Hi Guys, I've downloaded the web viewer charting example from the ileMaker website (resources). This comes with a shockwave, hrml and a filemaker example file. As far as the documentation goes, they all need to be stored in one folder. If I wanted to host teh file on a network, where on earth would I place the shockwave and html files? Would I need to make any alterations to the database to get it to work like file references?

It appears to me that the way to use FMP generated HTML within an IWP web viewer is to use the "data:/about:" trick. This has been working great for me, until I needed to show an image in the viewer. I'd like the web viewer to reference a local image AND have this work within IWP. I'm guessing that using src="file:/// won't work and I'd rather not store the images on a separate web server. So I'd like to make a container field and use imagemac: to reference the file in the file system, then load that image into the web viewer in a way that works in IWP. Has anyone accomplished this, and if so, how?

Hi Everyone, I am loving Web Viewer and have successfully set-up a contextual google search, but I'd also like to set-up an amazon search so that the title of the record is the search query in Amazon.com that displays in the web viewer. It seems difficult since Amazon uses longer URLs that don't lend themselves very well to the custom URL... formula menu... THoughts? solutions? Thanks

I'm a newbie at this. Help! How do I go about getting data from a web site (name address, city, state, phone, etc) to my Filemaker data base? Would you kindly give me the specific script since I'm still very fuzzy about objects and attributes? How would the script be different if thee was more than one record on a web site page? Thanks in advance!

For some reason, Internet Explorer (6 & 7 both) are suddenly refusing to access PDF files that are stored in a container field. When you click on the PDF hyperlink, you get an error message stating "Internet Explorer cannot download data.file from servername.domain.edu". On the other hand, Firefox works perfectly well; you can't view the PDF in the browser, but it still lets you save the file to your PC. Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening? IE didn't used to do this.

I created one field and 1 web viewer. [color:green]1)container Field 2)Web View The container is holding the pdf file. {I did a insert file to put pdf in container} Now, my problem is with the Web Viewer Setup. If go to custom. {I tried specifying the container field name, but that doesn't work.} Thus, I went next to a file// and it kinda works. If I put in this command below it show the pdf fine. Can anyone help… Background: I have a plain text file on a server that is updated regularly by a datalogger (it can't be altered in any way) & I want to read the last line (I can work that out). The FileMaker file is going to be IWP. Problem: I've tried using the WebViewer to load the .txt file which it does eventually but it really has to think about it, then using the calculation (result as text, unstored) GetLayoutObjectAttribute ( "WebData" ; "content" ) it doesn't return the content although when the same calc is referencing a web page it returns the html code. Am I going about this the wrong way? Is there an easier way that may not …

I have downloaded an 8.5 trial and a few Web Viewer examples and so far I'm pretty disappointed. None of the examples I have been toying with will display a PDF, local or otherwise, stored as a reference or file. The only thing that happens is that the first time I import a PDF and FM tries to display it in the Web Viewer, I get a dialog box asking me to open something. What I am supposed to be looking for, I have no idea — files are grayed, browser apps are grayed, and Acrobat is selectable but nothing happens when selected. I am totally confused by this. The reason for this post is this: I have developed an in-house workflow for our Production and Creative processe…

I am working on a test application and have run into a snag. I have created the database in FM Pro 8.5 advanced. I have some basic fields and one Container for Quicktime movies and audio files. The Files are recorded through Quicktime Player, and then saved to the desktop. From there, I "right-click" the container and add the Quicktime file. The files are viewable and playable in the Filemaker Pro application without complication, BUT, when the database is shared using web sharing, I cannot view the multi-media content in the container. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

I am setting up our FM data base to use Canada Post's online shipping. I would like to use the Web Viewer to populate the shipping form with data (name, address, etc.). However the form is built with Java Script, and it doesn't have parameters as part of its URL. I've tried writing a script to do this. But executing the script, even with key commands, pulls the focus out of the form. Even naming the Web Viewer object and using Go to Object doesn't help. Perhaps including a tab character in a script would help, but I haven't found a way to do that. Help will be much appreciated.

