    Hello all, I would like to know if there is any websites that provide nice and good looking icons for database?     I've created a runtime application for which I created the help files as a small website accessed locally. The problem is (mainly on XP, not on VISTA or the MAC) when the user clicks the help button it will not launch the browser. Because the help files include narrated video help files, they would not fit properly in the internal browser. This is probably a security setting that preventing the browser from launching. Does anyone know what and where that setting can be changed. As I stated earlier, it'a mainly on XP and not on all XP. There is no rhyme or reason. On some XP SP2 it works on others it doesn't.     Hi, I'm trying to get a dynamic portal sort to work and it just won't. I've got a global field in table A and a calc field in the table B. THe global holds the name of the field I want to sort on. The calc is a case statement that calcs the field on which to be storted based on the contents of the global field. I've made sure that all the case statements result in text. THe portal is sorted on the calc field. I have buttons set up outside the portal that set the global field using the Set Field script step.   12. My database is set up so that most of the data entry is done with the num pad. I have all the fields set up to move to the next field when the Enter key is pressed, but for some reason, I can't press FMP buttons like that. I'd like to use it for data entry. The user enters the numeric data, hitting Enter each time. When finished, the last time they hit Enter, it goes to a button. They should then hit enter again to push the button (starting a script), and prepare to enter the next record, but I can't make FMP press the button with the Enter key (the Return Key works just fine).     Hi I am trying to create a portal which displays the current found set of records with an alphabetical sub-title (see attached example file). So far I have managed to get the portal working via a relationship to display the current found and have added an additional 26 records to act as alphabetical sub-titles. However I only want the relevant sub-titles displayed when their are corresponding records. I'm sure this could be created via a series of calculation key fields and relationships but have not managed to achieve it yet. So I would like these 5 scripts in this drop down box. So when I want to perform script 1 on record 99 I can pull down script 1 from the list of 5 scripts.   24. I have a value list that is created via a table. The user needs a way to set the value back to nothing (null), after accidentally selecting a value from the dropdown list. How do I do this? I don't want to add a fake record to the table - and even then, the dropdown wouldn't be putting a null value back in that field... I can't allow them to type into that field (and therefore, be able to blank it).     Phone Table contains Extension, Type (Phone or Fax) and Availability fields. I originally input data by Extension (primary key); however, on a related form, I want to filter the portal by Availability, sorting by Type. The portal works with the exception of the Sort Portal Records option. The records are still sorted by Extension. I tried sorting the underlying Phone table, but that did not affect the order of the portal. Is there a condition that causes a portal to ignore the sort specifications?

Unfortunately, it is not as easy as in other cases. The URL doesn’t show anything about the things that went into the website’s fields.     I have 5 tables, all related 1 to 1. I want to display a conditional Value List for Practice Groups filtered by Dept category. If I use an Edit box for the Practice Group, it works. However, the attorney may be a member of more than 1 Practice Group. As soon as I use a Portal (instead of an Edit box), the Value List no longer displays for New records.     I work in a lab and am creating a database where we can store all our information. I have two lists on completely separate layouts, but when I press the new or delete button on one list, an entry gets added or deleted on the other list as well. Is there a way to separate them so I can have them run independently? I've named all the parts of the list different names so they aren't calling the same information. However, both add/delete buttons on either page both run the new record/request script. Is there a way to make this script NOT universal so it only adds a new record on the page I'm viewing?

In order to protect my database and to force users to use the buttons on the interface to close a window (as there are scripts behind it of course), I would like to restrict user access to the default Windows or MacOS buttons to close a certain window. In order to avoid popups in Value Lists, yet display foreign key field rather than primary key, I figured out the drop down menu covered by a non-enterable edit field (thanks to a forum answer) in a simple 1-to-1 relationship. However, I can't make it work in a 3 table relationship where a Popup Menu works. An Employee table holds all employee names and logins (primary key).   43. I hope this is the right place to post this ... Field A calculates a value based upon a related file. It will not update unless I click on the field and then, only for that record. Field B is a summary field totaling field A. It will not update even when field A's value changes as above.     Hi and Thanks for any help. I currently have a value list based on field contents, and I use that value list as a custom sort order in the sort records dialogue window. Lets say the values are January, February, Mar... thru to December. My records are then sorted in this order. Problem is I want to change this sort order regularly. I may want to sort by March, then July, then October, then January and so on. Currently I have to edit the value list every time to customize the sort order.   45. I want users to be able to delete records from a portal which is on a tab panel. The delete button also does some checking for certain situations with the related records. When the script is complete and the user is returned to the original layout the 1st tab is always reactivated. I get why it does this, the question is how to ensure the user is brought back to the original layout and tab. Right now I've got a script written to take the user from the 1st tab to the original tab. I know this is a kludge! Suggestions for the RIGHT way to do this.   47. I applied CF to a field. I had a few scripts that would end with script step "go to field". After applying the cf, A user stated her button wasn't leaving her in that field as the last step anymore.. the script ran and ended it but didn't perform the "go to field" step. I tried, Insert calc.. just to leave cursor in that field, I tried set selection, insert text. Finally the only thing that I was able to do was name the field as an object and then use the "go to object" step. Anyone else encounter this?

