I have an interview-booking database which is accessible via Instant Web Publishing. When a user books an interview, I would like a confirmation email to be immediately sent back to the user. IWP doesn't support 'Send Mail', so I tried using 'Open URL'. But this opens an email window on the user's machine, which the user has to manually dismiss. Is there any way to automatically email a response in Instant Web Publishing? Or will I have to use a plug-in? Thanks

I'm running a series of rather large databases from which remote users (traveling salesmen) connect to. Because these databases don't function too well through Remote Connection, I set up a Dell Server that runs Terminal Service (allowing the processing to be done locally). It works perfect; however, the salesmen often run a script that sends an email containing information pulled from fields. This is where the problem occurs. The salesmen use Mac computers, the Terminal Service is PC. Since they are connecting to the Terminal Service, it runs the script and opens Outlook Express instead of "Mail" (the Mac equivalent). Hello All - I am using the Productive Computing SendMail plug-in with FM 8 and Outlook. I have a working scrip to pull certain data for customized emails to customers that get routed through my Outlook email account. However, I cannot figure out how to create html emails (nothing fancy, just good looking fonts and maybe a couple of vector graphics). I'm pretty sure there is a way to configure the plug-in to send html email, but there are no clear instructions (at least to me) on the Productive computing website. Can anyone offer help?

We've had this problem in the past, but can't recall how to fix it: ISSUE: Computer had it's user profile deleted (so a new one could be made). Now user cannot send email (as part of a send mail script). The script runs perfectly, but Outlook 2007 does not open up a new mail window and nothing is sent off. In the past I think we used fixmapi.exe to resolve this problem, but now that doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

I'm developing an order tracking solution and need to send to suppliers quotation requests and orders. Ideally, I'd like to send a pdf (human readable and locked) and a data file (xml). Using the SendMail function and Outlook is attractive as it keeps a record of sent/recieved emails outside of a Filemaker solution. (and for the volume of expected emails, will save a shed load of work!) I can dynamically create an attachment and add it to an email. My company is looking at switching to a web hosted version of MS Exchange in an effort to better manage our emails. We have multiple office locations so the idea is to consolidate all email communication to single a server (in the clouds) using the web hosted version of Outlook 2007. Currently each location does a good portion of email from Filemaker using the client version of Outlook Express. The offices are small so each is set up in a peer to peer environment. The company we are talking to has no experience with Filemaker but say it should not be a problem to switch to the web hosted Outlook 2007. I can create a test script with the SEND MAIL script step, using SMTP, and all is fine. But when I put the same script step in my larger script, it crashes when it reaches that step (spinning beach ball). I have tried: 1) removing all calculations from the send mail script step - everything is hard-coded for testing. Technically, that should make the script step totally independent and not care what else is going on... right? hi! Im constructing an automated email function for my FM database. The idea is that it´s going to get the adresses from one field, and the content, subject, names and so on, from another. This will basicly construct the email so that it is ready to send. What i want to do now (as a finishing touch) is just to put an image as an topbar/banner on the mail, just to make it look prettier. It has no other function than estetic. How do i manage this? I´ve experimented with container fields that i upload images to, but it doesn´t work? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Here's an odd one. We have a mixed environment, Mac's and PC's. When I use the script command Send Mail a button on the layout opens a new email message - things work just fine in the PC environment. However, when a Mac user (using Mac Mail) clicks on the same Send Email button she loses her signature. It shows very briefly when the new email message first opens but then disappears and the signature line selection changes to "none." Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I have a DB template that generates an email draft (in thunderbird) to the email contact in a specific record. Everything worked perfect until last week, now when the button is pressed to create an email draft, I get the following error. Hello i work in Shipping company and made a small program, which send email to our ships. I have a problem when i use a script "send email" with e-mail client. This script works with MS Outlook, Thunderbird, but didn`t work with Pocomail. When Pocomail is my default email client and try to send email from my program the message i see is Ether there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the message request.Plese run MS Office Outlook and set it as the default client. Is it possible to use a wildcard to add attachments to my SMTP script? My goal is to add any file from a specified folder without having to add the entire file name, because the file names will change on a daily basis. I thought I could use *.* or *.pdf or *.doc. This would enable me to add these files by simply putting them into a folder.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking to add a feature to a solution that is similar to Yousendit. Want to have an alias URL generated by FM. Send the user the URL. The user clicks the URL which goes to a hosted FM Server. Hi there, While I am working my script, I am using the loop function to generate my end-of-month balance sheet for my customers. I therefore list in Preview mode the summary of all the invoices each customer ows me. This can only be done in preview mode since I utilize the summary and total function to add up the invoice amounts. Hello. I'm running FM Pro 8.5 on Mac OS X 10.4 with MS Office 2004. I have a script that calls the SendMail step and places 400 addresses in the To: field. I am allowing the dialog to appear. When I run the script, Entourage starts up but neither a new message nor a draft are created. The script works fine with Apple Mail - the new message appears with all the addresses in the To: field. I'm having trouble calculating the proper form of an email address for use in the Send Mail options dialog. I'm using the SMTP server option. If, for example, I have a person named John Doe (found in Name field) whose email address is [email protected] (found in Email field) and point the TO section of the Send Mail options dialog to the Email field only, all works well. The email sends properly. But I'd like to send using both the person's name and email address, not the email address alone. In my email client I would simply type John Doe , and that would work. Hey All, Is there a way to have Filemaker secretly send an email without the user knowing it? I'm working an a downloadable project which, no doubt, creates a risk of the user paying for one copy then distributing it to friends with his original serial number and password. Thus I thought about having FM automatically send a secret email every so often to verify the singular use of the product on one computer. Or am I just thinking too hard?

