We have three computers hooked up to an internet based server. The host is in California. Our shop is in Seattle. One of the computers runs FM 10 Advanced. Two of the computers run FM 9, garden variety. Several times a day the program just shuts down. There is no apparent cause for the shut down. When this happens we get the attached error message. Any idea what is causing this or how to make it not happen so often? error.JPG.zip

I have a few databases hosted on FMS where I've changed the layouts after uploading the databases to the server. I'd like to be able to change the initial window size the client sees when the database is first opened, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it. I've tried closing the database in the server, then opening the unshared file in the client and resizing the window, but that doesn't seem to take effect when I reopen the file in FMS. Is there some other way to do this?

I have FMS 10 hosted on a powerpc G5 mac. I just uploaded a bunch of files from a converted solution. Some of the files show in the Open Remote dialog of FM10A, but many of the files do not show in the dialog. What are the possible reasons for this? Darren Burgess

I'm running FileMaker Server 10. I have about 4 FM Scripts which are triggered from the server at night. Most of them are fairly simple scripts with a find, few set fields, an IF statement or two, and a loop that works its way through a found set of records. It's not doing any imports or anything fancy. 3 of the scripts when run from FM Server show a "FileMaker Script Error" in the Status column. Hello! Running Server Adv 10 and connecting with FM Pro 10 clients. My boss would like the list of databases that shows up in the Open Remote screen neatly organized. If possible by folders. I know you can put files into subfolders, but even though those files are in subfolders that all show up at the root of the Open Remote screen. Any way to change this?

I know that this is a difficult question to answer, but I must ask anyway (sorry) I have set up, using advice from this forum, a successful FMP 9 adv server on a G4 800mhz, running OS X server 10.4.11. The server is dedicated to Filemaker. It is connected directly to the switch in our University networks centre. I write web surveys for this machine and they work a treat. The machine has been very stable. I keep a close eye on it and don't mess with it. We have ~70 users accessing a complex FM 9 solution hosted on a Windows XP box running FM Server 9 Advanced. Users access it either via workstations on the local network (mostly Mac, some Windows), or via our terminal server, which is hosted on a Windows Server 2003 box. My problem: our users employ a number of very specialized medical and psychological terms in their entries, and need a shared user dictionary. I have set up a user dictionary file in the users directory on our primary file server (OS X 10.4) as well as another file on the C drive of the terminal server. Hi, Yesterday I installed FMSA 10 (technet development license) and I seem to have forgotten the login and password to the admin console, so I guess I need to re-install ... I have a couple of dbs opened, and even thought they are just for testing, I wonder how can I properly close them before uninstalling FMSA. I see that there are a few fmserver processes running in the activity monitor, do I need to kill them before I go ahead and uninstall FMSA? Thanks in advance!

I installed FM Server 9 on an Intel Mac running OS X Tiger 10.4.11 fully updated to what's current. The Admin Console won't run. This is on a LAN at a university - hard-wired, not wireless. I am afraid I don't have experience with FM 9 server and am not sure how to get this to run so the databases can be set up. Thanks for any help you can provide. I have just tried to update FileMaker Server Advanced from 9 to 10. The program installed OK, but the server is now very sluggish. Examining Task Manager on the Server, it seems that one process - fmadminserver.exe - is hogging the CPU. running at 98-99%, only occasionally dropping momentarily to something less. Total memory usage is only about 20-30% of the 1.25gb total RAM. Opening the Server Admin Console shows some database files to have opened, while others are "opening". Unless I can get this process under control, I will have to get our IT guys to roll-back to the previous version. Any clues as to what might be happening and/or causing this?

Hi Everyone, I have just upgraded to FMS10ADV as the promise of being able to script imports is an ideal way of running batches overnight for me. Unfortunately as hard as I try I cannot for the life of me get FMS to export OR import from the scheduler. I have run the scripts from the same machine using a client and it works. What am I doing wrong? I have had two different errors with two different import and export scripts, 100 and 800 Any ideas?

