I used the LIST function on the related table's records to make a list of all the docs in that table (2). I then used a FilterValues function to compare the related records list to a list in the context table (1). The filterValues function results were not correct. Before using the List function (which I thought would be a lot faster), I used a looping script to make a list from all the records in table 2.   2. I have a layout in my email address table which has a contact id field and Contact full name that displays based on a lookup. The problem is when I click on the contact id field the drop down lists all of my 100K+ records. I would like to filter this dropdown list since not all of my records have a full name given. I would like to filter only on those records with a full name entered but not sure how. NOTE: The contact id field on the layout is set as a dropdown list and currently get the data from the contactid field in the table.

    Okay, take a look at this file. If you press search button enter a value in the field Type/Shape and then look at the Modifier field next to it. It is meant to be a conditional value list. It does not work if I set it up as such unless I change the table for the layout to dieline usage. I need my found set to be shown on the Preview Layout which is based on the Dielines table. This means I can not show my found set there. Can someone tell me how to fix this. I can fix either problem, but can not fix both.     I need help to create list based off of a selection in a field. For instance. If an employee selects that a client is "confirmed by phone" I want it to populate that record in a list on another page layout that I create. Or if an employee selects "confirmed by email" it should populate another list. I have a few other selections to, but that is the idea. Thank you!!!

    Hi all, I have searched far and wide to no avail... can anyone confirm for me that there is no simple way to sort a value list descending instead of ascending numeric or alphabetical? It's a relational value list that just uses one relationship, and even if I sort the appropriate field descending in the relationship, the value list still appears ascending. We have sort options up to wazoo for everything else; am I just missing something here? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

    I'm using the Format As Boolean option for a numeric flag value, with the displayed values being simply "Yes" and "No". I defined a value list so the user can make their Yes/No selection. Currently, the options that are shown to the user are "1 = Yes" and "0 = No" -- and everything works fine. However, I would like to offer simple "Yes" or "No" choices. Is there a way to define the value list to display only the words but still set the numeric field without having to define a table to hold the choices? Thanks for any help.

I have a table of records with a TIME field and a RECORDSERIAL field. The records increment in time as the RECORDSERIAL goes up.   10. I have a company record which has a sales exec field. I want to force users to select an appropriate sales exec from a value list (a pull down menu). I have implemented the value list and pull down menu, but I don't want to store the person's actual name in the company table. I want to store the ID attached to the name from the sales exec table. I would also like the sales exec field in the company table to display the sales exec name based on the id. So far, the only thing I have been able to accomplish is storing the person's name.     There may be a very simple solution to this - but I can't seem to figure it out. I have a layout that has a field with 10 or so check boxes. In another layout in the same database, I want to display this field as an Edit box field (i.e., not check box), and display the values one after the other, seperated by commas (or soemthing like that), instead of the default, one line per value.     Hi. I'm having a little bit of a problem with my first Filemaker file. I am switching from Lotus Approach Millenium. I'm trying to set up an invoice program. In Approach there is something called a repeating panel. You can place a repeating panel on your form and then you can add fields from tables into the form. The panel can display as many lines as you want and then if more lines are needed it scrolls down. I normally set up my repeating panel to include productID, Qty, Description, Cost and Total.     Hi, I have a drop down list in my invoice section that allows me to select the day the service will be provided. The drop down list takes the data from a field called Date and i would like the drop down list to only show the dates that has yet to come. For example, I have 52 entries in this date field which are the 52 saturdays of the year. we are 23rd feb so i would like the drop down list to show only the saturdays to be coming and not the ones that already happened...   17. Hi Guys, I've got a number of fields in a portal, that are displayed as drop-down lists, from various value lists as appropriate. I'm not able to select the "Auto-complete using value list" check-box for the fields inside the portal, whereas fields outside the portal can auto-complete from the value list. I don't usually have a need to auto-complete value lists from within a portal, so haven't come across this before, but my client has now decided it would be nice to do.     OK, I am FINALLY moving a fairly involved solution from FM6 to FM8.5 and in the process consolidating about 8 files into a single file with 8 tables instead. For the most part I am getting just how much better and easier it is to do what I need to do, but even with dozens of great workflow improvements, I still have 2 things are still eluding me.     I hope someone can help me with a script that I'm trying to write. While in my Customer database I would like to select the account number of the current record then open my Orders database and copy the account numer into the Account No. field. I tried the following script: Copy [select; Customers::Acct No.] Open File ["ORDERS"] Go to Layout [original layout] New Record/Request Paste [select; ORDERS::ACCOUNT NO.] but all it does is open a new record in Orders and places the cursor in the Account No. field.     I have a portal in Companies that shows all related Contact. In the Contact file I have checkboxes for MAIN, SPECIALS, PRICING... I would like to have the portal in Company file sort these on the value list for the checkboxes (MAIN, SPECIALS, PRICING). This works fine when 1 checkbox is selected but as soon as the Main Contact also receives specials the person goes to the end of the list. Does anyone know how i can fix this?

