Hello all: I know this is a head banger but I know I'm missing something simple here. I have a layout for inputting ORDERS. On that layout I have a CustomerID field. I have the field set as a popup list using the Customer table - 1st field set to CustomerID and the 2nd field set to Customer Full name and I'm showing only the Customer Full Name. For some reason I only see 1 customer record in the popup. Any ideas? I should be seeing all my customer recs under that popup. I have the include all records radio button checked. Thanks. Dom

I have a drop down list that is reading from a value list. For some reason, the drop down list cuts off text on the right (the drop down box is too small). Previous drop down lists I've created have always been big enough to read all the text in the drop down list. Does anyone know how to control the size of the drop down list box? Thanks, Patty

I have a value list that is created via a table. The user needs a way to set the value back to nothing (null), after accidentally selecting a value from the dropdown list. How do I do this? I don't want to add a fake record to the table - and even then, the dropdown wouldn't be putting a null value back in that field... I can't allow them to type into that field (and therefore, be able to blank it). I am trying to figure out how to allow the user to click on an uneditable textbox and automatically change focus to the dropdown box next to it, and display the list of items. Background on why I want to do this: I have a large value list that is created via a table. In order to easily scroll through the large list, I have the value list displayed using a dropdown box on the page layout. But, because dropdown lists can't display the second value after you select an item and it would only show the id number for the item selected, I have another uneditable text box next to the dropdown box to display the second, text value chosen from the dropdown box. I have a table named Purchases I have a table named PurchasePortal; it has only one field: Date, linked to the date field in Purchases It has a portal which I want to use to filter purchases as of...date or between dates When I enter a search criteria in the Date field I get an error message: "The value of this field must be a valid date in the range of years 1..4000 and should look like 12/25/2003" I guess the problem is that I am not in the "find" mode??? Hi I have a database of records (songs) that for which i need to add keywords that describe each song, e.g. "melancholy", "dark", "romantic", "driving", "ethereal" etc. Each keyword has a checkbox next to it. In order to avoid popups in Value Lists, yet display foreign key field rather than primary key, I figured out the drop down menu covered by a non-enterable edit field (thanks to a forum answer) in a simple 1-to-1 relationship. However, I can't make it work in a 3 table relationship where a Popup Menu works. An Employee table holds all employee names and logins (primary key). Attorney and Secretary tables hold fields unique to each. Both tables are linked to the Employee table by login. Hi and Thanks for any help. I currently have a value list based on field contents, and I use that value list as a custom sort order in the sort records dialogue window. Lets say the values are January, February, Mar... thru to December. My records are then sorted in this order. Problem is I want to change this sort order regularly. I may want to sort by March, then July, then October, then January and so on. Currently I have to edit the value list every time to customize the sort order. I would like to have "handles" on the value list entries so I can drag them up or down the value list, thereby changing the sort order. Is there any way to achieve this? Or is th…

Hi I'm building my first database in FM Pro 9 and have the following problem: I have two tables. The first contains contact names and uses a drop down value list with hard coded options to determine the type of contact (client, supplier, staff etc). What I'd like to do is populate a drop down value list in a second, related table only with the contacts from the first table that are defined as suppliers. I am using a checkbox list to select multiple items from a value list in one field. I then want to have an automatic calculation that applies different numerical values to the selected items and adds those numbers up to give a final score. It is used to calculate a person risk of complications from an operation. The more risk factors they have the higher the final score, but some risk factors have a greater weighting than others, hence the different values for each item. Should I use a checkbox list or individual fields for each item in the scoring system?? Thanks in advance David T