I have FM Server 8 and I can see the 2 new databases I added and I opened them in FM server, however, when I try to access them through open remote they do not show up. I am new at administrating. I currently have fmp v8, but we are looking at using Filemaker on our small network at work. What version would we need to allow say 5 users to access and share files across the network? Does the PHP package FM 10 Server offers to install (5.2.6) have any of the popular extensions that come with other PHP packages? How does it compare to the one installed with OS X Server 10.5? I use FX.php so I don't need any of the FM-specific stuff for the API, but the OS X version is usually barebones, so I was hoping FM's installation might be better. I looked through the posts and didnt see anything that applied, but I may have missed something. Any help would be greatly appreciated! After completing the installation of FMS10, with a check mark next to "start deployment assistant" I get a screen in my browser that says "Please wait while server admin starts" and I can see the status bar cycling between "connecting to local host" and "done", I have waited hours, uninstalled,reinstalled and nothing. In order to upgrade to Server 10, I need to install a Server 2003 box. No problem until here. But, let me give you the scenario. Currently have web publishing and PHP on a separate server. Hi all, I recently did an upgrade deployment using a script to install Filemaker 10 Pro (client) to 190 workstations. On some of the workstations, there are no "local hosts" being found automatically by the system... I can manually add them via "favorite hosts" but that's it... Very odd. Anyone know why this happens? Second question. Is there a place where I can specify to the installation (ini file, registry, etc.) what the favorite hosts are? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for everyone's help on my other post. (I had databases that ran about 1/10 the speed they should on FM9 Server Advanced). Here's what I did to try to make this work again. a) I did the export/import thing, exporting my data to MER or FP7 I saved clones of the database c) I recovered those clones d) using the clones, I imported the data again e) I did NOT then save a compressed copy, as I read I should do somewhere, if this matters I also dropped down from FM Server 9 Advanced to 8 Normal, and things were great for a while. I am developing an application for a medical institution that will be used in several health centers across 3rd world countries. Each center will have their own server (2003), and there will be a main server located at the HQ of the institution. I was told by the IT manager of the institution that the connection between the health centers and the HQ may not always be active because of different reasons. I have enabled an FMPro file on FMServer. This FMPro file uses external files from a link to a 'Current Directory'. Where do I put in FMServer these external files? In FMP I had the file in the same folder as the FMP file working fine The 'Current Directory' in FMServer points to: fmnet:/10.211.55.2/ Putting the external file here, does not work? I have a need to upload data from one FileMaker Server to a second FileMaker Server. I now know that this can NOT be done within a FileMaker scripting using "From FP7" method or using the "Set Field" method. FileMaker has put some kind of limitation crippling these methods. Greetings. 1: I installed FMS9 on Windows XP and the very first time it ran perfectly, I was able to add files to the database and run em at the same time with another OS X. I ran the program again after a few hours and it would not load anymore, it would stay stuck on this address for hours: C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Admin/admin-server/launch-page/prelaunch_single_en.html The loading bar of the picture above runs as if it was loading but never loads. Hi there, The Filemaker solution I am responsible for is hosted on an FM server. Every now and then when I need to make bigger changes my company's IT divison gives ma a copy of the file, I change it and then they put it back on the server. Lately it happened several times, that when I open this copy on my machine, I get an error message saying "This file was not closed correctly, FileMaker is performing a consistency check". As I found out, the reason for this is that some clients were still logged on to the file on the server while the copy was being made. Hello, Hoping to get some feedback on a project we're working on. My company is currently building a Filemaker application for our own business use. We would like to eventually offer this program to other businesses, but would like to do it without having to sell Filemaker Licenses. Is it possible to create a Filemaker Application, host it using Filemaker Server Advanced, and then use a flex application downloaded by our customers to access the Filemaker Server database? Ok, I think I have worked out the ins and outs of moving data from one table to another on the same server. I used the SetField method and am happy. Next hurdle on my project is moving data from one FMServer to another FMServer. We have a WAN with multiple sub-nets. To avoid downtime, each sub-net has a "mini-server" that acts as a local server, caching records, and periodically sending the data upstream to our "main-server". Some may call this polling. Some call it replication. The solution I had was to use a looping script for each local (mini) record and SetField[] with the related (main) record for data exchange. Hello community, I'm wondering if FM server 8 works on Mac osx Leopard? The datasheet only indicated it requires 10.3 or 10.4, didn't say 10.5 Currently, I'm running FM server 8 on Mac osx Tiger, which runs on a xserve dual G5. So I have a database that's being shared by FM server 9 and it's worked for awhile now. All of a sudden the other computers in the office can't open it. When they go to Open Remote they see the host computer in the left hand box but not the database file in the right hand box when they click on the host. What's going on? I checked the server software and all systems were normal, but one thing seemed very strange to me under one section it said "Filemaker server permits 0 simultaneous Filemaker Pro connections." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm new to serving. I just recently started running Filemaker 10 Server on a dedicated Mac Pro with Mac OS 10.5.6. I stay logged out of the Mac Pro while filemaker server runs. I currently use the preset daily back up script to back up my solution locally. I'm curious as to some software and hardware options for backing up the whole drive on that Mac Pro to a second internal drive and an external drive for the sake of redundancy. What backup softwares would work in the background if I were not logged in? Could I just use the RAID feature built in to the Mac OS X and it will keep a copy of the drive? I am getting the following error message for only 1 file among 45: Filemaker cannot host a file because of a network error. Files marked as mult-user will not be available over the network. (10048). I think that there has been a problem with our network over the weekend and that a simple re-boot will resolve the problem. However, this will disrupt a lot users and may result in files becoming damaged if they don't re-open correctly, meaning long delays while they repair. Any suggesstions on resolving this without a re-boot. I have had a good read of many solutions to similiar problems, but they have not helped. Thanks

