Please can we have back the Postscript functionality in Windows we used to have Most of my corporate clients insist on me following their style guidelines. These include OFT fonts with PS info in them. Only they don't show on Windows. Used to in v7. You took it away. Please will you give it back.

I think this is relatively simple. The ability of enabling or disabling a field should have been there for at least 9 versions. Same thing for hiding or unhiding a field. I really don't get the point of why these feature are missing. These simple features would just ease the work when developing a project in which user's rights are important.

In a Multicore world it is time for FileMaker to take the next step in the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit and take advantage of innovated technology like OpenCL to boosts overall performances. Pro 11 is a great opportunity for FileMaker to follow the entire computing industry. If you agree with me, please share my wish with others and FileMaker Thanks.

My wishes are fairly simple. 1) Preview issues resolved (ever notice that what is rendered on the screen is NOT exactly what is printed? Add about a page of text in a single block, add a graphic to the layout somewhere midway down the page or more, when it prints it will not be aligned where you think it should be, this problen increases if you use zoom to align 'better') 2) Printing Issues resolved(many print drivers will cause the client to crash on windows when the client tries to print, the more recent versions of filemaker or worse than older ones) 3) Screen rendering issues (worse in more recent versions, screen flicker, objects not refreshing,... Think of how easy and smart it would be to incorporate features in filemaker that would allow it to become a slideshow viewer. Simply changing from one layout to another with TRANSITIONS and background music. People would be able to use filemaker in a new and novel way. They would be able to make a slideshow anyway they wanted. Simply add the ability to transition objects and layouts one to another. Voila an instant solution. Music that is timed though a slideshow.

I hope next version of FM have the "Change Printer" function as in Productive Computings Plug-In. Just copy the printers name to a field. If you change printer you dont need to change within the scripts, just change the field. In one register you have all your printers for different uses: Printer 1: HP 4050 Printer 2: Dymo LBELWRITER Printer 3: Canon MP800R In the register you should print from you have following script steps: PCCP_ChangePrinter( Printers::Printer 2 ) Print PCCP_ChangePrinter( Printers::Printer 1 ) -Per

In Layout mode give us the option to directly access a field calculation by holding a command key down while double clicking the field. There are a lot of times when I am curious about what the underlying formula is or I would like to change the underlying formula. At that time I already have a project in mind. I should not have to spend stupid time navigating to the field that needs to be researched or changed.

I have a simple one. In each window title bar, please include the layout name. If there are multiple windows open with multiple layouts, they are only identified by the filename; filename-2; filename-3 etc. It should show: filename-main; filename-list; filename-contacts form, etc. That would really help as we work with multiple layouts. thanks

I don't 'get' why FM doesn't allow an "Import related tables" check box when importing a table? As it is, you have to write a script to goto each table in the database and then import it... Since FM knows which tables are related it should be pretty easy. Yes?

Hi all! To facilitate my own work and not having to go through the menu bar, the status area or the impossible-to-remember shortcuts, I would like to create a developer interface for my database system. It's pretty straightforward: I would like to create 1 single layout from which I would like to be able to go to a certain script, layout or whatever other developer tool through e.g. value lists of said scriptnames/layout names/... As FM is a database system program, I am assuming that there are "hidden" tables somewhere keeping track of all this design-related information. Why are we not able to access these? Best regards, Isabelle

DataDirect have a new sequelink driver 6.0, (released in April 2008) which includes the "LCCS" connection string attribute needed to send data into FM text fields. This attribute is specific to Filemaker. But the version that ships with Filemaker is version 5.5, which is 4 years old, and does not have the LCCS attribute. Why does Filemaker not ship with the latest Sequelink Driver, or even better, why does filemaker not have its own ODBC Driver?? Should I really have to BUY the latest ODBC driver from DataDirect, instead of it being shipped with Filemaker?? This is related to my post here : http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/210372

We search ESS tables all the time - many from difference sources (SQL Server, Oracle or MySQL). But one particular external ESS source just threw us for a loop! We were searching this ESS table (SQL Server) for the word [color:blue]transfer and it produced no results but we found out that [color:blue]TRANSFER existed in the field. Oh dear, how many other critical searches have failed for us on this table? Storage Options in FileMaker says ‘English.’ In talking to the SQL DB Admin for this table, I was told “it uses Latin1_General_Binary - Where Upper C is not the same as lower c, so filter must be extract.” SURPRISE!! It is probable that others using FM and…

... and then add a true TableNames function that returns a list of table names in the database -- not a list of relationship names as v10 currently does. Also.. the TableIDs function needs to be renamed 'RelationshipIDs' and a new 'TableIDs' function added that returns a true list of Table ID's. It is hard to believe that FM made this fundamental mistake and that they have not corrected it yet.

