I having recently migrated to Filemaker Pro 9 Advanced from Filemaker 7. A script I used in 7, which was assigned to a button and ran very quick, now runs very slow in 9, when run from the same button. However, if I run the same script from the script menu in 9, it runs as quick as it did in 7. If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening, I would be grateful.

I have an online FMSA 8 XSL form and I was wondering if it is possible, depending on the user that logs in, to only show certain input fields? So if the admin logs in, then the form will show all input fields, however, if user "jsmith" logs in, it will only show the fields "jsmith" is allowed to input? Will I need to set the permission at the database level under the "Accounts & Privileges" section or can I control the authorization from the XSL page? Is this something that can only be done with FMSA9 and PHP?

Hi, I am currently working on Instant web publishing on FIlemaker 7 client and Filemaker 7 advanced server. The Operating system used is Tiger. I am having problems with the IWP. I hosted the file on the server and is working fine. For IWP I followed the following steps: 1. In the server (Filemaker Server Admin) changed the status of the the corresponding served database to "closed". 2. Went to the corresponding directory where the database file is present and opened it using Filemaker Pro 7. 3. While opening it gave me message before opening "FileMaker cannot share files because another user is already sharing files using FileMaker Pro on this computer" …

Any tips for improving performance over WAN? I have a database which opens in about 1-2 seconds on a LAN, but takes 40 seconds or so over a WAN, even after I removed most of the startup scripts that could access data or go to layouts with big graphics. I've done some testing with a big file and small file, and it seems like FMS is loading the entire file's layout structure before opening it. Since this database has a lot of unused crud in it (test layouts, unused layouts, old versions etc.). "Save as clone" gives a file size of about 6MB with no data. I'm wondering if I would get a speed boost if I cut out the unused layouts. Or.. am I misguided my theory…

Hi everyone, I am also have an issue with the PHP Test files and Site Assistant. The Test IWP, Test PHP, and Test XSLT all are not functioning properly, saying that it FM encounters an error - "The requested resource (/:/192.168.1.38/fmi/iwp/cgi) is not available". When manually entering the URL, I can reach the IWP Site with the database references, but the links report that the page says: databases are unavailable. The file is hosted and has the correct user privileges. The test files in the pre-installed locations, the FMS 9 Adv is enabled to use all the extended privileges, and Apache/Web Server is on. I have the firewall completely open, so I know…

Here we go again. Thought this would be an easy upgrade. I am installing the technet version of FMS9 on OS X latest version with all updates on a macmini. Started the admin_console_init_webstart.jnlp and get "The Database Server is not available". I also followed the unistall instructions of fms8 ID#6588 from filemaker knowledge base. any ideas how to solve this? The post started on this(http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/190592/) didn't seem to help. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi All, I have installed and setup FM Server 9 adv...databases all being hosted ok. One of the dbs i have setup is for IWP...which worked fine when just running from FM 8 Pro Adv. I could access via the web. But now i need to host this via the server. So i setup the IIS on the FM server 9 adv box (OS = Win 2000 sp4). The iwp_home.html i have placed in the 'Web Publishing' > 'IWP' directory...is this correct? The link to the db in the iwp_home.html file is as follows: http://ipaddress:80/fmi/iwp/cgi?=db=dbname&-loadframes This is how i had it setup in my Pro 8 adv...apart from the port was 591...i have changed the port to port 80 f…

How do I extend the amount of time before the client times out? Is this a server or a client setting? I have an application database that is using IWP and hosted by FMSA 8. The application seems to be taking some users 90 or 120 minutes, including searching for paper or research etc. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I'm sure I'm in good company with this, but the limitations of SASE to only Web Compatible script steps makes the bulk of its utility for me worthless. I was talking with another in-house developer and he suggested setting up a dedicated machine that would run one continuously looping script that would pause for 24 hours and execute itself once a day, or whatever intervals we choose. Does anyone see a problem with this or have any other ideas of a way to automate some of the non-compatible script steps, such as Import/Export and Send Mail? Thanks for any help folks.

