NB - just realised I posted my query in the wrong section (I think) - many apologies for doubling up.... Hello, I have a 'wish list' field and an 'actual' field containing multiple items (could be check boxes or radio buttons). These use the same value list. I'm trying to create a 'pending' field to automatically show me the 'wishes' that aren't yet 'actual' but can only get a blank field. Thought I could have an auto-enter calculation to say 'wish - actual = pending', but (of course!) its not working. I'd really appreciate any help anyone out there can give. Hi I have a related field I wish to use as a value list. I know how to do that, but I need to filter out the values that arent part of the relationship. Hi, I was working on a simple invoice database, populating a simple custom value list with custom values (not related or from field). When I tried the value list it said "<Value list missing>". So I went back to the value list set up screen and then BOOM "The file "<Unknown>" is damaged, please use recover, do you want to continue using this file ?" I have 3 databases including a join file. A is a Vendors rolodex, B is a tariff of available Activities, and C is the join that allows all activities a vendor offers to be shown in A while all vendors who offer a particular activity are shown in B (via portal). Match fields are just a unique record ID (for each Vendor and each Activity) that are not useful for users to see. I'm stuck on the following: for each activity, I want the user to be able to enter multiple vendors by choosing from a value list that pulls all vendor names up from the Vendors file. I am attempting to create a situation where when i choose one item from a pop-up menu, for example, an island in hawaii, I want the pop-up menu in the next field to contain only data specific to that island. I have a lesson plan database that I want to create into a Runtime so as to distribute. However I would like to include the State Standards for each state and have the user choose their state and have that state's standards appear in another field as check boxes. I originally planned on charging extra for the cutomization but I know that would be a nightmare... Is there a way I could have the standards made as value lists which allows the user to choose their own? Hello, I work with 3 databases: Orders, invoice & invoice articles. In the invoice database I have a portal that connects to the invoice articles. A field called project number has a valuelist which show all the project of the custumer which is selected. (I want only the one that are still open) Here is what I want! I created a value list in my secondary file using values from a field. This field ("ID tag") gathers info from another file (Master file). I have 143 records so far, which isn't much considering what I plan to enter in the future. As soon as I created the value list, I noticed that everything slowed down. Response time during data entry slowed greatly, etc... As soon as I removed the value list, it was back to normal. Does this have to do with the length of the value list or the fact that the info is coming from another file? What i have on hand is to send confirmation letters to the customers after they have registered with our company. I have 2 related files: donor.fp5 and vendor.fp5 vendor contains a check box field with Yes or No as the options, and another field company name. Donor has a field: Non-Profit, which is a drop down from CompanyName in vendor. I want to be able to do a find in donor for all the Non-Profits that have the check box marked YES in vendor. I will eventually be performing a script from donor.fp5 with these records, so if I can script the requests that I want that would be good also. I have a value list "Options" that have values: Sentance1, Sentance2, Sentance3, Sentance4, Sentance5. I use a Field Box, and change the format to "CheckBox" and assign the above list to it. Then I have another Field Box "results" that I want to show which options are checked. So a user can check option Sentance1, Sentance3 and Sentance5. Hello, I have a value list that that displays 4 items with checkboxes. When they are displayed they are right under eachother, I would like to put a space between each value so an example being. Checkbox1 Checkbox2 Checkbox3 Insead of: Checkbox1 Checkbox2 Checkbox3 I did use try to leave a blank space between each value in the Value properties box but a checkbox appears in the CDML page between each value where the blank space should be. (Roll #) I have another field with the value list attached (Roll Selector) I have a Script which copies the Data from (Roll Selector) and performs a FIND based on your selection. Hello, I have a value list that has 26 different comments. When a teacher updates the final class documentation they select comments about the student from the value checkbox. They can select any amount of comments per student. I would like to have a count per class on the comments selected. I have a Job Ticket database that is related to these files and created relationships/Value list called VendorsList and StaffList, which is all the codes I use for each file (Ex: GWS for George Swisher in Staff file, and SYST for System in the Vendors file) I use vendors and staff to assign tasks to be completed, that is created in the Job Ticket Database. I am having an odd problem. I have a style screen on my inventory database, on it is a field SupplierID which is created using a value list. My problem is that when I switch on in the morning the first thing I see is this style with the wrong supplier ID showing up. I do what most people do at this point and correct the value to what it should be but then when I go out to the main menu and return the value has changed back to the wrong value!?! I have a database made in FMP 5.5, "Assets" that tracks inventory. When an item is purchased, its entered into this database with an Asset Number and quantity, and when an item is sold its Asset Number is entered into a different field "Linked Asset Number", and its quantity is entered also. I have a layout with a number of check boxes. For simplicity, let's say they all have 2 check boxes labelled YES or NO. I want a count at the end of the month of how many YES were checked, and how many NO. Is this possible? I browsed other posts and saw a reference to something called PatternCount. I am trying to link pop-up menu value-lists. For example, if in the first field, "Color" I chose "Red," the menu for the field "Fruit," would only show a value list called "RedFruit." If a different color was chosen, a different subsequent menu would appear.