I have been trying to find an answer to this question? Up to this point I am stumped. I have a list of words in a global field. I want to get the line number of the location of word based upon the location of the cursor in the field. For example, if the list showed: carrot celery broccoli spinach and the user had their cursor next to the word broccoli the computer would return 3 for line number 3. Hi, I hope this question is in the right place. I am using Filemaker to create a database of unique identification numbers for individual study animals (turtles). We mark individuals by notching the shell in unique locations and assign numbers based on how many notches there are and their location. What I would like to do is create a series of checkboxes that appears on each record entry, and have each checkbox associated with a value. Once I check a box I want the individual ID field to add up the numbers to generate the unique ID code for that individual. I am working on a very simple database and this is my first time using checkboxes. I am am little confused on how exactly to get data from them, and the FileMaker Bible doesn't help too much. The database I created is to create a list for outdoor activities (I know, I'm a geek). It has 2 tables, one containing the activities and the items needed (ex, Swimming; bathing suits, sunscreen, etc); the other table has the checkboxes so you just check the items you are going to do and it will populate a list for you, so we don't forget anything. Hey, Just wondering how a guy is supposed to set up a MySQL table so that it can be indexed. The goal is to get FileMaker to be able to use the data to create a value list. Seemed like a pretty simple requirement before I embarked on this journey... Hello folks... I'm new here and have just started to go through this site... I have a solution I'm making for my own CPR biz right now. What I'm trying to do is this.. My course records table contains a course #. This course number is entered in a spot for each student we have. Also in the course table I have an option that states if everything has been completed with the course choose yes. Hello, In a portal that lists attendees of a conference, each record has a value list that specifies whether the person will attend EventA, EventB, or Both. I've been trying to summarize this information in my layout with two fields - the first to count instances of "EventA, Both", and the second to count instances of "EventB, Both" - and can't for the life of me figure out what to do. The end of the pay period is then calculated based on the start + 13. This works fine. Currently I have a drop-down list for day of the week. What I would like to have is a conditional drop-down list for date based on the day of the week for the pay period. Hi. I need a hand in setting up a relationship between zip codes and street names. We currently have the city field and state field data auto enter based on the zip. I'd like to be able to A) enter a zip code, then select a relevant street name from an editable dropdown list or : Enter zip, then start typing the street name and have autocomplete show me the relevant street names. I have an Offices Value List wherein officeID is first field (do not display) and 2nd field is OfficeName. The OfficeID is a one to many relationship. In Forms, the related Office field stores the OfficeID, but I want the OfficeName to display. If I choose to display data from the Offices Value List as a Popup Menu, it displays the OfficeName correctly. If, however, I display as a Dropdown List, it displays the OfficeID (1st field) instead of the OfficeName. I am using a calculation field that is (text) as follows: "Unavailable:¶" & ValueListItems(Get(FileName); "Count") I cannot get ANY value list to appear in this field - even with a simple calculation as follows: ValueListItems(Get(FileName); "Count") I have this exact same calculation in another File (and it works fine) but for some reason this does not work in this file. I have a zippit script that performs a "Spotlight search option" that goes through a triggered script. The script only finds the "Name" field but I wanted it to find different fields too. Hi All, We're in the process of migrating our fm tables to mysql, however we'll have to carry on using fm for a while and so we need to link the external tables back to fm. I had a table called membership_types in fm which I duly moved to mysql with all it's data and then linked it in the fm database. However one of my value lists used data from this membership_types table (when it was still in fm) and when I tried to do the same with the linked mysql membership_types table fm wouldn't let me (external tables are greyed out when trying to select a table for the value list). The user should be able to select a value for each of these settings from a value list displayed in a drop down. I have looked all over for a solution that should be fairly simple. I don't know if I am asking the wrong questions or not understanding the posts I've viewed. What is so hard about summarizing a simple two value value list? It is for specifying gender. The value list is "F" or "M". If you can't summarize a value list what is the point of a value list? I have spent hours and hours on this problem without success. I have tried extracting "F" to an intermediate field called "Female" and "M" to an intermediate field called "Male" but this no longer works and I don't know why. I am having trouble relating three drop-down boxes to each other correctly. There are three related tables: Item Categories (Category_ID) Item Makes (Make_ID, Category_ID) Item Models (Model_ID, Make_ID) The Item table has a field called Model_ID from which I can draw the name values for Model, Make, and Category based on their related fields, and concatenate them all together (example: CPU PC - Dell - Optiplex GX620). My client has a Search Button in various places throughout a database, but i'd like to make it so that if the database is in Browse Mode, then the button make FMP enter Find Mode..... but if FMP is already in Find Mode, then the same button actually performs the find. hello i need some help/assistance to retrieve values in a value list. i know i can use valuelistitems function to get all the values at once. but what i want to do is to get 1 item at a time [using a loop] n then add it to a filed in a table. then get the 2nd item and add it to another field in a 2nd table and so on. for now i have around 50 items in the list and want to get each item individually and then add it to approperiate field in a table. Hi, I am an FP ubernoob and trying to set up a stock management system for a warehouse with FP9 but am running into a bit of a nuissance regarding a pair of dropdowns. The drop downs contain a 'Product Name' field and a 'Product Code' field. What I am aiming to do is to choose a Product Name from the drop down, and the matching Product Code would automatically be selected and vice versa. This way, either field can be used and the other automatically is updated to match. Both drop downs using related valuelists based on a records in a 'Product Range' table. Gurgle.

New guy (still). I would like to create drop down fields for, say colors. There are 3 colors; red, white and blue which I presume I will store in a value list. Ok, let's say there are 5 sizes: S,M,L,XL, and XXL, also in a drop down field. Red only comes in M and XL, so when I select Red in the first drop down list (in browse mode), the only sizes I want to see in the Size field are the ones exclusive to Red (M and XL). I am working on creating an contract and inventory database. When I select under category I created a drop box showing new, upgrade or maintenance. If they select the first two I would like the maintenance term, maintenance beginning and maintenance end dates to 'grey' out if possible. Only if they select maintenance should those fields be adjustable. On a separate thing, is there a way to force entry into a field that shows purchase amount to have standard currency settings (in other words a dollar sign, a comma and a decimal point)?