Hi, this is my second attempt to upload a file into FMP9 Server. My first attempt ended with a successful upload. But my new attempt results in a LONG 'checking file configuration' box, which I eventually close giving up, which results in a spinning blue ball, and then eventually 'one or more of your destination folders doesn't have room or doesn't exist' and that just makes no sense at all. I've tried uploading these files both from my desktop and from the db folder they are supposed to be in and it makes no difference. Hi There! I'm trying to write a Rumpus user file with filemaker server. What I've done is the following: - fill the records with needed info, if anything is added/changed it sets a "global check field". - filemaker server checks every minute if the field is set and if so run the a script. - the script then exports the user file. now first of all i'm wondering whether i'm on the right track, and if it is indeed not possible to trigger the server script from a client. and then secondly i need to move the users file to the rumpus folder. When I leave work at night, I like to take home a current backup, rather than the most recent 'on-the-hour' backup from the backup folder. I just discovered that I can make a zip file of a currently running (FMS hosted) file, without stopping the file with the admin console. That means I don't have to run the admin console, stop the file, make a copy, then restart it. Is this an ok thing to do or am I asking for trouble? Thanks, Phil (aka Lazy Bastard)

I have a client running Server 9 on Mac. They have set up a VPN for me so that I can give support remotely. I have Windows XP SP3 and am using FM 9 Advanced. I can open the remote file dialog. I can see the host name in the left panel. I can see the list of available files in the right panel. When I double click a file to open it, I get a coffee cup cursor for about a minute, and then FileMaker gives up and nothing happens. Is this a common cross-platform problem? I have no problem opening their files directly (from CD-ROM backups). Any ideas anyone?

