hi all, i hope that someone can help me, i am trying to run FM Pro 9.0v3 on a Mac Pro running Leopard 10.5.4 we are also running a leopard server of the same machine but I can not get IWP to work, it just says "Filemaker can not share files over the web because it cannot start Instant Web Publishing." from my research this seems to be an issue with leopard and previous versions of Filemaker but I have followed the advice on the Filemaker knowledge base off re-installing over filemaker but to no avail. Hi, I'm having a problem when viewing and printing my label layout through instant web publishing. If I go directly through Filemaker and go into preview for the label layout, it presents and then prints them the way that it should. But when I access it through the instant web publishing, it only shows me one label at a time, and when I view it as a list, it just makes a normal list, not one that conforms to the label layout (which I see in Filemaker) Also when I print it, it doesn't print according to the margins specified in the layout. Can anyone help me with this please? YK

Hi - boring topic i know but just cant get IWP to work on Mac FMserver advanced. 1. IWP is turned on via the admin console 2. the file has IWP ticked in Database pane of console 3. router is open to 591 and directed to the IP of the FM server When accessing via http://mydomain:591 I get an error saying the URL cant be found. I run FMP Advanced on my office Network, connected to the network from the host computer via Airport; all works fine on the office network. I cannot access the file remotely, say from home, I have tried configuring the Airport so that my computer there is a fixed IP address but this did not fix the issue. I was using Port 80, have not tried 591. Is this a process that can be done? My office uses a firewall on the router. Any help would be appreciated. Also, can I access the file through my website on Yahoo.com?

I've changed nothing but for some reason my IWP has stopped working. When trying to connect I get "http://url.... Forbidden You do not have authorization to access this server." Any one familiar with this? I've restarted the sever and it is hosting web pages but IWP is broken. Please help.

I have an IWP solution where customers are going to be entering delicate info such as credit card numbers. I have all IWP connections auto signed in under the [guest] account. I have set all sensitive fields (such as CC numbers) to be global fields. This should make it so that no one can see the data entered by an outside user unless they are connecting from the same IP since global fields are user specific (I have tested this). Also, when the user disconnects from the database the record they were using is deleted. Is there any flaw in this? Hey guys. I've been stuck on this problem for a while. I'm trying to get the sort buttons in my database to work properly. They work perfectly in FMP 9 Advanced but in iwp they only sort in descending order, not ascending. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've gotten kicked all over the playground by a script for saving lists in a related table, and I was hoping that one of my fellow readers (I've been an FMForums lurker for a while) might be able to shed some light on my problem. I have a script that takes quite a while to execute, creating perhaps hundreds of records from text pasted by the user. At times the process takes so long that the user's session in the web browser times out. Is there a common workaround for this when interacting with a database via IWP? I tried refreshing the window periodically, but that seems to have no effect. I thought of briefly pausing the script periodically, but that's not compatible with IWP. The procedure is successful when the user logs in again, but the timeout is unacceptable. Thanks, Chuck

Hi. We have a number of databases with many drop down boxes with differing value lists. On the client computer they work fine , however when we publish them using Instant Web Publishing and access them via our Intranet , the pop down menus appear however we can not choose any values. Also none of our edit boxes (for entering simple text) will not work.

I have tried to display my Filemaker modules through Instant Web Publishing from my work PC and home Mac. It works fine on the local network but when I try to access from either home to work (different locations - not networked) or visa versa, I get "Webpage cannot be displayed". I have tried setting the port to 591 and in the manual but no joy. I am doing this with Filemaker Pro 9 which as I understand should allow up to 5 users to connect. I do not have Filemaker Server. I have some fields that have a maximum char limit that allows the user to override. In IWP, it doesn't give them that option. It just says that you have exceeded the max and you hit ok (there are no other buttons) and the field reverts to blank I even tried to allow user to override, but get the same results Any advice? I am completely unfamiliar with using javascript. I understand in order to get web users back to a home page of my choosing I need to place the iwp_home.html file into the web folder. And I understand I need to change the value of top.location via javascript to the URL of my choosing to make sure the user is properly logged off my database server when they close a session. However I need someone to show me exactly what this looks like in my page source. I appreciate any help.

I am using IWP to display some small forms but this leaves a significant amount of empty space on the right side of the browser window. Is there a way to have all that is displayed in the browser centered?