I am a piano tuner in the panhandle of Nebraska. I have an awesome database for my business thanks to the help of a Filemaker Consultant out of Colorado. I'm trying to learn how to add more features to my database myself and am having a lot of fun doing it. I added a webviewer so that I can see a map for the address of each client. This is great for seeing where they live when I'm at home and connected to the internet, but I would like to be able to see the map on my laptop while driving to their house. Once I zoom in or out and configure the map the way I like, I want to be able to save the map with the clients record to use while driving. Anyone know h…

I've started playing around with the data:URI trick shown off by "The Bridge", and SVG to allow the dynamic creation of graphics in the webviewer. My examples are pretty lame so far, but there is clearly a lot of potential here. Take a look at the attached fp7 file. The sample file is setup for Mac users, and you'll need to download the SVG plug-in from Adobe if you haven't yet (the link is in the fp7 sample file). Hopefully this will motivate someone to do something cool, I'd like to see a custom function that constructs a pie-chart, for instance. :) svgSample.zip

Preface: I am using FMP 8.5 and Running it thru FM Server 8.0v4 on a Windows 2003 server. We are autheniticating via external server. I received the Web viewer example from Filemaker and thought that I might be able to utilize the graph examples that were included. After some tweeking I was able to get them to do just what I wanted. The problem is that after I copy the new file to the Databases folder and start the FileMaker Server service, the web page in the viewer cannot locate the VW.html file. Whats strange is that the file is found when I'm connecting with out the files being hosted by the FM Server service. If anyone has any experience witht his I'd be happ…

I run ASP applications within Web Viewers inside of our FileMaker files. It works great, but I've kinda stumbled into something and I'm not exactly sure what's happening. This particular ASP script that I'm running marks invoices paid/shipped on eBay when we mark them paid/shipped in FileMaker. I used to do this using Open URL and it would actually open your browser to run the page. This was fine except the pop-up kinda annoys some people. I created a separate layout that holds nothing but a big web viewer. I made my script switch to this layout and use that web viewer to run the ASP scripts and then it switches back to original layout. I'm not exactly …

I integrated the Chartmaker that Filemaker has on their site into a solution i am developing and i am having a problem with it. It seems that when ever i go to close the file using the buttons at the top left (i am on a Mac using FMA 8.5) it closes the window but then it crashes the application. If i go to a different view or Table then close it doesnt crash on closing. The only difference is that the page that is crashing has the web viewer in it showing the charts. Has anyone else run into this problem? I have a suspicion that it maybe because the Chart is constantly refreshing and closing the window like that causes the crash? I cant think of any other reason…

Hi! I need to update some data in my solution from web source. Is it possible to fetch address to web viewer like mysite.com/data.php?variable=5 and have php process request and return data in XML? Then I could grab data with GetLayoutObjectAttribute (object; "content") and import from XML format to correct fields. I was thinking about ftp but I can't do it without plug-in. And import from XML Data Source is not available in ScriptMaker. Does anybody have solution for this problem? Or more simple procedure? Thanks in advance

I have a web viewer configured to view bitmap scans of purchase tickets. Since the bitmap files are named based on the ID field, the file path to the saved file (e.g., c:scans00019.bmp) is easy to calculate. With a script activated with the View button, then, I open a pop-up window with a web viewer for viewing the file. This works well, but if a particular ticket hasn't been scanned, there's no file at the computed path and the web viewer displays an error page. How can I check for the existence of the file before displaying the web viewer? Alternatively, can I trap a web viewer error for a bad URL? As an added feature, it would be nice to have the View butto…

OK - this is really puzzling me. I have a field that contains a calculated value - it has to do with student school records. It's a simple text calculation, and it works like so: If (SchoolA not empty), equal to SchoolA, else, If (SchoolB not empty), equal to SchoolB, else, blank result. When I try and have a pull-down index for searching this field via a web page, it obstinately refuses to do anything - the field is locked and allows no input at all, even by hand. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I did a little research (Google is our friend) and it is entirely possible to dynamically generate content inside a WebViewer object without resorting to HTTP calls or loading local files. In other words, you can create any content you want (even graphics if you know the format) without requiring external files or even a connection to a web server. The key is to use the DATA protocol. This article won't go into all the details; again, use a search engine for more information. Attached is a sample file that will dynamically fill a box with a colour that you specify using hex. One field, one WebViewer object, and one button... no scripts, no exporting, no imp…

I have a script that populates a field with HTML and then web viewer will display the page. However, there is a slight delay in the web viewer displaying the HTML as it should - so it displays the HTML as text in the web viewer window. While it only displays it for a half-second, it will be annoying to my clients (as it has been annoying for me). I have tried to freeze the window until the very end of the script, and then I do a refresh, but it still shows up. It also happens as I scroll between records (as the HTML field is a global field) - so is this just a web viewer glitch? Any information is appreciated. Thanks, Tony