I have FM9 Server running on Windows Server 2003. FileMaker is configured to run three automatic backups daily. Every night a Windows script copies the days backups from the default FileMaker backup folder to another folder. Worked fine for a few months. The when I reviewed the last few weeks backups I noticed that the files in each days folder were identical and that the files had a timestamp in the future (March 16) According to the Windows Application Event log, the first two of the daily backups ran and are recorded correctly in the log for February 16. Hello, Does anybody know of any issues with Filemaker Server 9 admin console and the latest Mac OSX Java update 3? Current configuration: I have a Macbook running OSX 10.5.6 that I did the latest Java update 3 on. I am trying to use the admin console to log into a remote iMac running OSX 10.5.6 and filemaker Server 9 advanced (with the filemaker 9.0.3.326 updater installed) but without the Java update 3 installed. Filmaker Pro 5.0 Windows XP sp2 The database has been in use for years. Sharing is set to TCP/IP. Firewall (default windows firewall) has been set to not block filemaker. Confimed that Port 5003 is not in use prior to launching Filemaker. Confirmed that filemaker attaches to port 5003 when launched. We can ping the host. No errors are reported when the database is opened. Dialog boxes confirm that the file is open in maulti-user mode and that we are the host. Yay, here's another one: OS X 10.4.11, FMS10A (nothing else) We're finding that it requires two restarts of our FMS10A box to get FMSA to auto-start. On the first reboot, it isn't running. On the second, it is. Anyone else seen this? So, I've done this with previous versions, but for some reason FMP 10 isn't doing what I want. I'm hoping somebody can point out what might work here. What I normally do for deployment of FMP Client: For Macs, I put the installer files in a new .dmg file with a modified "Assisted Install" file on my server. This works fine with FMP 10 Mac. Had my XServe crash (running FileMaker Pro Advanced Server 9v2). When I brought it back up, web publishing will no longer start. I tried updating to FPAS 9v3, but web publishing still won't start. The message on the FileMaker Server Overview in console is "An error was encountered communicating with the server". I do not have services split. All on 1 XServe. The PHP part is still working correctly, but I have a lot of XML/XSLT databases designed before PHP came to FileMaker, so I need to get these databases up and running. Any ideas?

Ok background, I had a FMSA10 on a Mac OS10 Server go down due to various reasons. Installed FMS on a temp backup server with the databases while the original server was being repaired, and had no problems. Ordered a new Mac server and installed FMS on it and immediately received a license conflict message and an abrupt shutdown of the databases on both systems. I'm not going to go into how wrong that system is. I installed FM Server 9 on an OS X Server. It was creating some very strange display errors that left the cursor unusable, so today I performed an official uninstall of FMA Server and reinstalled it. When I click on the Admin Console icon, I get "the database server is not available. to edit server deployment, please start the database server first." I have a mixed network of Macs & PCs connecting to FMS7 which is hosted on a Mac G4 running 10.3.5. Yesterday I erased the HD several times, did a complete OS reinstall and did not update it. I reinstalled FMS7 and updated it to 7.04. Yesterday when I left the office, FMS7 and Admin were both working perfectly. When I open Server Administrator on the Server and connect to FMS, I get a blank info screen for about 30 seconds and then an error message saying it couldn't connect. Greetings. I'm really new to FMP, so apologies if any of this is very basic information. I recently took over some of the technology department after our organization let someone go. Here is the problem I am having. I recently upgraded from FM Pro 8 to FM Pro Advanced 9. The software installed fine and everything appears to work fine except the sharing of the database so other users can access the software here at our office. The exact error message I am getting is "FileMaker cannot share files because another user is already sharing files using FileMaker Pro on this computer." We have a custom FM app running on FMSA9 on a Dell PowerEdge 1950 Win Server 2003. The network consists of point-to-point redundant T1's from ATT. The server sits 100 miles away on the same subnet, everything static. Im getting data corruption and weird behavior with status icons not showing up, reports not printing to PDF that did... Here's my setup. Filemaker 8 Server with a couple databases running on it, each one configured with two admin accounts. These admin accounts are set up to allow full access. Filemaker 8 Client. When I open FM client and use Open Remote to connect to one of the databases on the server, everything works normally, and it asks me for my username and password. I enter my admin u/p (which should give me full access), and it connects without a problem... but not with admin access. I can't create or modify records. Hello everyone. My organization is looking at Nagios as a system monitoring tool. Upon first glance, the tool looks very nice and comprehensive for our needs. I noted that it is even able to monitor specific services/processes on monitored servers. One thing I did not immediately find was its ability to monitor FM9SA. I set up an account and preliminary password and then selected the "User Must Change Password at Next Login" option. When I use this account's credentials to log in, however, it doesn't prompt me to change my password. Instead, it logs in and allows me to see the databases I have access to, but when I select a database it tells me that my password is expired. I would be grateful for any help this forum can offer. I am very new to FileMaker, I have a small FileMaker db with only 5 users. The file is on a shared directory on the network. If one user is using the db no one else can enter. If a second user tries to enter he/she get a message saying that the file is being used by another user and it is locked. The sharing option is selected in this database and I understand that the version that we have FileMakerPro9 can take up to 9 users working in the same time. can some one help? thanks