(I did not want to use one dynamic drop down list) Are there any tricks anyone has used to achieve this effect. The value list in question derives from a field in another file, and the values in those fields will be frequently edited: more records will be added, others will be deleted, and some will be altered. The problem is that the text field created when a value is selected from the list continues to contain values that no longer appear in the value list itself. That precludes counting carriage returns in the list, which seemed like a good idea, till I thought about it. So is there another way to count the number of items checked in a value list? Oh. A checkbox list is used for multiple select. If displayed on a layout with a value list of some 1000 values, it would be nice with a scrollbar, as for the list option (only then only one option can be selected) Suggestions?

Background: I created a stand-alone kiosk application using FM_dev5.5 consisting of multiple files, multiple relationships and multiple value lists. Some of the value lists take their data form a related field. Problem: The application works fine, pop-up lists work as they should, until sporadically the following happens: all fields with field format set to 'pop-up list' refuse to show the pop-up list. O.K. I'm not sure what I've done wrong but my pop lists are blank in find mode. My database makes extensive use of conditional value lists which display custom values in pop-up fields. These all work fine in browse mode but are now blank in find mode. My value lists are based on a relationship with another file where the match field is called "User". Previously the pop up lists would work fine in Find mode as long as I would first enter a value in "User" and then click on the field with the pop-up. Now all of the pop-ups are blank. Hello, I have a problem with the entry into fields with value lists defined to them. When I click on a field to display a field value list that was setup for it under Format Field, I can enter te first few characters of the value so that the list will automatically go to the first record containing this value. I.e. I type in "hotdo" and the list will jump to the first value to contain these letters, say "hotdog". Hello, I have noticed that when I use value lists as pull down menus or lists inside of a portal, that when the user goes to make these choices, related record, by related record, the other fields in the entire portal flash...like disapper and reappear. It is not changing the values, but it is a little disturbing when entering information. T This is happening in an invoices file where the user is pulling up a style number and then making choices individual to each invoice of size or color ordered. Hi, Does anybody know if it is possible to display multiple fields in value list yet when choice is selected only the value of first field is taken? To better illustrate my problem, i have a db with EmpID and EmpName fields. On another db, i want to have a value list displaying EmpID and its EmpName but when a choice is selected in this value list only EmpID value is taken. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Guys, Hoping you can help me out. I have a field in a table called estimates. The field name is CustID. I have attached a value list to CustID, which allows you to select the the CustID and Customer name from the customer file. This works great if I want create an estimate for someone in the customer file. My problem is, I would also like to create estimates in the prospects file, so in the field CustID in estimates, I would like the abililty to choose ProspectID and ProspectName. Would this be possible? I know I should have only a sigle file called contacts with both prospects and clients, but unfortunately I haven't so I need to deal with what I have …

With a Field highlighted, using Ctrl I, brings up an Index list, which I use all the time. My Index list contains a lot of one off items and also a lot of item descriptions I use regularly. Is there any way in FMpro 6 to cull unwanted items out of the pop up index list.

I'm trying to create a value list in the project database from active supplier in the supplier list database. Hi there, I've a db with layout with a field "box" and in each box I've 81 spots where the user can put some biological stuff in it. So, I set up another field with an "external" value list for the 81 spots (in fact a pop up list with simply the numbers). What I would like to do is when the user select a spot number is to eliminate this number from the value list. So, it will be impossible for a particular box to use twice (or more !) the same spot. Of course, when a product will be used the record will be deleted and the spot number will need to return to the spot value list I'm a little bit stuck on this, so thank you in advance for your help