  52. we are a post production facility and keep a database of every commercial we make. they are stored on dat as well as wavs and high rate mp3s on an attached drive. i'd like to have the database listings (see attached picture) linked to the actual audio files so i can simply click on a title to hear it. the caveat is that i don't want to embed (if that's the right word) the files into the database or it would become unnecessarily large, i simply want to have the title of each commercial pointing to a location on a hard drive. is this possible?

    I am using a checkbox list to select multiple items from a value list in one field. I then want to have an automatic calculation that applies different numerical values to the selected items and adds those numbers up to give a final score. It is used to calculate a person risk of complications from an operation. The more risk factors they have the higher the final score, but some risk factors have a greater weighting than others, hence the different values for each item. I have the main table, "Expenses" and a related table, "Expense Items" The Expenses table is the entire invoice/receipt, where as the Expense Items are each individual line item on the invoice/receipt.   56. Hi there, Does anybody know how to get rid of the little black indicator strip at the left side of the window when in list view? I don't need it, but as I give my users no access to the status bar on the left, it makes the screen "jump" 2 pixels back and forth when switching from a Search layout to a Results layout. The child records are one per year (as specified in StartDate plus numb_months (the number of months to jump ahead). Records are then created which span this period.     I use a long calculation field to produce a text report from multiple fields. I use a header and footer on each page, and often the text at the top of the page at a page break is "clipped"--I can see the bottom 1/3 of the first line of the text. There is plenty of space on the first page/layout, but on some subsequent pages, a part is clipped off. A vexing problem--any ideas? This happens in Preview and when printed.

I have a membership renewal form that is PDF, is there any way I can import this thing as a layout template, so I can use it as a report for printing and screen editing? The source of the form is a Word file. Otherwise it's a long weekend of fooling with layouts.

I want to get the line number of the location of word based upon the location of the cursor in the field. For example, if the list showed: carrot celery broccoli spinach and the user had their cursor next to the word broccoli the computer would return 3 for line number 3. I had to individually re-size each one to fit their screen. Does filemaker not automatically adjust the layouts to fit multiple screen sizes? Is there an option I need to configure?

We mark individuals by notching the shell in unique locations and assign numbers based on how many notches there are and their location. What I would like to do is create a series of checkboxes that appears on each record entry, and have each checkbox associated with a value.     I am trying to use the webviewer to look at a folder on a mapped drive. It works well, but when I try to open a picture in that folder, i get the following IE error message - running a system command on this item might be unsafe ... i can continue and it launches it - but it is just annoying....     I am working on a very simple database and this is my first time using checkboxes. I am am little confused on how exactly to get data from them, and the FileMaker Bible doesn't help too much. The database I created is to create a list for outdoor activities (I know, I'm a geek).     Hey, Just wondering how a guy is supposed to set up a MySQL table so that it can be indexed. The goal is to get FileMaker to be able to use the data to create a value list. Seemed like a pretty simple requirement before I embarked on this journey...     I am sure this was addressed before but could not find the thread. I have a columnar report that summarizes invoices by customer ID. I would like to have a GTRR button in the body to take me to the invoice. However, buttons don't work in preview mode. If I swich to browse mode I can't see the records. I have redesigned the report in list view, I can see all the invoices but they are no longer grouped by customer. Basically what I need is a report of invoices grouped customer ID with a gtrr button that takes me to the invoice or some sort of a work around to this issue. Thanks.

I want to set a global field to equal the name of the active tab on the nested tab. I was hoping Get ( ActiveLayoutObjectName ) would do the job, but no luck. I've been trying to summarize this information in my layout with two fields - the first to count instances of "EventA, Both", and the second to count instances of "EventB, Both" - and can't for the life of me figure out what to do. Ex: One portal displays all phones/faxes/cells assigned to the related employee. What I've done so far is create a drop-down list for the start of the pay period. The end of the pay period is then calculated based on the start + 13. This works fine. Currently I have a drop-down list for day of the week. What I would like to have is a conditional drop-down list for date based on the day of the week for the pay period. The bottom half contains textbox, etc which is the basically the more detail field content of the records display in the portal.     I have a summary report which works fine. It shows actions taken, grouped by staff and the specific action, and then it counts the number of actions. Each action has a date and I want to be able to filter the results if they fall between set dates. The dates which form the criteria for the report are entered in a custom dialogue box and become variables in the script. I have used these dates to give either a Yes or No result in a filed in the relevant table, the idea being to run the filter if the field says yes.   93. I have an Offices Value List wherein officeID is first field (do not display) and 2nd field is OfficeName. The OfficeID is a one to many relationship. In Forms, the related Office field stores the OfficeID, but I want the OfficeName to display. If I choose to display data from the Offices Value List as a Popup Menu, it displays the OfficeName correctly. If, however, I display as a Dropdown List, it displays the OfficeID (1st field) instead of the OfficeName. I have a zippit script that performs a "Spotlight search option" that goes through a triggered script. The script only finds the "Name" field but I wanted it to find different fields too.
