    I have 3 tables: Designer, Styles, Messaging The Designer table has a portal containing records from Styles matched by DesignerID. StyleID goes from Styles to Messaging, and in each record in the Styles portal on the Designer layout, I want a portal displaying the matching records from Messaging. However, currently, the second portal shows ALL the records from the Messaging table, as opposed to the ones associated by StyleID. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    In a container field, is there a way to have a single page PDF display as a image on a PC as it does on a MAC. The benefit is the PDF is vector so printing is very sharp and file is small.

I wasn't sure where to post this so please forgive me if it would have been more appropriate elsewhere. I have a simple report that I created using FM 11 advanced. The report is on a dropdown from the layout menu. When I view the report is contains all the proper formatting. When I place the databse on the server and the endusers view the report for formatting is gone. Any idea why this might happen?  My view that has formatting is the attached file named HomeCenter.jpg  The image the endusers view is attached and named HomeCenterNoFormat.jpg  This is my first stab at creating a report so it is extremely rudimentary...  Any ideas on why this is h…

  5. I am using FM 12 adv v01 Is it possible to design a menu and then 'group' some menu items by separating them from other menu items by using a special menu character like '-' ??     Hi. I am looking to "grey out" a screen as I bring up a custom dialogue box. I have tried to achieve this by having a dummy field covering the whole screen that is normally transparent (no fill), upon opening the custom dialogue box, I set the fill (through conditional formatting) to be 50% grey. For the most part it works, but what happens is that on the main screen is a tab control box, and this seems impervious to this method - even when the dummy field is brought to the front. Can anybody offer an explanation, a fix, or an alternative method to achieve this? It's purely aesthetic. Thanks, Greg

    Hi all, I have a script that performs a number of find request and the last request I want to limit to the first row of a portal only. At the moment the script steps are: Go To Field: (selects the field in the portal) Go to Portal Row [select;First] Insert Calculated result( Enters the request data) Perform Find. I have tried moving the Go to Portal Row to the third step but get the same result. What am I doing wrong ?

    Hello all I am in the process of creating a contacts database with 2 layouts (CONTACTS and DONATIONS). On the CONTACTS layout is a portal which shows the data from 4 fields - Donation Date, Donation Amount, Receipt Number, Donation Use - from another layout (called DONATIONS) in the same database.   10. Hi, I think I must just have some weird setting in place but I can't for the live of me find it. Every time I set a number field to display as a percentage it shows it as a percentage times 100. For e.g. If the number in "general" format is 40, and I set it to percentage it changed to "4000%". It's clearly only a display issue, as if I change it back to general it displays in the original format. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I've tried the same thing in a new database with the same result, so I assume it's a preference in FileMaker.

    I have a school administration application. On a Staff page that shows a Teacher's record, I have two portals. On the left, the portal shows a list of the Courses taught by that Teacher. Clicking on one of these portal rows displays the Students taking that Course in the right portal. A button next to the Student's names takes the user to a screen where he/she can enter the Student's grade for that Course. My problem: on returning to the Staff page, I've lost both portals' focus (they've both returned to line 1).     I am using FM 12 Adv v 1 (v3 is too buggy) My app, when running in Windows has this characteristic: If the user 'maximizes' the FM window and then maximizes my app window, when the app opens a new window, it causes the app window to shrink to it's "pre maximized" size. Specifically, in debug I can see that it is the New Window ["Reset Setup"; Heigfht: 10; Width 10; Top 3000; Left 3000; Style Document] command. Any ideas? I can easily make a portal from my main database table to a child table using the patient ID as the related field.     I have a portal that all of the records are showing the same information as the first record. The table holding the portal is called Vendors, and the portal is built from Purchase Orders. When a purchase order is added some of the fields show the data from the first record, such as Image, date, etc. However, some show from the correct information. I've noticed that the fields that are being repeated are ones from a related table Styles which is related to Purchase Orders through Style ID. I don't really understand why this happens?