I am unable to get FMS9 admin working after a clean install of FMS9 with the v2 update running on clean install of Mac OS 10.4.10 Server. Perhaps it's my (mis)understanding of how an opener file should work or needs to be configured, so allow me to explain what we do now that brings up the warning and quits fm: Have distributed a simple opener file to five users matching our five user license limit for FM 8.5 on Mac. The users are to keep this file on their desktop or dock on their mac. To open a database running on the FM Server they double-click their desktop opener which merely runs a script to open a simple "Menu" database hosted remotely on FM Server then closes. This all appears to work fine. The menu db, hosted on fm server, is just buttons with scripts to open a variety of other databases…

Hello, This morning I went to remotely open a FileMaker database from our server and got the following message upon trying to open the database itself... "The maximum number of licensed users are currently using this copy of FileMaker Pro.... License Key conflict occurrued with user "Myself". I don't know how, but it looks like I'm causing licensing conflicts with myself. Say for example my machine was named "Zach HD", any changes I make to the name also reflect in the license key conflict line of the message I'm getting. We're also supposed to have an unlimited license for FileMaker Pro. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is there a way to change the port that Web Publshing Engine listens to as it serves a FM database? Network/server issues internally here have forced me to install the Web Publishing Engine and FM Web Server modules on a different machine than the FM datbase (FM Server 8.0v4). I have an XServe that is hosting FM Server. The issue i'm facing now is that i need to port-forward incoming web traffic to the box running WPE. The default WPE port is 80. But i have a web server running on the XServe which also is looking for web traffic on port 80. If I could change the port that WPE listens to (591 for instance), I could configure my router to forward traffic for 591 t…

The Database: Originally written (preMe) in 3 upgraded by me to 5 and started running it via FM Server. For many years I'd make changes to Layouts and Scripts "live" during the day on the active files. I had a window each week when all would be kept out so I could make or edit fields. All was well in the world. This summer we took these 44files and upped them to 8.5. Some bugs, but all seems OK. Here's my question. I discovered that I can get into Database Design while live on the server and make changes to fields, relationships.... Is this a bad thing? Because I can, doesn't mean it's good for me.

I have a few problems with Filemaker that I haven't found a solution for - and neither can the Filemaker support. We use Filemaker Server 7 Advanced for filesharing. I get an error message: "The maximum number of licensed users are currently using this copy of Filemaker Pro.... Licence Key conflict occured with user xxx". That is my own machine. I have to wait approximately one day before I can start the program again. 2) We have one file that is shared on the web by approximately 25 people. I use Filemaker Pro 8 advanced on the same file. The web-view and the Filemaker v…

I'm running FM Server 9 on a Windows 2003 SBS SP2 machine. (Yes, I realize that SBS is not a supported operating system, but that's what I'm using and it's not going to be changing any time soon.) Beware -- I'm able to reliably crash my FMSA9v2 server (Mac OS X 10.4.10) using an unregistered demo version of the mail.it plugin (3.0.14.88), by calling it from a Server-scheduled script. Hi people @ fmforums I know this topic may be out of place, but it is related to a WAN IP problem I think, so ... I'm running FMP 8.5 on OSX 10.3.9 and I want to share a database using IWP. What should guests type in the address field of their browsers? It is clearly not the local IP-address that FileMaker suggests in the IWP setup dialog! And do I need to configure my AirPort Extreme in a certain way to let outside guests see the IWP startpage ?!? Thanks in advance. Kind regards, pinocchio

Hello, I have a call log db solution that allows our customers to log problems by email. My question is to do with Server 9 & SQL integration - so I hope i'm in the correct area We use two SQL tables for 'mail_in' and 'mail_out'. In the admin console for FMSA 9.0 I click on the Edit Deployment link and activate IWP. When I get to the Configure Web Server, there is an empty pop up menu and a check box that says "skip this step and select web server later". IIS has been activated on the PC, but it was activated after the FMSA initial installation. Do I need to re-activate IIS, re-install FMSA or just restart the Component Services and/or the PC? Also , what should i see in that popup menu? Am I right that this is what is preventing IWP to work??

I just downloaded the trail version of Server 9. I uploaded my database and it works fine being hosted. However, unlike the sample file in the databases section of server, my database does not have all the little check-marks for what options are available. There are check-marks for Pro, IWP, and ODBC/JDBC but not XSLT, XML, or PHP. I really want to practice using the PHP site assistant before I invest in the full software. Do I have adjust my database file to enable these items? The sample server file works fine with the PHP site assistant. Any ideas?

