Script Workspace and Script Triggers

I am working with my co-worker, trying to make new databases for our new boss. The only problem is, neither of us have had to go "behind the scenes" on fm before. As we are learning, we are getting more confused about what our old boss has done with the db. We have 6 databases, that we want to open all together. Old boss had it set up where we opened "ART2006" and 4 db opened with it. Does anyone know how to make the 6 open togehter?

Okay, I am sure this is a simple question, but I can't figure it out to save my life. I need to be able to omit records from a found set in a script. I have the find and everything else related to the exporting, saving, etc. but I don't know how to use the constrain found set in a script to omit. Can someone help me? Please??? My client has two FMP10 files running on his server — File A which has the data and the relationship graph and B which has some new layouts. Intuitively I know it must be possible for a script in FileA to go to a layout in FileB, but I can't get my head around how to actually do it. The Goto Layout script step shows only layouts in FileA with no obvious means of presenting current layouts in FileB. Brain dead this Tuesday morning.

I would like to display (generate) the dates (weekdays selected) between two dates in a table and then use these generated dates for attendance on each of these days. Example: The school term starts 11/9/2009 and ends on 2/19/2010. I would like to check (select) the days the class will be scheduled and enter the start and end time. I am using a web shopping cart that can export the orders in to an excel format from which I am using to import in to filemaker pro. I am tying to Filter my list view with only results that are not marked "Complete" I have a status checkbox field that shows a tasks' status (received, assigned, estimate complete, work complete, etc.) I want to use check boxes so we can see the progress of the case, and if I use radio buttons, when its completed I can't see if it had been quoted, declined, etc. When I go to list view, however, I want the layout to only show a one word summary of the status. The problem is, what order they are clicked in affects the order of the result text, but I always want the last item in the list to show up as status, and not show any that are already completed. I have been reading all I can on creating scripts, and I'm afraid its making me feel quite dumb. I am trying to have certain fields in my DB to auto fill based on the user that is logged in. I have a "personnel" table that has a user name field, which I am trying to link to their login user name, so any info may be auto entered based on this - ie. it will fill in their full name, email, rates, etc. from the personnel page.

But it cant be removed, the script is still there, and Filemaker prompting the script can't be found or has bin deleted??? Hi, I like the table view because the user can change the size and order of each column but in the other hand ther are only a few configuration parameters for this view (or maybe I can't find them) 1. I've spent sometime researching this but can't find the solution or answer; is it possible to automatically execute "Continue" in IWP when running a script with multiple pause/resume steps? What I'm trying to achieve in IWP is background navigating and printing from three different layouts: Go To Layout 1 then Print Go To Layout 2 then Print Go To Layout 3 then Print Go To Original Layout I know that script step "Pause/Resume" is not IWP compatible, nor is "Print" and "Print Setup". Hello, I am wondering whether/how I can use a script variable in another file's script. By way of background, I have a database with individual sales records, and a salesperson ID is associated with each sale record. I have a separate database of salespersons (salesperson ID and demographic data). My goal is automatically to loop through the sales records, sort them by salesperson ID, then "save as pdf" for each salesperson so that they can see the details of their sales. I need to make a script for the people in my office that will ask if they are sure they want to close filemaker 10 when they hit the X at the top right. They keep complaining that somtimes they close it by mistake and it closes down everything without asking them. Hi I have a record with Name, Payment_date and Payment_ number. When a person gets paid the payment date is inserted next to their name. I need a script to insert a number starting at one in the payment_number field. So now we have their Name, payment date and payment Number. If I now make a new record, may be days later and use the same person again when they get paid I want it to insert 2 into that records payment_number field. So every time they get paid the number is incremented by 1 on that record related to that persons name. This must work for other people in the database as well. Any ideas? Thanks

I built a script that takes data from a number of different fields, converts it into simple HTML, pastes the aggregate information into a single text field, and then exports that text field to a file on the desktop. It all works quite smoothly. However, there's a problem and I don't know where it stems from. If I open the exported file (which has an .html extension, btw) in my web browser it renders correctly. If I upload the exported file to the web site and then open it, I get garbled Chinese characters along with a few random strings of Roman text. This one has me stumped. We use a particular numbering system for our invoices (different from our Order ID). Just wondering how to make this an auto generated thing. So, if I was to do some invoices for today, it would look like this: 02-1001-10, 02-1002-10, etc. Now let me explain the numbering code: the first 2 digits are the current month followed by a dash. The first number after the dash is the office ID (with our office being 1, and the others being 2, 3, 4, etc. no more than a single digit. Problem: I am attempting to create a work around for not allowing users onto a server if they have a "User Name" setting in the Preferences > Application greater than 20 characters. It turns out that some individuals have long user names which is crashing our FileMaker Server 5.5 application. Hi, I do a search between 2 dates on my invoice layout. I then print the invoices. I need to assign the current date on the invoices as they are printed. Hi, I am trying to work out how to perform a find based on the contents of a field but cannot for the life of me work it out. Okay, so I have two layouts: StudentDetails and MainPlacement. The field named 'MainPlacement' on the StudentDetails layout holds the same text as the 'PlacementName' field on the MainPlacement layout. I want a button on the StudentDetails layout that, when clicked, will use the contents of the 'MainPlacement' field to go to the relevant record in the MainPlacement layout. Hi...I created a script trigger to perform actions when a selection is made from a pull down menu inside a portal row. The source table is called Projects and the portal source table is called Assign Client to Project. Everything works perfectly until the last steps: Go to Layout [original layout] Go to Field [Projects:status] I used the pause/resume script step to watch what is happening, and it does actually go to that field but doesn't end there. Instead when the script finishes, the cursor ends in the field that is the beginning of the next portal row from where it began. Any ideas? Is there a way to provide a script step to reset the size and location of dialog boxes? I have users that use multiple displays sometimes and the dialog boxes do not necessarily follow the active window. I would like to put such a function in a startup script to at least give users a fresh starting point.

