    Hello! I have a calc field that determines a discount based on a global field that represents the registration fee of a "league type" and the actual fee paid. It is unstored, and in a table called "financials" I have a "players" layout with a portal for financials. Now here's what's driving me bonkers.. The calc works fine when I open the app and use it on a windows machine. However, on a Mac it will not work. If I go directly to a financial layout(not to the portal) and enter data, it works just fine(on the mac)but not on the players layout. Can someone make a suggestion as to what might be the problem, or where to begin trouble shooting. Thanks.

    Hi, Hope you can point me in the right direction.... I want to display in my line items file the commission % based on the criteria of - Employee and Type. I have setup the types (Product 10%, Services 15%) on the employees table. At present it displays on the line items table the employees name and the type (Both via Calcs from the appointments table) - what i need to do (I think) is build up a case statement.... But how would that work if you add a new employee??? If i can get the % number in a field in the line items table, it should be easy to calc a employees commissions based on what they have sold? There is one member layout, and in that layout i write in a radio button if the member is a new member or not, and with other radio button if is an active member or not.     Hi, I've got a calculation field that is running the following calculation: If ( field one = "x" ; field two) This achieves the desired results. But, I also want to check field one for "y" and return a different result. I assumed I could add another "If" statement or an "else if" or "else" but can't seem to get this to work.     I have a calculation field which is a SUM of several other fields (all numbers). I would like to compare this calculation field to another number field, with the result of either GREEN or RED number, depending on whether or not this field has a higher numerical value. In other words, if field A is smaller then field B, I want the field A be in RED, etc. How would you write such a calculation and how can it be added to the existing calculation ? Many thanks !

    I have a field that is either a yes or no. If someone selects yes, it creates a record into another related Table and that part works fine. But what I want to do is that if they had selected yes and created the record and then go back and select no that the related record is deleted automically without dialog. Stumped yet again...     I have a requirement for three seperate parts of a database to reside in four locations, one in Bulawayo, one in Houston, one in Illinois and the master In South Africa. The date formats for input will then be UK format in Bulawayo and South Africa and American in the other two. As the whole database is mastered in South Africa is there a way to set the input format correctly for the various sites and then have the date converted automatically when the input from America is imported

    Hi I want to create a basic finance entry database for income & Expenditure. I was going to create 5 tables for 5 years and then each table layout having 12 tabs for each month. Each tab would have 5 columns for the 5 weeks of the month. Anyone know if its possible to not have to create the same fields dozens of times for weeks 1 to 5, months 1 to 12 and years 1 to 5!     I have records in a table and one of the fields is a date. I want to be able to count the number of days for the records that I have selected. For example, in the 6 records below there are 3 days. Is there a calculation that will determine this or do I have to loop through all the records to figure this out.     I have multiple records that contain a field "status" with values such as "Status 1", "Status 2", "Status 3", etc and also contain a date field. The primary key for the database is a concatintion between of "Item ID" and "Status". I want to calculate the number of days it took for a particular item to chang from Status 1 to Status 2 and I'm oping to do this in a field definition rather than a script, any ideas?