I am trying to get the email campaign management template that came with my FM8 to work properly. Most everything worked like a charm except within the body of the email the values for the fields were not dynamically updated. All I get was , , etc inserted throughout the body. Apologies if this has already been addressed. In the Contact Management template of Filemaker 9 I want to send a broadcast email to a found set of contacts. The Send Mail pull down menu does not allow me to personalize the email body with both and then text data following it. I can do one or the other, but not both. The Email Campaign Management template allows this but not Contact Management... which is the preferred template for my needs. Is there a simple way to work around this?

Scripts that work properly in with Mail.app and Thunderbird only work part way in Entourage. I expect the script to create a new mail message and open it for the users to review and send. When the default client is Entourage the message is created correctly but only as a draft in the Drafts folder(On My Computer). The user then has to go into that folder, open the message and then send it. Any trick to making it open this message automatically for review?

I'm not even sure if I can explain this correctly…that is more than likely why I cant find a relevant search on it. Is there a way for the user to select an email address from a list? Not from the address book. What I have is a script that attaches a container photo to an email (one email one recipient) and I need the user to be able to select an email address from an ever changing list to select the recipient. I'm attempting to create a PDF and attach it to an email. See attached script. It seems to work but not totally correctly. What is happening it that is presenting two emails to the user: 1st email: body contains the PDF attachment but To: and Subject: fields are not filled in. 2nd email: this one is totally correct. There are many email plugins out there. It's difficult to choose the right one. Using criteria like Server support, IWP support, SSL, Attachments, multipart messages, IMAP, pricing, etc, anybody able to contribute info on SMTPit, SMTPit Pro, MMMail, MondoMail, mail.it, SendMail (digital fusion), 360Works Email, etc.

My company sends out maybe 45 to 100 emails a day maybe up to 35 at one time. My question is can FileMaker Advanced do that alone or do I have to buy a plugin? I’m new to filemaker and the fourm and would appreciate your help. John

Once I have the records I want I select "Send Mail" and specify a field name that contains the email address that I want to send the email to, etc. FM then crashes with a WMS Idle Application Error. Hi Guys, I have a portal which contains a number of email addresses. WHat I would like to do is collect all the email addresses from the portal and generate an email I can send out from IWP. Is this possible. The email addresses need to go into the BCC field, and there could be upto 200 at a time. I do have PHP installed on the server if that is any help...any advice much appreciated (ps im looking into the url script step, but I have a feeling it has a limit on the number of characters you can use in the BCC field)

Newbie to FMP. I have a small, simple DB, 4060 records and we used to use the Send Email Script to send out 800+ email from a found set (1487). Now it will hang up on any thing over 150 in the found set. It used to work when the number of records was at about 2000 if that is of any value. The script starts and then stops without putting an email into the Drafts folder of Entourage 2004.

Has onyone had an issue while using SMTPit, the SMTP file ballooning to a ridiculous size?

