Hi All, I have a problem with "Open URL" when I connect to my DB using open remote file. What I did is made a file (Table::File_Path). Now when I click a button"Open URL" that will point to the file_path Field and open a .jpg document. It worked fine locally, but when I Turned on the sharing and connect the other PC using remote, the Open URL do not work anymore. Is there other way that I can open .jpg files that resides in the host PC. Or can anyone suggest of a script to do this. I wanted to post my file but its big. Thanks in advance. again newbie forever

Hello Hello! I am current running a simple PatternCount calculation that is based on a dated entry. ie: when date field is plugged in with a value "8/6/2006" , the PatternCount looks for all entries beginning with "8/6/2006" and counts accordingly. It is currently working without fail for a 'single record' even though the date field is global. What needs to be done to insure that all records (even though they are updated with the new date value) are recalculated accordingly? Without the need to calculate every individual record. I have the following script: Enter Find Mode [] Go to Field [“Today’s Date”] Paste Current Date [“Today’s Date] Perform Find[] If [“Status(CurrentRecordNumber)=0] Perform Script [sub-scripts, “Import Names”] End If All works well EXCEPT if there are no records I get the nasty message after Perform Find “No records match this request.” I have to click “Continue” then the rest of the script is completed. Hi All, I need a script that will give me a warning based on due date. For example: The due date is (September 1, 2006) Current Date (August 12, 2006) Three months before the due date I need the DB to warn me July 1, 2006 a warning "Reminder" text in green color One month before the due date August 1, 2006 a warning "Warning" text in yellow color Two weeks before the due date August 17, 2006 a warning "Urgent" text in red and blinking Then a check box that the user will check if the task is already delt with. Hi, Is it possible to add the number of input fields with a custom dialog box? At the moment I've it set up a new custom dialog box opening when I complete the first. Hi, I have a script that exports records to a csv file. after it has exported it displays an OK dialog. The problem is that sometimes the previously exported file might be open already, thus resulting in the "file could not be created on this disk". It then proceeds to the OK dialog. How can I exit the script once this error comes up, instead of it coming up with the OK dialog? or make it display a "process failed, please rerun" dialog? thanks

Hello. I have a textfield "Test" and a textfield "TestFill" In "Test" I can write whatever and "TestFill" it will "mirror" "Test". What I want is to make "TestFill" automatticly be 15 characters, even if "Test" is 8 or 15 characters. Hi There In my script I have set a variable '$var_department' with the value of a field in my layout 'department'. this field is a drop down. For some reason the variable is not taking the value of that dropdown, is this a bug? If the department field is a normal text box it takes the value fine, any ideas? Regards Ben

Is there any way to program a search so that it only searches the first letter of each record. For example at the moment when I search for companies beginning with 'I' in my database I get 'Aggregate Industries' because of the 'I' in the second word. Is there anyway to stop this? Thanks.

I need to copy some information from one database to another. I only need a few global fields pulled but i would like it to do it automatically after text has been entered. For example, if a record has been created, I would like a few of the fields to be automatically pulled from that new record and thrown into another database all in the same process. I have been given an almost finished database and asked to make so dramatic changes to it so this is long and complicated so please bere with me, ok there are 4 tables details, courses, accom and invoices. So I'm working at a client with a large contact database normally sorted by "zipcode". We want to print out a few hundred records at random (so i figured I could just sort it by "name" and then print out however many we need) but then we want to organize it by "zipcode" again and see which ones have already been printed. Is there a way to do this? Is there a better way to print a randomized list and then mark the records printed? I'd also like to know if there is any way to not show/sort items without a zipcode. I want to copy specified fields between tables in a single FMP 8.5 file, to consolidate data into a unified report. I don't want to use an external file (messy), and I need the process to work for remote as well as local users. I can kludge together a solution using a local variable and the Import from File statement, or Applescript (very slow), but is there a more reliable, high performance way (perhaps a plug-in) to move data between tables of the same file? Hi there. I'm super new to Filemaker. Trying to learn on my own...where have you heard that before? lol I have two sets of check box info. Ideally I'd like both fields filled out, however if 2 certain options in the first set are checked, the second check box field does not need to be filled out. I would like to use a script on file open that uses the account to determine the starting layout. I want guests to get one layout, users to get another and admins to get a third. I tried get(accountname), but it returned the account name for my machine rather than the account name used to log in.

