I, my company, has lost most everything in a fire. My data files are backed up but lost the Filemaker disk. I use version 6 and I need it for 5 users. Should I purchase version 7? Will my version 6 programs work ok? What should I expect to pay for a 5 license package from a reliable vendor? Larry

Hello Intro: I am trying to get some ideas to this preformance drawback. Background: I am using FMP Server 7 and FMP pro 7 clients. There are 38 Databases hosted on the Server. Pluggin: I am using the 24u SimpleHelp plugin - this generates Help Tags for a Layout. Problem: To implement the Help Tags, they have to be set on each layout of each database. Now we are trying to utilize FMP 7 advantage of not opening all databases on opening. However, the 24u Simple Help pluggin requires the file to be opened and run to attach the Help Tags. This is a huge preformance issue on start up. Right now each Database attaches the Help Tags on the opening s…

I recently purchased FMP server 7 adv and was dismayed to learn that my current equipment (2 400mhz G3s w/512RAM) is below the recommended CPU specs. I called Filemaker and the tech guy stuck to the party line and said a G4 or better running at a min. of 500mhz was required. Has anybody tested this out? If I do need a new machine, can any mac types advise on the relative merits of an xserve over a regular powermac G4, and also on the relative merits of OSx server over using the built-in apache server. thanks

I inherited a Mac FM database that they want converted to FM7 for windows. The first 2 files I opened converted fine (dealers and customers). The invoice file is very large 47mb and the conversion starts, goes through multiple passes and ends with no errors. But is also does not create a converted file. Thoughts?

Hi, I've never posted here before and I haven't really ever worked with Filemaker before. The database that is having the problems was designed by my father before his passing. I have just recently updated the database from Filemaker 4 to Filemaker 7 and since the upgrade there have been warning messages that were never there before. They are: - "This record cannot be modified in this window because it is already being modified in a different window" It always comes up two at a time and whatever I do I can't get rid of it. The layout is setup as a button interface where you click the buttons it changes the layout in the window. When I hit certain buttons that is…

In dev6 this script works beautifully. In dev7 it sets the proper fields to create the relationship but the screen doesn't reflect it. I have discovered that if I go to the "Define Database" -"Relationships" tab, click on the relationship and pop open the "edit relationship" window, then exit back to the file, the screen changes to reflect the new relationship. What is that doing and how do I create that effect in the script. I have tried "commit record" but to no avail. Now I'm constipated! DEV6.... IsValid(area#zk_matrix_a1#zk_matrix_ac::zk_area_p) SetField {"zk_area_ag", "area"zk_matrix_a1#zk_matrix_ac::zk_matrix_ac"} Go to Layout {"One Area Of Focus"] …

Edit: I need to clarify the original question. I'm asking about the change to the behavior of the Go To Related Record script step. In previous versions, it did not bring the related file to the foreground. In version 7, it does. I need to have the functionality of this step without bringing the hidden related file to the foreground. Is there a way to do this in 7, or has this functionality disappeared, to be replaced with a complicated workaround? Original post: I have a 13-file database written in 5.5 and I'm currently going through the process of converting it to 7. So far so good, I've figured out several issues so far but I've encountered one I'm stumpe…

Our company currently has a high number of FMP 5.0 DB's with no planned upgrade to 7. That said, we are running the 5.0 server software and need to purchase another copy for installation on a desktop device that will host the files as opposed to our server that hosts the other files (long story). Is the Server 7.0 software compatable with FMP 5.0 DB's or must we purchase another copy of server 5.0? Since we are looking to install the server software on a Desktop Device running Windows 2000 Pro/XP, I see the documentation states there is a 10 user limit. Is this limit valid or can we have 40 users hosting to the desktop device? Is the upgrade from FMP 5.0…

Hello. I have recently upgraded our filemaker from 6 to 7 and a few things are not working as they used to..... One main one is that we have dropdown boxes that are populated with a pair of fields (customer id and customer name). It is set to sort on the second field but under FM6 once the dropdown was selected, a user could type the first 2 characters of the customers' name and it would automatically select the first matching customer. This no longer happens and we are having to manually plough through all of the customers to find the correct one. Does anyone have any ideas :?? Thanks phil

