Hi there, i just wondering, i already see on other Database System, you have the possibility to use short key, one i will always remember is the key F9 for doing a search, i think it's realy quick done a search with the keyboard if we compare to the mouse. Is it possible to do it in filemaker 7 ? Thanks all elkkis

Good Morning, I am new to this bulletin board and fairly new to FileMaker Pro. Here's my problem. I want to create a script to do the following: Read through my master database file looking for only open records. Then read through a diary file (which could contain many or no records). I want to list every master record that has 1) no diary records and 2) any master that has a diary record that does not have a date greater than today. I'm sure this is an easy question for most of you pros, but I am stumped. I've tried finding only the open records then looping through the related records without much luck. Can someone help? We have a simple products database. We do a lot of searches by product name. Here is an example. Name: Panasonic AYDVM83MQ If I do a search for " 83MQ " I get an error stating "No records match this request" This happens for all sorts of searches. It will find it if i search for "AYDVM83MQ" but no one is going to remember that much of the name. Is this a fault in the database? It seems that it should find it. Secretary gets checks. We want to enter into a multiline search as: Invoice# (space) CompanyName (space) Amount ..then cr then enter next check to search for Sometimes we know one, two or three things. This would allow her to enter all checks to search for In one whack instead of individually. Then display all found in a portal that she can select to apply payments. Is it possible to do a find for one word (for instance a name) over a number of different fields in a database? What is the syntax or process I want to use if I want to do a search on an SSN field that does not have the value of "Invalid SSN" I'm trying to do a duplicate search to find possible duplicate clients using the SSN field, but if there is no SSN entered, it will default to "Invalid SSN". I have a file that has an id field. This id field is a number that is unique as in a bar code. I need it to act as a look up to find a separate files contents when the record is pulled up for each file. As in the file has the ID field and it has several relation ships with each file. Ok, Now I am really lost. I have two tables that are imported from csv files. These tables are fairly straight-forward in that one hold a price for service,by service provider,location and region. I want to use table 1 as a search, for a specific service provider in specific state, in a specific region. This should display a price for those vendors in: 1. NY state 2. Depending on the category, I've got a layout to enter the details related to that category. I have a field with a possibilty of 5 numbers in that field (1,2,3,4 or 5) Now I am performing a find to pull certain groups of people. Now I have to find all the people in groups 1-4 and 2-5 and 1,2,4,5 and etc. I have pulled all the people in groups 1 thru 4 and 2-5 very easily - using the range feature: find 1...4 and find 2...5 and all but the 2s using 1...>2, but what formula would I use to eliminate the 3s and another search to elimite the 4s. I have a group of records that I imported. And I messed up. and it's too late to use the backup and do it again because I no longer have the file which contains the import records. I imported invoices from another program into our new FM invoicing system. Boss wanted to capture the data. They ended up being one field off partway through the map. Me bad. We're doing a petition drive and I've been handed the list of invalid signatures generated from a lookup against the voter reg list. The valid signatures matched the voter reg list exactly. Some signatures from the invalid list may be valid but have a different First name, Last name or Address and I am trying to find these. I'm doing a search in a db with 600.000 records, on multiple fields. This works, but is bit slow, because FM is searching the wrong/difficult fields first. (they are all indexed b.t.w.) Example: The db has the fields "place", "street", "number_from", "number_to". If I do a search on a specific place and street, I'll get about 5 records in a time I can't even blink with my eye's. If I do a search on the same place and street, but also on the number_from field (example: <7), I first get the messege "find in progress, processing field 'number_from'" (which takes about 10 secs), and then the found set. I really could use some help. I have a DB being served in FMP 6 that has Employee time cards where each card has a date Employee number, Employee department, start time, end time, total hours. I want to generate a report for a two week perior that lists each employee, their total regular hours for that two week period, their overtime hours for that two week period (Regular hours for a given week is <44 and overtime is >44 hours/week). Hello everybody, For a friend I made a simple and ugly database (I will make a nice interface later). My problem is that he needs to track the customers who have not paid the whole bill after 30 days. As you can see in my file in layout#1 and you push the red LP button you will get a list of the customers who didn't pay everything but even the customers who came yesterday. What also would be nice is a total of the bills who are not paid within the 30 days, the total of the Late Payments report. I need to have FM perform a scripted lookup in date order, because later records will be dependant on the lookup of earlier records occurring first. The lookuup is based on a self-join relationship. My question: will this be determined by selecting 'date' for sorting records in the relationship definition, or has that got nothing to do with it? I wrote a script to go to a specific screen to conduct a find. If no records are found FMP takes the user back to the original layout but not to the record the user started from. A blank screen appears. Is there anything I can put in the script to have the user returned to the record from where they started? The user cannot altered the fields on the screen that they are viewing so the find function is stored in a button that takes the user to a screen where they can access all of the fields to key in search criteria. I have two files, Schools and Students, joined by a one-to-many relationship on a field SchoolID. I am performing a Find on the students on some given criteria, and now I want to list all the schools with these found students. Go To Related Record seems close, except I need to show all schools that have any of the found students, not just the current school for a single student. One way I can think of is to have a global repeating field for found_school_ids in the Schools db, and then do a Find for any schools whose SchoolID is in that repeating field... I'm trying to write a script that will perform a find on the next entry in a value list. For example, if my layout has a field on it called "Name", and that field uses a value list called "Names", and the Name in the current record is "Joe", I want to launch a script that will perform a find on the value immediately following "Joe" in the value list. Sorry, new user! I have to create a weekly timesheet where people enter hours for multiple projects they've worked on as well as admin time, leave etc. I can't work out how to summarise it all. At the moment I'm entering the hours for each project as an individual record, and was planning to be able to enter an employee id no. and week beginning date and pull up all their projects and hours in a list, as well as their admin hours etc. But I can't seem to arrange it right on the page. I was recently given a database that needs fixing. It is a mailing list with only one field containing name and address. I want to break up the information into individual fields. Almost everyone in the mailing list lives in one of three towns. For example, I want to search for people who live in Montclair. I want to do a find operation on a related field that is not empty (in combination with 2 other requests). The field is a validated number field for max. 10 characters. When I fill in the "*" symbol or "@" symbol in find mode, it validates on that character, I get an error and I cannot perform the find operation. As a workaround, I check the omit box and fill in "=" (empty field). Is there another way? Because I have the impression that finding with 3 requests: 2 "Match" and 1 "Does not match" (Omit check box checked) is slower than 2 "Match" requests. Hi I would appreciate a solution to this problem please - I have a classical Music database already built in another program and wish to export it to FM 6. But I want to be able to find (preferably with a click on a button) all entries that are on a compilation CD. At the moment all my entries are by composer, so one CD may have 10 different composer records, but all by the same soloist/orchestra. Basically, I have 4 reports that are due 15, 30, 45, and 60 days _after_ date received. Here is my situation: I have a script that goes to a layout and enters find mode. I have set error capture on, and any result that is not "0" should cause a return to the original layout with a general error message. However, one of the fields is from a related database and is a numeric field and is set to not allow an empty field. In our PO data base we have over 4000 files that have all switched to the same PO number. Is there any way that a script could get corrupted so that it would change all of these files? Or is there anyway that someone could have done a search and then a global find change? Is a global find change even possible?? HELP! I have a simple, single-user database, tracking paperwork on students. One field is the date the paperwork was written and the other field is what type of paperwork it is. Hello All! I have a simple question. I'm working on a simple database to track defects. No more than 35 records. When i attempt to do a find I get the correct amount of records found but the record numbers are re-ordered. (if records 5,10 and 20 are the desired results, after the find they will be numbered as 1,2,3 the content is fine but the record numbers are off) How can i get the original static record numbers to appear after a find?