Hi everyone, We have two servers listed as favorites in Open Remote. Both servers have their own licensed copy of FMS9. One server (called Development) is currently housing our files (while being designed) and they reside in Databases. They are being served. The other server (called Production) USED to have files in it which were served. That was unserved and the files removed. But still ... when I open FM9 and select REMOTE, both servers show in my favorites list (all good) but ... if I click that second server 'Production', it still lists those files there! And I can select them. Of course it then says they aren't there but why are they showing at all? …

I have a Windows 2003 Server SP2 installed with Apache 2.2.6 and PHP 5.2.4 working. How can I configure the Filemaker server web publishing feature to use Apache and PHP5 on my Windows box? The server deployment's enable web publishing does not detect the Apache web server. The error message "Could not get a list of web servers from the specified worker machine" appears. We do not want to IIS as our web server option. Any manual configuration instructions would be appreciated to have FM9SRVADV work with Apache and PHP5 instead of defaulting to the only option, which is IIS. Thanks in advance.

Hi! We have a rather strange problem. We are using XML to insert and edit our Filemaker database. We use commands like: "http://admin:[email protected].*/fmi/xsl/login.xsl?-grammar=fmresultset&-encoding=ISO-8859-1&-db=Johner&-lay=Image_Searchword(W)&Archivenr=557024&Id=281&Searchword_priority=50&-new" But after a while with inserts and edits the commands goes slower and slower and finally the WPE "dies" more or less. Then If I reboot it it workes fine again for a while. Anyone have any idéas about this problem? Regards Joakim

Hello- Having some trouble with FileMaker Server 8 Advanced. I wanted to use CWP with FX.php to display some catalog and inventory database, but all my FX.php pages (including the samples) were getting "No action taken" errors. Is there a way to automatically add a "Favorite Host" IP address when installing a client in FileMaker 9? I remember back in FileMaker Pro 5/6, there was a text file in the user preferences folder that would store specific hosts that had been added manually. But I couldn't find a similar file for FileMaker 9. Just trying to see if there is a way around having to go to each FileMaker install and add a favorite host IP address by hand. It would be really nice if we could just add the IP address to the "assisted install" file and have FileMaker add it during the install process. Install Info: FileMaker Pro 9 Windows XP SP2 Thanks, Joe Gonzalez …

I am very very [color:green]green at this but: I am using FM server 9, it was working great, users were able to see and modify files remotely, blah blah blah. Then, I needed to open the admin console, but could NOT remember the password. So I uninstalled, then reinstalled FM server 9 to create a new password (my last resort). Now, I can't modify any files remotely and there isn't any fmsadmin group listed to redefine. I can, however modify files on the server--I also have fm 9 client installed there. I'm using os x server too, is the problem in my os x or in my fm 9 server?? Also, the upload assistant says "cannot create folder volumes/...(etc). HELP!

After working for quite a while on a solution (interface and data seperate), I moved the files into the shared location on my machine to start implementing it via FMS 8 Advanced. After restarting the system, it seems that all my file references are broken. I've tried to move the files back after shutting down, repair, optimize, and nothing seems to help. I've restated the file references a bunch of times, but the interface files don't seem to respond to this. I have a backup, but now I'm nervous.

Hi, I have been tasked with moving from fm 5.5 to server 8 and client 8.5 The migration appears to run ok. The 5.5 server is windows 2000 and a 800MHz dual machine. Both load equally quick from the old machine (around 40 seconds) I have tried tweaking the server settings, but there appears to be not much to tune and on the client side even less, I have fiddled with the cache etc. The clients calls a menu file, which is small and loads almost instantly on both systems, but if you …

I have purchased the upgrade to FMSA 9, but unfortunately I have lost the disks to v8 so I cannot conduct an uninstall of v8 prior to installing v9. (We moved offices and the CD didn't come for the trip.) So, my questions are: 1. Is there a way to uninstall FMSA 8 without the original CD? 2. If not, will an v9 install not work without getting rid of v8? Thanks so much. I really appreciate any help you can offer.

