Hi all, I have a two conditional value list issues / questions that I am hoping to get some assistance with. The two issues are: A Conditional Value List when CREATING records (BROWSE mode). See layout “WEIGHT” for notes on the layout itself. A Conditional Value List when SEARCHING records (FIND mode). See layout “UNIT OF MEASURE TYPE” for notes on the layout itself. File attached. Hello, I have two tables, both have a field "name". Let's call them the "dads" table and the "moms" table. In a third table (call it the "children" table) I want to have a field ("parent") where the user can choose a name using a drop down. The values in the dropdown should be all available names of dads and moms. I cannot find a way to concatenate the lists. I can build a concatenated list in a calculated field but I cannot find a way to use that list in a dropdown. Is there a solution?

Hi, I'm trying something that seems very simple, but I can't make it work for some reason. I've tried all sorts of joining tables etc. I have three tables: A, B, and C. Table A is the parent of both B and C. (so there is no actual relation between B and C, but there are records in B and C with a common A father). I want to add a field to C that will store a field's value from B. For that, I want to create a value list of values from B for the user to choose from. However, I do not want to show every possible value from B, only those that share a common father in A with the relevant record of C. Is there a simple solution for that? Thank you

Hi gang, I'm creating a day trading journal. One feature that would be useful is, after I upload my chart markups, to be able to hide the right-hand side of the inserted image to give a little simulation of what the chart looked like at that exact instant. Kind of like a very rudimentary bar replay, for those of you familiar with day trading. I'm imagining a rectangle shape that I can change the width of from browse, by dragging a side with my cursor. I'm just jumping back into FM after about 10 years, so maybe there is some new kind of functionality that could allow me to create this effect? Thanks!

I have a date field on a layout (in a portal, if that makes any difference) that allows the user to select a date with the drop-down calendar. I noticed that it is replacing the date selected by the user with the current date, at least at first. If you click it again and re-select the desired date, it will stick the second time. There are no auto-enter options or default values set. I have the 4-digit year and not empty requirement boxes checked. What gives? This is in FMP 16.

I have a portal through which I create records. The relationship involves a date field in the parent table (so I set a date and then create the records in the portal that gets automatically the date given). I also use that date field to filter the portal content so I can navigate and see the created records. What I’d like to accomplish is what I’ve faked in the image attached. As I create several sets of records for different days, I loose track of what days have records created. So I came with the idea I represented in the image. I have a portal with an incremental search field. works great. I also, have a button bar with button reflecting file extensions. ex: pdf, pages, doc, jpeg, etc. The button bar with the scripts work great by filtering each file extension. The issue is I want the filtered result but I also want to be able to search incrementally within that filtered selection. Any assistance would be appreciated.

hey all, hope somebody can help. What I am trying to do is very simple I am sure, but I think I must have brain fog as I've stumped myself! To keep it easy, I have three key tables: 1) Days (where each record is a unique date) where lots of other information is held in other fields. 2) Foods (with a list of possible foods that can/have been consumed) together with extra information such as calories etc.. and 3) Meal Names ('Breakfast, Lunch etc). In the middle of the 3, I essentially have a join table 'Food Line Items' to allow many-to-many relationships between them all. ie. each meal can have multiple foods, each day can have multiple meals etc. …

I was trying to do a work around to make a portal sortable by different fields. I created a field in my related table that is a calculation which is Get (RecrodNumber), then a script that will go sort that table how I want it to sorted. It is correctly sorting the related table, and it is showing the record numbers in order as it should on that page. But when I set the portal to sort by that field, it won't do it. I can specify any other field and it will display them in the order of that field, but not the record number field.. When I click into a field in either Browse mode or Layout mode a light blue glow appears around the field border. I have seen posts that said that you can’t get rid of this blue glow because it is a built-in feature of FM to indicate that this is the field that currently has focus. It is very annoying and, if you can’t get rid of it, is there a way to at least change the colour from blue to something that better suits your theme? Below is an image showing what I am talking about.

I use radio buttons vertically (0, 1, 2, 3...), and another field (a merge one) with the choose function to show the "tag". Is there a way to do the same but horizontally? The problem is that horizontally it shows the values from the value list. I make the text color match the the color of the background, and I does the trick. Is there a better way?