I'm working for a school right now, and I've made a "student contacts" database, it holds parent info, school representatives, district contacts, etc. It's related to a "student info" database. In the "contacts" db, I'm developing a sort of "control panel" for printing mailing labels. They want to do things like print the labels for anyone who is a guardian for a specific student. What I'd like to do.. is create Calculation fields that will show me the number of records holding the value 1, the number holding the value 2, the number holding the value 3 and so on. Basically, I want to push a button in my Contacts db that will then open the tickler database and show me the tasks that are due within the next seven days. It has been workin fine(retrievin all the right records)till i added a function which allows users to go back to the record page by clicking on the results. For example: 10 apples 20 bananas 30 pears etc.. I want to build a script to figure out how many bananas, pears, apples I have sold in the current month. My data base has more than 9,000 orders in it, and what I would like to do is get a display for how many times a customer has placed an order. The procedure set out in the FM Help is of no use (I assume because of the imports without re-doing the whole process each time. I have a script step to find duplicates using search "!" in the relevant field. One of the fields contains the year.If I search based on the year i get 1151 records and they are all displayed in a list view!! If I search on any other field i get what i expect. Having trouble setting up a find request on a related field in the child DB. Two DB's are involved, Customer Contacts and Valve Repair records. A CustID is the key field that relates the two DB's. One customer record can relate to many valve repair records. The related customer information is displayed, not copied in the valve repair DB. On some keyboards, users can select files numbers, in the index window, quickly from the "number keyboard" (the right hand side of the keyboard), some other must select the file number with the shift + number (top of the keyboard). I cannot explain on which criteria it depends (some keyboards are OK, other are not). I do not have this problem on Mac. Do you have the same problem ? When a User searches for a Customer and brings up the Customer Main record (from the Customer db) as the Customer is on the phone, it is determined who the Sales Rep is. I am scripting a Find process to find all customers whose maintenance expires next week, next month, etc. This part is easy and I have scripts that perform these queries and work. However, when there are no results for the Find, FM displays the 'Modify Find' message box and the user has to either click 'Modify Find' (Bad for me) or 'Continue'. How can I suppress this message so it doesn't display? For example, if it does not find any customers who expire this week, I want it to popup a message saying 'No Customers Expire...etc' and return the user to the previous screen. I only want to export , at a maximum, 2 duplicate entries in each case-but the duplicate entries change as you go down the list (I know, sounds wierd but the file explains it hopefully). They would like the attendance sent to a dedicated file where it can report and flag who has been missing for a while so they can contact them. I'm having trouble when searching for a date. In FILE A, I have a date field and I type in "12/12/2003". I push the button next to it and it activates a script in FILE B that searches for "12/12/2003" in the date field - however it keeps saying that no records match - even though there is! If I start in FILE B and search for 12/12/2003, then it works fine.... any ideas?

I need to find all instances of records with a common ID, which also have a Date that is more than 12 months apart. Finding records with common ID is easy with the duplicate (!) symbol in the ID field, but how do I limit this to only cases where the Date spread is over 12 months? Thanks for any suggestions.

I am getting to the end of a long process of writing a solution and have an annoying (but no doubt simple) bug that I just can't resolve. The problem is that when copying and pasting text (from and to my policy text field) between files, I keep getting an unwanted string of numbers that I believe represent the field contents from some time ago when I had the field formatted as a repeating field.
