  2. Just working with modifying some layouts using tab control instead of buttons/layouts and I have something weird happening. In layout mode I have created 4 tabs with fields and objects clearly placed on each tab area. When I switch to browse mode, I see all fields and objects for each tab AT THE SAME TIME, stacked on top of each other. This case is true no matter what tab I click on. Strangely, it didn't do it at first but now it is so I have no idea what I did to change things. I know its probably something simple but any ideas? thanks

    FM 6 Database running over Macs of all ages -eMacs, iMacs (anglepoise, standard screen and widescreen models), G4 towers with 17, 19 and 24 inch screens. Current design of database layout seems based on 12" screen in use when dbase was written. I am not a programmer, but maintaining the database/ work record has fallen to me. Is there an elegant (and easy) way of maximising the layout area that will optimise/maximise the layout for these various screensizes? Currently the onscreen size is only a portion of the screen real estate available. Dragging the bottom right corner of layout when in BROWSE reveals part of next record. Can this be avoided b…

    I was not able to find hot to do this so any pointers are appreciated. I have about 800 records. Among the fields I have Item_Name, Picture and Cost. I would like to make a catalog layout where the records would show up horizontally one next to each other rather then vertically. I can get them to show like: Item_Name, Cost Picture Item_Name, Cost Picture Item_Name, Cost Picture Basically a regular list layout.     I have a problem with the format of text that is copied from the internet and pasted into a field. In the table, I have the field set to a particular font and font size. When I manually type in the data the format is fine. However, I get a lot of the information I need from the internet. When I copy and paste the text from the internet into the field the formatting from the internet overrides the settings on the field. Is there a way to force the field to change the formatting to specific settings after pasting the data in? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello, I need to create a product sheet / entry form that lists every product from a products table as well as fields that display and allow the user to enter order values for a particular customer. I have a standard 3-table relationship schema of: Customer (IDCust_pk) Customer_Orders (IDCust_fk, IDProd_fk) Product (IDProd_pk) On the customer layout, I can get a portal to display just the products that the customer currently has orders for. What I want to show is a layout where EVERY product is listed, customer information, and data fields for what the current orders are by product. Any help would be very much appreciated. -Brian

    Aside from doing a screen dump, how can one print a layout--with the header, footer, and all design features--from within FileMaker? Ordinary printing leaves out the header, footer, and design features (like tabs). Ordinarily I wouldn't need these to print with a record, but I do for design documentation.

    Hello, I have a portal that displays some employees tasks, the task can be relatively simple, and take 1 line to explain, but some tasks are more complex, and the information that exceeds the row height are hidden, i need to click over them do display the rest I'd like to know if there is a way to auto adjust the row height to display all the information of that field.     Next Transaction Record problem..... As a point of reference , I posted yesterday in regards to a portal/script interaction..... http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/188361/post/258169/hl//fromsearch/1/#258169 ....and the response yielded a fix to my problem. YES! But now a new issue. Even though there are no records in the table the portal refers to, there is a "default entry" that shows up in the portal, which I do not want there.     Hope I am in the right for this question... I am using a portal for navigation. I have looked at all the examples I can find on how to highlight the portal row. The portal is not a selfjoin as most of the cases i have seen. The portal is populated from a table called catagory. i have the field acting as buttons that run a find script in the layout that the portal is on. all works well. Now i would like the row to stay highlighted after the script is run. all of the examples i have found relate to portals from a selfjoin. Any Ideas?     I have produced a portal containing many container fields which, thanks to other peoples help, works well. I would like to expand this by being able to click on a container object, such as a picture, and have information about the picture displayed in another text box.     Hi. I'm relatively new to Filemaker and have been trying to figure out how to get rid of the main window scoll bar when not in use. At the moment the scroll bar is always greyed out when not needed. This interferes with the look of the window if I place a grey fill graphic at the top to extend the title bar down to form the background of a menu bar. The right hand side can't cover the scroll bar so the window doesn't look like a "real" application. Because of this I've been looking at using Runrev Revolution as a front end to a database. It allows objects to be automatically resizable (now available in FM9 according to the website) and complete control of the windows. …

We ask employees to rank how often they use a particular software and how important training would be. I have created summary fields that give me the Averages of importance. Now I want to display the data in a report. I have a sub-summary section when sorted by Training Program name that displays the Avg of Importance for each training program.   16. Hi there, I am very new to FileMaker, but I am quite adept at other databases (Access and a variety of legal dbs). We are using FileMaker cross-platform - XP and Mac. When I view the Mac terminal I cannot see the contents of any field until I click into that field. I don't know if this is a setting on the users part or a Mac issue (I am a PC user myself.).     Hi, This is my first official post. I was redirected here from Fm tech support. Here is my situation: I am using FMV6.0, Epson LQ-590 Impact Printer, WinXPPro. Here at the office we are required to print these government certificates on an impact printer. These certificates are numbered, preprinted and a bizarre size. Now I am able to print the first page no problem. The problem starts with the line of the second page, it starts too low. Anyway, I have a problem with a script I'm writing to automatically enter a value into a field in a portal. It's a bit bizarre because the script works as long as I click outside the portal after each use.   21. I have a very simple script to duplicate a record, and add ".1" to a certain field. Duplicate Record/Request Set Field [Main table2::Transaction $; Main table2::Transaction #+".1" It basically works, (and if I duplicate a duplicated script, it changes the .1 to .2 which is useful, but odd it does that without me telling it to) but the field it modifies usually has a hypen, which is deleted in the duplicate record field. The original record will show "2003-25", while the duplicate record will show "200325.1". Why is it deleting the hypens, and how do I prevent this?