I am trying to link a group of person to a Lab Head. i.e. I have a field Group which contain values AA, BB CC etc... name of the lab head I have a field Person which contain all name of the collaborators (pop-up menu with value list) What I need is to have in the field Person, only the name of the collaborators of head AA or BB or CC... Database A has a field "full name" based on a case statement that if field (1) is yes, then "first name" & "last name". This works properly. Database B has a field that I want to display a pop up list from the "full name" field of Database A. Relationship is correct, yet I get no list. Hello, I am developing an index of articles for a newspaper. We have allowed that each article can have four subjects, so I have created four subject fields. No subject is more important than any other. Of course most articles have only one or two subjects so that the third and fourth field do not have as many values in it. This causes a problem in searching. If one chooses to limit a search by choosing three subjects, say, not all the available values are in the 3rd field. I want to define a value list in file A that contains items from field X (in the same file) for records with matching field Y. The trick is that I want to exclude the current record's X value (X values are unique) when I'm looking at the value list. Thus, I'm looking for a dynamic value list that changes based on the current record that I'm browsing. I edited a value list's name, this caused the file to crash when I try to use, delete or edit the value list. The field shows up in the browser saying "value list missing" - I recovered and it reported no errors, but I can't remove or edit the offending value list. Any help greatly appreciated. -magilla

I am developing a database that will be an index for a newspaper archive. To cut down on the errors in data entry I would like to link the Date, Volume, and Issue fields in such a way that the data entry person merely selects a date from the pop-up list and this calls up the correct volume and issue number. How can I do that? The data entry will take place over the web and I am using Instant Web Publishing, so that I can't use any fancy scripts. Hello, I have a value list question. I have a FileMaker file which lists about 250 different locations. Each location is a separate record and has about 10 fields. I then have a separate FileMaker file, which connects everything together, and has a drop down menu listing all the locations as a value list. Now my question is: some locations have a location ID number. I would like to put a text entry field on the second FileMaker file for the location ID. I need to make a report that can lookup values from more than one field, and then return a report that summarizes values from two or three fields in one report, separated by colors, and sizes. Ok i have a pop up list that has three choices...November, February, and June. I have a main form which contains a whole bunch of radio buttons. I want to be able to choose a month, say November, and have the form show up with all the appropriate buttons, yes or no, clicked. So what I basically want to happen is for all the data for November to show up when November is clicked. Then when February is selected I want all the data from November to appear and allow the user to change some answers from yes to no. So when November is selected again...Only the data that was selected for November appears...and so on...This is a report card sort of thing so it tracks the progress …

I have a Contact database and a project database. When data is imported into the contact database, the value list in the Project database will not show up till I close FM and restart the computer. On the network this happens only on the Mac OS 9 computers, there is not a problem with the Windows computer. Is there a way to fix this without quitting FM and restarting FM? Thanks, Rex

I have a strange problem. My client has a filemaker database that filters a value list (materials list) by the type of job selected. The materials are kept in a seperate file. The relationship is working fine except when you tab into the material list field and type in a numberic sequence of a material item number on the 10-key pad, it goes directly to the end of the list. However, if you use the number keys on the main keyboard (horizontally accross), it will go directly to the material item number. Any ideas?

I have a pop up list that is using a value list that is being pulled from a related table. i.e. table is a list of creators and their subject area (some art, some architecture). In the main entry db (holds records for individual images) if an image is marked that the subject matter is art, the field for creator will pull a list from the table of all artists only. Right now there are about 4000 different creators. So- when I click in the creator field in the main entry... it take sooo long for the list to appear. Also, the database is being stored on our server. Any ideas how I can speed up process? Thanks much.

I have two files: Order.fp5 and Customer.fp5. There is a field named "CustomerName" in Order.fp5. I made its format as "Pop-up menu" and used values from Customer.fp5. Now the problem is: there are 600 customers, the "CustomerName" list is too long to locate a customer. What I want are: 1. When I type a letter in "CustomerName" field, it narrows immediately and automatically the value list to those begin with that letter. Then second letter, it narrows again. 2. I have been experiencing some problems with a very simple fm 5.0 database. The problem is that a value list in the database does not seem to save information consistantly. The value list utilizes checkboxes, with each 'value' being connected to three checkboxes. Only one of the three boxes is marked at any one time. The problem seems to be that when I uncheck one box and check another, this change does not always save. I have not been able to decipher a pattern concerning the problem records, or the way in which I utilize the records themselves. I have two 30 item value lists in the same database for fields called "product code" and "variety". The product code is just an abbreviation of the variety and is unique to each variety (i.e. RB is equal to Russet Burbank). When I enter a product code, I would like to have the corresponding variety auto-enter in the Variety field. Is there any way to accomplish this?

Using this solution: I'd like to place a drop down value list in the RequestLog file to choose a SalesRep. Then a second drop down list below that one to choose a Customer. The choice for SalesRep should filter out the choices offered in the Customer drop down list. Is this possible to do given the relationships I have? How would I set this up?
