I have some navigation buttons in a portal row which displays them if Get(Extended Privileges) = "AdminButtons" This is from The Missing Manual book. It worked for a while, then I'm not sure what happened. Today, I'm testing it and regardless of which account I'm logged in as, GetExPriv returns "AdminButtons" even when I'm logged in under an account that does not have that extended privilege assigned. I read a bit about calculations on Host vs Client, but this function is supposed to be one of the exceptions to that problem. Hey all, I have a layout with a bunch of unstored calculations on it, many of which reference other tables. All in all there are about 55 unstored, plus another 20 or so summary calculations. My question is: what can I do to improve the performance of this layout? I know that once the database goes live and record count increases, performance is going to take a hit when users visit this layout. One of the ideas I've had so far is to put check boxes in front of the 5 work types (Insul, Air Sealing, Windows, Doors, Misc) so that the user can turn on/turn off the rows which are not being used; if a job only consists of Insulation and Windows, then none of th…

Hello all, Trying to figure out the calculation to do the following: In my database, I have a Customer table and a ContactLineItems table. I use the ContactLineItems table to store phone number and type (Ie. Home, 555-123-0001). Additionally, I have a IsMain field that uses a checkbox: the user can mark a phone number as "Main". What I am trying to do is write a calculation that prevents a user from marking more than one number as "Main".... Any ideas?

I have been asked to help automate a personnel rota where a client has a number of permanent staff allocated to them and then to achieve the required presence additional relief staff may be allocated. Hi, I have a list of records that have duplicate information. My goal is to remove the duplicates, BUT stay with 1 Record from each of the duplicates. Kinda like feature in excel 2007 "remove duplicates" Is this possible?

I've got a calculation field set to a background color regardless of the results, which in this case is "Yes" or "nothing." I'd like for the field fill color to be different when the results is nothing. Is there a way to do this? If so, where can I find the RGB for the color I want if the results is nothing. When I say nothing, I mean it is filled with the current background but results is not displayed.

I have 22 repeating fields with 5 repeats each giving a total of 110 fields. Some fields are blank and some fields are populated with duplicate information. I would like only the data that is unique replicating in another field. Thought I had written a killer calculation that compared each field in turn but I reached a maximum of 30000 characters in my calculation field and that was that. Is there an easier way? Another newbie question, please. If Field x has data entered into it by the operator, y needs to have data entered also and vice versa. How can I put a warning dialog in so if the operator enters data in x but not y they get a warning before they can proceed?

I am trying to create a script that will essentially allow me to copy fields from layout A, hold onto those fields, then copy fields from layout B onto layout A, then paste the fields from layout A to layout B. I need to extract information about our program participants from years gone by, without including any more recent information. I can select a program year -- say 2004/05 (school year) and find all the partipants that year and earlier (each year for each participant is a separate record in the AY_activeYears table). By exporting the contact_ID and activeYear of the found records of active years that fall into my range to a temporary FM file, I can eliminate any more recent information. I've got the following calculation, but need to add to it in order to show "Yes" if a payment is less than the calculated Payment Amount and show nothing if the different is made up later or an over payment was made previously. i.e. Pledged 1200 to be paid monthly, made a 200 payment in Jan. but skipped Feb. and paid in Mar. In this scenario the account wouldn't be flagged Past Due. The way the calculation is now the pledge is past due simply because a payment wasn't made in Feb. So I'm trying to navigate between records to the appropriate layout. In my database I have different forms that students need to take and fill out. Which forms the students need to take is dependent on which classes they are in. So I have a Student table, a Enrollment table which relates which classes have which students and vice-versa, the Course table, and then the Forms Assignment table which only has two fields (course id and form name). I must be brain dead today. I am throwing together a simple inventory program. I need to track how many of each item I have on hand. In one table, I have the items. In another table, I have the stock in/stock out numbers. I am going item by item, if you give out 3 of an item, you stock out 3, if you order 20 more in, you stock in 20. On the Items layout, I have a portal of the Stock In/Stock Out activity. I am looking to put in a summary field that tells me how many of that item I have on hand. Hi, I have a text field that contains size and color data separated by a "-" dash. i.e. record (1) red - XL record (2): crystal blue - small record (3): black/light blue - large record (4): mediterranean blue/ speckled black (45) - extra small .. and so on I am looking to parse everything to the left and to the right of the "-" dash into two other fields (color) and (size). I am having trouble accounting for the variability of the location of the dash in building my calculation. Within this field, there is one and only one occurrence of the "-" dash. Hi all, I have the strangest issue. We're running FMSA 10.0.1.64 on 10.5.8 client, and any layout with sub summaries now will not print, even after sorting. The only change was the file was moved to a server running 10.6 with 10.0v2 for a couple days, and used (although a sub summary layout was not used). It's now back to the original server. When printing a layout with a SS after sorting, it prints blank! The system print preview also shows blank. However, Filemaker "Preview" shows the layout correctly. Is there any change to a file when opened with 10.0v2? A backup of the file before transferring to the alternative server works as expected. Thanks fo…

I think I know how to do this using loops, but I am wondering if there is perhaps a function to simplify this. Lets say I have a table, that has a "Item" Field,"Book key" Field, and "Cost" Field. The books are monthly catalogs, that have their own cost based on the item. The books are sequentially stored as a number. I have a random number generator which generates about 1000 numbers. But there are 13 numbers I need to make sure are not included. I have a Global number field with 13 repetitions in which each of the 13 numbers have been added. Is there a CF I can use to make sure the random number generated is not one of those?