    Hi, hope somebody can help. Here's a simple example of my problem/question. I have two portals on one layout. The main layout is Employee Name. Portal 1 is a TO DO list and Portal 2 is a DONE list. I have a "Done" button in each portal row of the TO DO list and when you click it, it should send the TO DO item to the DONE portal and delete it from the TO DO list. Likewise, there is a "Back" button in the DONE list which sends that data back to the TO DO list and removes it from the DONE list. I can't figure out how to set up the relationships to make it work.     I am trying to integrate the Interlink (Courier) website in to a tab on my database. It all works OK, but when I click on the button on there web page which prints out the labels nothing happens. When I click on there button from safari, it does not display the lablels, it just brings up the print dialog to select which printer, and the label gets printed.   28. I can't figure out why the "Set Web Viewer" (reload) step isn't working for me. If I go to another layout, the web viewer reloads fine. I've tried defining the Layout Object with a bunch of names, and I've double-checked that the names match in the script step. I've even tried Get(ActiveLayoutObjectName) in the script step. When I was less experienced I created a layout attached to one of the tables in my database for the purpose of excuting scripts that produce reports from other tables in the database. Over the years it has become massive with a lot of buttons for various reports and different output formats.   30. I have a customer table, and a Film table. for every customer i have 1 portal with up to 15 rows. Inside the portal i have a field called "need films" and when i click on the email icon it send an email to our art dep, and it puts an "R" in need films. R stands for request. Now not all rows need films, but what i want is to be able to get the total number of "R" per customer and send that number to my home page that displays all my customers. But i can't do it. (I wish I had the page numbers for you but the book is at work.)For the most part it works with minor but annoying problem. Three tables: Personnel, Positions and Assignments; the are hundreds of personnel and hundreds of positions. I bring them together on the Assignments table.     I am designing a "Call Intake" form to gather information for our Sales department. They want to track, among many other things, what types of calls are being fielded. A call can be a "Catalog" call AND/OR a "Contact Info." call AND/OR a "General Info" call AND/OR an "Order" call.   37. Hi I have built a database with records. This allows me to print envelopes to a client. If I select one record and print the envelope it is blank (not on the screen but in printing and preview). If I select all and hit print/preview (it will now print all records) non are blank. If I than ask it to print/preview the one record that I wanted to print in the first place by entering print from X to X, it prints fine. Any suggestions? Thanks

  43. We have a form at work that we use as a cover page for our documents. Frequently we use a rubber stamp to denote that a vehicle is associated with the record. I would like to add a check box that when checked, makes a box with some text appear on the top of the page when printed.     Okay... I have a question, and I don't even know how to ask it. A client of mine runs a non-profit organization and sends his donors receipt letters. He would like those letters to include a year-to-date total, so they can see how much they've given for the current year. I developed a couple summary fields that seemed to do the trick. But...those fields summarize ALL the donor's giving, not just the current year's. So, for now, it would work, but come January, the total wouldn't go back down to $0. Any ideas?     Hi, As I click to scroll down in the Portal, the records at the bottom apprear to duplicate again and again as I scroll down until the scroll bar reaches the bottom, but they are not really there in the Table. If I go back to the top and just pull the scroll bar to the bottom they appear fine. Why is the Portal scrolling this way.     Hi. Im doing something wrong Im sure, but cannot work it out. I have an database that is maximised for the most of it's operation, and occasionally need to open a small window in the foreground to (for example) select an item from a list but when I create then size (or new window with dimensions) the original window/app also changes size.     Hello I would like to create a button and script that will create new records within a portal. However, I do not want the script to actually go to the portal table's layout to create the record, then go back to the initial layout. Is there any way to create the new record in the portal and stay on the same layout? PS: I tried 'go to portal record' , then 'insert record'. This just adds the record to the overall layout's table, not the portal.

  52. HI, I am trying to display the number of current record in total related records. For example, I have table Client and table Contact. In the layout Client I have portal Contact. Because the Contact table has too many fields, so on the portal I display only one record at a time. I need to show the total number of contact for the client, and also the current record is the 1, or 2 or 3 ... of the total contacts. So, I guess I need to have 2 fields in the Client table , one is current and the other is total. I tried to use function Count, but it does not work at all,maybe because I have not learnt enough.     Hi Anyone know if it's possible to format text based on what's in a field? For example: In my layout I have a field called "status." At the top of the layout I'm using <> to display "Complete," "Pending" or "Working," depending on which is in the "status" field. I want the text in <> to be red when the field for that record is populated with "Working," yellow when populated with "Pending," etc. By the way, does anyone know what that function of displaying text from a field using << >> is called?