I was completely taken by the Google maps web viewer and how simple it was to add a viewer to a layout, match the Google address fields to my database address fields and have a map for every person's address in my membership database (being able to switch the view to satellite was a bonus - it showed that address USPS said was undeliverable was now a vacant lot :-). It did get me thinking about another useful addressing tool, - looking up zip+4 zip codes from the USPS website. The task is virtually the same - USPS wants three fields of information street, city and state, just like google maps. Unfortunately FM doesn't automatically give you the USPS field names to match …

Has anyone been able to drag an image from Web Viewer and drop it into a container field on the same layout? I get the message "This file cannot be opened because it does not belong to this solution". I can drag an image from a separate browser window into the container. And I can cut/paste the image from the Web Viewer into the container. I can even drag text from the Web Viewer into a text field on the same layout. But dragging images from the Web Viewer are a no-go. Any suggestions of something to try?

I would like my users to be able to enter addresses or Lats/Long and be able to click a button and map those point. I would like the map to have IDs for the locations. I have read some different threads in here but am still unclear about the best way to approach this or what extra software is needed. My users are running FM 8.0. I have FM Pro Advanced. All users are server based. Thanks for any input.

My demo for FM 8.5 has run out, so I can't test this myself. Is there any way to download a file with the web viewer and have FM save it to a specific location on a local drive? I'm looking at downloading a 100mb file on an automated basis, and then being able to work with that file later in FM. FileMaker will know the URL to get the file, and it'll have a nice spot on a local drive to save the file. I just need FM to handle the download, and it would be nice if it could give the user some kind of progress dialog while it's working. Any ideas?

Hello, I have been playing a bit with the webviewer. I am http request to amazon.com to get a picture of a book. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0595345565.01.MZZZZZZZ The book shows up perfecly in the browser. I want to then store the pic locally. I tried naming the web viewer as a layout object and then using GetLayoutObjectAttribute (objectName;attributeName) to set a container field. However, it only worked with "source" as the second parameter and returned a text string web address. Instead I'd like image stored locally... I tried using "content" as the second parameter but it didn't seem to work. I can drag the image from t…

Hi I am playing around with the web viewer and wondered if it's possible to display a map say from streetmap, multimap and the like based on what UK Postcode is used in a PostCode field? If it is may I ask for an example or even dare to ask exactly how? Hope that makes sense.

I am trying to use something like the example of "Web Viewer example" for displaying the PDF files, but using the FM server. What would be the address to use to display the PDF on a PC using the Open URL ? is it something like this ? it does't seem to work ?? "fmnet://192.168.0.104/Data/Databases/Folder_name/file_name" I want to keep the files in a folder named something like "Folder_name" that is located in the same folder of my DB that is located in the server folder "Databases" . Any help greatly appriciated. Xoomaster

For the last few days I've been working on having FM update a webpage that displays MS Virtual Earth map with data for scheduled jobs and unscheduled jobs. The primary purpose of this is so if an installer is on his way home he can look at the map on the web and maybe pick up a repair job or something on his way home. What I have done is 1) Wrote up the VE webpage. It's not pretty, but it does have the map. 2) Did a whole lot of reading on GeoRSS and it's integration with VE. 3) Figured out how to make the xslt to format the xml exported from filemaker into the GeoRSS xml file that VE needs to display the data on the map on layers. 4) Scripted an FTP upload of…

I would like the buttons to work on all webviews, but I'm stuck on how script, if viewing webview tab 1, then go back...else if viewing webtab 2, then go back. I am assigning the webviews with an object name. Attached example of my layout titled "Example".

