    Hi Not sure if this is an easy problem to solve? I have a a field on a record which is a drop down value list. I want to ensure that one particular value 'Completed' can only be selected by users if the contents of the 'Client Account Number' match a particular customer and the 'Purchase Order' field is NOT empty otherwise 'Completed' cannot be selected. Do I use validation by calculation or what are my options? Many thanks for your help Rich

    I have a Database that does calculations and displays data for a report. I have a script that does a "Delete all Records" at the beginning so the old report is cleared out, and re-imports data for the new reporting procedure. The problem is that even if there are no records, my Layout is still reporting values in some variables just before I import data. Most reports do not use all the Display variables I have so these "no data" values are still showed. Is there anyway (other than a script step that sets all these fields with nulls and zeros.     Is it possible to have the header not move in a database when in form mode? Similar to how frames work in a webpage, if you scroll down the body, is it possible for the header to just stay put and not scroll down as well? That way you always know what the title is of the record, even if you're at the bottom of it?

Now that we have conditional formatting (or perhaps it was possible before), is there a way to specify a color in such a way that many different layout objects throughout the database are automatically assigned that color? So if you gave a particular event database a different color theme each year, you could change this color once and have all of the layout objects that use the color change to that new color, instead of having to update each background, button, etc., individually.     Hello, I am using iwp to serve a database to many users. I am using tabs for navigation. When the user clicks on a tab the window is not active, with the advice of another post I had to create a button attached to the script "open record request". I was wondering instead of the user clicking the button to invoke the script. Do you think when the user selects the tab I could attach the script to the tab itself.   7. Hello, I have a drop down menu that lists way too many items right now and I want to limit those values listed based on another value in the table. The values in the dropdown are NAMES of projects from my table PROJECTS. In my projects table there is a value of Open or Closed when a project is complete.     I need to archive a lot of paper documents in manila envelopes. I would like to include some information about each project on a mailing label and affix the label to the envelope. I've tried this a couple of times in the past without success. I can't remember what the meltdown was but I recall it had something to do with the particular Avery label I was trying to use. Before I go to the office supply store in search of new labels, can anybody recommend a particular label that's about the size of a business card. The only problem I am having is with the Flight Tracking Report I'm building. The summary/sub summary report is sorted first by Home Gateway, then by Arrival-Departure Pattern, with the body containing delegate information (of not all the sorting functions and that output is working flawlessly).   14. As the topic implies, I am wondering how I can achieve this. In case you were wondering why I want to use an Iframe, the answer is simple. My supervisor wants to integrate the filemaker-interface into our intranet web-interface. However, whenever I try to display the fm-webinterface through an iframe, the cgi-script overrides the iframe and the page automatically resizes itself to fit the browser's entire window..   16. Hi All. Please bear with me as i try to explain this! I have a report layout that I need to create that will replace a paper form currently in use. The form allows for the inputting of several fields for an invoice. The fields are repeated 4 times on the form to allow for 4 invoices. I have my database created to where the invoices show up on the recreated form in the database, but the fields only show up for the related invoice records. For instance if there are two invoices, you will see the fields for both, but the form will not show the blank fields for two more invoices. I also have a portal item that allows user to enter many records associated with the text box I just described. How can I update records in the database to reflect the text in the text box item and have it associated with each portal record being entered?   18. I can't seem to get the 'Undo Formatting' menu item to work correctly in my custom edit menu. Let's say I copy a block of formatted text from a browser and paste it into a text field on my database. In a 'regular' edit menu, immediately after the paste the 'Undo Formatting' command would appear at the top of the edit menu, which I could then select to clean up the pasted text. The Undo Formatting command would then change to 'Undo Paste', which could be used to...um...undo the paste. When my custom edit menu is loaded, the 'Undo Formatting' works as expected, but instead of seeing 'Undo Paste' next, I actually see 'Redo Formatting' instead. Hope that makes sense…