I run a script on exiting my database. It checks a field "provisional_booked" for a date and then checks "job_Confirmed" If "job_confirmed" is empty and "provisional_booked" has a date it puts up a custom dialog box saying "There are jobs for tomorrow which are not confirmed. Would you like to see them?" it inserts the current date + 1 into a date field so it can check the next days jobs. My boss wants it to, on a Friday check Mondays jobs. any ideas? I'm having a problem searching for all records with dates after a certain date. I enter FIND mode and then use Insert Calculated Result using the following: ">" & GetAsText(memberships::newsletter thank you date). Ok this is driving me crazy! I have tried every single thing I can imagine for a number of days and I have no idea what is going on. Whever I use the "go to field" function in a script it does NOT work. I even tested it with the simplest of scripts...having it be the only step...and the result is always the same. It does not put the user in the specified field...instead it puts them in the field AFTER the specified field. Does anyone have any ideas at all about why this would be happening? Hi, our job sheet has a Job_number field which is incremented by 1 every time a new job is added. We have 2 buttons "provisional" and "Confirmed" The boss want the Job_number field to be blank (I.E. no job number assigned) unless you push either the "provisional" or "confirmed" button. Of course the job number would have to be incremented by 1 on the next record. any ideas?

In my never-ending quest to make data consistent in our solutions here at work, people have entered proper names all kinds of ways: all lower-case; properly with initial caps; all upper case, and some people with a combination of both. What I'd like to do is create a script or custom function to clean it up so if a user hasn't entered a name in a Name field, a custom function/calc will format names correctly to initial upper-case letters; if a user has entered a name, regardless which case the letters are in the name would be formatted correctly as well. Hi everyone! I am creating a rotation schedule for employees in an 8 hour shift system. I want to send an individualized PDF of our database as an email attachment to all employees highlighting when and where they have to work. I set up a looping script that saves the individualized PDF to a temp path and then creates an email with the PDF as an attachment. Everything works fine except that some of the time the attachment is missing in one or more emails. The weird thing is, that every time I do the script the attachment is missing in different emails. (Note: Platform is actually Win 7 64 bit) Can I use Send Email when my default email client isn't a Microsoft product? I use a program called eM Client and get the "no email program associated" error message when trying to use this script step. (It worked fine several years ago when I was using FM 5 and Windows Mail). I'm trying to get a number applied to a portal row that is consecutive but resets for each new record. I'm probably going about this in the most difficult way... but I can seem to get anything to work. I tried setting a field to Get (PortalRowNumber) but it returns as 0, I've tried applying some sort of "@@" function to a row but you can't sort by that. I'm thinking I need to do something similar to: Go to Record/Request/Page [Last] Set Next Serial Value [Table1::Invoice ID; Table1::InvoiceID + 1] Please see attached file for a better visual of what I'm trying to do. Still new to FM. I have this application and am trying to make a popup window work. This popup window code is being used in another layout which basically has a user clicking a button on the layout and it pops the window. The problem is that on execution the sequence blows right through the pop and displays the wrong layout in the popup. The first bit of script is the main one that runs when the user clicks the required option button. The second bit of script is the pop window. Any assistance is appreciated. Regards Michael

We are in need a script that will take the operator to the next related record. The found set cannot be constrained to related records only, so in the stack of records there are related records and unrelated records. Some how we need to set up a 'next' button that will take the operator to the next related record, skipping over the unrelated records that might be in between. Any suggestions? Thanks in adavance.