Hey, The records of my MainTable have fields that store the "actual" data, and global fields. As global fields allow me to do a lot of nice things I've added more and more of them; so that one record now contains lots of them. I stored a few global fields in another table, and I wonder if this is a good thing to do with all my global fields, in order to have "cleaner" records in the MainTable. Only one record in the GlobalTable would be necessary. I know that global fields hold a different value for every user, but what happens if a user changes the value in a global field of the GlobalTable's record? I would like to know if there is an easy way to add text in a notes field to all of a found subset of records without replacing text that is already there. I've seen a few scripts here in the forum, but it's very confusing. I have a container field which acts as button to fill itself with a picture. When I click on it again it removes the picture like a toggle. When I click on it - it puts up the hidden lines ( boundries of the field) The only way the user can get rid of the lines is by actually clicking on the layout outside any fields. Hi, I have used the getsummary command to help with the calculation in a sub-summary. This works fine if there is only one field to sort by... but what if I am sorting by 3 different fields. I tried nesting multiple getsummary fields within each other with a different sort for each... didn't work... do I need to plug in the 3 different sort fields into a text field and then use that? Basically, is it possible to use the getsummary field with 3 different breakpoints.

I am working on making a database to keep track of time spent working on a project. I then wanted to add a field to make notes in of different things that I did. My problem is this. On the layout where I enter in my start and stop times, I want to be able to click a button and have a new window open up with a layout has a spot in there so I can enter in the tasks I did for that job. I have system formats turned on so that the date fields will be displayed correctly for my international clients. However, if I use a date field in a text calculation field, the format reverts to mm/dd/yyyy. Example: The Herd::DOB field for an animal in the database is 11/28/2008. This displays correctly in US format as 11/28/2008 and in European format as 28/11/2008. The dates are three letter months, space, two digit date, comma, space 4 digit year: Like This-> Oct 20, 2009 I tried reformatting with the Format Date but it gives me a question mark. Hi there. This question either has no answer or is so simple I will look foolish. I have client with a Filemaker 7 database who records artwork in container fields. The database is now around 2GB in size yet there are not that many records. Is there any way that I can determine the size of an image in a container field? I would have thought that the size if the displayed field may have had some bearing on it, but unsure. I want to be able to flag fields with images that need reduction so we can trim the database down a bit. Or... does FmPro not work like this with variable record sizes. Enlighten me please. Greg

I have a database for my cabinetshop that makes use of container fields with repetitions. Based upon the cabinet style you select the image will change on the record. Each cabinet has salient data that describes it. I would like to have these fields dynamically related to the container field. If, for example, the repetition calls graphic 1, I would like all three fields to show up. If the repetition contains graphic 2 I would like just the two fields to present themselves. Is there anyway I can get some sort of lookup from the searchTerms field that if it finds a value sets it in the searchCategory field. Is there a function that will automatically collect all the values in a particular field over a found set? The Send Mail script does this when you pick "Collect addresses across found set," but I can't figure out how to get the database to do it for my own purposes. I know I can loop through the records, but I'm looking for something quicker. Field index doesn't work because that doesn't limit the values to the found set.

I am using FM8.5v2 with mac 10.5.8 and can not make lookup work with related tables. I have followed the help info over and over again and nothing. As far as I can tell I have it setup correctly. I ahave asked this question in the past about getting a container movie uploaded to youtube either through filemaker or a plug in. I thought I would ask if it is possible using the web viewer in filemaker to upload a video residing in a container field to youtube . I would like to recommend this as a feature in the future of filemaker. Because a person with a lot of images and quicktimes could benefit wonderfully from filemaker being able upload to youtube , flickr etc, along with the tags and privacy preferences. I have about 20 bits of text (jotts in this case) per downloaded page. I've noted the page number in a number field next to each jott. Now what I need to do is get a count of how many jott's per page there are, so I can check that they've all been downloaded. But when I do either a count or running count of the Page field, I don't get how many records of each there are.

Hi all, I need to change the date,(or the reporting date), in a point of sale system to reflect a working day rather than an actual day. The system is in a restaurant and bar and as the bar may not close until after midnight on occasion, the invoices generated need to reflect that period. The date field however is an auto enter non modifiable field, as it should be. I can not think of an elegant way to bring these extra invoices in to the day's report. Can anyone point he way ?

I am a recently new user of Filemaker Pro version 9, although I have started to pick up on some of the nuances of the database that was set up before I began working for this company. I am trying to retrieve all payments received by a patron given a timeframe. There are fields that have been set up to find payments recieved from YTD, 2 years back, 3 years back, etc., however these are set up for fiscal years, not for a range that I specify. How would I go about setting up a field that would allow me to look at a variety of timeframes? As a side note, the company is using a preset layout design called eBase, if anyone is familiar with that.

I have had to move the images folder to a new drive and have now found that the link between filemaker and the images folder is broken. I'm looking for a not so complex way to track the history of 2 fields. The fields are 'Status' and a 'StatusDate'. Using a script trigger (on object modify) changing the Status field changes the StatusDate. I'd like to hear suggestions on how I might easily capture a history of changes to these fields. Our customer database has a field in it for the customer's email address. I would like to ensure that anything entered in this field is, in fact, a valid email address. First question. If I want to search the field for email addresses only (thus excluding invalid address), I've searched for *"@"*"."@@* Would this be the correct way of searching for email address, or is there a better/more effective way? I'm trying to create a field that autofills itself with the first five letters of a company name (once a company name is entered into the company name field), then sticks a unique 5 digit number on the end.