I'm trying to setup a value list that uses values from a field, but when I click the "use values from field" checkbox and the "specify fields for value list" form appears, everything on it is disabled. Does anyone know what circumstances prevent you from setting up a field to use for a value list? How do I create what I call a related value list? An example would be: You have a "State" value list and a "City" related value list. When you choose a "State" you want the "City" choices to include only the cities for that state.

Hello, I have a drop down menu that lists way too many items right now and I want to limit those values listed based on another value in the table. The values in the dropdown are NAMES of projects from my table PROJECTS. In my projects table there is a value of Open or Closed when a project is complete. I have a client who wants to be able to type into a field that uses a pop-up value list. She does not want to click on a button to get to "add a new value" to the list, she simply wants to type something if it's not in the list and have the new entry automatically added to that value list. I am trying to search an inventory file. I've included a field for Jewelry Type ID. I am using an unrelated file which has an ID field and a name field. I've set the value list to draw its first field from "Jewelry ID" and the second field "Jewelry Name." Then I set it to only show the second field. It only shows the first record. The only way I can make it work is to use only the first field, "Jewelry ID." But that won't help the user, picking from "1,2,3,4,5,6, or 7." I can't figure it out.

I want to be able to change a record to a next status. The record from the table [data] only stores the id field information to [status] on data.status_id = status.status_id. I need the radio buttons to display all entries (except one) where data.status_id <> status.status_id How can I do this? Also I'm going to attach a script to this control, for on some status a mail needs to be sent too. This must be a temporary field for my records must be left read-only. So a sql statement script will do the actual updating.

Hi All, I have a project that I am working on and I guess I am a bit brain dead. I have a noequi join between the Consultant TO and ConsultantTime and I only want to show a drop down list of consultants with a particular customerTypeID. I think I have it but it still shows every customer type. Any ideas what I am doing wrong. The database is a Consultant Time and Billing solution. I have attached the database for review. I am stumped by this one and am wondering if any of you out there in cyberspace might have some suggestions. I have three databases and in the third I want a field to show a popup menu listing values from a value list in database 1 and all the values from a value list in database 2. Hello. I am working on a research project which tracks ethnicities of our subjects among many other things. The database that I was given to work with has a separate field for each ethnicity and is displayed as a checkbox. For example, in one record, "African American" has its own checkbox, "Filipino" has its own checkbox, "Hawaiian" has its own checkbox, etc. I am trying to create a report where I can summarize each subjects' ethnicity in one textbox. I changed a value list to contain different custom values. I replaced some values and deleted others. The field that uses the value list is formatted as a checkbox field. I assigned new selections to each record in my found set, but when I exported the data from that checkbox field, it had both the old custom values and new values for each record. How can I change a custom value list for a checkbox field and replace old values with new ones without completely deleting the field and recreating it?

I have currently built a small database that in the layout consists of fields with drop down menus created with value lists. When i input information into the records and fields, i'd like to navigate using my tab button. I have successfully setup the tab button to move from field to field in the order i need; but i can't use the arrows. I'd like to tab into a field, then use the Down Arrow to move down through the list so i can hit the Tab Button again to move out of it and leave the value in the field. I have a large company with multiple programs so if someone in Health logs in under health I want only the health related divisions to show in the division drop down list, same with other departments... I am trying to have a Value List be auto-generated based on data entered in another field. This is my problem: I am making an Employee database for which each employee has a job title which is selected from a Value List (for example Account Manager). I also have a Contacts (or Companies) database and an Account Manager is assigned to each of those Contacts. Hello I am having trouble trying to get a value list to sort a list of names from a calculated field. In short, I have a value list that looks up a list of names in a seperate table. The field the value list consults is a calculation that creates a full name from adjacent christian and surname fields. I don't know if I am explaining this correctly but this is what I want to do. I have a value list on a layout. The user can select a person's name from the value list. I have another layout with the person's name, address and phone number. I would like to put a button next to the field where they selected the name that would take them to the layout with the contact information. I can't seem to create a script that does that. The button just goes to the contact layout showing the first record, not the record of the name I selected. How can I do that? thx.

I have created a drop down list of fields from one table, courses, that creates fields in another table, tutoring, but for some reason its only listing one of the courses from the other table no matter what I change the course id number to in the tutoring table. What I want it to do is change the course name in the course name field everytime I change the course id in the tutoring portal. The course name in the tutoring table is a calculation. course_name in tutoring = Courses::course_name. I have included a screenshot of the layout.

In my database , I have a value list (viewed as checkboxes) and a field that holds the username that selected a value in that value list . I am setting up value lists together with pop up menus. The value list is taken from two fields (code number & description), with the second field being displayed in the pop up menu. The first value list I set up works as it should. The description is displayed and the code number is stored behind the scenes. BUT, every value list I've set up since does not work. Hello, I am not sure how to word this question so let me try to describe what I have and what I want to do. I have a field in my database that has 2 values in a value list. They are "Verified" and "Not Verified" What I woudl like to do, when in table view is to be able to have that when "Verified" is the selected value for that field, the field background will be yellow.