In prior versions, double-clicking a container field launched an audio recording function. Now in FM7, it unceremoniously crashes the whole program. Are sound clippings no longer supported at all? Trying to insert "Sound" from the menu also crashes FM7. On the other hand, using Insert Quicktime allows me to insert and then play an mp3 file. No mention of any of this in the manual's index. Has anyone had these issues? Also, I can insert files like doc and PDF, but to open them requires me to go through a two step export process that saves the openable copy of the file somewhere else. I can't drag files, mp3s or pictures in or out (I used to be able to drag jpegs and s…

This is for a db that is used to record individual daily receipts, called receiptsdb. I have a detail/sub-summary report created in FM5-6 which required the following: 1. A Find of all receiptsdb records in a selected fiscal year (prior to) the currently-selected month; 2. A Sort of this found set, then an Export (FM) of the receiptsdb amount data summarized in 3 ways-to a file called priormonthtemp1; 3. Then an Import of this exported/summarized data into another existing (temporary use) FM file-called priormonthtemp2. 3. Then a new Find in receiptsdb for only the records in the currently-selected month and fiscal year; 4. A Sort of this new found set, then a…

I have a database on an old Macintosh II running OS 7.5 and Filemaker 1.1. I need to transfer that data over to a Windows PC in a useable format, whether it is Access, Excel, FM7, or anything else useable. I have read about complicated ways of upgrading version-by-version, but I don't have a Mac that supports any software that's come out in the past 10 or so years. The database is just a simple address book with around 7,000 records. What is the best way for converting this ancient database to something we can use today? I was thinking exporting to a comma delimited text file -- any opinions?

Hi there, We are a small company currently running our database on FM PRo 5.5 and FM Server 5.5. We are considering our options of upgrading to FM 7 and Server 7 but have been told that there are several incompatibility issues with FM 7 not being able to read/identify FM 5.5 files. One person told me that they had a client who did the upgrade and then had to get a developer on site for 100 hours to manually convert all of their files!!! Can anyone tell me if this is a serious problem. Is it easy to overcome? Is it worth upgrading to FM 7? Also, as FM 7 can now take any file type, we are wondering whether we could use FM 7 as an internal groupware appli…

I am completely rewriting my solution from scratch in FM7 and am preparing to port the data to the new solution. I am in FM 5.5 with about 12 files and will end up with two FM7 files, one with the data and another with all the images ( scanned patient information ). In a few months I need to go live with the FM 7 solution. Being a physician office I have little room for error and my nurses are very unwilling beta testers, when I go live I cannot afford to go backwords to then try and go forward again. They will kill me and good nurses are hard to find. My 12 files are very complex and initial attempts to convert to FM 7 files were not succesful ( too many excep…

I'm currently running 9 solutions, for a total of 46 files served with FMServer 5.5. Each solution have its own files (tables) and have some tables in common with other solutions. Now I'm planning a migration to 7. But what would you do? 1. A single FM7 file containing 46 tables (one file for all the 9 solutions) or 2. One file for each solution plus one or more file for the common tables? ... More generally, developing in fm7, what is the best file-vs-table configuration? What are the advantages of having related tables inside the same files and having them in separate files? Thanks in advance, Paolo

Need some ideas here. I have a fm6 relational db with 7 files. Can I and How do I do the following: I would love to end up with a single file with multiple tables utilizing fm7's strengths. Can I hand create the new single file and 7 tables and then somehow convert and import my 7 individual fm6 files into this new single db of 7 tables (or more occurrances as necessary). Then I somehow need to import my scripts and layouts. No clue on that. None of the documentation I read so far is very good on explaining any of the above. HELP!! Mike

Just sharing a problem solution as I could not find anything on the subject here in the Forums. I had converted a small database from 6 to 7 which had time and date fields to record the time on a single record whenever there was an update of any data in that record. When I started the database in 7 for the first time, the date and time was updated on all 2000+ records. After saying several not so nice words under my breath, I found that FM7 had written the following script and set it to run at startup: # The Today function was removed in FileMaker Pro 7. # The 'Today' field and this script were generated by conversion. # On startup, this script updates the valu…

