I've been using an FM 7 send mail script with Outlook 2003 that worked fine. I replaced my hard drive and reinstalled everything. Now when I execute the send mail I get one of two errors; if Outlook is not running I get a message that says "Not implemented." If Outlook IS running I get a message "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. A program error occurred. Quit Outlook and Microsoft Windows then start again." When I press Esc to stop the script it crashes Filemaker with a buffer overrun. Any help appreciated. Tom Street

I'm sending automated emails containing an http link. (See below for specs on what I'm using.) In the sent mail message on the originating server the link is intact on one line. The received email appears to break the link in the same position every time. The receiving platform or application doesn't appear to matter, they're always broken. I want to show a message to the user on the click of a button if the field contacts any alphabetic character. This field should contain only numbers ranging from 0 to 9. From my investigation, I have noticed that FileMaker Pro is internally taking care of this and if we enter a value "1eg2", if I use trim(gField) it takes 12 and omits "eg". What's going on with send mail? Surely, there has to be a way of formatting a records worth of data so that it doesn't looklike a telnet message or even worse, a network response from a BBC Micro - this is the 21st century. We need nice looking emails to be generated from a record within FileMaker 1. Tabs - surely we can actually email a layout 2. Right Justified and decimal tabs 3. Hi... I'm very new to FM, and am not sure I'm approaching things correctly. I am stumbling on three issues: 1--If I pull a related file into a portal and try to send to all the emails that show, only the first email appears on the "To:" line. 2--My ISP only allows me to send emails in batches of 20. Is there a way around this? Is there a way to take the data in a some of the fields from a particular record and put it into series of text fields with a coherent formatting (that can be accessed within that email script) so as to avoid sending the record as an attachment?

I've seen a repeatable problem where the Send Mail script will blank out or delete fields (e.g., subject, body) in a Eudora stationery-based email. I assume this is not unique to Eudora. Desired behavior: Use the Send Mail script to have FileMaker initiate and send a batch of new emails in Eudora that are based on a stationery document. I thought this would work great because the stationery-based email can include any formating Eudora supports (color, images, etc), and then simply let FileMaker insert the email address or subject. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can get information from a field and place it in a sentence in the body of the e-mail. We have an existing Filemaker marketing database of about 30,000 contacts. If a user does a Find that produces 500 contacts in the found set, how do I get the found set info (First Name, Last Name, e-mail address) into the CNS Mass-Mailer database so we can send an HTML newsletter to those 500 contacts? Perhaps there might be a solution to my problem, as it does not seem that bad. I have FileMaker 6 and Outlook 2003 installed on my system and whenever I try to send an e-mail, I get this nice warning message from outlook if I tell filemaker to send it without dialog, and if I try to send it with dialog, it requires a user to click the send button. Does anyone know how I can automate this process so that filemaker can send an e-mail instantly without having to wait or require user input. I'm trying to create a custom distribution list using a button script. I have a project management database, which contains about 8 tables of data. Three of these tables contain email addresses (for the project team, clients, staff). Often, I find myself copying and pasting email addresses from each file/field in FMP into Outlook. I use Send Mail to send email from FileMaker to Outlook Express and I will get a New Message window from Outlook Express. If I close the window without sending email, a dialog box from FileMaker will appear on screen saying Send Mail has been canceled. Do you wish to continue with this script? Does anyone know how do I skip this dialog box?

we have a fm db that we try to finish it up first on our fm db and later on move it to eudora to tranfer emails, but on filemaker it does not copy the colors and layouts, etc. can we have a way to do html on filemaker so when we send it to the email client like eudora, it will copy all the colors and underlines (formatting) of the message?