    Hi there, I have a checkbox set of several provinces. I have created a calculation field that takes the selected provinces puts them into a list separated by commas. NOW - I am wondering if there is a way to also sort the provinces in alphabetical order. Currently the order they appear in is the order that they were selected. Is there anyway to set up a calculation that will sort the values of my province field? Alternatively, if I could script it that would be fine too. I just need my final result to be the selected values (provinces) in alphabetical order separated by commas for each record. Thanks in advance!

    Hey, I am currently using a value lists for a project and quite new to FM. The value list is getting data from another table first field is our internal product id and also displaying from the same table the name of the product. A product can have the same name but a different id when coming from a different supplier. My problem is when I either sort by the second field or tick the "show valuses only from second field" some of the products vanish from the value list. The ones with the exact same product name but also ones with same product name beginning. Any advice? Thanks

Ive tried duplicating the POS layout and viewing it in preview mode but the portal doesnt change on the invoice page obviously.     I'm not exactly sure where I should go with this but I'll give you my dilemma. I have created a database for a cemetery. The database tracks which section, lot, and grave someone is buried in. My client is looking for a map of the cemetery so thay can click on a particular grave and it would bring up the related record of who is buried. The cemetery is broken up into different sections and they are odd shaped. Any suggestions or examples would be greatly appreciated.

    I've run into an interesting quirk. On Windows XP with 8.5 advanced, I have a list layout with a footer. In the footer I have multiple portals. When I drag and drop text into the portals I get different results. Sometimes the drop does not work, sometimes it drops data into the portal below (a different table and different field), sometimes it unexpectedly creates related records, every once in a while...it works as expected. I've tested the data file for corruption, I've reinstalled the app. The problem goes away if I change the view type to a form. Has anyone else seen this? Is it just me? Any ideas?

    All right, I ordered several FM training CD-Roms that were extremely helpful, but there is still a problem that I am facing that I have been unable to solve. We use FM to track user usage of our equipment, and then cost. Each user is listed under a different boss, and that boss then receives the bill. I have been able to create a report that shows single visit costs per user, total visit costs per user, and total visit costs per boss and then total visit costs for all bosses. This same report also shows me how often each user came in, how often users came in for each boss and how often users came in total. I cannot get the report to give me the total number of users …

    i searched the forums but couldn't find a hint. that's why i'm posting: can i add more avery label formats to the ones already in the filemaker format list? it seems that the ones in the format list are all in US letter format and not in A4 format as we use it in Europe. i need to print the labels in avery 3474 by the way. obviously i could define a customized format but i just can't believe that filemaker doesn't offer a better solution.   71. Hello all, I have recently implemented a new database solution for our lab, but there are some things that don't work quite the way I want them to. One of them is this. There are a number of tables that want to pull calculated reference names from other tables in a value list. If I set the fields to auto enter text calcs, it will allow me to pull them up in the value lists, however then they don't seem to update if any change is made to the originating related records. It displays the information as I want, but I have to do a Find from this page as well, and when I go into Find mode the values/text disappears. We have an employee that is reluctant or doesn't want to use the mouse drop down menu so her dates are always different making searches difficult (she manually enters rather than clicking with mouse). On those fields that are not drop down calendar style it is easy to right click->date format and set my preference (aka override hers) but when there is a drop down format it doesn't give the option when right clicking. That field, Named Non-Active, is a check box with one value. I want to hide that field on the layout unless values in two other fields are met.     I have two database files: Client.fp7 - Tracks time worked on client's case. Phone.fp7 - records phone call message As I get my voicemail messages, I record the information in Phone.fp7. Some messages are related to client that can be found in Client.fp7. I would like to be in Phone.fp7 and have a drop down (or some other tool) that allows me to link the phone message to a client in Client.fp7.     I'm trying to work around filemaker's 12-page per record limit by having a separate report for overflows. I have a seperate input field with instructions to continue into the overflow input field if the input is past a certain length. This goes into a separate report layout that just has the standard header/footer, and this text field for the overflow. I'm setting up a script to print from the main report, then print the overflow report, by record so it prints out properly. Here's the problem: Even if the overflow field is blank (meaning the input data was less than the 12 page limit), I get a page for the overflow, which is blank + headers/footers. I don't want…

    Hey all, I am adding several functions to an existing contacts database (this db is a perfect example of an 'angry fruit salad' database!) And my boss wants a scheduled call back layout that pops up at the push of a button. Now i built him a simple scheduled calls table and a nice little layout that pops up.     I have a portal behaving very oddly. When I create a new entry in the last row of the portal, then it automatically does a find (which results in an error). When I modify a current entry it does nothing (which is what I expect). I cannot figure out what is triggering the "Find" command.