Why-o-why can't we yet specify the Import source and destination tables based upon a calculation/variable? I realise that mapping the fields would be a daunting task, so how about just 'Matching Field Names' or 'Last Order' as the options to choose from? Then, also give us the ability to do the reverse i.e. export our data with the same controls. Field mapping could be achieved with the FieldNames ( fileName ; layoutName ) and TableNames ( fileName ) functions to get an array of the field names and types for both destination and source tables. But this would be a laborious task to setup in some cases, but not all. A script could be written in such a way to use t…

Oh, thank you so much, FileMaker!! I wish you would tell us when you fix something which people have been complaining about for YEARS AND YEARS!! What did they fix? When you create a button, the text has always set a bit too low from perfect center. But if you create the button in vs. 10 (at least on Windows and 10.0v2), it now centers perfectly!! If you then open the same file back in vs. 9, it drops off center again. KUDOS!! :yourock:

It surprises me that there is no Bento import script. This really should be an option. I find it very user unfriendly for Stand Alone Runtime application. When we open the Add Field dialog to insert a field onto a layout, it bothers me that I can't select multiple fields. So, if I have 'include field label' and I manually select one after another, it stacks the fields and I have to manually pull them apart or manipulate them, not to mention that it simply takes longer than multiple-field selection (holding down shift). I've found that, if I want to place several fields with labels, I create a new layout and select all the fields I want on it (which THEN allows multiple selection). Once all the fields are on the layout, I copy/past them back onto the original layout. Please FileMaker, allow multiple field selecti…

It looks like a new version of Filemaker will be released very soon. Just like every other version, this one too is bound to have some new and exciting features. I'd like to take this opportunity to make an appeal to FileMaker, Inc. We have had plenty of new and exciting features in the past. What we really need is for you to improve these existing features, so that we can use them to their full potential. I have put together a few examples of what I mean: • Relationship Graph (v.7) This was truly a revolutionary feature. However, as a visual tool it is hopelessly inadequate. It desperately needs improvements (such as orthogonal lines and multiple pages/l…

I wish FileMaker would automagically color the text in the calculation editor, the way my text editor (TextWrangler) does my HTML - and the way this forum apparently does to the code snippets people post. Even better would be automatic coloring and indentation of nested functions, along the lines of what my e-mail program does with replies and forwarded mail. This would have to be controllable through a preference pane, of course - I've seen the give-and-take over the ways users like to format their scripts, etc. - but it would sure make life easier for people like me, who only look at code when we have to (and when we have the leisure to make time for it!).

Am I the only one that is irritated when I format a number field as boolean and want the results to display as Yes or No ... but, because there is NO value, I cannot get the No to display? Boolean - true boolean - should produce NO whether the number is 0 or BLANK and that is how boolean always works ... except in this instance. I assume it can't evaluate because the field is empty so is treated as null but that is pretty weak defense, in my opinion. When we specify a result (whether no or anything else), then FileMaker should default enter that value even if the field produces null. I am still hoping that the boolean option will allow more characters as well.…

I usually use Set Field[] within finds. But sometimes, if I know all my requests are static, I would like to enter them into a find request. In a more complex series of requests, the order of the items can make a big difference in the results because the find request is NOT like a calculation (which short-circuits). It acts more like conditional formatting and keeps evaluating. If there are many items in the find request and I want to add an item to the top, I cannot. All new requests only add to the end. As it is, if I later want to add a step above, I have to delete all the existing steps, add the new one, and re-add them all again. Please, FileMaker, make …

Filemaker should be able to trigger Thunderbird emails directly. Right now it supports Apple Mail, Eudora, or Entourage. One can trigger emails by opening a URL with mailto syntax, but this is an unpleasant workaround in many situations. Many Eudora users have moved to Thunderbird or will, so it makes sense to provide this support.

If I am working on a found set of sorted records and evoke the Show All Records command, the records always revert to unsorted. But if I am viewing ALL records (and they are sorted) and I Show All Records, they remain sorted. I understand why the found set can't sort when all records are included but I find this inconsistent behavior, ie, why doesn't it change to semi-sorted then? I think that, any time a Show All Records is initiated, the record set should unsort. At least that's my current stance although I am open to being convinced otherwise. Even a checkbox within the Show All Records script-step which allows (when checked) to Unsort or Remain Sorted would…

It would sure be helpful to be able to view auto-enter calculations like we can currently view calculations (in field definitions). We can't even copy/paste the calculation into comments because, if we use a hard return, it simply won't include any text after it. Even a straight calculation removes a hard return and displays the calculation perfectly on one line. What ... FM doesn't think an auto-enter calculation might be just as important to view as a regular calculation? I hope FM helps us out here some time in the future. LaRetta

How nice would being able for conditionally format layout parts be? Or non-text non-field objects? I kludge by making a single space text box, but that's not satisfying for several reasons. Like, locking it doesn't prevent accidental text entry and it has to be just the right size otherwise Resize window doesn't work correctly or you see the edge. If we can format text boxes, I don't see why we can't format layout parts and other layout objects.