Hello! What is the error capture number for "Can NOT save file/find path to save file"? I have my solution running off a server, users connect to it remotely. I have a invoicing script that creates a record, in my script I have it save a PDF. of the invoice onto the hosting server. This works GREAT! But you have to be connected to the server or the file will not be able to save. So the problem is, users connect remotely to the solution, but that does not mean they are connected to the server. So when user runs script invoice, the save feature will fail unless they are properly connected. How can I prevent this problem? I'm thinking I have a few routes to …

I have a field, that opens to a calendar, to input when a student needs to renew their CPR training. Can someone tell me if you can set the HEIGHT and WIDTH of the NEW WINDOW script to a 0 or Negative number. I'm setting up a storefront file. I have a bit of an idea of how to do what I need, but I'm just not quite there, so I'm looking for ideas. I have a cash register layout that has a couple tables related to it. One is for items being scanned for checkout. (That will feed the invoice table.) Here's where I'm stuck - Let's say you buy 3 of a certain. I don't want the same item 3 times on the list of items purchased. I want it so that if I scan an item more than once, it shows the quantity as 3 (or however many you bought). Hi all - I've recently started replacing all the plug-in based script triggers in our solution with FileMaker script triggers. I'm using the OnLayoutKeystroke trigger and I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to prevent the character that's associated with the keystroke from being entered into the current field. I'm using a seldom used keystroke("`") to bring up a pop-up window and I don't want that character entered into the field. Thanks for any ideas!

Ok, this one seems simple yet my dumb mind continually gets stuck finding a way to script this, so any help would be great. I have a simple Filemaker database, with one table "predictions" containing 17520 records. There are only three fields: "date", "time" and "predicted value" If everything is ok, every record's "date" and "time" values are supposed to be all equally seperated when sorted, so that there is always one hour difference between them. Happy New Year to you all! I am writing a script that will export field contents (a picture) of the current found set. The way it is currently written, it will export each picture, but you have to choose your output path and hit "Enter" to export each file and move onto the next one. First my question is, how can I make these files export to the user's desktop automatically while retaining their original filename? We are sharing the database on FM Server, so I'd like it to be a universal script. Or if worst comes to worse, I can hard code the output path for each person exporting pictures as long as they don't have to hit enter after each export. Second,…

top of the year to everyone! i have formatted my checkboxes as a button so that the cursor does not visibly enter the field. each time i click on the box, the status is supposed to toggle just as it normally does (with its ugly framed look i want to avoid). i pass the field name or object name as a script parameter to enter the correct field. with the debugger i can see that the correct field is entered, but when the script gets to the "Set Field" part (the actual field name is not specified, only the value), nothing happens. why is that and how can i get around it? btw, the same field formatted as an edit box works.

I have jpeg images of all of these and the path to the jpeg is held as a field in the table. I am having an issue with a date to text function. At least thats what i think it is (I dont know a great deal about FM.) We use the script Middle(DateToText(Today,7,1) & Middle(DateToText(Today,8,2) to make the begining part of our Folder Numbers. Which would result in something like this 911 (9=2009, 11=Month # NOVEMBER) HOWEVER since it has turned 2010, it has changed to 001 Which seems right, BUT that was the very first Folder Number when we first started this program. Hi, I created a database that is being used in a multiuser environment. It has a table with a auto-enter serial field, and a primary key that is calculated in a script using this field. Entries to this table are made from several workstations, and later during the day, they are revised by a supervisor, and either accepted or rejected. Rejected entries are deleted. Hi, I have a database which records transactions against companies. On the companies Layout I have a button to add an employee which takes the user to the employee Layout. The problem I have is that each employee is allocated to a company and once on the employee screen the user has to select which company the employee belongs too. What I want to do is automate the process e.g. the user clicks on 'Add Employee' in the Company Layout and Filemaker recognises what company (or record) the user is currently looking at and automatically selects this company in the Employee Layout. Hi All I think it was LaRetta that was kind enough to post this excellent import script on the forum. But I have two problems that I need some help with. The first problem is that everytime the file is open and the import script is run then you must manually find the source file path regradless if the script shows the correct path. Once the source path is found manually then this part works until you close the file and reopen it again then you again have to find the source path manually. I was playing around with FM10 this morning. It looks like the new set field by name script step can be used in conjunction with global variables and script triggers to make a simple "undo/redo" system for data entry. The beauty of this system is that all you need to do is just attach the two trigger scripts to any field. The basic premise is that you store the original field contents in a variable upon entry and then compare the field to that value when it's saved. I currently have a big text field that I fill with a script. When I change the text box on the layout, it can be that one line will jump over and split into 2 (if over 70+ characters), now I would like to find out in exactly how many lines it is split. I could say if it's higher than 70 characters: 2, higher than 140: 3, … but this is not very foolproof as it could depend on the words used in the text (breaking at a "space"). Is there any foolproof way that I could use for this calculation?

Hi, I am new to this Forum and please forgive me if I made any mistake. What I want: I would like to build in a kind of (selectable -on/of and days before the birthdate selectable) alarm in which when opening the database that you are warned that a birthday is coming up? I am also looking to make it editable some way so that I can decide on the period (14 days, 10 days, 7 days, whatever I like) the alarm works on.