    Hope someone can help me out with this. I have made a score field in my DB (edit box / number). I want to be able to fill in a score like 50% or 100%. The percentages correspond with the status of a project. I would like to link the percentages to a layout.     I've read a couple of threads that might relate to this question but the solutions seem rather complicated. I have a very simple (and flat) database listing some fabrics. I have a checkbox field where I check who has chosen a given fabric. At the end of the day, I'd like Filemaker to give me a total of how many accounts have chosen each fabric. Is there any way (without completely redesigning the database) to have Filemaker simply count the number of "checks" for each fabric and return the total in a field?     Hi, everyone, I'm trying to make up a database of my record collection. I hav the fields YEAR, LABEL, TITLE and ARTIST. I can get my conditional value list to work so that when I click on LABEL it brings up the lables for the YEAR that I selected. My question is, how can I get the TITLE to show only the titles for the label and year previously selected and then have the ARTIST field display only the artists for that TITLE, LABEL and YEAR?     I have two separate files. One is a Sales Order.fp7 containg records holding my sales data. The second file is an Inventory.fp7 containing my product inventory. My inventory is setup so that each item has a category. For example, Main Category --> Fruit, Item --> Apple. I have setup on my Sales Order screen the ability to choose the Main Category using a dropdown list. I now want to filter the choices based on the Main Category selection.     Hello, I am trying to create a list of checkboxes. I have a value list with 5 entrys each seperated with a carrige return. My field's control style is set to display as checkbox set and is set to display values from my valuelist. Now the field in question does display the selection properly however the checkboxes are not selectable in browse mode. They are there because when I "Click & Hold" where they should be I do get the outline of a checkbox they just dont display as selected or unselected. Any idea what I may have done wrong? Right now I have a pop up menu and when selected it shows both fields values side by side. When I release the mouse to chose a selection the field only displays the first fields value. The first problem is with the value list when it is define as display only related values. The value list works sometimes and sometimes it does not. When you click into the fields the list might appear and then it might not. I want to check positive responses to a long list of symptoms as they are asked and then have only the checked items appear in a separate text field in paragraph form. I would like to add the results of other lists to the same text field. The value list is supposed to come from a field called AcountName in tableB. In tableB, these Account records have a SortOrder field, each with a unique character.     Hi Guys I'm having a problem which I suspect is very simple to sort out. I normally use FM on a Mac, where I can easily select multiple items in a value list at the same time by using the Apple / Cmd key, then hit return to add all of those items to my choice. However, I don't appear to be able to do the same thing on a PC. This may be because I'm attempting to do it using Virtual PC running Windows XP rather than a seperate machine, but maybe someone can help? On the Jobs table, I want to select the "League Name" which is the Customer's Business Name for practical purposes.     Hi, I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to jump to records via a pull down menu. For example, if I had a database of records each containing a first name field and a last name field. I would like a pull down menu where you see a list of all the last names, and when you select a last name from that pull down menu, you are taken to the record containing that last name.     I am trying to figure out how to handle this problem, and I am sure the experts on here know the answer. I have a layout that has a value list to select the employee. The value list shows related values based on a table that filters out employees that are not mine. So when a Supervisor goes to the layout and makes a record, when he selects an employee, only his show up. The Supervisor may have 13 employees, but if i didn't do this, all 350 would show up in the pop-up list.     I have used the infininate assignments example from filemakermagazine to create a 5 level dynamic value list. In the sample filemakermagazine uses a portal to select from that list. I am hoping to show the parent list items in 1 window, and show the children for each subsequent level in its own value list display.     I have an invoicing database that pulls pricing information from another table. We have multiple prices for the same items depending on different criteria. What I have done is create a table that holds pricing information and this table has multiple entries for each item depending on how many different price options there are. From there I print out reports to each school showing the complete list of what courses each teacher is going to using portals. No problems. But... The last report I did was four pages for each school, on page three I needed to show all of the teachers in the school not just ones which were allocated courses. Also since some teachers are in the system more than once becuase they are going to more than one course I needed only unique values.     I have a value list on the current table that has become too large, so I have transferred the list to a separate table with each item being an individual record. I have set up a relationship between the two tables and a drop-down list that can access this table. My problem is that I wish to retain the existing data from that value list for the current records but be able to utilize the new method for new records and perhaps even change previous ones. Unfortunately changing the field drop-down list from the old value list to the new one causes the old data to disappear.

In FM6 if you created a value list using values from a related file's fields with 'Also Display value from' the second field, and then when you use a popup menu, when you selected a value, ONLY the first field's value is displayed. However in FM8 once selected, it displays BOTH field 1 and field 2. In other words, lets say you have two fields that you select to be your value list. When clicking the mouse on any one of these check boxes, we get this message: " 'Name of field' is defined to contain only specific values. You must enter a valid value."     I have been searching for a method to let my users alphabetically sort a value list. Finally It occured to me ! You can creat a field and have the field be set to the value of ValueListItems ( fileName ; valueList ) of that value list and then use that field's content as a value list. Or an easier way is to set up a table and have only one record in that table, and keep a field for every Value list. Then make valuelists using the content of the new table's fields which will be automatically sorted. I hope this helps. Xoomaster.