Hi All, I need to enter a URL for a single database and it open direct in the web browser. I want it to login as guest account without having to enter any passwords so people are straight in. IWP is linked internally as http://192.168.0.242/fmi/iwp/res/iwp_home.html which brings up all 15 databases hosted and if I click on one of them the url changes to: http://192.168.0.242/fmi/iwp/res/iwp_auth.html?sid=02DA8E8FAEAC1F2D12F9D213 I can enter that url which bypasses the welcome page but it still asks for a password (the file is set to open using guest which it does automatically with Filemaker but not on the web. I have a solution that is hosted with IWP. A particular script executes successfully when run from within FileMaker and when run from within Safari, but not in IE. Other scripts seem to run without trouble. The script is linked to a checkbox field, and performs an operation (marking the record for the logged in user) by setting a value in another table. I've double-checked and there are no IWP incompatible steps in the script. When most scripts run, the page seems to reload, but not in this case, moving off the record and returning to it confirms that the records is not marked. Any suggestions? My attempt to turn on Instant Web Sharing gets the error message "Filemaker cannot share files over the web because Instant Web Sharing cannot be started." Is there a way to remove the white border that appears on the bottom and right side of a edit box - > drop down list when going into edit mode? It keeps the size of the input field the same but the drop down list cuts off half of the value stored in the field.

I have the customers billing information set as a set of auto-enter calculation fields that auto fill with the data from the shipping information fields when the "same_address" field (contains a checkbox value: "same as shipping") is checked. Everything works fine from within Filemaker, but when accessing the page from the web the whole action is finiky at best. How can I get this function working for IWP?

My SQL server crashed beyond all recognition and the data was not recoverable. So all my database links are gone. Subsequently, my web site is useless. I have a lab that is using a FileMaker 9 DB on a FileMaker 9 Advanced Server to track items in freezers. When viewing their database they would like to be able to view more items on a page, is this possible? In the "table" view the web version only shows at most 50 records at a time; in list view, it's 25. Are these adjustable values? Since they are dealing with freezer boxes that hold either 100 or 81 tubes, it would be easier if the table could hold 100 or more records at a time.

The problem is that some parts of the page are not shown in the browser. It might be because Javascript should be enabled (I don't know). Has anybode found this problem before? How did you solve it? Hi there, We have an online multiple registration system which contains a summary page with a list of possible students and courses. Each course is listed under each student with a checkbox - to register students, the corresponding checkbox needs to be tagged. Courses that have been checked previously become disabled to prevent duplicate registrations. The process ends up taking the browser to a tax invoice/receipt page. However when a browser uses their Back button to return to the summary page the most recent registration checkboxes are still active as the page has not refreshed itself (because it loads from the preceding login page). I was wondering whether anyone knew from where the iwp_home.html document calls the text for the words in the banner "Instant Web Publishing" and "Database Homepage"? I just want to customize/replace this text in a simple way to customize the home page. I've searched through the files and cannot seem to locate it. Those are not .gif files like some of the other images.

I opened my computer today and went into filemaker and I got a dialog that says I need to change ports for web publishing because there is a conflict. I haven't used web publishing. Hi I have setup my database for instant Web publishing. I am on a dynamic ip, but I've got around this using no-IP.com it works really well and have managed to access a test database over the net. I've got some questions about security. I have set up on my router port forwarding to the computer with the database, I have open port 80. my question is should I have any security issues when I open this port. Can I set up a secure connection to this database. I don't particularly want to set up selected IP addresses for clients as this could be difficult as some of them on dynamic IP is as well. I have my FM Databases hosted and I was wondering of it's possible to have the FM database open straight to the homepage (using a web browser) rather than opening the IWP page where you have to login? It will go straight to the home page if I connect using FM. Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi, I have a problem with an online exam that I want to publish via IWP. Each answer choice has several fields that have to line up properly and I need a link to go across the entire length of each answer choice. It seems to work okay with Safari but IE and Firefox are a different story. Would be great to get some information how to tackle this: My customer runs 15 PCs on an internal network. One PC has a version 8 FM Pro installed. This is probably the most perplexing problem I've faced with FM recently; please refer to the attached .pdf of the script I'm having problems with. The script belongs to a second-tier login screen and it works just fine when you're in the file using FM Pro. However, when a user connects to the same solution via IWP the script fails (apparently) at the IF statement "Get(AccountName)...". What happens is, even with the correct account name and password entered the script jumps to the ELSE part of that IF statement, which it shouldn't. Ok, the problem is the following. When starting FikeMaker Pro (9.0v3) it will freeze. After performing a force quit you can launch it again, wher it will say that it cannot do Instant Web Publishing on port 80 because something else is using it. Now, when I first turn on the mac (10.5). and run netstat there is nothing on port 80, a ps also shows that httpd is not running. Upon starting FileMaker Pro 2 httpd processes appear-the first launched by launchd the second one launched by the first one. When I "Force Quit" FileMaker Pro these two processes remain. However, netstat still shows nothing listening on 80 (http). If I then launch FMP again it says something else i…