I'm just trying to get familiar with FMSA's technologies. I see that the server deplyment assistant won't let me enable the XML component if I won't choose a web server it can detect. I'm wondering if it's possible to enable and use XML without a supported web server. For example, using Apache on Windows. In my particular case, I just want to get familiar with the DB access interfaces FMSA can provide, and I'd like to contact them from simple PHP and/or other scripts run by the command-line interpreter, without using any web server whatsoever. So, actually I want to enable the XML and/or PHP API component without any web server. Is it possible?

I'm trying to install FM 9 Advanced on the D: partition, since that's where we have our apps installed and have plenty of space, but I can't seem to get passed the "User Name", "Organization", "Licensey Key" screen. I click "Next" and it doesn't do anything. I called FM tech support and they confirmed that FM 9 Advanced is supported only when installed on C: but that I might be able to modify an .ini file to install it on a different partition. I've looked at setup.ini but I can't find where the installation path is specified. Can someone please shed some light? TIA

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but I can't find it. How do I access the filemaker server offsite? Do I need a static IP? We want to be able to use a laptop at a location and access the filemaker database server to do entry real-time. There are also others in office working at the same time. I want the outside person at the shows to be able to login and also enter/chaneg data. We are using Filemaker 8. I would greatly appreciate any info on what we need to do to make this happen. I'm sure it's easy and I'm sure the answer is online somewhere but I can't find a straight answer. Thanks!

I have read a couple of post here about the new admin tool not launching in FMS 9. So far the fixes I have seen include; - Repair disk permissions - Clear all caches with Cocktail - Make sure ports 16000 to 16018 are open - Changing the Mac Open command to 'Java Cache Viewer.app 11.5.0' - Reboot after doing the above All of these have been tried on my install, and I still can't get the admin client to launch. Is there something I missed? Any help would be appreciated. Mac OS X 10.4.10

Hi, Does FM Server 9/Pro 9 have an Offline Files feature that allows you to open remote databases when disconnected from the network. I have set this up for Windows shares in Vista and not having FM do the same is the only thing stopping me from having a complete offline solution. Thanks/...

hello all, I've recently installed full filemaker 9 platform in my company local network, which means that that I updated clients and server to filemaker 9. I'm now trying to schedule the backup procedures (please see the attachement to this post), but none of them run properly. In fact, no backup schedule runs. I've created 2 folders and related subfolders on backup partition of my server (dell machine with Windows 2003 server standard edition). back up program should weekly save the copy of databases into the subfolders (at 11 PM in '11' directiry, at 5 PM in '05' directory etc..). Even if the procedure seems to be completed, back up files are not been crea…

Script is performed with an account and password that exist on both files. Filereference tried are file:filename, fmnet:127.0.0.1/filename, filewin:/D:/path/filename Any clue about this someone?

I would like to query a table (select * from table) with MS Excel over the DataDirect-ODBC-driver from my FMS9Adv. It worked a few days on several Databases, but since today ALL clients get an error when they try to get the query result in Excel. It says "SQL Parse error". Restarting the machines did no effect. We also tried another JDBC query to the same Server and this works currently without any errors. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I've a db with 45 data files (this was originally written in fm3, upgraded to fm5 then migrated to fm7) Two of my files will have their "Network access to file" changed from All Users to No Users and then fall off the network. Closing the file, opening it in FM and resetting it to All Users and then re-opening in Server gets the file back online. I can't figure out why this is happening. We did the migration to 7 weeks ago, and this problem is just showing up. Thanks for any help.

This morning, I needed to make some configuration changes using FileMaker Server 9's Server Admin Tool. When I tried to open the tool, it went to a screen that showed the tool was checking for updates. It does not get past this screen. It has worked fine previously, and no changes have taken place that would affect the tool. Files are continuing to be hosted, just not able to be managed with the admin tool. Any thoughts? When I upgraded from FM8.5 to FM9 the LDAP settings were removed. Is there any way of preserving these settings, incorporating them in the 'assisted install' file or any other way of accomplishing this? I have several hundred upgrades to do and I don't want to have to do this manually.