Based on an exchange in the "Windows Automation" forum, I've created a demo file that shows how the web viewer can be used to return the result of a vbscript to filemaker. You can download it from the downloads section of my website: www.connectingdata.com The demo shows a "browse for file" dialog and returns the chosen path & file name back to a FM field. Enjoy, Wim

http://www.fmwebschool.com has a plugin called IPost Web, and it claims to be able to use the POST method. I downloaded the demo, and couldn't figure out how to use it with the WebViewer. The instructions are all about using regular fields to get data. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

I've been having this very annoying problem with IE, webviewer, drop down lists. I have a tabbed interface, one tab has a webviewer set to a site where I update a job, ie. set the schedule date, the second tab has a webviewer that connects to a site that displays the customer history, ie, date of install and repair dates. The issue arises when I load the first tab, update that site, then goto the second tab, and load that page. All of the drop down lists stop functioning. Meaning I can click on them and it just selects the field, the list does not drop down. This would happen until I restarted filemaker. Then for some odd reason, I happened to close out IE, wh…

Hey everyone- I'm trying to figure out this whole web parsing thing and playing around with a sample database for Pearl Jam lyrics. I've got a field up that I type the song name and my web viewer goes to this page "http://www.pearljam.com/flat/songs/songFeed" & Pearl Jam Lyrics::Song Name & ".js". It spits out an address like this: http://www.pearljam.com/flat/songs/songFeedAnimal.js When I go to the page in the web viewer or Safari, it just looks like normal text. I can manually copy and paste out of it, but can't script it or parse it. What am I doing wrong? I'm using the GetLayoutObjectAttribute ( "Web_Data" ; "content" ) function (with Web_Data being the obj…

Hey all, I'm back after a 2-year break from FMP. I'm now at a new job where we're using FMP7 for patient/subject scheduling and data. We also use a Google Calendar to keep track of our schedule. We'd like to integrate our Google Calendar and FMP7 database. I'm a noob at FMP8.5 (actually never used it, we won't upgrade unless this is possible), so my question is: can we use Web Viewer to not only view our calendar, but log in to our Google account and edit the calendar just as if it was in an ordinary browser? We just want to make sure so we don't upgrade for no reason. Thanks so much, Aviosity

To all the parse geniuses! How is it possibe to pars e out a specific name if the previews link or the link after changes on a site? This seems unpossible to do! Here a example in html! For example each href has a different ending for the name in the database! The in between the name filemaker should take over! "Johnny Depp - Jack Sparrow", Geoffrey Rush - Barbossa I was playing around and could not even get close! How would I even start to approach this? Should I count words, like find a costom note and count from there on? Also the notes inbetween the area are all the same! Ahhh. Cast overview, first billed only: Johnny Depp .... Jack SparrowGeoffrey Ru…

I noticed that the predefined viewers included FedEx tracking but not UPS (Brown). Here's the expression for a custom Web viewer to download the tracking status for UPS packages: "http://wwwapps.ups.com/etracking/tracking.cgi?" & "tracknum=" & PackageTracking::Tracking Number Substitute your file name for the character string and the field name that contains the tracking number for the character string. You can actually layer the two tracking systems using the tab control to create a tab for each of them and drop a web viewer on each tab, putting the tracker in the same layout.

Hello All! Ok, so I see that I'm not the only one attempting to use a 'Post' webpage. Specifically, what I would like to do is this: Goto a page, like https://www.econsumer.equifax.com/consumer/showmyequifax.ehtml?partner_cd=PPSS2 I would like some automated way to have data from the record pasted into the fields. Any ideas on a simple way to do this?

FMP had a great IDEA, but ruined it with a simple omission. The web viewer needs a URL, it can't display the content of a field that would contain HTML source code. That's reall disapointing, it would have open a new wealth of opportunities, like previewing data. Please make it in 8.5v2

The web viewer seems so modular, I can almost imagine it not interfering with the older fm8 functionality. Faced with the start of a large build for a new client, dare I dive in and recommend the untried 8.5 for this undertaking? I'd hate for them to go through the hassle of updating later after it has been put through it's paces, and FMI has released an update or two, or to miss out on the webviewer (which has no use in out CURRENT scheme.)

Is there any way to have FileMaker 8.5 do this: Go to a web page with a form that uses the POST method, input data, and hit submit? I'm working on a USPS integration, and image data is sent back to FileMaker via XML that is Base64 encoded. I've written a perl script to decode the image and display it, which I can do by hand just fine by copy / pasting and clicking on submit, but I'd like to have filemaker do this for me. Anyone have any ideas if this is possible?

I've been playing around with this new function a little and I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to extract data from the web viewer window and put it into fields. For example, say I've got a table with about 50 records (or a lot more), each of which has a Fed Ex tracking number field. It's easy enough to have web viewer windows for each record to show the raw tracking data but I would like to be able to extract the pertinent data such as ship date, delivery date, signed for, etc., and automatically insert them into fields for clean reporting. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks!