I have a layout that contains 60 values in a repeating field with a total at the bottom. When viewing the layout with IWP everything looks correct, the layout is long enough that when printed it should take 2 pages, but when I print only the first page prints. I am running FM Advanced 8.5v2. Is this normal? I tried creating a simple test DB with only one table, and one layout and two fields. one at the top and one spaced down far enough that it would print on a second page. And again the browser displays the page perfect but will only print the first page cutting the rest off. Any help?

Primer: We have a seven file solution that logs into a main file and then subsequently opens up the other 6 files. Problem: After logging in to the Main file, i toggle the 'Status Bar' successfully, but as soon as I navigate to another file if i try to toggle the Status Bar, IWP goes crazy and does a reboot of some sort. The clients will only have access to their pictures when they login. They will be able to choose and order photos on line. Hi, I have a script which pulls data from the web using a Web Viewer. The script then sets a global field with the contents of the Web Viewer using the following: Set Field [ gGeocodes; GetLayoutObjectAttribute("GPSWebViewer"; "content") ] The script works great within FileMaker. But, I tried to get this to work for web clients using PHP.FX but no success. So I backtracked to see if it would even work via IWP... but, also no success. HI I have a portal which contains a value list as check boxes. I have a calculation that creates a price when 2 of the values are checked this in turn is used in a sum(valuelistItems::myTable) to get a total. This works perfectly in filemaker but does not calculate in IWP. When a check box is checked the submit and cancel buttons appear in the inspector. When submitted it still does not calculate. Any ideas?

Hi, I've got a FMP DB for our school's tech repair requests, and I set up a search page in the PHP Site Assistant that is supposed sort the results by job ticket number, descending, so the most recent job ticket is displayed at the top. However, the record list page always sorts it ascending - most recent at the bottom. I can click the ticket number column header to get the proper sort, but I'd rather not make my users have to do that (we've got over 14000 job tickets in the system). Any advice?

Hi, Is there any way to set up a layout (for Guest/Read Only access) that would default into FIND mode when a Guest logs in via IWP? We want our users to be able to check the status of their support request tickets themselves, but not necessarily browse around our DB. Also, is it possible to have the Status Area be toggled off by default? My users aren't terribly tech-literate and the less they have to deal with the better. Thanks!

I am new to IWP hence the questions. Can I integrate IWP with an existing website and say IWP in a frame within the site? How do I access my solution from within my site folder? www.mysite.com/filemaker?: On a mac server I can only access through the 111.222.33.44 address which boots the filemaker intro page. Also It says there is a port conflict. I want to use 80 but it wont let me! When 2 users are on IWP freezes on the client machines. On the host it says 2 users are connected. The only way to get things going again is force quit filemaker. When started again it asks for for another port number! Any help on any of these would be grateful.

Hi Chaps I am new here so please bear with me. I trying to publish a solution and on one script IWP hangs and all I get is the 'submit' and 'cancel' buttons on the left. All scripts are web compatabile, I am using version 3 and I am getting tired. I have tried different versions of the script but it still hangs. The script simply chooses a clicked picture creates a new record in another table and displays it in a portal The log tells me its an Error 404 which I believe is a port problem. I've been using FileMaker for around a year and a half now and love it and getting comfortable with it. I now find myself needing to create a website. I thought FileMaker would be perfect for the job instead of having to learn some new HTML code generator. Here's the kicker..... On my website I'll need to place ad spaces for advertising by others. Which means inserting Javascript and HTML into the code that IWP produces. This is a BIGGIE for me. Hi all-- I was looking at the article Building Web Services with FileMaker Pro by Bill Humphries on xml.com. Apparently in FMP 5.5 it was possible to output XML directly to the web by passing the command "-format=-dso_xml&-find". I've been attempting to adapt this method to my version of FileMaker Pro (8.5). If I understand things correctly, FMP has replaced the Web Companion plug-in from earlier versions with Instant Web Publishing. But IWP doesn't seem to recognize the "-format" request. I am running FM 9v3 on OS X 10.4.11 on a PBG4 1.67GHz. I have been using IWP for quite awhile without issue. Lately I have noticed that after accessing databases over IWP, the computer slows down and becomes almost unusable. In reviewing the "activity monitor", IWP is constantly using 60-80% of my CPU even when there are no active connections. I have to force quit the IWP through the activity monitor to free-up the CPU. I'm trying to figure out if this is an FM problem or computer problem. Any thoughts? The problem may have started when I upgraded to v3 but I'm not sure. Thanks