The first 'Asset Inventory', is a source for 'product Units' this is a finite quantity of 250 types different types 'unit' that will be used on a project by project basis over a year - not all of these types of 'units' will used. But several projects could overlap. so I need to check 'stock' on all 250 units on possibly a daily basis. My goal of this script is to import records, then run a loop that checks the existing records to see if the "Serial No." matches a duplicate record. If there is a duplicate I would like a custom dialog to come up saying "Please check File for duplicates" and exit the script. If there aren't duplicates I'd just like the script allow an import. I am a bit new to the ScriptMaker processes, and I tried using a loop with an if else but didn't have any success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

a corrupted script in filemaker 8. It's impossible to delete, to edit or to copy or to check the menu-option field. "the script is not existing" means the scriptmaker. All other scripts are o.k. - only this one, I can't handle with. Maybe that this one doesn't exist now, but the title name of the script is further in the script list - and I can't delete it, only this one in the list! I'm a novice in this program. Where are the masters of filemaker - has anyone an explanation of it?

I started out with FMP8 Adv a few months ago and have very little programming background. I'm just learning as I go so forgive me if this is a stupid question. I've spent many hundreds of hours on a solution and decided to give it a try in a multi-user environment. I found that When user A has a file open and looking at it with a certain find, and user B opens the file and does a different find, it changes user A's view. Does Server fix this? I was under the impression that filemaker worked just fine in a peer to peer environment. Thanks, Mel

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help. I'm building an image library and I need to be able to check (ie set a field to true or false) if an image exists on a remote server over the internet. eg http://www.site.com/folder/subfolder/image.gif The best solution I've come up with so far is call a shell script that will download the image locally, check if it exists in a specific local location and return yes or no, then delete the local copy. Is there potentially a one step, cleaner solution? This is eventually going to be part of a loop trawling through thousands of images, so the cleaner/faster, the better. I'm using 8.5 Pro on OS X 10.4.7.

I want to be able to process a field containing a carriage-return-separated list of keywords, keeping only the ones that match a value list, but also storing the ones that didn't match into another field. FM8 If I'm in find mode I can do a find request in a timestamp field by entering, for example, >01/01/2006 08:00 AM and it will find the appropriate records. I want to do the same thing in a script where I have set a script variable = to a timestamp value. I enter find mode set field (timestampfield; ">$$scriptvariable") perform find It doesn't find the appropriate records and if I leave out the perform find, I can see the timestampfield is not filled in. When a developer is accessing the schema of a served file, thus locking the schema to all other users, the New Record step will not work, it stays in the current record and returns error 303. I understand that editing schema on a served file that is currently in use is bad practice and should never be done, I don't make a habit of this. Is there a way to have a script run after a field is changed and curser moved out of that field? I want to prevent the user from having to hit a "go" button after making a change to a field to initialize a script. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not new to Filemaker and I don't see that that capability exists at all, but I may be wrong so I have to ask. It seems that a script run upon field change ability would solve so many things.

I am writing a script to query a layout and i have to fields one called from and one called to tehy both conatins dates. In the find it supposed to return all the values who of customers who will be arriving (date in arrival field) between those two dates. I tried using a range but it won't let me use a field.

I am encountering a serious problem and I cannot find which error message to use: I have scripted record creation for some of my tables by overriding the menus. However, if I am defining fields in that table and a user runs the script that creates a record in that table, it gives them a error message....does not create the record but continues on as usual with the script. when a user enters a date of birth into my date of birth field i have a calculation field called age which displays their age which is set up to be green if 18 or older, orange if 17 or red if under 17. is it possible to set it up so if the age is 17 aswell as colour change a message is displayed to the user and if under 17 it is not allowed.

In Dev 6, is it possible to script an export (on a PC) which would go to either the user's desktop or their documents folder without any other user interaction? I'm not that familiar with PC file hierarchy, paths, etc. and don't know the variables and possible scenarios I might encounter from user to user. I think FM8 has a new function Get(Desktop Path) but since this is a FM6 runtime, that doesn't help me at all. Thank you!

It might just be me, but is there anyway to suppress a "file reference not found" dialog (usually presents itself when a file reference can't be located on start up i.e. over network link). I would like to catch for this error so that i can output to a log file - the log file isnt the hard bit, it's just i can't work out where to catch the error (set error capture[on]) doesnt seem to work in this case and seeing as what i am trying to do is a critical unattended task on a "robot" machine, i can't have the dialog holding up the rest of my process. I want to set up a list of each person who modifies a record and the timestamp that they modified the record. I currently have a field that show the account name and one that shows the timestamp of the modification the last time it was modified but I want a historical display. If I can also have the script record what was modified that would be great. Can I get some direction on how to set this up? Thanks, Scott

Does anyone know how to trigger an AppleScript on a networked computer that is not running FileMaker? I have a PrintServer that FileMaker prints files to as a remote USB printer. I need to trigger a sound on the PrintServer whenever FileMaker sends a job to one specific printer (we have three printers on the PrintServer). I assume that I will need an AppleScript that is triggered on the PrintServer whenever it prints to the target printer.