I am currently considering updating to Filemaker 7 and want to benefit from all the excellent improvements but our current system on Filemaker 7 is enormous containing 127 files. We have just spent a lot of time ensuring that the system is as efficient as possible, renewing many of the procedures. Is there a way on Filemaker 7 to convert a file from V6 in to a table?? I think that I know the answer but I have to ask. I also wanted to check can I define a field in a table when the file is being shared and other users are accessing tables within the file I want to define fields in?? We just migrated a fairly big db system over the weekend. Most things went pretty well. We did a sandbox test a couple weeks before, so we had a pretty good handle on what to expect. First surprise was that there were a ton of bad file refs that needed cleaning up. But we've come across a couple bugs too. One is with popup lists that refer to a value list formed by a related field in another db. In FM6 this is fast, in FM7 very slow. Temporary fix has been to change them to popup menus, but this is not as elegant. Another thing we are seeing is with sub-scripts running from a master script in related dbs. In FM6 only the master script window stays visible, but in FM7 ev…

I am intending to upgrade my entire company to FM7. However, I initially bought one version to test the migration. I was horrified to immediately see that my layouts all became blurry. I have now learned that I am not alone. I trust that FileMaker will fix this immediately or risk losing their Windows based users. I will end any attempts at migration until this problem is resolved or a workaround is available. In 24 hours, I have gone from an avid FileMaker backer to wondering if I should have switched to Access long ago. FileMaker Version: 7 Platform: Windows XP

I had posted a thread about upgrading runtimes last week. It received no comments until this morning because, I suspect most developers don't make runtimes. I purchased FM7 last week and began thinking about upgrading a 20+ file runtime. Guess what? Those idiots require that you upgrade the previous runtime to FM7 before you can import the data. For those of you who don't understand the implications, runtimes are equivalent to EXEs. You can't go back to runtimes and add anything. My imports have always been from one FP5 file to another FP5 file, which when converted to a runtime is now unmodifiable. So, net, I have no clear way of getting data out of my clients' ex…

Not that it really matters for me now since I decided to just remake my whole database solution from scratch to fully utilize FM7, but, Something I ran across when doing a FM6 -> FM7 conversion of my existing solution. In all my scripts, especially my loading script, the Minimize step was reinterpreted as a new FM7 function called Hide. Really caused some weird behavior in navigation. Basically made it impossible until I fixed all the scripts. Not sure if anyone else has seen this.

i do not have FM 7, so perhaps one of you could give me some insight on this. i understand that the file format has changed and 5.x and 6.x files need to be converted. i'm distributing a solution (both runtime and documents only) created with FMD 6. the solution has a special startup script that only runs once when the solution is being opened for the very first time. three questions: 1. what happens if the user didn't convert the file first, but simply tried opening if with FM7? 2. if the user converts the files, does that mess up (bypass) the script that is supposed to only run once? 3. if the user uses the v6 runtime but also has FM7 on his drive, will they …

Hello Everyone I have just received FMD7 and after reading all the relevant migration docs and many posts here I have a couple of questions the "masters" might assist a "grasshopper" with I have a small solution in FMD6, five files, potentially 2000 records not particularly complex but some interesting text manipulation. I have decided to do a straight convert and fix up before going to a rewrite using 7's new capabilities. Change of focus, the solution moves from one file to others and back and the scripts fail "cannot change record as it is being used in another table/ file" or words to this effect. I think this is the issue of commit record - Do…

I'm about to start upgrading to V7 Dev. Has anyone imported data from runtimes made with 5.5 or 6 into V7? I assume that if I use the same binding key and master password it should work, but has anyone done it? Also, I have loads of phone # calcs sitting on top of the entry fields. Did anyone else have their Updater fail? Mine failed in the last half of updating, with a message something like "Updater could not complete", and even a re-install of the full FMP 7 and re-run of the Updater had no effect. So imagine my surprise to find that a restart and opening of FMP (not from the .old archive) works, and shows it's version number as 7v2? First of all, excuse myself for my bad english...I'll try to explain my problem the best I can. I am presently converting a database from FM6 to FM7. There is on relation that doesn't work at all in FM7, but used to work fine in FM6. Here's the situation I have a Company table and an Employee table. 1 company has many employees. There are 500 company and 3000 enmployees. When the user is in the company list, he has the possibility to consult all the employees related to the "current found" companies. Hi, I've converted/migrated about 60% of my solution to the new FileMaker Pro 7 formats. I am stuck on the elegance of one command in my database, the duplicate button, a technique that I learnt from the excellent John Mark Osbornes databaspros website. When you change the name of the file to the which one other you're opening is related, it will show you the classic window that FM couldn't find the file "x". So you can browse and point FM to the new named file. But in FM7 he won't remember the new named and will ask you again about the old one, FM7 doesn't update the relationship, unless you don't enter the File references as administrator and point it from the inside to the new named. This is that good, it lacks you some how the possibility of renaiming the files. I have one database in the which the person that works with always renames the files after the month. Now he can't do it anymore since he doesn't have admini…