The button in the video (Add Alert Trigger) is grouped with the plus sign. Both are svg's and neither is set to display a background (square/gray) on press, hover, etc.. Hi all. I am attempting to filter a portal in a few different ways. I have a daily time sheet displayed in a portal that is department specific. Table: Day Portal Table: DailyTimes (Day::ID = DailyTimes::DayID) Each work day the user opens the current day record and can open a card window and be shown another portal with applicable crew who are in the system that could be working that day. Table: Day Portal Table: PR_Crew (another instance of the "Crew" table). Not every crew member works every day. I've created a sample file (attached) as I'm getting a flicker when triggering a slide. I broke down one of my layouts to try and find what's causing it, but when I got down to only the basics, the flicker still existed. In the sample file you'll see that I've added margins as a test and instead of resolving anything, the rectangle on slide 2 shifts position after opening. Maybe this is expected behavior as I don't customarily use margins in slides, but I'd appreciate comments on both (flicker and margin shift) if anyone knows. Thanka Test_Slide_Flicker.fmp12

Greets, all: I have a form where users are required to fill out a minimum set of fields for the record to be valid; once they do, a calculation within a Button Bar button changes its text from Incomplete to Complete. That works fine. What's problematic (to me) is that as the user enters text in the last field that requires data, the aforementioned button won't change state until the record is committed. I tried setting the Script Trigger in that last field to OnObjectModify or OnObjectKeystroke, but with every keystroke FileMaker barks "Before typing, press Tab or click in a field, or choose the New Record menu command," even with the Commit Record's dialog is s…

Filemaker 16 pro on the Mac - Ventura 13.0.1. HP OfficeJet 9015e Printer Long term Filemaker user. clearly used to be able to do this easily. Regardless of the Layout, when in table view wanting to print our what's showing specifying all "records being browsed" in the print dialogue box, the app only prints out one record - the record in the table that happens to be selected. This has never happened to me before. "Records being browed" are all the records currently showing in the table view, right? Is there something I'm missing? Some setting that prevents Filemaker from pushing out all "records being browsed" in the table to the printer?

I must be missing something, but I only see a way to disable the Window Maximize on creation of a new window and don't see how I can disable this upon app startup. I'd like to have a button (bottom right) always visible but I don't see a way to have it be independent from the slide beneath it. Because of the position of the button, FM assumes it to be part of the slide. As an experiment, I grouped if with a rectangle with the top, left corner being outside the slide, but as you'll see in the attached video, the slide initially conceals the button even though the group is to the Front. Hopefully I am in the correct forum. I am using FM Ver 14 to document accessory install dates. When traveling, I use an iPad (iOS) to track the dates, but update the accessory date installed on my iMac and share with my iPad. If I use the 1/22/2023 date format, my calculations are correct, however when I share with my iPad or iPhone, the dates are 01/22/2023, resulting in "Time in Service" date errors. How can I format the dates in order for the iOS (iPad) dates to show correctly? I have attached screen shots of the issue

I'm using Adjust to Fit for FM GO and would also like to disable pinch/zoom but the Set Zoom Level script command does not seem to be able to LOCK without selecting a zoom percentage. Setting a Zoom % negates the Adjust to Fit command.

In the attached video you'll see a popover flicker upon opening (via popover button). There's no script trigger set nor any other reason I can identify for the flicker. I’m considering adding popovers to my main layouts (accessible only to my account) which will contain most or all fields, portals, etc., to ease testing and more. #1 Since the popovers will be hidden from view, do the fields, etc cause any slowdown, memory usage, or other negative issues? #2 If the popover button is visible, but the popover window is not open, is memory, etc impacted or only when the popover window itself is opened? Basically, is there a cost to having items on-screen (but hidden behind tabs, slides, popovers, or through use of the Hide Calculation) or are the same detrimental effects realized whether visible or not? …

This must be listed in a million places, but I can't find it. I know in the new Filemaker you have to hit tab to edit a button. What if you wanted to edit the graphics and styles on a whole bunch of buttons? You can't use tab and shift or command. If you do, it doesn't select all the buttons for editing. What's the trick? Hi all. I believe this has a simple solution, but I've been unsuccessful. I have a table of records (table "b" - "Entries") shown in a portal on table "a" ("Tester"). Table "C" shows the occurrences without duplicates. These records have two values that need to be "summarized" within the portal. Furthermore, in table "a" I have two global fields, "start date" and "end date." To further breakdown the related records I have a relationship filter: "start date <= check date" and "end date >= check date". I’m trying to set up a simple “Dashboard” style layout, the objective being to help users see the state of play with orders at a glance. As things stand, the Dashboard layout is based on its own table, and uses filtered portals to show records from an Orders table. So my prototype dashboard consists of a bunch of small portals, each filtered differently to give a total number of orders with a particular status. As you'll see in the attached video, when leaving the Address field, the blue line in place when the field is In Focus disappears other than the top section. Turning off the Inside Shadow fixes the problem. Is this a known issue or something I'm doing wrong? BlueLine.mp4

