  1. I've got a network between 2 pc's, 1 color laser printer and 1 laser printer. The computers are both printer client and server (1 printer is linked in local to both). The program used is filemaker pro 4.0, but I don't think that is the problem, 'cause the trial of filemaker pro 6.0 doesn't make any difference. The problems started when I upgraded the 2 machines with windows 2000 (from win98SE), we use postscript printers drivers, and there are many differente settings to print properly. These settings need to be saved on the file to record a script (the same as macros more or less), and it always worked fine with win98se. But now changing (or sometimes even usin…

I am running Filemaker v5.03 with Filemaker Server 5 on Windows NT platform. My Purchase Order database has been running fine for a year, but now having problems with data disappearing. A portal in the Purchase Order file indicates invoices paid against the Purchase Order to date. The user enters new invoice details in global fields and a script checks the information and adds the invoice to the Invoice file. The weird thing is that when a new invoice is added, it sometimes overwrites the previous invoice entered - weird and erratic. Any ideas before I get the dreaded Access dumped on me?

  3. Our situation: We have a server (running Windows 2000 Server) with a copy of FileMaker 6.04. We use this to open 6 related database files, in multi-user mode. We also have Web access enabled. One of the files causes the error message "Filemaker Pro Developer.EXE has developed a problem and needs to close." but only if I open it through the related file. If I open it directly it's fine. If I run the program from my mac, it all works perfect. I have another relational file that also works fine from both PC and Mac. Recovering the file doesn't do the trick. Any ideas?

The driver implements all required and optional DataBase interfaces in System.Data and is provided as a set of DLLs to include in your project. Documentation is also provided. Hello We've just had a pentium III windows NT4 computer donated to our small charity. We run FMP5.5 on a network using FMP server. I installed FMP on the new workstation and tried to open a file through the host. I got the access violation 0xc0000005 message. Any ideas what that could be? A web search only threw up the suggestion of a conflict between the service pack and FMP. I don't really know what that means! Although I manage the IT here, I'm very self taught and don't necessarily understand all the technical terms. But if anyone has any ideas, that would be great. thanks nicole

  10. Hello all, I've developed a good solution to be used in stand-alone settings. Now I need to make it multi-user-friendly.... I've done the obvious things like setting the files as multi-user. But what do I need to do to make it really multi-user friendly? When writing flat-file db's in Perl, I've gone to great lengths to make sure that one user wasn't using a file while another wanted access to it. What do I need to be aware of in File Maker? How do I deal with 2 users wanting to access a file at the same time? What happens when scriprs collide? Where should I go? Thanks for any insight. Dan

  15. It's just a minor nuisance. But about once a month or so, the Filemaker program just won't start. I fix it by deleting the fmf file, and then the program re-creates the font file and opens up fine again. It only takes a couple minutes. Is there a permanent solution to this problem? Now I've had to load one of our copies of FM 4 onto a new COMPAQ N1000/Win 2k laptop and run into an odd problem. When I'm entering text into a text field and hit the 'return/enter' key (i.e. the ordinary CR key) to generate a new paragraph, FM jumps out of the text field, as though I'd hit the 'enter' key on a numerical key pad. When I attach an external keyboard, FM performs just as it should. As a work around I'm now using the on-screen keyboard, which behaves 'properly' to enter CRs. But there must be a better way! A difference I noticed in the Filemaker 5 or 5.5 versions for Mac and Windows is in the pop-up menu's. On macintosh, the pop-up menu opens with the mousecursor on the selected item. That's fine, because clicking without moving the mouse exits the pop-up menu not changing the selected item. On windows, in the pop-up menu the cursor is set on the upper first option. That means, that clicking changes the selection if a selection was already made (and not being the first option). When a user accidently clicks on a pop-up menu, an unwanted change is likely to happen, unless he is clearly instructed to LEAVE the pop-up menu before clicking again. Does anyone happen to k…

I posted something along this line in another string in this forum, but am asking for ideas as I am baffled. The situation is this: Using files from the FileMaker Solutions Framework obtained from FileMaker I developed a human resources management system with a dozen files for a client. Nice set of systems with a lot of work already done. I like the setup and appreciate Matt Petrowksy's generosity in making it open and available to all. I did (and do) all my development on a Macintosh, as I have for 16 years. However, for the first time, ever, some of the files in the system force FileMaker to quit when opened on Windows. I have tried the files on three different windo…

Did somebody tried to decrease priority of FileMaker process? Even it is on "normal" it is occupying 100% of processor time. We have build killer machine for night script processing: W2k, 2.8GHz P4, 533MHz RIMM memory, 1GB network, fastest SCSI 15000 RPM drives. FM client is so badly written application, that Task Manager, which is process with highest priority is getting so few cycles, it takes minute or two to display window. When I access this machine through PC Anywhere, the first screen is displayed after 15-30 minutes. When FM is idle, the screen is shown in split second. Any ideas?

Hello, I have a Dell Win 2K server that I just recently starting hosting FMP files using WC. My problem is sometime during the night, FMP seems to just quit. It will be running when I leave at night, but in the morning it's not running anymore...no error messages and nothing is in the Event Log.. the only other program I run is Retrospect and have it set to do a backup each night @ 10:00. I have changed the scripts to run them while I am at work, but that doesn't seem to be causing it.. Retro ran the script just fine, leaving filemaker running. Any other thoughts as to what might be going on? Thanks!

How many computers should be linked before it's worth buying the Server version, how many can run on the one copy of FMP Server, and what else (if anything) is needed? It would be nice if the FMP website were more informative. Ah well.

It is not complicated, but works so sloooooooowly (having just 3 comps) - it takes about 6 sec to perform all scripts. DB exists in a server (NT 4.0) - it is run as a host and opened by 2 users as guests. All db consists of 5 files (in FMP called databases). Calculation requires to find some data in other files (using perform external script) and then returns to original file. Why it is so slow? I noticed that being a guest - even when I had opened the other file before (having two files opened) - performing an external file - it reopens the file again from the server (host) and…

So this client with three PCs networked, with three copies of FMP (one on each machine), and the files on the machine we'll call the "Server", has a container field in which pictures are imported -- well, actually a link is created (there are thousands of records, each with one pic). Even though another machine (not the Server) is used when creating the links, many of the linked pics cannot be seen on either of the two non-Server computers (they can all be seen on the Server). When the link is re-created, it works fine, until the user closes and reopens the FMP file, and then it's screwed up again. Any ideas? Any questions? Anyone for tennis?

If you then log off and then log back in do you again have to reset it to TCP/IP? If so, what user account are you logging in with? If you have not tried so already, log in as local NT Administrator, set FM to TCP/IP, then log off and back in as Administrator and see if the TCP/IP setting is retained.