She does not want to click on a button to get to "add a new value" to the list, she simply wants to type something if it's not in the list and have the new entry automatically added to that value list.     This is so weird! I have a database that has about 3000 names. Every time I have a layout with a merging "first name" field, all the names turn out to be fine except one "Elizabeth" is always in a smaller font than the rest.     Is it possible to hide a button based on a condition? I know you can 'hide' things in various ways by covering them up or using a container calculation. However, I not only want to hide the button I want to make sure people can't click on it when it's hidden or at least that the cursor doesn't turn into a hand. I have a table where we can 'set' records. The idea is that we enter a record, set it, and any changes from that point on are tracked.     I am working on a layout that I would like to prohibit editing to, once signed. What I'd like happen is the following: When a new record is created, its status is defaulted to "Open".   46. I am trying to search an inventory file. I've included a field for Jewelry Type ID. I am using an unrelated file which has an ID field and a name field. I've set the value list to draw its first field from "Jewelry ID" and the second field "Jewelry Name." Then I set it to only show the second field. It only shows the first record. The only way I can make it work is to use only the first field, "Jewelry ID." But that won't help the user, picking from "1,2,3,4,5,6, or 7." I can't figure it out.

    Hello! In a multi portal layout, when I run another script, I can keep a portal row visible in a 10 line portal even if it is the 25th record, with the Go to Object/Go to Portal Row steps. The only thing is that it puts that portal row at the bottom of the portal. Is there any way to "freeze" it, so the user is always looking his record in the line of the portal that it originally was?     I have a leading grand summary in a layout that shows standard fields (not summary) from a related table. In the Leading Grand Summary only half of the fields are editable for some reason? Ex: the fields in the lower half of the LGS are editable and the fields in the upper half are not? All records come from the same related table, and have a one to many relationship.     Hello, I have a layout that has many custom dialog boxes. Is it possible to have a scroll bar included in a dialog box to accommodate various amounts of text or simply format the box so all of the text is in view without manually resizing the box on the lower right to show all text?     Hello. My layout consists of a portal on a table alias NAVIGATION. it's an alias for DATA which is the layout table too. I linked navigation to data on STATUS = cPORTAL_FILTER Portal Filter is a global field. I placed data.portal_filter on the form. Going to brouwse mode show an empty portal. Only if I enter something in cPORTAL_FILTER I get a message that the field isn't editable. There is also a link on the tables on order id so when clicking in the portal the clicked record is displayed.

    I'm using a variation of Ray Cologon's Portal Sidebar Navigation System. I added a navigation bar at the bottom of the portal. My problem is that in order to get the portal line item to show the related record in the main screen there is a container field with a script step attached to GTRR. So when I click on the portal row it activates the GTRR and shows the related record. However, when I click on 'Next' or 'Previous' on the navigation bar it only goes to the next portal row, but does not activate the GTRR. I tried a script with a script parameter to mimic this, but, I get unreliable results. Any ideas how I can accomplish this?