    I'm trying to get multiple modification boxes stating the name of the person who modified it, the date, time, and reason. I've got the name and the reason figured out, but I can't figure out how to make multiple modification boxes. I know filemaker can create one easily but I must need a function to make more. What I need basically is a modified by 1, with name date time and reason, then a modified by 2 with name date time and reason, a modified by 3 and a modified by 4 with the same information.     Hi - I'm having a problem I've seen posted elsewhere but none of the solutions suggested seem to do it for me. I have a list view with summary fields in a trailing grand summary (Simple Total of type summaries). They start out correctly. However, after a script goes through and makes changes to the records in the list, the summary fields do not update. A calculated field which is on this layout but comes from a different table and is the same as one of the summary fields DOES update after the script runs. Changing modes does not help.     Greetings, its been months since i have been on here, but i have a new task and need to clean up an old database. The first and foremost thing i need to do is to delete old records but i cant think of a good way to do it. My Scenario: I have about 30,000 records and only 10,000 are useful (therefore it would be tedious to go in one by one and delete the unused ones). My criteria for deleting the records is that if they dont have a call history of any kind i may as well delete them.     Hello, I'm creating a database for a laboratory that I work in to keep track of our chemical inventory. Each year we have to print reports of our hazardous chemicals and an approximate amount of what we have in stock. My problem deals with the different number of units that we use. Mostly its grams, milligrams, or kilograms. (or liters or milliliters for liquids) Is there anyway to have a clause in the calculation to look at the units and multiply it by a factor?     I have a table "Payments" that is displayed in a portal and set to have records created via the relationship to the parent table. I need to validate all of the payments (records in the "Payments" table) made but they don't validate when the record is first created but they are validated when the record is updated. I am trying to figure out why this is happening and if there is a way around it. Is it possible the problem is because the validation refrences a related field? It also looks like if a payment is deleted an unstored calculation using Sum() still counts it as well as a summary field. Is there any way around this? Running FMP 8.5 Advanced on Windows …

    I have a repeating field that have created a calculation for. The calculation basically says Case(Incident type = "Theft"; 1;"") this would return a value of 1 should the incident type be theft. I then have a summary field that totals the entries for the incident type that = "theft" However this is a repeating field.     I have instances where I would like to use an alternate name for a field. My plan is to set up a calculated field that simply lists the primary field as the "calculation".     Hi, I'm stuck with a ormula and although I can get it to work using loads of if statements I'm hoping there is a easier way. Basically as a practice project I want to make a program that can work out the best poker hand from data entered. I've got all my fields set up (flop1, flop2, river, etc) and I have used the case statement and lots of AND and OR's to get it to pick up pairs, trips, etc but I'm thinking there must be a easier way than listing all possible combinations? Also I can't think of how I would use this method to pick up the straights, etc. So far I have not included suits. just numbers. Any ideas?

    Sirs, how would I do a calculation for the time difference between two entered fields, such as Start Time, End Time? I have tried to make such a calculation, by making the start and end time values TIME, but the result makes no sense. It thinks the time value, for the 24 hour clock, is minutes. It will not display the time normally, but puts the : mark after the minutes and then adds seconds, thus 1630 is displayed as 1630:00, which must have something to do with the calculation. The main "problem" is that I am new to FileMaker (and databases in general) and I have to tackle the reservation, invoicing, etc project created by a former employee. They did not complete the project but it is usable with some limitations/errors.     Our company makes vitamins. We have lots of powders and keep track of the batches used in production. The idea is that the mixing in charge scans the barcodes of the batches into a field. Each barcode is always a length of 8 characters. If he scans 3 barcodes, the field will be 24 characters long.     Here is an interesting "thing" I ran into. I have two related tables. Some of the fields in table two, upon record creation, are to be given the existing value from fields in the related table one. The fields to use are in the calculations for the fields in the database info. This works great if adding the new record for table two through a portal on a layout assigned to table one. I have an Overall Comment field which is made by concatenating a Course Outline from a related table and a teacher's comment, which is individual to each student. I also have a Year field, which records which year each report was created.     I have a database that is held in 2 locations and data is entered in the same table. Following data entry the information is then exported as Excel, emailed and imported in a third location. As this table is then related to a recipients table by a unique ID I have defined three field for ID purposes. The first is an auto enter number field, the second is an alpha field which gives a single letter determined by the user name and the third is supposed to be the ID field by combining the information from the two other fields. This will help the users to by-pass automatic processes and complete the fields of their own.     I have an Inventory table. In the main view I have a QOH_store that is a calculation of Count and Sold. When I make a new layout that displays the QOH_store and the Sold Fields, the QOH_store field isnt updating automatically. I have to click in both fields to update the info. HOWEVER, just clicking one of those fields doesnt update both of them. I thought maybe using the Relookup would help but it says that there are no fields that lookup values based on the Sold field, which is not true...