I have a FM db hosted by FMS v10/WinServer 2003. I am having difficulties getting linked images (i.e container fields that store only a file reference) to display correctly on client machines. The clients are running either FMv9 or v10. The image files (mostly .jpeg's) are stored in a shared folder that is located on a volume of the same Win2003 server that is running FMSv10. The shared folder is mounted on the desktop of each client machine. Users can open the shared folder at the desktop level and browse and edit the images with no problem. Hi. I need some advice regarding the purchase of FMS. I am currently using FM10 advanced to run a database that can be accessed online via IWP at my Hospital. I am a physician, not a developer. In FM Advanced I do use the developer tools. I am planning to expand access to the database, so I need to overcome the 5 user IWP limitation of FM Advanced. I am looking to upgrade to FMS, but I find the FM website quite confusing in terms of what the differences are. I am unsure what I get for the considerable price difference between FMS and FMSA. Hey, I have server 9 running and I am trying to go directly to a database uploaded via IWP Right now if i go to say http://127.0.0.1/fmi/iwp/cgi?-db=thisDataBase.fp7&-loadframes a log in screen comes up first. I am running FM Server 9 on OS X 10.4. I need to specify an additional database folder that is located on a mounted DMG. I get 'invalid path', which I assume has to do with the fact that it's on a DMG (the path is correct and permissions seem fine). Anyone have experience with this? Anyone know how to make FMS recognize a path that is on a DMG? Thanks!

We have been sharing a Filemaker Pro 9 database across our office network successfully for the last few years. Recently we are receiving the error message: “Filemaker cannot share files because another user is already sharing files using Filemaker Pro on this computer” This is appearing on all computers on the network when they try to access the database resulting in only one person at a time being able to access. Machines have been rebooted and Filemaker file sharing is active on all the machines (which are running windows XP). Any help would be appreciated.

For some reason I was thinking I could make a backup script for each day of the week: Monday backup Tuessaday backup etc. And thought there would be a file called 'mydatabase-monday backup', 'mydatabase-tuesday backup', etc. But I see each time FileMaker server 9 backs up the database, it just over-writes the old database. Should I just create a single 'daily' backup? Or is there a way to have Filemaker Server 9 make a backup of my database with a different name every time it backs up my database. Thanks!

Alright. Managed to get my FM6 files converted, cleaned and opening error free so I figured lets get the server running. After installing, I went through the config and tried to change the default folders as I already have a backup folder and I don't want the databases stored in the library. Everything I tried says it's an invalid folder so I checked the help and found: Owned by fmserver or in the fmsadmin group? When I tried to change the permissions for my backup folder to add that group, it will not add as it doesn't seem to exist anywhere. I have installed FMSA10 on Vista Ultimate, but the admin console won't start successfully. I have cleared the Java cache, have only Java u7 (not 11) running. After numerous reinstalls and restarts have had no luck. Has anyone had any success installing Server 10 Advanced on Vista Ultimate? The specs say Vista Business is the "minimum" requirement, so as Ultimate exceeds this it should work.