I have a noequi join between the Consultant TO and ConsultantTime and I only want to show a drop down list of consultants with a particular customerTypeID. I think I have it but it still shows every customer type. Any ideas what I am doing wrong. The database is a Consultant Time and Billing solution. I have attached the database for review.     I am stumped by this one and am wondering if any of you out there in cyberspace might have some suggestions. I have three databases and in the third I want a field to show a popup menu listing values from a value list in database 1 and all the values from a value list in database 2. The values of the popup list are not conditional...just show all of the field values from field TextValue1 in Database 1 and field TextValue2 in Database 2.   65. Hi all, I have a FMP database that tracks artwork for a London gallery - images of various pictures and information about them - all fairly simple and straightforward. One thing I'd like to do, however, is to drop a big red SOLD graphic across all those images of pictures that have been sold - leaving those unsold images just as they are on the main layout. It'll need some sort of script that, say, if the buyer_name field is empty then the image remains as is - but if that field - or another chosen field that means the same thing sale_date or something - is filled then the SOLD sign drops in somehow across the image, or becomes visible across it.   66. I need to query a web site by entering an account number, then hitting Submit. I assume that I need to intercept the HTML query as it submits in order to build my URL for Web Viewer. How is this normally done? Is there a utility for MacOSX that will help, or can it be gleaned from View Source on the HTML page (form data is there)?   67. I have a series of 7 duplicated layouts, the first of which shows 1 pixel shift of all field and text when moving from layout number 1 to any of the other 7. If I check the fields and text with "object info," the numeric referents are exactly the same. If I use the T-square, the pixel shift is apparent. I can't figure out what makes this happen.   70. I'm working with a series of pages inside a web viewer. On the final page I display a subscription ID that is returned by PayPal's system. I need to get this ID value into a field in FM. GetLayoutObjectAttribute("SubscriptionBrowser" ; "content") gives me the source code of the currently viewed page in the Web Viewer. Similarly, GetLayoutObjectAttribute("SubscriptionBrowser" ; "source") will give me the current URL of the web viewer.     I want to print an addressbook for my filofax, pages are 3 3/4 by 6 3/4. I want each letter to be a different page so I can use the letter dividers. I know I will need to do some sort of letter sort, but don't know how.     I changed a value list to contain different custom values. I replaced some values and deleted others. The field that uses the value list is formatted as a checkbox field. I assigned new selections to each record in my found set, but when I exported the data from that checkbox field, it had both the old custom values and new values for each record. How can I change a custom value list for a checkbox field and replace old values with new ones without completely deleting the field and recreating it?

    I have a portal that show me records from my main DB. We are a printing company and I use it to show me all of the jobs that are printing on a certain kind of paper. So in my header, I choose a paper type and the portal displays all records which match. Each record in the portal also shows me how many sheets I need. I want to find a way to total all of thos sheets via the portal. Is this possible?

    Hello Board! Thank you for all your advice so far! I am trying to build a very simple data-capture program that is only 3 fields. However, i would like to use a touch-screen monitor and remove the keyboard. Is there a way for me to build a 1-9/0 keypad on the screen, so when i touch the buttons the numbers come up into a specified field? I would like to publish this on the web and serve it through an intranet and i'd rather not use the OS built in 'on screen keyboard'. A nice and simple 1-9 pad is all that is required.   83. Hello, I have a container field that holds a pdf file (reciept/invoice) for my expense record. The db will be published to the web. Currently, when the user opens the pdf file a copy is saved to the user's desk top. Is that the only way a user can open the file? If it's saved to the desktop? The user's desktop will become swamped with pdf files. I just hope there is another way. Please advise!

    Hi everyone, I wasn't sure where to post this so here goes. I have a solution that tracks jobs. My field people enter information about functions that have been completed and what is left. It also tracks revenue and cost. My problem is that my boss needs to view what he calls a dashboard where he can see a list of all the jobs, what has been done and what is left with all costs and revenue. This means a layout with hundreds of jobs and with the exception of the job number, every field is either a calculation or summary of all the individual functions. It is unbearably slow! I can make the WindowName function work in two ways, neither of which matches what I read (and what I need) as described in the help file.     Has anyone else come across this bug with which involves Headers Pop-Up Menus and Table Views? It is basically a redraw issue, but the pop up menu seems to move, because when I click there it doesn't respond. ( See attached image...     I have a container field that gets populated via a script using the 'Insert File' script step. The file gets placed properly, but, I can not open it from the container field. I thought you could click/double click the field and open the file. Also, can't you use a variable to place the file. I tried that as well and I get a box to highlight the file instead. I have a drop-down menu with options "beef", "pork", "salad", "fruit" and a radio button set with options "meat", "vegetarian". If the user selects "beef" or "pork" from the drop-down menu, I'd like the radio button "meat" to be automatically selected.