    Hi, I saw an example a couple of years ago in the forums but can't now find it again I know I can filter a portal based on a global, but can't work out how to show all. i've found things about putting a calc field "all" & ¶ ... but it seems this when the global is set by static value list ... my global is set from a dynamic TO I'm presumeably missing something I think the original example had something like filtering sales based on (US) city and 'show all' obviously took off all the filtering thanks cate (still on FM11 in case FM12 has some advancments)

In reading the FTS 11 book, p. 4-29, it comments how with drop-down lists, using the show-second-field only option, that after the selection, the original value (usually a keyfield) is the one that shows. It suggests using an non-enterable opaque related field that contains the values displayed as the second field in the value list. Currently, I'm developing on my Mac and then porting it over to a Windows 7 laptop for testing (FM 11.0v2 for both).     I have two examples where I would like a result and I've never been able to figure out a good way. Some of you are incredible on reporting so I want to check in for ideas please: 1) Can same report be used with or without a body? I create reports with many leading parts and then by sorting, it only groups and summarizing those parts. This is a great way to use the same layout for multiple reports. But if someone doesn't want the body, it seems I must duplicate the report and delete the body and maintain the two layouts.   27. I use a text box 'I declare variables' placed at the top of a layout and the bottom of the stacking order to declare variables that I display as merge variables. The technique was mostly pioneered by Comment and Mr_Vodka and now it has become one of my favorite techniques. But 12 does not respond as 11 does in this regard. Two files attached (11 and 12) - created in 11.0v3 (Windows XP SP3) and then dragged to 12 icon. 11 refreshes without script ... 12 requires a Freeze Window to force the refresh.     Hello, Hope some is able to help me out here. I run a business, of which I track almost everything with File Maker. Is what I want to be able to do is take all the invoices from 1 month, add up the total and display that, and also be able to display the total number of sales for that month. I then want to put this onto a graph. They way it is setup is we have used the Invoices starter file, and then heavily adapted it from there.   31. The new button states in FM12 are awesome but at the same time they are driving me a bit crazy. I find myself spending a lot of time trying to clear out unwanted settings that are inherited from the theme. Is there a shortcut that I can used to assign the same button state to all of them (e.g., Normal State, In Focus, Hover, Pressed)?   33. Maybe I'm missing something totally obvious here, but why do the fonts behave so differently in MacOS and Windows with regard to styles (bold, italic). On a Mac you'd choose a separate font face such as Arial Bold Italic for example which on Windows in the same database is going to be rendered as just plain Arial. On Windows you have to select the "i" and "b" buttons to achieve the same effect, however on a Mac this becomes plain Arial with artificial bold and italic effects applied (definitely not the same thing as a true Arial Bold Italic). So for instance a text field for inputting your first name would say "Enter First Name" in light grey, and when you click in the text box the watermark message disappears so you can start typing your name.     I have a Go app that utilizes signature capture for placing on some docs that get exported to PDF's. The problem is that if I scale the container field down to fit on the documents the signature is so light that it can just barely be seen. Even when viewed on the layout they are very light. Is there anyway to make the stroke bolder at capture time on the Go? If not, does anyone know of a way to possibly manipulate the captured PNG inside of the container (adjust contrast or something similar).     I have a master layout where I am entering Books and multiple Subjects per book. One book has many subjects. Through a Find on this Master layout, I come up with a subset of records (Books and Subjects) that I need to run a Report on. My Report is another layout where I want to use the Found records to show each Book and its related Subjects. Each layout works perfectly by itself, but using a Button on the master layout to go to the Report (using GTRR or Go To Layout, etc.), the Report isn't using the Found set.   46. I'm stuck on this issue and not sure how to describe in a search so here is my post. setting up a new layout (see layoutmode.jpg), all the fields are arranged nicely and are perfectly sized. Once I switch to Browse mode (see browsemode.jpg) everything is stretched out (it seems to be 100 px long vs 19 px as it is setup in layout mode). Also, everything looks like it is stretched the exact same length (despite most fields being set to 19 px).     I'm in the design phase of a database and have a question. I'm not sure if portals are the answer so this might be in the wrong place. My situation is similar to a dictionary: some of the larger dictionaries will have a discussion attached to a word definition, showing how a word and its similar words vary and how to use them in different situations. Now, I do not wish to start a new page with every sub-summary, as each one is only a few lines, but if it is going to break the page, is it possible to just move that sub-summary to the next page?