I've got my tech. support request DB set up with CDML/HTML pages on our intranet. When a techie enters or changes a record, he's got the option to email the updated ticket to the user. However, I'd really like to track how many times a record has been emailed. I'm a complete novice with FMP 6 scripting, so I'm totally in the dark here. Also, if my DB has a STATUS field with two options, PENDING and FIXED, how can I track how long a record has remained NOT fixed? I.E. - This ticket has been active for XX days. I am using Juno for my email. If I use Send Mail with To: , Subject: and Message: designated, I get the subject and message OK but no address in Juno. If I use Open URL with the following:(for example) mailto:[email protected]?subject=Registration I get the email address and subject OK in Juno. I don't remember where I got the syntax from. If there is further syntax that works, I don't know what it is. I have written a program that compares invoice.txt files to the cost files the customer expects to pay. I can import the files as delivered and all works well. Is there a way to automate the function of saving an Email attachment to a specific sub-directory? We may get 70 to 100 files a week and I don't want to open each email and save the attachment manually. They all come from the same place and we know the filename and subject text. So I've gotten to the point where I can successfully send e-mail using a template that takes the name and e-mail address from a record and puts them in the appropriate fields and creates a lovely, individualized e-mail in Entourage. My problem is that when I modify the scripts to "Use all records in found set" (in the "Send Mail" specify dialogue in the To: field), I get nothing. Hi, I want to give my users a functionality where they can select a value from a pop up list so that everytime whenever user does any search or show all records function, my script would sort the records in the found set based on the value selected in the pop up list. These values are nothing but the field names. This is just an effort to keep something dynamic. I tried creating a global text field and a value list with some field names. Hi, I have Unlimited 5.5 and serve about 30 databases for the web. Just recently for no reason I can determine the ability to send email has suddenly stopped. This is effecting about 6 of our database web solutions and I have people on our campus who depend on this email to notify them that a new record is created. Our networks manager has noted that full details of the trace show that a normal TCP connection is established, just as in the working case - but that the FM machine just closes the connection. Hope SOmeone Can Help, I am Currently the HOST of a Filmaker Data Base that other users are logged into. I have a simple "Email Button" which when pushed, executes Outlook, puts the email address in the "TO" Field, Etc. I use this often to email customers right from their database. Works great except, when I am in the middle of writing the message, Other people that are sharing with another File I am hosting cannot do ANYTHING. MacOS X 10.2.8 (and 10.1.5) FMP 6.0v4 with WC 6.0v3. I have major problems sending e-mail through web Companion. It was working a month or so ago, but it has broken. No changes to FMP computer config, but some changes have been made to the corporate e-mail system. The mail techos reckon the changes should not affect anything. I have a database on a server that is shared between 4 workstations on a local network, all running win 2000 pro and FM7 v2. I have created a script that will send an email of specific fields to one email address via a calculation. It works great on three of the four workstations... however on one station it will freeze up the application and workstation when the email is sent. Outlook is the default email application and if you send a email just with it, it does fine. The only issue is when email is sent via the FM Script. Same script works great on 3 other stations. I am new at FM but know enough about computers to realize that the possibilities are virtually endless. I have several docs that I formatted as a layout. I use these forms daily to input data from our clients and contacts. Almost daily I need to email these forms. Currently I'm using MS word to input data if I need to mail it, and FM if they want it faxed. Is there a way to add a button to this page that will enable me to email it to a client, and have it in either word or pdf format? Hello. I was wondering how to have data from an email message go to a filemaker database? For instance, I need a user to fill in a web form, then have the data they input to go to my email, and then somehow have the email contents go directly into the database, and have all the fields match up. I can get the web form input to be emailed to me, I just don't know how to get that email to go into fm. I would prefer this to happen automatically, without any user interaction. I have some print layouts in my fp5 files which are distributed all over my organization mailing them manually. I am looking forward to make this process electronic. I need that whenever the user clicks on a send email button on the layout, a pdf file should get created internally and an email using microsoft outlook should pop up infront of the user, with the pdf file newly created as an attachment to the email. Which version of MS Project to use, is not yet fixed but we will use the most recent one. Hello, The send mail script step doesn't seem to be working in filemaker 5.5!! Neither on mac osx machines running mail.app as their default client, or on windows xp/2000 with outlook as the default client. My test script has been set so the dialog box should be displayed when the script is run, with a test subject and body entered but the e-mail application's new message box doesn't appear. I know how to email using FileMaker. There is a problem however---a miscommunication with Exchange, that is making life difficult. I tried Reed's suggestion of emailing directly from FM but that won't work for me because I have fields that need to be merged into a form letter in the body of my email. Can't do it in Word because Word won't let me add merge fields to the subject or address. Is there a program out there that will: ~ merge fields into static text (form letter)? AND ~ use an email address from my FM exported records (NOT from my email program's address book!) AND ~ allow me to put both static text and a merge field in the subject line? Anybody??

Hi Everyone, I have a document in which there is a text field which is of certain width and if the text entered is big enough then some text cannot be seen on the print of document because of the field size being small. And if there are five records and I print the number of records in the found set then the status(CurrentPageNumber) function is returning the correct value on each print. It is showing two pages in this case with five records. When I run a script for a button to auto email with an attachment and i push the button nothing happens. when i take the attachment out of the script, and i hit the button - the email works fine. BTW - im doing it with the dialog, but have tried with an without. what am i doing wrong? thanks!

Hi, I apologize for asking a question at a very basic level. Could someone please let me know how many files can be hosted by FMServer 5.5 and FMServer 7 simultaneosly?. And how many users can work on the same fp5 file simultaneously if we are using Filemaker Pro 5.0? Also, there used to be a link in filemaker pro website to compare each the latest filemaker pro product(now it is 7) with any old product. Is that link feature still there? I've never understood how e-mailing from filemaker works. This is what I want to do: Exporting found set of records to a tab-seperated file Attach the file to an e-mail. Send the e-mail to an adress difened in the filemaker file (then import the attachment in another solution). Want this to work automaticly (it's in a runtime solution). Do I need a plug-in for this? If thats the case, which is the best one?