I thought this would be the easiest thing imaginable, and I'm getting nowhere. I want to be able to hit a button and send an email with merge fields filled in. The Send Mail script allows you to set the "To" to the email field from the database, but I don't seem to be able have the body of the email made up of a combination of text and fields from the database. Can anyone explain where I'm going wrong? I've failed to find a good book for learning how to script in Filemaker. Any suggestions.

I'm a total beginner! I've managed to put together a script that generates an email for each email record in my table. Problem is it generates a separate email for each address, when what I'd actually like to do is send just one email to many recipients from my records. I'm using the send mail script step to send messages. I have some user accounts created where each user can only edit certain fields. When they are done I want them to click on a send e-mail button that I've created so that it sends a message to the next person in line. For sake of shortness, I'll just say the users are A, B, C, and D. What I'm wondering is how do I write my script so that if account A is logged in and clicks the button, a message will be sent to C, but if B logs in and clicks the button it will send to D?

Hi there! I've encountered a really strange problem of FM generated email not sending in Outlook, probably on account of the Sender field needing to be selected manually for every email. The origin of the problem lies with the email organization: it's a small company that uses 1 very large mailbox with aliases for each individual user. The system is set up in this way that no FROM address is filled in, but the user has to select his own name from the address book. Strange and really archaic, I know, but I'm not in a position to change this as this is the express wish of the general manager. Does anyone know any way around this? I'm sending out e-mails but as i put them into the recipients i will select one person from contacts and it will put in a totally different name? They are all sorted and in order. It does not double up on the contact when i print just what when i send e-mails. A system I'm working on needs to be able to generate batch e-mails for orders received each day. E-mail out to each person ordering. The end users want to print (or save) a PDF version of their "official" order form and attach this to the e-mail, then just have a basic piece of info in the email, e.g. "Dear Mr A your order 12345 is attached". Their systems run an Exchange server and Outlook 2000 and 2003 on the desktops. I have a number of email scripts that I use with Outlook Express. After the script runs and generates the email. I am then able to insert the pictures I want directly into the email body. I am trying to upgrade to Outlook 2003/7 and find that after the script runs I am unable to insert a picture. If I generate the email from Outlook, I can. I need some conceptual help. My contacts table has clients, sources and candidates. Candidates will have resume's in a separate table as well as saved as a pdf in a separate folder based on the client. When I send the client a resume I'd like to add the fact that the resume was sent and who's resume it was to a list. Right now I have it set up so I can send an email with an attachment to the client contact or their Assistant and my Activity record will note what file was sent and to whom. I would like to export a layout that has grouped data (grouped by salesperson) into PDF so that the the "Sub Summary when sorted by" field shows. I am not sure if there is a way to do this or not. I want to set-up a way to have our Admin Assistant be able to run a script for tomorrow's leads, group it by salesperson and time (which I have done), and then somehow put that into an e-mail to everyone. The only way I can figure to do this is by exporting it into a file and then e-mailing that file to everyone (done in a script). When I try to export though it does not give you the sub-group headers -- only the fields in the body. Any advice?

I am using the mail.it plug in to export information to pop email and am having trouble formatting the data the way I would like it to show up in the email. I am familiar with TextStyleAdd functions, but can't see to make the text "tab" properly. I am trying to show columns of data in tabbed format so that they show up nicely in a column. ... ie.. Im having a problem using text formatting specifically the text color. Im able to create an email fine, the problme is trying to change the text from black to red. "BOL" & TextColor ( Customer_PO_Tracking::BOL # ; RGB (255 ; 0 ; 0 ) ) when i perform the scripts the new email comes up but the text is still black.

I'm using the 'multiple emails (one for each record in found set)' in a script step. I need to be able to browse for an attachment to those emails. Hi all, This is more of an issue with Apple Mail than with FMP, but since I'm using FMP to generate the message I'll run the issue by you. I'm on Leopard 10.5.1 using Mail3.1 and FMP 9.0.3. I use FMP "Send Mail" script step (no dialog) to send notifications out via Mail. It usually works just fine. But every once in a while when the script is run, I can see that the mail message is created in Mail, all looks normal, and then the mail message disappears. It isn't saved as a draft, queued in an outbox, nor is it sent. It simply ceases to exist, as far as I can tell. I haven't been able to find any pattern as to when it occurs. I have send mail script from FileMaker, which sends an email out of Outlook. Is there a way to return an "true" value in a filemaker text field if outlook actually sends the email out? Im on Windows and FileMaker Pro Advanced 9.

