  1. Hello all: I know this is a head banger but I know I'm missing something simple here. I have a layout for inputting ORDERS. On that layout I have a CustomerID field. I have the field set as a popup list using the Customer table - 1st field set to CustomerID and the 2nd field set to Customer Full name and I'm showing only the Customer Full Name. For some reason I only see 1 customer record in the popup. Any ideas? I should be seeing all my customer recs under that popup. I have the include all records radio button checked. Thanks. Dom

    I have a drop down list that is reading from a value list. For some reason, the drop down list cuts off text on the right (the drop down box is too small). Previous drop down lists I've created have always been big enough to read all the text in the drop down list. Does anyone know how to control the size of the drop down list box? Thanks, Patty

  3. I have a value list that is created via a table. The user needs a way to set the value back to nothing (null), after accidentally selecting a value from the dropdown list. How do I do this? I don't want to add a fake record to the table - and even then, the dropdown wouldn't be putting a null value back in that field... I can't allow them to type into that field (and therefore, be able to blank it).   4. I am trying to figure out how to allow the user to click on an uneditable textbox and automatically change focus to the dropdown box next to it, and display the list of items. Background on why I want to do this: I have a large value list that is created via a table. In order to easily scroll through the large list, I have the value list displayed using a dropdown box on the page layout. Hi I have a database of records (songs) that for which i need to add keywords that describe each song, e.g. "melancholy", "dark", "romantic", "driving", "ethereal" etc. Each keyword has a checkbox next to it. In order to avoid popups in Value Lists, yet display foreign key field rather than primary key, I figured out the drop down menu covered by a non-enterable edit field (thanks to a forum answer) in a simple 1-to-1 relationship. However, I can't make it work in a 3 table relationship where a Popup Menu works. An Employee table holds all employee names and logins (primary key).     Hi and Thanks for any help. I currently have a value list based on field contents, and I use that value list as a custom sort order in the sort records dialogue window. Lets say the values are January, February, Mar... thru to December. My records are then sorted in this order. Problem is I want to change this sort order regularly. I may want to sort by March, then July, then October, then January and so on. Currently I have to edit the value list every time to customize the sort order.     Hi I'm building my first database in FM Pro 9 and have the following problem: I have two tables. The first contains contact names and uses a drop down value list with hard coded options to determine the type of contact (client, supplier, staff etc). What I'd like to do is populate a drop down value list in a second, related table only with the contacts from the first table that are defined as suppliers.     I am using a checkbox list to select multiple items from a value list in one field. I then want to have an automatic calculation that applies different numerical values to the selected items and adds those numbers up to give a final score. It is used to calculate a person risk of complications from an operation. The more risk factors they have the higher the final score, but some risk factors have a greater weighting than others, hence the different values for each item. I want to get the line number of the location of word based upon the location of the cursor in the field.     Hi, I hope this question is in the right place. I am using Filemaker to create a database of unique identification numbers for individual study animals (turtles). We mark individuals by notching the shell in unique locations and assign numbers based on how many notches there are and their location. What I would like to do is create a series of checkboxes that appears on each record entry, and have each checkbox associated with a value.     I am working on a very simple database and this is my first time using checkboxes. I am am little confused on how exactly to get data from them, and the FileMaker Bible doesn't help too much. The database I created is to create a list for outdoor activities (I know, I'm a geek).     Hey, Just wondering how a guy is supposed to set up a MySQL table so that it can be indexed. The goal is to get FileMaker to be able to use the data to create a value list. Seemed like a pretty simple requirement before I embarked on this journey...     Hello, In a portal that lists attendees of a conference, each record has a value list that specifies whether the person will attend EventA, EventB, or Both. I've been trying to summarize this information in my layout with two fields - the first to count instances of "EventA, Both", and the second to count instances of "EventB, Both" - and can't for the life of me figure out what to do.   22. I have an Offices Value List wherein officeID is first field (do not display) and 2nd field is OfficeName. The OfficeID is a one to many relationship. In Forms, the related Office field stores the OfficeID, but I want the OfficeName to display. If I choose to display data from the Offices Value List as a Popup Menu, it displays the OfficeName correctly. I have a zippit script that performs a "Spotlight search option" that goes through a triggered script. The script only finds the "Name" field but I wanted it to find different fields too. I had a table called membership_types in fm which I duly moved to mysql with all it's data and then linked it in the fm database.     I have looked all over for a solution that should be fairly simple. I don't know if I am asking the wrong questions or not understanding the posts I've viewed. What is so hard about summarizing a simple two value value list? It is for specifying gender. The value list is "F" or "M". If you can't summarize a value list what is the point of a value list? I have spent hours and hours on this problem without success. I have tried extracting "F" to an intermediate field called "Female" and "M" to an intermediate field called "Male" but this no longer works and I don't know why. It worked in an earlier 8.5 version of the database. Shouldn't this be a simple operation?

  43. Hi, I am an FP ubernoob and trying to set up a stock management system for a warehouse with FP9 but am running into a bit of a nuissance regarding a pair of dropdowns. The drop downs contain a 'Product Name' field and a 'Product Code' field. What I am aiming to do is to choose a Product Name from the drop down, and the matching Product Code would automatically be selected and vice versa. This way, either field can be used and the other automatically is updated to match. Both drop downs using related valuelists based on a records in a 'Product Range' table. Gurgle.

Ok, let's say there are 5 sizes: S,M,L,XL, and XXL, also in a drop down field. If they select the first two I would like the maintenance term, maintenance beginning and maintenance end dates to 'grey' out if possible. The values in the dropdown are NAMES of projects from my table PROJECTS. In my projects table there is a value of Open or Closed when a project is complete. She does not want to click on a button to get to "add a new value" to the list, she simply wants to type something if it's not in the list and have the new entry automatically added to that value list. I haven't found any function like that. I told her I didn't think it was possible since you need to have a command to add something to a value list. Or...?? Is it possible?

  62. I am trying to search an inventory file. I've included a field for Jewelry Type ID. I am using an unrelated file which has an ID field and a name field. I've set the value list to draw its first field from "Jewelry ID" and the second field "Jewelry Name." Then I set it to only show the second field. It only shows the first record. The only way I can make it work is to use only the first field, "Jewelry ID." But that won't help the user, picking from "1,2,3,4,5,6, or 7." I can't figure it out.

    I want to be able to change a record to a next status. The record from the table [data] only stores the id field information to [status] on data.status_id = status.status_id. I need the radio buttons to display all entries (except one) where data.status_id <> status.status_id How can I do this? I assigned new selections to each record in my found set, but when I exported the data from that checkbox field, it had both the old custom values and new values for each record.     I don't know if I am explaining this correctly but this is what I want to do. I have a value list on a layout. The user can select a person's name from the value list. I have another layout with the person's name, address and phone number. I would like to put a button next to the field where they selected the name that would take them to the layout with the contact information. I can't seem to create a script that does that. I have created a drop down list of fields from one table, courses, that creates fields in another table, tutoring, but for some reason its only listing one of the courses from the other table no matter what I change the course id number to in the tutoring table. What I want it to do is change the course name in the course name field everytime I change the course id in the tutoring portal.