Hi everyone! Here is my problem I have a database working in FMP 4.1, and in this one I have to files with a relationship. I use a portal to view the records on the other one, and below the portal i put the fields to resume the results of the portal. For this fields I use a lookup of the subsummary fields of the records beeing displayed on the portal. In FileMaker 4.1 this works fine. I mean you can make a lookup on the subsummary fields of another file, if you sort the records found correctly. When I changed in FM7, something strange happened, the lookup was working again but instead of showing the subsummary of the records beeing browsed, it showed me the total sub…

Hi, I am trying to convert FileMaker 5 files to FIleMaker 7. I have about 30 related files and all of them are converted just fine except one. This file has lots of scripts and when converting scripts FileMaker 7 simply quits. When I open up the conversion log - it ends on "Converting Page Setup Settings...." for particular script - if I delete Page Setups and Print() from all scripts, FileMaker still quits and in the conversion log the last phrase is "Converting layouts finished" I am so desperate - I just don;t know what to do. DO I have to delete all my scripts? I even don't know where is the problem.. I will appreciate any help Thank you

I have converted 14 relational databases to FM7. I went through the conversion with few frustrations but now... To open these databases in FM7 it is really slow. Does anyone else have this problem or a solution to make the initial opening of the data base more efficient?

I don't know if I am missing something, but I cannot seem to find any method for converting a fp6 multi-file db solution into a fp7 single file one. Does anyone know if this can be done, and how? If it is not possible with FM7 without a thirdparty plugin then I consider this a major omission on the part of the team at FM. ("now you can store all your tables in one file", but oh! you can only do this by recreating your solution all over again. ?!* ). And while I am at it, there also does not appear to be any way of duplicating a table within a single file FP7 db solution either. I use a number of basic fields in a "template" table, but to build this in FM7 I will have…

I am currently working on Filemaker Pro 6 Unlimited. I have been working on one database project for my company for about a year. I am interested in learning more on my own and possibly databasing for others but I need to puchase software for my personal use. Which version should I purchase? Will Filemaker 7 be ok, or should I spend the extra money for developer?

I'm helping a client build a call center. They don't have a lot of money, but want to track all calls coming in to the center, so I figure FMP would be the best solution. I have a few questions.... 1. Are there any pre-built db's for call centers out there? 2. To start, I thought we'd host it over the web. We haven't purchased FMP for the office yet, so I'm wondering if I should buy FM6 or 7. How many users will filemaker 6 allow to connect via the web? How many will 7 allow? 3. Am I missing anything?

I have recently upgrade a client's machine from a 9500 to a G3 running Panther so it will network nicely with the rest of the office (Windows and OS X boxes). It doesn't need to do much, but one of the things they use it for is to run a couple of Filemaker databases for clients and such. However, after importing the old FM3 databases into FM7, it prompts for a user and password or gives me the option to view the database as a guest. The original databases weren't password protected. Can someone suggest a solution? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have just upgraded to FMP 7 for Win. I have read the posts about blurry fonts and have installed the updater for 7.02. Still, in the PREVIEW mode, my text looks JAGGED if I try to view it at anything other than 100%! I haven't seen jaggies since bit-mapped fonts 10 years ago! (Yes the fonts are TrueType) Am I alone here?

I have a two file relational database (2 separate files) that I converted from FM3 to FM7. In the first file I have a portal where I can navigate to the detailed record in the second file. I tried to add text to a file, and got the following message. "This record can not be changed because it is already being changed in a different file. This never happened in FM3, and I do not think it happened a couple of days ago in FM7 under OSX 10.2.8. Clicking different records in the portal does not help. Going to a different master record in first file and then back ot the second file does allow me to change the record. Obviously this is not workable long term. …

Does anyone know if New Millennium's Table Consolidation Tool transfers the actual internal field id? I am converting a a solution with several extensive tables. I tried other 3rd party stuff and it hasn't worked. The only way I have been able to do it and get the field ids right is by hand. I was hoping that New Millennium's Table Consolidation Tool would do that and save me a ton of time. Thank you in advance for your time.