FM server 9 hosting files. on the host I also have FM9 advanced in case I have to do some tweeking. Problem is: after compacting a file using FM9Advanced (while FM9Server is quit) the file is accessable and modifiable in FM9 Advanced but when I switch to the FM9Server and access the file from a guest (which has it's own copy of FM9Adv with different license), I can't manipulate inside the relationship window and I can't edit records. Is there anyway that I can turn on Debug logging in FM Server 9 or 10 so that I can find out more about what's happening when an FM client is pulling out data? We have an FM CMS which is running slowly, and despite months of work, we have ended up doing the Filemaker debugging ourselves as the vendor doesnt appear to be interested. I apologize for this "beginner type" question. This is the first time I have used your forum. We are currently running 3-4 single licensed Filemaker Pro 7 software. Two of us usually need to share files at the same time over our network. I have tried to set up the file sharing settings so that this can happen and have been struggling. Hi chaps, We have just had setup a new CRM package based around Filemaker Pro 9. However, the entire system runs like a dog. I mean slow, really slow. A list of to-do items (coloured text) containing some 20 entries may take around 2 minutes to appear in full. Each entry showing after about 2 to 4 seconds. We get lots of "not responding" when waiting for different screen within the CRM app to load, which again can take minutes. I was trying to access from other machine and I removed and tried to bring again. And now its not uploading again... Its saying I do not have space in same folder. I am attempting to clone a DB using File | Save Copy As menu. The selection is grayed out, even though I am [Full Access] account. Do I have to have all other users off the system before it will enable? If I look at a backup copy with same permissions, the menu selection is available. Thanks.

I've got a client setting up FM Server 9 Advanced on a Mac OS X Server (10.5.6). There's a regular 280 GB internal drive and another, internal 550 GB RAID drive mounted as a regular volume. (It's formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).) I cannot get the FM Server Administration tool to recognize the path to the RAID as valid. I have confirmed that another directory on the main drive will resolve correctly, but cannot duplicate this with the RAID. This is not a remote drive, which I understand cannot work. Hello everyone. I came into the office today to find that i could not log into our database. I checked the computer that hosts it and opened the server admin. from there i found our database which has status of "Closed". From there I tried to open it and all the status says is "Checking" and then returns to being closed. Am i missing something really obvious here? Objective: Schedule to Print a PDF from records and send via SMTP Current Solution: With applescript, have local FMPA 10 launch and connect to FMSA 10 through use of a URL. The specific user is recognized during a start-up script and redirected to perform the above mentioned task and the close the file. This works perfect with Applescript. I have also tried saving the applescript as an application and then use the open command in terminal to launch the application. This also works perfect. I recently upgraded my Filemaker Server from 9 to 10. I followed the installation instructions and removed Filemaker 9 prior to installing 10. When I try to connect to the Admin Console from one of the clients (192.168.1.250:16000) I get the FMS 10 start page, however, when I click the link to the start the admin console it tries to open FMS 9 console and I get an error. I have a number of clients using databases, hosted out from a dedicated server machine. All our servers have fmserver backups on, creating hourly backups on the hour every hour. For some reason on a number of our sites backups have begun to fail (not all at the same time!). I know this can be due to corrupt files so this afternoon 1 particular client was unhosted, all the files were saved as compacted and rehosted (there should be no corruption anyway as I always follow best practice). I have a client who is on Server 8 I am signing in with VPN and using Server Admin 8. Clients are administering the computer from another computer on the LAN with Server Admin 8. They are all windows. My other client's are Mac. I need to point the manage to exact place to check. I do not have direct access to server but they do have an IT contract firm.