I thought that mac mail would automatically send <<??>> FM makes the email and everything is ok, I have to manually click the send button on the message in mac mail. Any clue as to what I am doing incorrectly? Thanks in advance

I have a large calculation in FMPro 8.5 that generates html code. We tried a report that we would create a PDF with but when the lines get wrapped, the PDF has a carriage return within them. I don't want returns where I didn't put them. Filemaker is doing the job correctly, selecting, copying and pasting from out of the text box is fine- the deal is the PDF. So, is there a way to export the text box to a text file on the users desktop named xxxx.txt where xxxx is a numerical value from within our records.

First off: Marry X-mas to all FM users! But the joy of the season last just as long as work is out... Anyhow, heres my troubles: Im sending emails using name as a variable, such as; "Hi " & $first_name & ", text text text..." What i want is to incorperate a picture on top of the email. As of right now i have a textfield generating the text with the name vaiable, and a containerfield with the pic. Im then trying to combine them when sending the email by letting the messagefield read; mailprogram::mail_output & mailprogram::mail_text but to no luck... any ideas? thanks

I'm making an application to send emails (PDF invoices and scanned attachments) from an SQL database. The problem is that I can only seem to attach one or the other file (The invoice or the scanned attachment) to any one email. The "send Mail" option says "Click Add File to add ONE OR MORE FILES to the path list". But I see that Fenton has said in a different posting that there is a limit of one attachment per email. Anybody know how to attach more than one file to an email ?

Hi, Here is what I have: Click Here What I am attempting to do with the script is send out information in the email body about the offender…name / dob / address etc. The "Offenders Physical Address" is my problem area on the send mail script, the "Physical Address" comes from a related table (Offender_Address_Info) and is shown via a portal on my main layout. The problem with the send mail script is that it is pulling the first address that is shown in the portal. I need it to show the last portal row entry. The "Physical Addresses" are shown and sorted by the date they were entered if that helps. Is there a way for the address in the body…

Hello, I would like to use the sendmail script feature for a database telling the user that the request was received (once they hit the “save” button). This database is going to be hosted by FMSA 8 on Mac OSX and do IWP. It’s a simple database for travel requests. Users will submit a travel requests and an admin will approve/deny or forward to committee etc. I don’t have a default email client configured on a server. If I did, would someone need to be logged in at all times (to a server??)? I am just not getting it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance

I regularly send emails from a database and I always lose the formatting when the email is sent. If I have text italicized or underlined in the body of the email it appears normal when the email is received. Any suggestions?

Hello, How do I send the individual results of a survey as form email via FileMaker? I have just imported the results of a survey into FileMaker Pro. I assumed that I could create a form email which includes individual data and general data and then send the results of the survey to each person that completed the survey, using the "Send mail..." command. One of fields is the email of each survey respondent. However, it appears that the "Send mail..." command can only send one field, can this be right. Let me ask if there is any way to do this. I have a script where we (prior to upgrading to 9...we had 7), had to print to PDF then manually attach to an email we generated from filemaker. Now I would like to, all in one script, create the PDF in filemaker and a formatted email with filemaker data. The problem is the PDF function has an email feature but it doesn't give you any options like the send mail script function. I need to have data populated in the email and attach the PDF...but, alas, I'm lost. Thank you i advance

hello all, i would like to ask the following: when i use the send mail function in filemaker one mail for all people in the database (i have 10 000 entries) it does not work. when i send one by one, it works like a charm, but i have a limit of emails that i can send over my domain email. is there a way to specify the numebr of recipients, for example, 50 per email, so it will send first 50 entries one email, then the next 50 and so on and so forth.... please help me with this, i will be very grateful

I have set up a letter in layout view in a text box with merged fields and would like to send the finished product via the "send mail" in scriptmaker. Is there a way to get the finished letter into a field so it can be sent in the body text of the email? Or even if I could cut and paste the merged document. Browse mode will not allow you to cut and paste a text box. Maybe export to a word doc? I have also tried to format the letter in a calculation field and inserting the fields there. It worked but it is a large letter with many paragraphs,I am not well versed in using symbols to control the editing. This could probably be done. Mine just turned out to be…

Has anyone learned how to send an automatic email from FMP 9 to Zimbra? Zimbra is a browser based email client. I assume I'll need to use the "Open URL" script step. But how will I embed the user name, password, subject, and body all in one URL?