Okay, finally they are getting to understand that we need to upgrade to a newer version of FM. 3 is just toooooo old. My question is, how hard of a conversion is this going to be? I have FM3 Server running right now. I want to go to the newest version (5.5?) of the server. I have HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of repeating fields. Now I want to hear this from people who have done it and I want the hard cold truth. Not a sales pitch of "piece of cake". We all know it is NEVER a piece of cake. I will talk to the sales people later after I get some idea of how hard this will be.

I am an employee of a computer retail shop that is looking to streamline their business by creating a BETTER database solution than what they have already got. We do computer repairs and have a job tracking system, but the current database has got quotes, purchase orders, invoices, all the stuff that we no longer need. Is there any job tracking templates around that i can work off??? Any websites, templates, i am open to any suggestion.

Hi, I've created a solution with FMProDev7, it has 6 tables and 100-150 fields in each. Now there emerged a need to provide the solution for users running Win98 in their computers, which means that the solution would have to be made with Dev6. Is there any even remotely practical way to convert a fp7 file to fp5? The prospect of redoing the whole thing does not sound too inspiring... Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Jari V

Okay, to begin rebuilding my relatively large system (40+ files) I decided to start with the main hub of the system, the workorder file. So, wanting to separate my data from my front end, I made two copies of the file, one to be the front end and one to be the back end. In the front end, I was able to repoint the layouts to look at the table in the back end instead of the local table by just changing the table occurence. So now, all my layouts are now updated to look at the back end file, and since the field names are the same, it all works great. HOWEVER, when I deleted the local workorder table (didn't need it anymore!), it deleted all my fields off of my layo…

I'm begining the migration process to FM7 and, untrue to form, I'm actually reading the documentation. I produce a solution that I sell to multiple users at multiple sites around the USA. Updating the solution is a real pain as it requires lots of imports, and/or the use of a "reports" file that draws data from all the other files to create reports. So in upgrading to FM7, my plan has been to divide my solution into two files. One file with the data, and the other with the layouts and scripts. I really love this idea because, as noted, the workaround to produce anything like this structure in FM6 is tedious at best. Reading the migration documentation, t…

Is there any speed advantage to having the layouts in the same file with the tables in FM7? I would like to separate all tables and all layouts into two separate files...but was wondering if layouts accessing tables in a different file were slower. This is important since some of my tables are tens of millions of records.

This is weird. I converted an FM6 file to FMD7 (or it did) and now when I create a new layout, it's invisible (layout text and buttons) in any other mode. What gives? Am I doing something reallly stupid, or is this a bug or a font problem??? I can only see the layout in layout mode. Attached is a clone. Thanks Tripod Clone.fp7.zip

Greetings, One of my clients has Filemaker Pro version 1.0v2 on an old Mac LC-520 running OS C1-7.1. They want to purchase a new computer running Windows XP with Filemaker 6 or 7. I was able to copy their Filemaker files from floppy to a WinXP machine, but I cannot open the file. It says the file was created with FM Pro version 1 and it cannot be opened with version 6. What would be the best way to import from version 1 to version 6? I did see the option to export to Tab and Comma Seperated text, SYLK, DBF, DIF, WKS, BASIC, and MERGE file formats. What's the best approach? Thanks for your help! Regards, Jason

Using FileMaker Pro 7 with Mac OSX 10.2.8, I converted a set of 4 files that were in FileMaker 3. Three of the files are related to a main file on "company id." In the 3 files I get a <File Missing > where Company Name should be. A calculated (concatenated) field shows properly! When I go to the Define Relationship window I am unable to link on the related field. There are no fields shown in any file other than the file from which I open the graphic relationship window. All data is in the files. Layouts are there, etc. If I open each file in a graphic relationship window, all the fields are shown for the "starting" file. What does it take to relink…

Hi, I've waited until the encapsulated postscript resolution problem was fixed before migrating to OS X for my production release of our database. As it was apparently fixed in 6.0.4, I proceeded to wait until after income tax season and walla- version 6 is no longer there! We purchased one upgrade to FMP7 and proceeded to test one file. It opened the FMP 5.5 file with embedded EPS on several layouts and proceeded to print. The !!&**@ program only migrated the FIRST eps object on a layout and converted the subsequent ones to low-res bit-maps, which is absolutely unacceptable! system is 10.3.3 FMP version was 5.5v2 on OS 9.2.2 (which worked just fin…