Currently if one sets a field to be non-empty, the trap will spring even if the user is not on the layout with the field, when the user submits the record. I think this is bad, and I have to write a conditional validation to check for the current layout. It would be better to spring the trap only if the user is on the layout with the field, or at least have the option.

1. Add == to list of operators to join tables. The equijoin operator, =, is really >=. Example: consider two chemistry tables joined (with =)by the element_compound field. The first table has records in the order HF (Hydrogen Fluoride), Hf (Hafnium), and H (Hydrogen). The second table has records in the order H, Hf, HF. If I do a lookup from H in the second table to the first table, the record chosen is HF, not H! Having == available would fix this problem. 2. I thought I was clever but obviously not. I had a timestamp field which is set by script when an email is successfully sent. I wanted to display a simple "Yes" in the portal ( with header called Sent OK? ) but I didn't want a new field. So I placed this timestamp field on the layout and formatted the NUMBER as boolean "yes" if a number and blank if not. It SAYS that number is one of the options on timestamp! It doesn't work and I think that is a great shame! If we could take advantage of the boolean logic for timestamps, times and dates then it would be a great help particularly if FileMaker expanded the number of characters we could enter. LaRetta

Oh please, FileMaker, I've tried to learn a new habit ... but it burns me almost daily when it continues to run a script which I'm debugging when I chose the windows X and close debugger. A small thing sure but it is not expected behavior ... Insert > Current Date inserts a text date onto the layout. You cannot select it and format that date (September 1, 2007 for example) like you can any other date INCLUDING Insert > Date. If Insert > Date lets you format it then Insert > Current Date should also; at least in my opinion. I don't think I've ever used Insert > Current Date before and probably won't much in the future but it should be consistent in its behavior and it isn't.

Well, I'm fussing again. But providing the User (us) with a dialog message we can read when using FileMaker is important! I would like to be able to find and GTRR all unique occurrences within a table. If there are multiple records based on a criteria it would only show the first instance. Currently, this can be achieved by a looping script that omits records but that's a CPU intensive way of doing things. When working within a more complex script which contains many If[]s within If[]s, it is difficult for me to see which step and End If lines up with which If[] because they are only indented by two spaces. When scripts are longer, the original If[]s won't show on the screen at same time and working in these types of scripts is very frustrating. If FileMaker could show an ident line (you know the thing, like in word processors where a faint line will show almost as a column down the page) then it would be easy to know how deep within the If[]s one is working. With Else If[], Else, End If ... scripts would be easier, I think. Even colorizing the levels would help.

I like using timestamps. I'm pleased that FM gave them to us. I like that I can use timestamp and then take whatever pieces of it I need. But it irritates me that I need to create a calculation just to DISPLAY the date only from a timestamp. Oh sure, I can change field size to small enough that only date shows but that is kludge. It would be nice if we had, at the layout level, ability to specify NONE on the time just as we can fine-tune the date and not specify day etc (or not show the date at all in timestamp). Unless I'm missing something, the time comes along with timestamp no matter what I do. A simple NONE in the 'Format As' would be great! :wink2:

I wish filemaker would create a tool that would rebuild all indexes within a file. Currently, to rebuild them you would need to either manually turn indexing off on every indexed field and then turn them all back on (completely inpractial on larger files) or recover the file (after which the file should not be used). I have seen so many problems over the years that can be traced back to an indexing problem that I feel that this would be one of the most powerfull maintainence tools that could be given to us.

I would love to utilize multiple monitor FMP developing on my windows machine, instead of being forced to work inside of the program window... The sad thing is that they appear to already have the ability/know how. Whatever they do so that the 'Object Info' box can be anywhere (including outside of the program window) I would love for them to do on everything else (especially script windows).

Many of my solutions can have 50-100 layouts. The constant scrolling in the layout dripdown menu can be painful. Please can we have groups/folders to hold multiple layouts? Thanking FM in anticipation.

MS Excel has had wonderful charting capabilities for over 10 years. I would like to be able to do charting natively in Filemaker without having to rely on plug-ins to make this happen.

