Hi All, I am having trouble with email thru IWP. I am using open url script with a calculation to add mailto: & the email address field. When I use IWP it either is blocked by safari, if I disable pop ups it then opens a black webpage and opens up 2 emails. I want to get it to open one email only. I am using server 9 advanced and 9 advanced to design. Are there plugins to email from?

It does not appear that I can easily incorporate items from a related portal into an email. Is there a roundabout way to doing this? I tried creating an email body field that is a calculation but I cannot find a function that pulls in the portal records. Any help???

dear community after two days of trying to figure out the question below i am writing with the hope of more information that the one i found online. i have filemaker pro 9 and business productivity kit that i get for free. the questionS are: 1/. i ahve added my record to the database. total of more than 4000 names 2/. i am tryign to email them and using the send email solution does not work with my windows mail (i am using vista ultimate) because after the first 80 or so emails the windows mail stops getting the rest of the emails. Hi Guys, Has anyone encountered problems sending bulk email from the cc field from FileMaker 8.5 OR 9 to Outlook 2007.I cant seem to send out a ;arge mailshot, however I can send out single messages. Anyone know of a workaround….i believe this used to work in Outlook 2003. Thanks Jalz

Our registrations staff have their own mail accounts and also access to a second account called [email protected]. I want the Send Mail function to send from this second account so that any replies go back to this account's inbox. Filemaker itself doesnt seem to give a choice with the From account but is ther another way to make this happen?

For those of you who are not intimidated by the prospect of adding HTML tags to your FileMaker databases, here's a technique for generating HTML-formatted email in Microsoft Outlook that works with versions of FMP at least as far back as 3.0. Actually, it's really not that complicated. You apply the HTML tags in a SetField script step that sets the body or message of the email, using a global field. Up to now we have been using Apple Mail to send out mail shots to our customers. But the list is 5000+ strong and it seems that Mail and Address Book are not up to it. I'm running Filemaker 8.5 on a Windows 2003 Server. I've installed MS Outlook 2003 and configured an email account using a Exchange account. I've also configured a POP gmail account using Outlook Express 6. I am unable to get either of these mail clients to launch when I run the "Send Mail" script. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have set up a subscriber form which is accessed by externally using a web browser. Everything has been working fine up until recently when there have been subscriptions taking place without the corresponding subscriber welcome notices and admin notifications being delivered. Greetings I have recently added a little function to our order system whereby our stock controller can send an email to a sales consultant alerting them that their stock has arrived. The email contains the PO number, date arrived, client name, product description and quantity. The problem is that there can be more than one item on an order but when the email is sent, only the first item is included in the email. . . (obviously the fields for product, desciption etc are housed in a DB)... Does anyone know how I can get around this so that all items received can be included in the email sent? Does anyone know exactly where Filemaker calls the default mail program from. We have a inhouse programmed tool bar we use in outlook. When I do a new mesage or forward a messgae I get the inhouse added tool bar. When we send mail from filemaker with the send mail script I do not get the in house added tool bar. Only thing I can think filemaker is programmed in background to call by a command line script that is over riding our in house tool bar add. Mike

Hi there-- I have a communication log database that I'm working on. I have a variety of help needs... 1. How do I get the "send mail" command to take the e-mail addresses that I have in my field called "to" which has 5 repetitions? 2. I want to place files in the FMPro8 container field and have those files e-mailed with the send e-mail command. One of my XP users is unable to use the email features of my application. No other users are experiencing any 'send mail' problems. The application is an FM7 bound solution I have had her re-install the software and the problem continues. It is repeatable and apparently occurs everytime the 'send mail' script is used. She is using Outlook as her email client. Apparently, Outlook is working fine as a standalone. The message she gets is '.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Hi all, I was sending the same email to all records in the found set and it worked fine (Mac OSX - Entourage & Win XP to Outlook). Then I realised that I needed to BCC so that clients couldn't see each other's email addresses. It continued to work fine on Mac-Entourage, but the Windows-Outlook process doesn't work at all and shows no warnings or error messages. HMMM Phil

I've been having problems using Send Mail with Thunderbird on WinXP with FM Adv. 8.0v3. All carriage returns are stripped. If I use the GetasCSS() function, the email goes out properly formatted. However, Outlook, Mac Mail, Eudora all show the html codes, so this is not my answer. Does anyone know of a preference in Thunderbird or issues with TB that could fix this carriage return problem?

Just read thru many posts here that explain that emails created using Send Mail do not retain any formatting. However, I wasn't sure if the poster was using FM8 and the answers reflected the latest available tools. My emails are generated using a calc text field, and have lost all carriage returns and text formatting. I really don't care about the formatting. It's the loss of carriage returns that results in a big runon email. I'm hoping someone has solved this without a plugin. I've used email plugins and have been happy with them. But this is a commercial product that will be shipped as a runtime (therefore PDF is out) and we'd rather avoid bundling plug-ins.

