One is a job database that contains all the processing details of each of the production runs we have. Each record in this database is called a Shop Order, and each has a SO# which is a serialized number auto-entered on creation.     I have a DB with shared data and four tabs below. Each Tab contains 8 Rows by 8 Columns of unique data. The information is used to calculate delivered costs for shipment to 8 different locations from one central point. Each Tab has a field that represents the base cost, without freight, for all the calculations and is placed outside the rows. My problem: 1.     I am trying to put lnks to various documents into container fields in a database. (with links instead of storing actual documents, I can then click to open the documents in whichever software they were created in - all of mine are either Excel or Word.). As long as I don't shut down FileMaker (8.5 Advanced), everythng works fine. [color:red]If I close out the file and come back later, the links are [color:red]GONE!!.....     Is there a way that I can set up a time field so that if I enter a time of 930 that FMP will automatically format it to 09:30. or 1337 would auto format to 13:37, etc, etc. I can easily do this in (dare I say it) Access using input masks (as I can with phone numbers...but I digress) but I have not found a way to automate this annoying little data entry task in FMP.     I have a check box value list of whether a record is a bar or restaurant. Each bar or restaurant runs in one or many issues of the magazine. I would like to take a tally of which issues a bar or restaurant has run. The issue number changes every Thursday. So, 01/04/2007 the issue number will be 96 and Joe's Restaurant will be listed in that issue and in issues 97 and 99 but not 98. After doing a search on some other fields I might end up with 10-50 records found. What I would like to do is to get the numbers. But only one even if it is found in more than one record.     I have a simple text field calculation: "myPCDocumentsPhotographs"& fieldname For some reason FMPro will not accept it and says "This text constant does not end in a quotation mark". If I remove the "" after the word "Photographs" then it accepts it but reduces the initial "" to just "". Can anyone explain this for me please?

    I'm trying to create a report that will display a group of monthly transactions, a subtotal by month (summary field), and an average of the monthly subtotals. I can easily get the monthly subtotals by creating a summary, but as most of you know, you cannot create a summary field based on another summary field. Using the Average function on the monthly subtotal field doesn't work; and I've tried the GetSummary function with no luck. I know I can create a new table and set up a calculation to display the monthly average there, but I'd like to show the transactions, subtotals and average in the same table. Any ideas?

    Hi, In a portal I have a numeric field where the user inserts a value ("Price per piece"), usually something like 1,30. In the Invoice it will turn out as 13,00 (not what I want!). If the value is inserted as 1.3 it turns out the way I want it to in the Invoice, ie 1,30. Obviously I want the user to be able to insert the value with a comma and not a dot.     Is there a way to make a radio button set behave like a checkbox (accept more than one item from the value list) by default, rather than the user having to remember to hold the shift key down? Context: If the user forgets to hold the shift key, or misses it, all existing options are replaced by the selection - oops - info lost! Just use a checkbox set then I hear you say.....but.. As I add a record on the report the summary field goes blank and does not display the new total until I click on or script into that field. How do I make the field redisplay the new value without forcing the user to take some kind of action? My thought is to have 2 fields in the line items table - QtySoldNew and QtySoldScuff. I want these fields to be mutually exclusive, that is, only one can have a quantity, not both.     I checked the 'unique value' under validation tab to prevent user from recreating duplicates, but i believe the error buttons (Revert, Yes, No) that appear when validationg fails are very unuser-friendly. Some of the users are limited to be unable to delete or edit records, only add. I can education them, but accord to murphy's law; "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong" Thus is there any calc that can be use to mimic this function?

I would like to be able to automatically calculate what it would be if someone had an ad that was 25 words. Help me out with what I have done or with something simplier...THANKS!     I'm guessing these two don't work together. The attachment is a screenshot of my relationship graph and field definition. I have no issues with getting the correct data from the L_placement_episode_pt_current TO, but the data I get from the L_placement_episode_pt_current_pv TO is random and not what I was looking for. A workaround is that I can have a CALC field in the the L_placement_episode_pt_current TO looking to the other TO, but that seems too FM6 for me. I'm using getnthrecord because the the L_placement_episode_pt_current TO is sorted and I want the second record in the found set. Any suggestions?