I am learning Filemaker Server and am liking it. We recently upgraded both (we have 2) FileMaker Servers & FileMaker Web Server to the new FileMaker v9 Advanced. Our setup is as follows: 10.0.0.2 - FileMaker Database Server (UK server) 10.0.3.20 - FileMaker Database Server (USA Server) 10.0.0.3 - Web Server / Web Publishing Engine (UK Based Server) When running on FileMaker v8.5 we were able to extract data via php from 10.0.3.20 using a relationship hosted on 10.0.0.2. But since we upgraded to v9 this has not been possible. Data is being published successfully from 10.0.0.2. No coding has changed on the web pages, and all the privileges seem to be the same as in v8.5 but still we canno…

We are currently running FM Server 8 on a Windows 2003 server. Windows 2003 (32bit) has a limit of 2GB for page file size. From what I can tell, FM Server is still 32 bit, so even if I upgraded to a 64bit server, I would still be looking at the 2GB page file limit. Unfortunately, our install of FM server is getting pretty close to maxing out the page file. Is the MacOS version of FM Server also a 32 bit program, or would it be able to fully utilize the MacOS 64 bit capabilities? Are there limits to virtual memory on an XServe vs a Windows 2003 Server? I would appreciate any advice I can get.

Hi All, I have a client that has Server 8 advanced installed on a windows box (I failed to note whether XP or server version OS), and uses windows administration sharing to get at the drive remotely. This did allow dragging down files to a local client machine, which with no OS sharing turned off, that I am familiar with, would allow. Now windows is not my (preferred) environment. I understand the requirements about system level sharing not being allowed, and have underlined that from the start. The IT person was of the opinion, that admin sharing was different to ordinary system sharing; but they are not FileMaker savvy. Can anyone illuminate me on thi…

Hi, I am currently working on Instant Web Publishing(IWP) using FM7. I first created a layout in a database in a local developement machine and did a IWP and it worked fine. Then I tried uploading it into the server and tried the same. Please can someone help to solve this and do a IWP on the FM7 Server Advanced. Thanks and regards, Sudharsan

Hello all, Could someone point an example to me where I could learn how to time-control a db file? What I wanted to do is... 1) A user opens up the db, do some editing... 2) Left the DB open for x-number of minutes... -> What I want to accomplish is to have the timer to start counting when there is no activity on the system (ex: mouse movement for example). I was looking at pause/resume script but the best I could do is to assign a value and that's it. It starts ticking regardless whether theres a system activity or not... I wanted to leave a message on the screen informing the user that the db has been disconnected because of lack of activities. …

Hello, we've finally begun our transition from FileMaker 4 to FM8 with FM8 Server (yes, version 8 - owned for year and never deployed ). It has been decided by the higher ups that the first phase will be converting all existing files to fp7 and continue to use as flat files while the new relational databases are being built. My question is about opener files. What is/are current practice(s) in this regard? Currently, with FM4, the files are hosted on a server, and the first to open the file becomes host. All the files have shortcuts on every client's machine (about 8 clients). I'm trying to make things cleaner and easier for the end-user (many are not too comp…

We've just purchased FM Server 9 and I'm really excited about our commitment to FileMaker Pro for future development. My newbie question is: Is it OK to continue development on a database hosted by FM Server while it is "open" on the server and others are using it? Up to this point all development has been on my local copy of a db, and when new functionality was needed I was the only person in the file making updates. Once I was done, I deployed the solution again to our staff with the new functionality. I'm concerned about data corruption or some kind of conflicts. For example: staff member 1 is in layout "Main". Staff member 2 is in layout "Other"…

I know what the problem is but I don't know how to fix it. Everything is running just fine except that when I try to configure IIS with FMSA it says it can't find the web server. The reason for this is because when I configured my site in IIS I actually disabled the default site and created a new one. Take a look at this screenshot to see what I mean: http://www.angelleye.com/temp/iis.jpg If I disable the angelleye.com site here and enable the Default Web Site, then the FMSA configuration finds it successfully. The problem is I already have the SSL configured for this current site and don't want to mess with changing all of that. How can I make Fil…

I just wonder if I have to do something special/different in order to benefit.

I'd like your help preventing the dread disease called "cross-talk". "Using FileMaker 8" applies this term to a situation where the wrong version of a referenced file might be opened, if more than one file by that name is being served at the same time, anywhere on the network. (See pp. 526-528.) Our users have FM Pro 8 and 8.5, and we're developing in FM Pro 8.5 Advanced. We'd like to run two FileMaker servers on the same network: one for production, and one for testing. The same set of files would be deployed on both servers. If we were to only use relative paths, and only put one path in each file reference's file path list, would that be sufficient to preven…