In FM charting, is there a way to prevent the longest bar (or stacked bars) from taking up the entire width? In the image below you'll see a chart based on 'time' data spanning only a few minutes. I'd like the full width of the chart to represent 1 hour (for example) therefore the lines would only fill 10% of the chart width currently. I know there are multiple other options such as JS, buttonbars, repeating fields, etc., but traditional charting is doing what I need with this exception. Thanks.

I am looking in the FM world for someone with experience linking records to other apps. Specifically, I use Hookmark (previously Hook) from CogSciApps. I want to be able to link to FM db items in a writing project where I am gathering my data. This is entirely macOS ecosystem. The attachment is a screenshot of the Hookmark pref to configure another app link correctly. I have tried putting a link into a FM container. Hi all, I'm currently testing our filemaker database on Server and Client 19, previously using 16. When viewing layouts that previously printed off as PDF, they're now cutting in half and being split into multiple parts. The page split is in the green box in the below image: In layout mode in the position section, I can modify the width but not the height. Does anyone know how I can solve this?

Now when I add .SVG icons, the preview in the picker is tiny, versus in the past, the preview would be full frame. See attached examples to illustrate what I mean. I'm (knowingly) doing nothing different, been making custom .svg icons for many years, never had this issue. This only changed when I upgraded my computer, also Adobe Illustrator has been updated... I've checked the code, and I do not see anything different between the two files. Somehow the thumbnail is effected during creation, and not represented in the lines of code? As you'll see in the attached video, when an OnTimer script runs, the hover point of my mouse is affected. As a test, I put EXIT SCRIPT on the first line of the script, then a HALT SCRIPT. The simple running of the script is causing the oddity as no script steps (other than the EXIT and HALT) occur. I need to periodically check for remote data change to trigger a portal refresh, therefore the onTimer script. Adding a FREEZE command changes nothing. Is there an alternate way to refresh a portal/layout upon data change from another location without the use of an onTimer script AND/OR is there to eliminate the mouse hover change whenever the script runs? …

I have a layout with multiple portals and quite a bit going on behind the scenes. There was a very noticeable delay in portal hover effects and tooltip presentation so I tore the layout apart to find the cause. It turns out that none of the complexities had anything to do with it, so I thought I'd share the cause with you. I'm attaching 2 videos which unfortunately don't show the portal hover row background color, but you can see the tooltip delay, which is gone in the second video. Hi, for some time now my previous webviewer showing lat- lon coordinates is showing an overlay stating this website cannot be loaded correctly. I checked my api key if its working, if my google account has billing enabled and if the java is enabled. However, still the overlay persists. This is my code in the webviewer. I'd like to have an indicator at the top and bottom of a portal to show that there are rows above or below that are not currently visible. Presumably I'd need to know how many rows are in the portal, and what row is at the top and what row is at the bottom of the currently visible rows (or what row is at the top and how many rows are visible). I haven't been able to figure out a way to do this. Ideally I want an button above the portal and one below, which can be disabled when the list is at the top or bottom respectively, and which will move the portal up or down a single row when they are clicked. Is there a way to do this?

I'm currently using FileMaker Pro Version 12 for the PC in order to be able to read/write files developed on archive version 4.0 files. (*.FP3) (I was informed that versions after 12 would NOT read *.FP3 files) My goal is to migrate to the iMac, so my questions are: will my version 12 application work on the iMac 24? What are my options for sorting a portal which displays records from the same table that the layout is based on? There's a products table and a status table. The products table contains a list of unique items, and the status table indicates the status of the product for each year. My layout is based on the products table and contains a global field to select a year, which returns the status for that year in the product portal. The problem is that my product list won't stay sorted. I'm working on a sort of iTunes library solution. I'm playing a selected song with javascript in a webviewer. I got the idea, and how to do it, from Jeremy Brown's video linked below. At first I had the webviewer on the main layout, but this was a problem, because every time the user makes a record change (eg clicking a checkbox, etc) it refreshes the webviewer. That slows it down quite a bit, because the javascript in the webviewer is reloading the base64 data again and again, even though its the same song. I have a layout with records in a list in the body and a portal in the footer. When i am in the portal the mouse scroll wheel scrolls both the portal rows and the record list. When I am in the record list the mouse wheel only scrolls the record list. Is there a way to stop the mouse wheel from controlling the record list and portal rows at the same time when I am in the portal? I don’t require the portal row to scroll with the mouse wheel at all. Does anyone know if the get trigger keystroke function can control the scroll wheel? and if so what number is it? FM version 19.3.2.206 Windows