Hello, I published my db to the web and I am having the following problem. When viewing a list of expenses (list view) and on the left-hand side you can click, "Next Range of Records" and it takes you to page 2 to view that listing. I'd like to create my own button for this feature, however, I am only able to pick next record. When I read up on next page, that is only for reports. And this layout of the db is not a report. I will be taking away the side status bar for the user b/c I don't want them to have that much access. Any other suggestions? Thank you in advance, Mary

Hello, with FMP 9 or FMP Advanced, can I "Instant Web Publish" a filemaker file connected to a MySql database? Or do I need Filemaker Server? Only 4 persons will have to connect to the database. I asked it because I successfully connected a filemaker file with a MySql database, I published it, but I can see it only on computers which are on my network. I tried to connect with another remote computer (with FMP and the file opened in my computer) but the browser keep trying charging the page and doesn't show anything. Thanks.

Hi all, I'm running FM Pro 7 for a small office at a university writing center. We use FM to enter student and session records. Last year we started publishing our database to the web so tutors could enter records from our satellite locations. All was fine until just recently, when anyone who tries to connect to the web-published database from a wireless connection can't get in. In fact, they get nothing at all, not an error, just a blank page. However, access via a web page is still available via a wired connection. Hi, I have a small site (contacts) generated with php site assistant. Let's say in the record list page I have the first 25 records of a found set. I have the option to sort them let's say by Last name by clicking on the underlined column header. Everything works as expected, but when I click on Next (25 records) the sort order is lost and contacts are again presented in an order that is not by Last name...

I just changed service providers from Covad to Verizon and I have heard from my clients that the Thumbnail is not showing in Internet Explorer 6. Can this issue have anything to do with service providers? I have tested it with FireFox (Mac & PC) and Safari and it shows in those browsers. It's working fine from within FileMaker in Windows, but when run from IWP, "http:" is automatically added to the URL, making it "http://sip:123456". Anyone encountered this? Any workarounds? I'm setting up a new Mac running OS X Server 10.5.2 and FMPro Advanced 9.0.3. Everything is 100% up to date, and the machine is very new and clean. When I try to activate IWP, I get the dreaded dialog: Filemaker cannot share files over the Web because Instant Web Publishing could not be started. I've trashed and reinstalled. I've trashed the preference files (both FMPro's and IWP's). If OS X Server's web sharing is active, I do get the message about a port conflict, and I change the port, but then get the dreaded dialog. For sake of description, the people are sales leads and the notes are notes on those leads. There may be zero or more notes per name. There's a unique ID field for the relationship. I am working on a db that the user - set up with their last name as a login and password, logs in, goes to a particular layout and automatically inserts their last name or, the (AccountName) in the field of Last Name to find their particular records. This works fine. The problem is, when the user has the same last name as another. What I wanted to do, if this is possible, is subsitute their (AccountName) with a last name for them which resides in a table. I'm pretty sure I saw someone do this somewhere b4 but my memory have gotten the best of me on this one. Is it all all possible to use the web viewer to view a local folder on your computer. I know that if you type the path, say for instance, in your browser it would simply open the folder. The trick I'm trying to explore here is to have someone type a filepath in a field, then i plan on using some form of Troi file to validate the path, and if its a valid path, display the contents in the web viewer and thus have it visible via IWP. Any idea why the top of my FM9 layouts begin about 30 pixels below the toolbar using IWP in IE6-7? These same layouts start right below the toolbar in Firefox. My old FM7/IWP layouts looked just fine IE6-7.

This may be really dumb, but I turned on Web Publishing to try something, and now everytime I start up Filemaker (8) it says it can't start IWP and turns it to off. My thinking was that if I could get it to start up with IWP on, then I could turn it off and everything would be back to normal. Is my thinking correct, or how could I stop it trying to start everytime? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I am using IWP with FM Pro Advanced 9, and have a custom home page that points to several databases. I would also like to have links on that page that point to large collections of images in various directories (that are not in the databases). I was hoping to simply allow directory browsing on the directories containing them. However, it seems directory browsing is turned off in the built-in IWP web server by default - is there any way to turn this on/configure it? Or would I have to move to the (very expensive) Server version to get this rather basic option? Alternatively I guess I could set up another web server on a different port that hosts the image director…