I am wholly confused by the sales and technical literature. For one thing, I've yet to see a decent matrix chart of features broken out by product. My main concern is whether FM Pro 7 supports XML/XSLT or not. (I'm NOT referring to IWP, Server 7, Server 7 Advanced, Server 7 Advanced Unlimited Super Mega Expensive Ultra!) FileMaker sales info has muddied matters by discussing XML under the FM Pro tab... and then after a sentence or two dragging in the Server 7 name. Also, I clearly remember when Claris dropped features from a FM Pro version and moved them into a higher priced component. So, the question is:

I am hoping that some kind soul could help us to understand the issues associated with upgrading and evolving the computer system currently used at our research lab. Currently we use Filemaker Pro 4.1, and simply open a filemaker database file from a shared location on any of our 10 client machines (running Mac OS X 10.3.3, Mac OS 9.2.2, and Windows XP). There is no automation of any sort. If you need information from our database, you open up the file and manually look it up. The system we are envisioning will have multiple components. First, we want to migrate the 4.1 database into a newer version of filemaker. Once that migration has occurre…

I am using the DataDirect 32 bit SequeLink 5.4 odbc driver to make a DSN based connection. I am successfully able to make a connectin and write into it. ADO reports "Numeric Value out of bounds" for numeric fields an…

I only just got FMP7 a week ago, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the new file structure, changes in field definitions, calcs, and so on. I have a pretty good understanding of databases with multiple tables (having dealt with it to a limited degree in Access), but I had a question: it appears to me that, in a situation where you have multiple related files, now ALL of the layouts have to be in a single file. Is this true? If so, I take it this now means we have to use the "New Window" command to bring up an alternate layout from one of the other related tables? This has me perplexed -- I guess just because it's a kind of jaw-dropping problem th…

I was reading this post about credit card number formatting, and went to take a look at Brian Dunning's "Credit Card Validator" file, which works only with FM5 and FM6. I converted Brian's file using DEV7, and the behavior of the program changed. Card numbers that were valid prior to conversion were now invalid. I poked around the calculations, looking for oddities in the conversion, and found what might be a bug in FM7. If you look at the calculation "HalfDoubledCC" in Brian's file in FM6 and compare the calculation result in FM7, the results are very different. Here's why: In FM6 and FM7, if you enter a 5-digit numeric value into a text field ("field"), a…

Hi Guys, having a problem with a very simple script that will not work in FMP7 whereas it worked fine in FMP6; If(IsEmpty(Invoice Paid Date);Int(Get(CurrentDate)-Invoice Date);0) If an invoice has NOT been paid, the above should return a value equal to the amount of days since the invoice was raised. If the invoice has been paid it should return a value of '0'. In FMP6 the script read as If(IsEmpty(Invoice Paid Date);Status(Status(CurrentDate)-Invoice Date);0) and if the invoice date was also blank then the calculation field would remain empty, however, in FMP7 if the Invoice Date field is blank the sript returns a series of numbers such as '731690'. Can an…

The UPS man is supposed to deliver a copy of Filemaker 7 Developer today. I am currently running Filemaker 7 on a MacIntosh G4 OSX Panther. My database converted fine... I think. At least all my invoicing and customer forms with misc scripts. I also have a plan book I print that has graphics in container fields. They are 300 dpi tiffs. In 5.5 they displayed clear, and printed at 300 dpi, all very nice. Now, I can print a usable book.. very bad. All the images print at 72 dpi, and diaplay very bad, like a 300 dpi can do at low zooms... so I think they are still at 300 dpi. If I re-import the graphic, it now stores it (I think) and prints at 72 dpi. It looks smooth, but prints fuzzy. I can't find any setting to control this, so I can't use the new upgrade and hope I can un-install and get back to 5.5. …

Wondering if I have an easy way out of this crush for installing FMP7 (upgrade)... I am upgrading from FMP5, onto my recenlty recovered OSX machine. Problem this creates is that although I have my FMP5 disks and license ID, it is not installed on my machine (did not install Classic when upgrading to OSX). I'm having problems with word wrap in text fields of some of my FM6 files that were converted to FM7. Instead of occurring only between words, as they correctly did in FM6, line breaks now occur either within words or at word spaces, depending on when the maximum allotted number of characters per line is filled up. The problem seems to occur with files that were created from FM6 and FM4 templates. Changing fonts and fiddling with Alignment, Indent, and Line Spacing in the Paragraph window don't help. I'm baffled. Can anyone suggest how I might fix this odd behavior and prevent the unwanted breaks within words? FileMaker Version: 7 Platform: Mac OS X Panther