On the FMP 19 Help page ( https://help.claris.com/en/pro-help/content/tooltips.html ), in the Notes section, it says: Your operating system determines the tooltip font, font size, and display time. Hi - I am trying to setup a valure. It seems pretty simple, but having trouble making it work. I am trying to base the value list items on the values in a field in a related table. Hi Forum, and I'm sorry as I know I used to know this...lol I have a calculation field showing results. The results are longer than the field. How can I scroll the field without putting a cursor in the field? I have to allow field entry or I can't scroll. On the desktop it puts a cursor in the field and many actions trigger an error message about '...not being modifiable'. And of course on IOS, it pops the keyboard, and any keyboard stroke triggers the same message. Was just wondering if anyone had a method, trick or work around. A merge field doesn't scroll. I did try to export field contents, or save as PDF. But it wasn't working for me…

Greets, all: I have a portal where I want to highlight the text field in it (in the first row) if a user fails to select a value for it; it would de-highlight after at least one value is chosen. I tried using not IsValid ( EVENT_PRESENTER::_kflt_Event_ParentID ) as a calculation, and it sorta works: the field de-highlights after the first portal row field has a value, but still highlights the empty waiting/next portal row field beneath it. I have the following tables: t_Events t_BookedItems and t_Items The t_Events and t_BookedItems are related. t_Items is a table full of items that can be booked for events. I don't know what the feature is called so I don't know where to look for help. I created a new database using FileMaker's template, Contacts. After leaving the cursor on the field "State" a label pops up. I don't know what this feature is called so I don't know where to go to change it. I changed the name of the field to "Province" and also changed the place holder to Province, but the label still pops up saying "State." How do I change this to say "Province" - Thanks!

Greetings, all: I have two portals (to different tables side-by-side in the same layout.) In the left portal is a value list (Services) that's accessible by clicking the <CLICK ME> popover button (in the screenshot.) However, our manager wants to change it from a value list (within a popover) to a portal (which gets my endorsement because I'll be able to parse the data easier) because the value list takes up too much real estate. But, as you know, you can't put a portal within a portal, so how can I pull this off in this layout...which she doesn't want to change?

Can anyone acknowledge/confirm? I notice some strange behaviour with FileMaker 19.1.2 and also in 19.2… I have these files that are already hosted for years on FileMaker Server, gradually evolving from 7 to 19. Over the years those respective files got their own theme, and until now the behaviour was something like: "use the last used theme" or something. So for new layouts, I get Minimalist or the custom theme of the file. Now all of a sudden, I get this butt ugly (sorry) Apex Blue theme on new layouts, and it is very annoying. I probably have to take the files locally and force some new defaults in them, but anyone having experience with this?

I'm wanting to create a value list that offers years in the range 5 years prior through to 5 years after the current year, self updating from year to year via calculation. I have found the range I need through a custom function with parameters of starting year and ending year which returns a single field with the list of years within the one field. I can't however figure out how to use this single field of multiple values as a value list. It may be obvious but I haven't been able to find a way of achieving what I want - it may not be the best way so any help is appreciated.

A user is in a field which displays a dropdown list and hits the 'ESC' key, thereby selecting no item from the list. I'd like to trigger a script at this point, but it seems that simply closing the dropdown list by means of the ESC key, remaining within the same field, cdoesn't fall within the functionality of any of the script triggers. Is this correct? Is there a workaround? Put in a different way, if a user hits the ESC key, opting not to select an item from the dropdown list, I want to close the popover which holds that field. Is this possible? Thanks

(Refer to the attached) Greets, all: I'm racking my brain on how to pull this off: The Parent table has school district records and the Child table has tasks needed be done for each district; the AT Responsible is the name of the person assigned to each task record. Hello, I'm trying to make my first filemaker app. It's a simple app with an order table, and a products table with a relation between the two tables. I made a layout with a portal that displays many fields as Order Nr, Date, Name and in the portal price quantity total etc.. If I change for example the price of a product in the portal area it changes the price in the products table. How is it possible to change a field value without changing the value in the origin table ? I hope my question is clear un understandable.