FileMaker Advanced should allow step-throughs of calculation fields and custom functions. Currently this is available only for scripts. My functions can be quite complex, and it's a pain to debug them manually. Here's an example (and I'm not going to explain the symbols because that's not the point) Let ( [cp_atTX = Specific_Heat ( TX_K; T0_K; T1_K; T2_K; T3_K; T4_K; cp_atT1; cp_atT2; cp_atT3; cp_atT4; n_max_vibration; T1_endpoint_K; T2_endpoint_K; T3_endpoint_K; T4_endpoint_K; nt; cp_i ) ] ; Case ( TX_K ≤ Round(T0_K ; 2) ; .248362 * Erf(.707105 * TX_K - .707105 * T0_K) + .248362 * Erf(.707105 * T0_K) ; TX_K < Roun…

OK, every program out there has a tool that allows you to rotate an object. How hard would it be to put in a tool that allows you to rotate any field, shape, button, you name it, in FileMaker. FileMaker is way behind on this one. Even Microsoft Word allows you to rotate objects.

I wish there were an option in FMP's 'Sort' feature that would alphabetize a text field in the standard library manner that omits "A, An and "The" -- and perhaps allow the user to add other initial words to ignore. This would seem to be a fairly common need! Wickerman

wouldn't it be nice if the calculation dialog had on-the fly syntax checking and hilighting, code completion, and syntax coloring for functions, table and field names. etc. Like in IDEs and text editors such as text mate, komodo....

I would like to know if it possible to display a live web site in a field. One field may have the address, and the other larger one can load the page. Is this already available with FMP8?

I wish to have a way to dynamically resize object on the layout base on field value (similar to charting) but for different purposes. Exp.1 two fields, one has value 5, other 9. I need third object to start at 5" from the edge, and ends up 9" from the edge of the active window. By changing the values in those two fields, I need the third to change dynamically. Exp.2 one field, value inside 4. I need the object to be 4" long. You change the value to 2, than the object should resize to 2". Than I would like to see in FM10.

I and my coworkers often need "ad hoc" summaries. In Geographic Information System (GIS)database tables, you simply select some records, right click the column header, and choose "Summarize." A dialog appears where you check Sum, Average, Maximum, Minimum, or whatever; you choose a place to save; and click OK. Voila, a new, saved table opens, which you can read, print, or copy/paste from. Our Access guru gets the same result in a few seconds of mad mouse clicks (not sure what he actually does). Panorama's implementation is even slicker. But in FileMaker, I have to create new Summary fields! (One day I will get it right on the first try, maybe--probably not.) The resu…

This is so important. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to Zero in on an aspect of any web page. The stocks the youtube video. the logo etc. I would like to see scriptable increments in a script step to set the exact location of the webviewer. Just like windows in script steps . this is somewhat the same only it is the amount of "Scroll" set in increments to set the webviewer window to exactly crop a specific area of a web page. SO IMPORTANT and so easy for Filemaker to implement. Thanks Dave

I miss this whenever I save a clone and need to import the data from a populated db: I would like an "Import All Data" option so I don't need to go table by table selecting the "import matching fields" option ... that is, an "Import all matching fields from all matching tables" so I can have a clone populated with just one click ... does it make sense?

i would like to be able to export a complete file as a website self contained. Thats a hot idea no fanfare just simple and be able to upload the entire thing to a hosting service and be done. Why have dreamweaver and all the other things. Let filemaker work become worth the effort.

I know, I know, I am kicking a dead dog, but it really would be nice to be able to have a developed desktop app have the easy ability to be updated/modified without losing any data. So if I distribute my app to a customer, and make additions and deletions to the finished app, the customer will not lose any data. Maybe a file for the data to reside in while the rest of the app can be modified. Just an idea....

Would be very helpful if IWP supported file uploads, either to a container field or as a link. Currently I am doing it via PHP programs accessed via the web viewer, but this is clumsy when a database is passed from one developer to another, or from developer to server host.

It would be nice to have a column in Define DB to show which layouts each field is associated with. I submit this one to you, which is a work in progress, and you can see why. As is customary, the customer tells us what they want, and shows us what they are currently using. We tell them our FMP database is stronger, better and faster, and set about proving it. (This customer actually did a very good job of letting us know what they wanted.) Anyway, a few weeks/revisions later, we're still working on improvements and have a ton of fields and 60 pounds of layouts. We can probably dispose of about 10% of the fields and layouts at this time, as the layouts were ma…

I've been looking for a way to create and send email form letters. Each time I've looked at an example or plug in, it's not really what I'm looking for. Is there something like this already available? I haven't had any success creating an email myself. I've created the layout I want, but there seems no way to get the "send mail" function to use the layout as an email. It would be terrific if FileMaker could easily create email form letters the same way it can create printable form letters. If anyone knows how to do this with 8.5, I'd really appreciate a tutorial on how to accomplish it. Or I'd be interested in a quote for how much it would cost to develope somet…

One thing that would be nice, even if it's too complex for words, is to allow portals within portals. Additionally, or in this case alternatively, it would be nice to be able to set up a preference to print X-many records per sheet of paper. As with so many other things, you may know a workaround for these things that I'm not familiar with. I'm open to suggestions! This is my first post, but I expect to be seeing more of you guys & gals. :