Need a little more help. Was wondering if anyone out there knows how to assign a serial number to multiple records using a script? Ideally, I's like to search for records with identical criterial and click a button and give those records the same serial number. Any thoughts please?

I am using FP7 and I am new to writing scripts, please bear with me as I try to verbalize my question. I would like to create in one table, Table A, a button next to each record that would run a script to paste that record's data, from one field, into a field in another separate table, Table B. Hi All, I've got a situation where i need to isolate all records with the same value in a particular field. I.e. locate all duplicates and act on each set of duplicates individually. e.g. Rec 1: 0421223223 Rec 2: 0421223223 Rec 3: 0412311311 Rec 4: 0412311311 Rec 5: 0412311311 Rec 6: 0422102123 Duplicate values are in Rec 1 & 2 and then 3 & 4 & 5. I need to be able to isolate records 1 & 2 first for example, act on those (i.e. delete 1) then isolate the next set of duplicates (3 & 4 & 5) and remove 2 of those so only one remains. FM8A, FM8.5A When I try to drag and rearrange my scripts I am getting a screen redraw error. The script that moves is not the one that I am attempting to rearrange. I also see a duplicate name as I am dragging the script. I am experiencing the same problem on two different computers. hi ive got 2 quite large tables; one with some 65 000 records, the other with nearly 5 000. now i need to check the 65 000 one to see if any of those records already exists in the 5 000 pile. im using a $id = $id2 type of script with 2 diffrent loops, one looping first through the small script, and then exiting back to the other loop, which lopps throught the big one. both commiting after the last record. this takes forever, anybody know how to speed this up?

hi, i'm not sure if this is possible or not, but what I'm trying to do is update the display of a specific field whilst a script is running. basically, i have a script that consolidates a lot of records. on the layout that the script is run from is a merge field that will display "consolidating record 1 of xxx". The contents of the field are updated by the script as it progresses, and there are a liberal number of "commit record" script steps, but the best i get is that that the field clears (as happens at the start of the script) processes (the busy/esc cursor) and then says "complete" (the final step), but nothing in-between... Anyone?

I have been working on this problem for weeks. I desperately need help. I have tried Scriptit, Troi Activator and Dacons ScriptFire. The first 2 were difficult at best. Scriptit lacks documentation, Activator was causing my application to crash so I finally tried Dacons ScriptFire. I must say their sample files and documentation are superior to the other two. Hi, A rare but potentially dangerous problem with the Go To Layout script step, just wondering if anyone else has come across this. The Go To Layout script step has been known on occasion to go to the first layout in the file. The layout is explicitly selected in the step so its not some calc problem. The step works fine in testing and on a day-to-day basis. The first layout in the file has ID 401 (which is not the lowest ID in the file) so it's deciding on first layout by layout order (rather than by ID). I have only just noticed that a custom dialogue box can be dragged to a size other than what I thought was 'standard' This has now thrown me a bit cos I want to use the increased space that is available to me but I am confused because I do not know what will happen to my other dialogue boxes. Will they adopt the new size that I have pulled out in the last message. I have done a test and another new one does but an old one doesn't seem to. I obviously know how to renumber a field in a particular database using Replace Field Contents. However, I need to "renumber" a related field called CompanyID in the Companies database, but have it change its related CompanyID in the Employees database to be equal, so relationship is not lost. In fact, there are several databases where related CompanyID resides, and I need all related databases w/ CompanyID to update as well. How do I do this? I need a script that will go to a related record (from a portal), using a layout that actually exists, showing only related results and then check if there is any foundcount... if not, it should create one and come back to original layout, if there are any, do nothing and come back to original layout. The problem is that on the "Go to related record" line, if there is no related record, I'm still on the original layout, and the foundcount returns the foundcount of the original layout, not the related one... Is it possible to use the Open URL script step to automatically login to FMForums? If so, what is the URL syntax? Although I've just started exploring this aspect of FileMaker, I've had good success in opening websites using URL's defined in fields. It seems that a calculated URL could be constructed along the lines of: "http://www.fmforums.com/logon?userID=" & Table::UserID & "?Password=" & Table::Password Maybe this is common knowledge, but I wasn't able to turn up any relevant posts with several searches. hi i was just thinking. i have created a script that sends emails to all my contacts with the lastest news on my front. it does so by looping through all my contacts, send a new mail for every new contact. now, if the power goes out in the middle of me running this scrip, what would happend when i restart filemaker? would i have to rerun the entire script or would it continue wherever it got aborted? i wouldnt like to send the same mail twice, or rather i dont want my contacts recieving the same mail twice... thanks