I have a database of audio tracks. The audio files themselves are stored on AWS S3 using cloudfront. The database is a list view, with a popover button on each row. When the popover button is clicked, it shows some additional info and options, and plays it in a little webviewer, which references a cloudfront URL. I have found this to be faster than downloading the file into a container and then playing it with FM's built-in audio controls. And also I prefer the way the controls are shown in the web viewer - I get duration, forward and back, and a slider, for "free". Anyone know why I might be getting pixelated edges on my circles/ovals? I've experimented with all variations of radius sizes, etc. The version on the left has a border of 5. FM 19/Win11. The original UI had 7 individual tabs functioning and located similar to a website navigation menu The main Contacts screen included individual portals to Phone, Address, Email, URL and Notes tables Those portals had links to their lists not to the above listed tabs. Updating to conform to FM upgrades through the years and better accommodate multiple devices My goal is to eliminate the tab navigation structure while keeping all the same info on the Contacts page. I tried using a tab structure with portals, but that doesn’t seem viable. What would be? Some combination of Button Bars, Sliders, Portals and/or Tabs? Any input would be much appreciated.

Why would my checkmarks shrink and/or how do I control their size? When I set up this field two weeks ago, the checkmark was at least as big as the box and maybe bigger. Now it's struggling to be visible. I've been developing with FileMaker since 1992 and never encountered this one. Couldn't find an answer via Google. Thank you in advance.

Hello, I've been out of the Filemaker world for about a decade but I'm diving back in. I'm trying to develop a dispatch system that includes a 'run card' for each box location. A run card is basically a 4x4 table showing who responds to the box, who responds to cover, and for which level alarm. The table header is box assignment engine, box assignment ladder, cover assignment engine, cover assignment ladder; and the rows are first alarm, working fire, second alarm, third alarm. In the attached video, you'll see a portal at the back, then 2 independent slide panels. As I hover over one, the portal in the back is not effected. As I hover over the slide panel to the right, you'll see the portal rows reach to the mouse hover. Any thoughts why this happens over one slide panel but not the other? I'm using FM Pro 17.0.7.700 on a 2015 iMac running OS 11.6.1. It's been a while since I had to add/change fields and I do not belive I've had to do that since I started using v. 17. I was in the "Enlightened" Layout and wanted to change a field from Arial to Times New Roman. I could not do it. I could change the field color, I could change the font size, but I could not change the font. Is there a secret handshake for this process or am I missing something very obvious? Thank you for any help. Oh, is it possible to NOT have a Theme?

I got two email address fields. Validated for a @ present, and no hard returns and no empty spaces. Both are set for entry in the Find mode. Rather plain. Entering an existing email address into the Find mode, delivers a Not found. The others fields do act normal in Finds. The email address field is just one of many. The dbase has been operating since 1988 and I have never experienced this odd behaviour. I tried with the validation switched off. No difference. Any idea what I might have overlooked?

We are trying to make a database for storing information that we store during inspection of a building so we add our drawing to FileMaker as a picture and on this picture would we like to add a circle and a line to where a problem is found in the building. In the circle we like to have a number that is pull from the current record in fm. The picture/drawing is what the architects have made from the building. Any if you have any good solution for this and I hope you understand what I mean😀

I have an Aboriginal client in canada who's using filemaker to build a language dictionary with audio to capture their language. They have two custom fonts (Serif and Sans Serif) and use a keyboard app called Keyman to help them insert special characters. Works great with microsoft products such as Word or Excel, but inside a filemaker text field it doesn't. Does anyone have experience with this?

Unsure which forum this should be asked in... Filemaker help provides information on the 3 types of connection status i.e. Not encrypted, encrypted but SSL unverified and Connected and SSL verified. Can anyone help? I am using the 'open new window' command and specifying the new window dimensions without any issues with the new window when it opens. All goes well. But in the background, my original (or old) window seems to be resizing on its own whenever the new window opens. How can I prevent it from resizing? I guess I can script in a work around by maximizing the original window but I think there is something else going on and would rather prevent it from happening in the first place. Can anyone help? I have a simple script that does a copy and paste then commit record in summary view. But at the end of the action the record window jump scrolls to the far rhs. I've removed the tab keys for the fields on the right hand side so its not that. Is there a simple explanation or is there a function I can add that will stop or revert this action. FMP 15.