When I make up my script. To, From, Sub, Body and click the net compatability box the step greys out. How can this be fixed? I searched and did not find a mail.ini file on my system. Also when running the script. Only the subject and body are correct. Thanks for the help

I am using the email script step in FileMaker 6. Everything works as expected, however I can not get the created email in Entourage 2004 to use a signature. Has anyone else seen this? Michael

Hi, I use SendMail function but every time I run the script my emails appear in my Outbox in Entourage 2004 and stay there even if the Send and Receive scheduled every minute. It gives me an error message: "Script is attempting to send a file....Do you want to porceed?". As soon as I click OK to this message - it is sent. I want to automate this process so those emails are sent when user opens the file but it is impossible till the user clicks OK to that warning in Entourage... Also does anybody know how to automate this process so that FM sends emails every week at acertain time, not when the user opens database? DO I have to use Applescript for that and if yes - …

I have just notice that when using the send email in filmaker it opens up a black message fine but doesnt add in any signatures....is there a way to add text into the email being sent? This probably sounds so simple but I've been trying all day and cant work it out. basically I have used the sendmail script to build myself a mail message... and overall it works... the text is there, field are in the right place etc... I have one problem remaining Some fields eg first and last name were originally entered in the database as lower case... I want them to appear in the mail as titlecase... can i do this? eg my message starts "Dear " &client::name& the name john graham appears as originally entered in FM... all in lowercase. Hello. We are currently using SMTPit on two Mac OS X systems running Filemaker Pro 7. Unfortunately it Crashes Filemaker Pro several times a day. I've contacted the developer several times for a fix, but sadly it ain't happening. I like what SMTPit does when it works, but I need to find a more stable alternative. What is out there? Thanks.

Just curious... We are sending out emails using FMP. Now in using this, we need to open a url inside the body of our message. How would we pull that off in FMP. We've made a work around using CDML & PHP, but I'm sure there has to be a way to do it straight out of FMP. Any suggestions?

I am using one of the proprietory ODBC driver to access DB2 data located in a server at a remote location. I am developing this application on my local machine and have installed the driver on my machine. But when I start hosting files from my machine, the import script step fails to run from any other machine because it does not have the odbc driver installed on it. I tried creating the System DSN but it is not accessible to the other machines. Is there any solution by which I don't need to install the drivers on each workstation. I have clients currently using FM 5.5 on Macs, with Scripts set up to send email through Eudora. This script includes an AppleScript step that auto-queues each email, so the user can simply go to Eudora and send all queued. We are about to move to 5.5 on a Windows XP OS and using MS Outlook. What adjustments can I make that will allow my clients to run email scripts for 100 or more records and not require any one-by-one send action from the email software? Is it possible through Outlook or current versions of Outlook Express?

Generating a multiple-CC-address email using the Send Mail script step in FMP7 works - but the addresses are separated by a semicolon (:, not a comma (,) as was the case in FMP6. This appears to cause Eudora to fail to parse the whole string. Is this replicable by others? Can I change the ; separator back to a comma? There seems to be no mention of this in the update guide. Incidentally, multiple-BCC-addressing does not seem to work at all for me. (Jaguar platform).

I am trying to find an easy way to analyze and process Bounced emails that we receive in response to our mass-marketing emails. I have POP3it and can read the emails into FM but it is difficult to extract the email address(es) and code a standard reason why it bounced into our system. It is difficult because there is no standard way that the bounced email is formatted. I want to setup a process which will read all the bounced emails, and update our marketing files by email address. Has anyone done this before? Or do you know of a plugin that provides this functionality? Any help is appreciated.

It seems that running MS Exchange will give some options on FileMaker that will make my life easier. However, it supposed to run on the server itself, and we try not to run software on that. I use my own machine to host our main database, and store them on my hard drive. I store any dbases that are single-user on the server, along with all of our other files. If I install Exchange on our server, will this still work out? Also, does anyone know if Exchange is very demanding - will our system suffer for using up those resources? We are using Filemaker Pro 5. Our application allows the users to send emails to more than one person. This email is to communicate to the concerned person that his/her name is assigned to a particular record for review purpose. We are looking for a functionality where there should be a link in the email itself. Clicking on which, should open the filemaker pro database with the same fp5 file. Filemaker Newbie question. I am looking send html emails from Filemaker. I don't understand why this is not a built in function... in todays business world, sending emails that look as good as possible and are as flexible as possible is extremely important. Anyways... When I got a new machine with OS X Panther, the send mail script in FM 5 stopped working. The FM Help file says with Mac OS X you need to set your mail client with the "Internet system preferences (Mac OS X)," but Internet system preferences no longer exists on Panther; rather you set the mail client from Mail. I know this has probably been mentioned a hundred times. I've looked around, but having found much. Can someone point me to a good explanation on how to email from within FileMaker? Basically, I have a layout that is a receipt. I'd like to be able to mail the contents of that layout to an email address (one of the fields). I just installed Eudora 5.01 on my Mac last week. I selected the "send immediately" option in the setup, but when I use the Send Mail from Filemaker, it queues the mail until I go into Eudora and manually send it. Is there something that I'm missing here?

Hi We send drawings in pdf format with orders Now we attach pdf files manually to the mail in eudora (mac os) that filemaker generates.Under windows outlook you cannot do this because outlook sent mail direct. There is also possibility that a user attaches the wrong pdf. Hi, I've struck an email problem. The Sendmail step works for me with Outlook Express, Outlook and Eudora. But a client uses Lotus Notes and every time they try to send via Lotus Notes, Filemaker crashes. (Filemaker 5x, Win98). Has anyone encountered this / found a solution? Thanks Denis