Hi, I'm using the error capture script step. In my script I'm exporting. I know this will fail if another user is exporting at the same moment. The Error is 800. However even though error capture is ON I still get the system error message from File Maker. The message is not being "captured" by the error capture. In the help for error capture it states: ON: suppresses FileMaker Pro alert messages and some dialog boxes. So is this a case where the dialog box for error 800 is not suppressed? Is there a place that showes which error messages are suppressed? Is there a way to not display this error message? Thank you very much for any help on this

hi, ive got a database with a contacts table, and a notes table, which im putting together using emails. the idea is that when ever i get an email i download the mail to the database (by first exporting it as an excel file and then importing the info i want), keeping track of all my contact and all my notes. now, the thing is, whenever i get an email from a person already in my database dont want to rewrite his/her info, nor duplicate it, i just want to stick in the new note. now i know how to find the person in my contacts table (matching email-adresses) but if im going to do this for every person in the contacts table, every single time im putting a new note,…

hi again still on my mailproblems im afraid... ive got a list of contacts that all need a follow-up mail sent to them. the thing is that i dont want to send to follow-up to close to the first mail, i need to wait a week before i send it. so the way i was thinking was like this: when ever i send the first mail i take tha date and email adress and stick it into a table (time_check). when i then go to send the follow-up it first checks the time code, and checks with the current date to se it a week has passed, before sending the mail. when th efollowup has been sent the old record is erased and a new one is put in its place. the thing is that i cant the time_check…

I'm having a problem with a script in a new database. The immediate issue involves 2 tables, "jobs" and "pages". These two tables are related by a "job_number" field in each. The script begins by creating a new record in the "jobs" table, and prompting the user to fill in certain fields. The user has two options at this point, to continue or cancel. Continue continues to the next step of the script, while cancel reverts the record. The next step of the script takes the value from the "Total Pages" field in the newly created record in "Jobs" and creates new records in "P ages". having some trouble with a loop i created... im running the loop to find a sertain varible. if it finds the varible i want it to break on the record the varible is in, and if it doesnt find the variable i simply want it to create a new record with the new variable in it... as of right now i get it to find the variable, and break, but i cant get it to create new a record! help please...

In a runtime solution, and without any user interaction (except triggering the script), I would like to be able to script a tab-delimited text export with the name of the file dynamically assigned through a concatenation of a couple of fields. This may not be possible within FM Dev 6, but maybe someone knows of a plug-in that which could provide this functionality. Thanks for any input!

I have a button called "New" which creates a new record/request. However, I'd please like to know if we can promt/notify users that a new record will be created once the "New" button is pressed...The notification/promt will be "Do you want to create a new record with two buttons. This one should be simple...I hope, I just can't get it to work. I have a global field with four repetitions. I am creating a script with a Set Variable of $$AddCompare where it's value is the field with the 4 repetitions. In the "Set Variable" box I have set the value of the variable to be MultiItems:Item Number. I set the repetition to be a get(ScriptParameter). I have various buttons that use the same script with the Set Variable, and each of this buttons sets the Script Parameter between 1 and 4. But when I click on a button with Script Parameter 2, the value of the repetion it gets is from the repetition 1 field. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? …

Hi Gang, Without boring you with too much detail, is there a way to automatically run a script on all connected clients of a database. For example, I have a peer to peer networked file. If I set a field on a table with 1 record to a specific value, I would like (with the help of the free EventScript plugin) to execute the script on all the connected stations. I am working on trying to integrate two separate files. I am able to GTRR and then a script in the other file, and I do this pretty frequently. While developing my solution I am working in a restricted access folder on my company's network. Both files will eventually be places on a FileMaker server. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for me. My problem is that the scripts will usually work on my machine, but when I go to another one, they sometimes get hung up or become very slow. All the files are in the same folder, so the file references are not the issue here. So far I have found that I need to close the other file, before I GTRR and open in a new windo…