Greets, all: I feel sheepish asking this, but I think it's style-related: When a user double-clicks on a word in a text field to edit or delete it, it doesn't highlight (as it does in a word processor)--is this something that I need to script using a script trigger, or did I inadvertently mess up the assigned style so words don't highlight as they should? *heavy sigh* I can be soooooo dense sometimes. I have a list of clients. Every time I see them I have to record data about them that changes with time and I have to keep all the data collected, one set per date visited. Each set of date dependent data has multiple sub-sections. Something like this: CLIENT --< DatedFactfind --< Subsection. I'm having difficulty working out the best data structure for my project. The logical structure I have is: Client -< Factfind -< Asset -< "Snapshot" of values and other characteristics at regular points in time. So, Clients are people. I go to see one and I take notes, this is called a Factfind. In the factfind there are sections for Assets and Liabilities. Assets include Bank Accounts, Stocks and Shares, Mutual Funds, Houses. When I open a New Window, the second window is a bit longer than the original window (but it is no wider). And when I open yet another New Window, the third window is a bit longer than the second window. And so on. I am not sure, but I think this might have started with the upgrade to Mac OS Monterey 12.0.1. I'm on FMP18.0.3.317. I've used this particular database for years, and have not made any changes to the underlying structure in many months, possibly a year or longer. I'm creating a billing report; pdf from layout. The typical Database Relationship was Client->Entity->Billable Thing. The report/layout is based on Billable Thing table and then grouped by Client and then Entity with sub-summaries. Now, wrench in the mix, multiple Clients can share an Entity hence the Many-To-Many relationship. When it comes to billing, for example, if two client's share an Entity 50/50, when creating a billing report, I still want Group By Client, then Entity, but show the billable things listed twice, once under each Client/Entity. If one has a tab control panel showing the relevant fields from a record and one of those fields is a container field with say a passport image e.g. jpeg file, the User can see that the field has data in but cannot see the picture as the image (Field size on screen) is too small. How does one enable the container field to be clicked or double clicked so that the image is displayed in another floating window - so User can see the image completely and then escape or click it again to close the window/image? Delete Portal Row with Dialog OFF or ON, reports [3] Command Unworkable (Wrong operating system or mode). Any advice - as this step doe snot work, script correctly moves on to next relevant record, all the way through the DB. I am have done a find for clients flagged as cancelled, then move to policy portal records for the client, check that policy is also flagged as cancelled and if so, wish to delete this record with the "Delete Portal Row [With dialog: OFF]", but then get the error message. I have Clients, who can have many policies and each policy can have more than one claim. The Client view already has the Client details displayed on the left of the screen, a Policy portal next to it and if a policy number is selected (clicked) the policy details are displayed below - all on one screen. I borrowed a Theme from a friend for learning purposes and when entering data in Browse mode the borders on EVERY field, check box, etc... the lines become dotted. But on my friend's solution, his theme the dots don't happen at all. His borders don't appear to become active when entering data. They stay solid and very much more visually pleasing. I have done a side by side comparison of every option in the Layout Inspector and cannot find a single difference between his file and mine. Hello, I am trying to open a local video in Web Viewer to play and loop it for an advertising kiosk without internet. Unfortunately I can't find a way using native filemaker (without plugins) to open a local file, in my current FM version (19.3). Microsoft Edge open the local file as: file:///C:/video.mp4, doesn't matter if is root or temporary folder (already tried all, and doesn't work). I have a "Client" table with a standard serial number primary key, and a text field that contains the client name. I have a value list that has the primary key as the first value, client name as the second value and "Show only values from second field" selected. On a few different layouts I have popup menus using this value list. I am encountering a really strange problem, whereby if the client name includes a number, the popup menu will show the client name value of the record whose primary key is that number. I have a set of tabs in a layout, that shows multiple records below (based on a portal record filter.) It is cell tower information on signal strength. Normally when i create a new record I like using global field for the key data (I consider key field those field required when creating a record). I have a "purchase date" field on a layout. I know I can set the format to "as entered", "12/28/14", "Dec. 25, 2014" etc. But I would like to let the user choose the format, say from a pop-down list. I suppose I could stack a bunch of differently formatted fields on top of each other, and hide all but the one format the user chooses. But is there a simpler way?

I am not sure if this is possible and I cannot find information on it. I have several records and I want to flip between form view and list view which I can do. Is it possible to have two buttons (form and list) and place them on top of each other? When I press 'list' it will show list view but the form button. Then when I press the form button it will display the form view and the 'list' button. Thanks.
