual has a different e-mail address and we want everyone to be able to send others e-mail when they click on the field (link). everytime I tell the Send Email script to use records in current found set for the To: it opens Eudora and never opens the new message window with the emails in it. If I tell it to open current record it works fine. Doesn't matter if I have 1 or 20 records in current found set. Thoughts? Thanks, nati

I don't understand how FM Pro 5 chooses or recognizes which e-mailing application to use. Like whenever I use the send mail command, the FM takes the Microsoft Outlook by default as it's mailing application; but I need to know how, if possible, to change this to another application. Thanks

I've been doing a lookup and then exporting a .csv file to exel and cutting and pasting the email address'. I'd like to be able to automate this, so I can send emails to a group of people without the exporting, cutting and pasting. Also, I'd like to add to a "yes,no" field either a "yes*" or a "primary" so I would have three choices. Hi People, Appart from World Domination, my main concern at the min is trying to sort out batch emails to clients using my FM database. What i want to do is send an email, comprising a graphical message and a pdf file, to certain people that i've filtered from the database. Digging into the possibilities of mailing with FM Pro 5.0 on a Mac I found out that it's only possible with either Eudora or Claris Emailer( now owned by Apple?) I want to use the filemaker email function to let me pick a field representative for whom I have new records. I will then export the new records and attach them to the email. The problem is that the level of computer experience in my field offices is very limited and I do not want to overwrite the previous file sent with the new file sent. I am thinking that I will have to have a filenaming convention that sends a unique filename- something like OFCTOFldxxxx where xxxx is the month and day of the year. I would like to have filemaker create the filename and assign it to the export file which is attached. Any suggestions.