I have created a database for IWP and come accross the following 2 problems. I have a global field value list which populates a portal. The values in this portal can be added to another portal via a script. 1) Is there a way so you don't need the refresh button to reupdate the portal 2)the adding script doesn't work in IWP. Whenever I use the GoTo Related Record Script step on the web it goes to the first record of the entire found set and necessarily the specified record of the found set. I did realize the same behavior in pro and realize it was due to a commit record script step prior to me using the GoTo Related Record step. I can see pasting pictures online is not something that can be done. What can be done to drop a picture into a container field by any means? Is there a way to upload the picture somehow and have it correspond to the file. Is there some plug or system to do this. ? Thank you

I have a FMPro 8.5 hosted database that works perfectly and shows up on every browser, however, when I access it on my IPAC PDA running Windows Mobile 5 and IE, I get the web page but there are no links for the database. It is just a blank Instant Web Publishing webpage. All other webpages appear normal (ie CNN, Yahoo, etc.) Any suggestions.

I have searched all over and this should be a real easy answer but can't seem to find it. I have two databases say PRODUCTS and ORDERS that are called from a web interface only IWP database. Clients log into the web only database with their privileges, but I noticed they can not see data in any of the related tables (unless i create a matching account), as they do not have accounts in these. Since accounts are created often and there will be many users it is not possible or practicle to create matching accounts in the two sub databases. I know that any privileges that are created in one file are rippled up through any related files, but how do I just have the …

I got the open URL part working. My users will click a submit button after answering 3 simple questions. Depending on their answers they can be directed to go to 1 of 2 places. Its no problem getting them to the right place but how can I close the page where the 3 questions live? Do I need the button to be some kind of java script? Any suggestion are appreciated.

I have a Web based solution that allows the user to view records through a portal. When viewing more than 4,000 records, there are issues using Explorer causing some data to be garbled and buttons missing off the layout. There is no problem with this while using Safari or Firefox. Anyone have any experience with this problem using Explorer?

I published my solution via IWP and the fields where users enter data are adjustable. For some reason, there are some diagonal lines in the bottom right corner of every field and if I click on it, I can drag the field to expand a little. The data can still be entered, but it doesn't look very clean. Any thoughts on how to prevent this?

Just installed FMS 9, (previously had from FMS 8). I am trying to access FMServer_Sample.fp7 in Safari 3.0.4. via the PHP test from the FileMaker Server 9 Technology Tests. I am getting the following error: Safari can’t open the page. Safari could not open the page “http://192.168.X.X/fmi-test/phptest.php?lang=en&server=.local” because the server stopped responding I am trying to access from a local machine. I'm trying to add the ability to send/receive emails from FileMaker Server Advance 8 (soon to upgrade to 9). Ideally, I'd like emails to be triggered from within an IWP session, but I'm ok if the email is not sent immediately, but is within a few minutes. Needs to run on OS X. I'd like to avoid the use of Robot FM clients -- I'm ok with third party commercial software if needed. I would like this to work in FMSA 8, but if I have to upgrade to 9 to get it to work, I will. Hi, We just upgraded our server from FileMaker Server v. 8 to v. 9 Advanced. It's an XServe running OS X Server 10.4.10. I tried to enable IWP on it and setup some of our .fp7 files to be available through IWP, and I do see the √ under IWP next to our database file. When I login to the /fmi/iwp/res/iwp_home.html page on our server, all I get is a blank page, with the standard blue graphic (no text), FileMaker icon at the top right corner of the page and a small white home icon. Can a scripted button in IWP be automated to direct individuals answering a few specific questions where to go next based on their answers. We want to asked 4 basic question and if you meet our criteria go to this page. If you don't meet the criteria go to polite question page. Is this possible with IWP? I have 12 computers using FileMaker to track work flow in a manufacturing plant. Several users use each computer during the day. Users often leave the computer and don't commit the changes. Is there a way to track key and mouse imput and if nothing changes for 5 minutes, commit the records and maybe change the layout?

I would appreciate help with the following issue; I have filemaker 9 pro advanced running in Leapord. When i start fm it gives a message that it can't start instant web publishing and then fm quits. I can start fm when i log in as another user and the instant web service is off in the sharing menu. Anybody have any ideas?

I installed FMP 8 Advanced on an OSX Server 10.4 A database that requires IWP was opened. The FM Network was enabled. When trying to enable IWP, as soon as the ON button was clicked, FMP quit, immediately. I had neglected to update FMP8A to ver8.03. I am going to do the update tomorrow. Is this setup workable? Searches have not turned up any firm answers. Thank you for your time.