    I know this is very simple but I can't seem to figure it out today. A system that I'm working on has an orders table and a commissions table. Commisions are related to orders by an order ID and a single order can have multiple commissions attached. Each commisions record also shows a SalesRepID. From the orders table I need to show the SalesRepID from the Sales rep that has the highest commission on that order. Any suggestions would be apprecaited.

    Each of my layouts are designed to be printed, but is there anyway I can create a non-printing custom navigation bar along the left-hand side of the screen? I currently have all my buttons along the right, off the printed page, but I have two different types of buttons I'd like to categorize -- navigation (between table data) on the left, and action items (ex.: launch script) on the right. For each layout the items on the left would remain the same, but the items on the right would change depending upon the actions particular to that data.   74. Ok here is my problem. I have a field that when the record is created displays the date and time. It does this using the Auto-Enter/Creation/Timestamp/(Date and Time) setting. Now I have a second field called "Due Date" I want this field to display the date 14 days after the creation date of the record. I have tried "Due Date = Creation Date + 14" but that displays just a jumble of numbers. Is there something I am missing? A calculation command or Field format? Now after reading the "White Paper for FMP Novices" I see the value in having an ID Field as described therein. Let me explain jobs are entered every 2 weeks from the 1st to the 14th and from the 15th to the 31st, an invoice is then created for both these ranges but on the last period 15th ---31 the invoice is created on the 1st. here is where i have the problem. i am breaking a summary by the month, via the invoice date but i am always a job period behind so for example i have Jan 200 feb 400 march 410 april 415 etc........ but if i do a manual search by invoice date lets say 5th of jan to 5th of February the result is correct. but now i cannot list the summery as Jan Feb March etc........ …

  77. AddressList.fp5 includes a multi-value field with BookIDs in it. People in the AddressList may have 0, 1 or multiple BookIDs. BookList.fp5 has a multi-value field listing the PersonIDs of everyone in AddressList.fp5 who has that BookID listed. The multi-value field in BookList.fp5 will apparently only read in the first value it finds in any multi-value field in AddressList.fp5. Any way to accomplish this? Thanks.

    Need to know the most efficent way of doing something close to this: If table::field is in the records of 2nd table::field then etc. would work just as well if not member of... We are inputing websites into a database and doing a whois data capture on the base domain. So URL table one has all the websites and Whois Table has all the domain info. The URL table can have multibles of the same domain, but with different websites. So, was looking for way to flag the user that that URL while may be new has a domain that has been catured already so the user does not have to spend time doing a search on the second table.

    I'm trying to set up a calculation field that counts the number of a certain type of related record in another table. For example: employee table is linked to the Absence table I want a field in the employee table called "Count Sick" to count the number of related absences in the Absence table that were coded as sick for each employee. I would like to be able to preserve the formatting from the original fields so that they still display with their original formatting in the calculation field.     I have a table within my database where the user will create a record and a field called "record number". For other calculations and relationships to work within the database it has to be a two digit number. If possible I'd like to have it setup so that when the user creates the records it starts with auto-entering 01 then moves to 02, 03, 04 etc... I'd also like to make it modifiable by the user but make it so that it has to be two characters if they choose to change the auto-enter number.     Hi, this may be easy but I cannot figure this out. I have a field that will contain a Fedex tracking number that will be entered by scanning the barcode on the FedEx label. The barcode contains 22 digits of which the last 15 are the tracking number that needs to be parsed. How would I setup a calculation to throw out the first 7 digits and keep the last 15 in the field?     Hi, I'm importing text via XML (through a hack, not through the regular FMP methods) in a way that can preserve the xml tags. My question--and this would apply to importing HTML, tags intact--is whether there's a way to change these tags into formatting information that FMP would recognize. So that italics would be italics. Bold would be bold, etc... The idea is that text that appears inside my text here could appear in italics. Thanks for any help. lmaury