    Hello, I am building up database, which is based on list of employees. In every record (person), there are few (20?) of fiels with text and one container with photo. When i would like to add the photo (working on Macbook with iSight), I open up Photobooth, make photo, save the file to desktop, open it with Preview, crop it, and Copy and Paste to database.     Hello, I am trying to figure out how to total the numbers that show up in a portal. I have a file with land owner names and acreage they own and the location of their property. One landowner can own multiple properties and each property listing is a separate record. I have set up a portal that shows me each record with the acreage listed in each record, i.e. 1, 2.5, 3.     We currently have a database with thousands of records, each one with a container field containing a reference to a file on our OS X Panther Server. We'd like to be able to upgrade the server at some point and possibly change its name and IP address.     I am trying to write a validation script to test whether any records in a found set have been modified. I defined a timestamp field that auto enters the modified time/date for the record. I used a loop to test for notempty fields. The problem is that the script acting upon the record, modifies it, and therefore autoenters a value in the field defeating the entire process. Is there a workaround / technique out there I can use ?

  54. I've been trying to find out how to define a field that has an integer value that auto updates each time I create or delete a record. Each row below is a record in Filemaker for that field: 1 2 3 5 7 8 If I were to insert a record at 7, it would change the value of 7 to 8, and the value of 8 to 9 and automatically insert the value 7 at that record. If I were to delete record 7, record 8 would change its value to 7 in that field. How do I setup my field to have that characteristic?

I have 3 tabs each is a different company, what I would like to do is have a pull down box the is the Final selector if you will for the page. Once this has been made it freezes out or locks the other tabs so it does not switch back to them when you leave. Thank you Joseph

    It seems like this should be a simple calculation, but I haven't worked with FM for a while and have never done too much with calculations. What I need to do is define a Sales Tax field that says: If the Ship To State = MD, Sales Tax = Item Subtotal * .05. I can't seem to figure that out using the options in FM though. I am using FM8.   69. Hello, I have a csv file I receive daily that has orders in it. This file has multiple records or one record per unique order. Some orders are 1 item per order. Others are several items per order. Each item record has an orderid that can be sorted on. I need a report to print out one occurence of the customers details and all the items they ordered and then an order total by each orderid.     I have attached the file I am working on. I am looking to do a calculation for inventory purposes on yardage of fabric. There are two times we are entering in information and on the first time we enter data, we put the yardage ordered. The second time we enter data we put the yardage currently on the roll. I want a calculation that waits until I put the "starting quantity" to subtract the "yards" to get the calculated "balance remaining". I want to dynamically change the number of decimal places displayed based on the amount each item is priced at eg. $1.00 as two decimal places, $0.0755 as three decimal places, etc. I can use an "If" statement to test but I'm not sure how to do the formatting.     Is there a way to put leading zeros onto a number. Say I want a number to be 5 total digits and I need a decimal point. I don't want them to be able to press return many times as that would make the text box too big on the printing layout. Is there a way to control this? I also have another "slave" set up, which is perpetually accessing the application through an FM8 client, to perform a few non-IWP functions. This setup has been working fine, until lately.     I have 1200 people who have to do 4 tasks. I want to create a modification date for each of the tasks. I created 4 date fields with different names with the option of modification. Of course when I change one of the event scores all the dates change. I want to link the each date to one specific task. When I update the task for one person, I just want the date to change for the one task and the one person who retested the task not the entire group of 1200. For example, I do 15 push ups today.     How do you force a field to retain it's formatting? Example copy from word or a web page and paste into FM Pro V7,8 & Advanced and it retains the font from the source. Inventory transactions is a list of everything that has been ordered. Date, Quantity, Stock Amount and the Name of what was ordered. Inventory summary is where the problems are.     I am working on a solution for my school. In it, most fields have up to 20 repetitions. I have all the repetitions on the layout. However, I don't want the repetition (or the label for the field) to print if there is nothing in that specific repetition. Additionally, not all records have information entered in the same number of repetitions. For example, record 1 may have data entered in 5 repetitions while record 2 may have data entered in only 1 repetition.     I have attached a file that I am making (or trying to). I know what I want to do but haven't got my "missing manual" in the mail yet. I want to have three tabs that show fields that are specific to the order status. For example when I go to master list tab, there will be all fields. When I go to the current orders tab, it will show the first 20 fields from left to right, but not the four to the far right. In the shipped tab, there will be the first ten and only the last four.     In MS Access I can create a table of dates. I then join this to my bookings to give me a subform (portal) which dispalys free and booked dates. Using this method makes it very clear what dates are free and what dates are booked. Is there a way to do this in Filemaker?