    I am using FM 12 Adv I have 3 fields: [startDate] [EndDate] [Duration] Duration is a calculated field that subtracts StartDate from EndDate and if ENDDate is blank, substitutes get(CurrentDate). This works. Problem: If [startDate] = October 20, 2012 and [EndDate ]="" then Duration = 3 days ... ok ( [EndDate] uses today's date.) But, when I start the program tomorrow, it still shows 3 days when it should show 4 days.     I am using FM 12 Adv. This button is composed of 3 parts: "Add Patient" text, a + graphic and the green rectangle. I 'grouped' all 3 together. I decided to add some 'custom style' to this button. I choose yellow for "In Focus". The problem is that when I put the focus over the button, each of the 3 elements 'lights up' as I pass the mouse cursor over it. Question: "Since all 3 elements are grouped as 1 element, shouldn't the Custom Style apply to all elements as if they were one ? Thanks Ron

    Hi all - haven't been in for a while, but new job - convinced them FileMaker was the way to go; so a new database to build... I have a tabbed layout with a number of levels (each contained under a top structure of tabs - Time 1, Time 2, Time 3, etc) containing a total of nearly 500 fields at time 1 (and drawn from a Time 1 table). As mentioned I then have multiple time points (30 in all) that contain the same information (just the next time point along).   72. By default in Table view, layouts show a series of fields in the top row, followed by field data in subsequent rows. In my case, that's too much horizontal scrolling to easily compare the data (there are relatively few records, but many fields). Is there any way to transpose the layout so that fields run down the first column, with data shown in additional columns to the right? I know this is similar to List view, but List view only shows one column for data, not multiple data columns.

In relation between the two tables, one Stamp is labeled as a certain Type. There are 9 files in the solution, hundreds of layouts and there are two accounts that I want to use the full menu set. I have created a script that checks the account name and runs a script with the install menu step as needed. Each file has a copy of this script. So, if you have a window that setup to show records in list view and you sort those records, FileMaker automatically re-sorts when you modify the data in field(s) that the layout is sorted by. My parent table includes 2 portals with data from 2 DIFFERENT tables.   92. We have a solution running in v12. Its a robust solution that is heavily trafficed. Oddly, on one of the machines (running 10.6.8 and FMP 12.2) data is not appearing in a couple of filtered portals. The exact same record and layout on a different machine (running 10.6 and FMP 12.1) the portal data does appear. If we turn the portal filter off the data suddenly does display. The offending filter reads: tic.LIN_Lines~RentalsOnly::zkf_ItemID ≠ 28286 and tic.LIN_Lines~RentalsOnly::_zkfModel ≠ "BSKT" It is filtering out a specific type of line item and product. Is there a known glitch? Any one have any thoughts?

    I have a table called 'Processes' - which holds the steps for completing each 'Process' I have a table called 'ProcessSteps' which are attached to each process. Each process can have many steps attached to it.   94. I've noticed a big change in the way FM12 handles larger layout objects in comparison to fm11 in a listview. FM11 prints the whole object even if the object is bigger then the layout section the object is placed in. FM12 doesnt put crops off the layout object to only be visible in the top-most section of the object. This prevents me from using large images, background images, vertical text, certain column graphics etc. I havent read this in the behaviour change list from FMI or saw a forum post, but i might have missed it.   95. I have three small tables People, Households and Households2People. Households contains a numeric field, boolean format called, removeFromValueList. Those households where the removeFromValueList check box is checked should be excluded from the value list that appears on the Households2People portal (from the context of People).     I have a report, that a field 'Comment' sometimes has many lines, sometimes none. I looked into sliding objects, but it doesn't seem to match what I need - or I didn't do it right.. If the field height has to increase, I only want it to for that record, not for all records, which in turn increases the spacing. Can someone please lend some advice :D

Running FMP11 and have set up a product database consisting of two tables related via a number field; the article number. The first table holds all of the information about the item, the second table only holds information about the name of the supplier, the price and stock. The value list is set up as a related value list showing only the values (names) from table 2 (the supplier table).