(Windows) Was getting the "A program is trying to automatically send e-mail on your behalf" message when trying to send email without a dialog on a script going through a 1000 records with dynamically created/attached PDF attachments. I found a free utility that can turn this off (for all programs), but is nice that you can toggle this on/off very easily. It's called ExpressClickYes located here (Context Magic) ... but there's a pro version that allows you to allow emails just from FileMaker, etc.

Guess this has been covered before but what I'm trying to do is do a search in a FM8 DB and then send a mass email. We send out a newsletter and need to send it in one email using BCC so the email addresses are not on display for all to read and keep our clients private. This I have got to work but I think it's a bad idea to send say 50-150 (depends on the search) email addresses using just one email in case it gets classed as spam. I have a button that runs a script to send an email with a pdf attachment. Email script works except it will not attach the pdf. Hoping someone might have noticed this problem. I have a system that uses addresses to generate a URL that I want to include in my emails for directional purposes. The links use two address that are passed to Google or Yahoo to create a link for the directions from point A to B. Currently I use Outlook 2003 because I like the archiving abilities in that program. When the URL is inserted through "Send Mail", the URL is complete, but when sent the URL gets cut off. I can send emails, but I can't seem to grasp how to pull data from a field in each record and place it in the message body with some text. The only way I can get a Field Name to appear in the message body is if I use: ${microcar-database}::First Name this is what shows up when I select that field from the dropdown menu. Hi, Is it possible to automate the Save / Send as PDF function (the one that you have to manually select via the file menu) via a script and without a dialog? So that; 1) Current record is saved as a pdf in pre-specified location 2) That file is then attached to an email. 3) And the To, Subject and Body fields are populated with data from fields in the database. Hi This is my scenario. I have a Project that has MANY tasks. Each Task is then assigned to MANY users. So on my Project layout, I have two portals that display the tasks as well as the users assigned to the task. I would like to send the users an e-mail with the tasks and users list for that particular Project. Is there a way to do this in the boby of the message? That is the addresses will be filled in manually but the body of the message will have the Project Name, Tasks and User Names. Also if I create a PDF file, will it show the portal records also. Hi, I'm using Filemaker 8 and used the Send email feature to send multiple emails with Outlook Express as the default email application; I could attach a html file which was sent fine, the html page automaticaly displayed in the receivers emails... I am now using Outlook 2003 and when following the same procedure, the html is sent as an attachment, and not displayed on the page. Using the "text from file" doesn't work at all, File Maker not being able to send the html code. Any idea anyone to send a html email via Filemaker 8, using Outlook 2003?: Many thanks!

I have a container field that holds an MS Word document; other fields hold the email address, etc. I want to send that document in the container field as an attachment using my Entourage email client. I know I can export the contents of the container field to my desktop, but then I have to stop and attach that file to the email that now resides in the Drafts folder of Entourage. Not good when sending lots of emails... In other words, the email is created correctly with no problems. I just can't figure out how to append the attachment automatically. I've been using FileMaker to generate emails for some time but have always assumed that there was no way to preserve any character-level formatting (i.e. italics). Is this the case? I quickly tried the getAsCSS() function but the resulting email was filled with code rather than properly formatted. Whatever I use, it needs to be pretty much lowest-common-denominator; I don't want my emails to be filled with gibberish just because someone has turned off "use HTML" in Eudora.

Hey everyone! This is my second post here. I have a script that sends an email and keeps count in a related record of number of emails sent per week. It does not work however, because regardless of whether the sendmail step is cancelled or not (as in the user closes the outlook browser without hitting send)the script continues and updates the value. It seems that get last error = 1 (cancelled action) does not work. Is this simply because the sendmail action is DONE by OUTLOOK and not FM? Or is there a way to know if the user didn't actually send. As it is right, now I just have a custom dialog that confirms the user sent the email. Not the greatest sce…

When I send email to all members, I want it to use the home email if available, then if there is no home email, use the work email. Here is what I have. I have been struggling with this issue for months and need some help. The "send mail" feature is inconsistent. Sometimes it works and many times it doesn't. When it doesn't work, I check the outbox and sent mail folders in Outlook and don't see anything. This has been a huge inconvenience because our company needs to send periodic e-mail blasts to contractors about new jobs. Does anyone have experience with this issue and any possible solutions? Hi, I have a send mail problem: I had a script to get the email address (from main table/email field) Main::Email Address with Name. When I click the button to start the email client (Outlook 2000) it takes forever (about 5 seconds) before I can start typing in the email message area, and then the letters I typed come in very sloooooooooooowly. I thought it may be the script, so I stripped it down to nothing but the send mail script step and it still acts the same. I'm overhauling an old FM DB which uses a hideous script to generate an weekly status email. There's some generic text, plus some field data from each record in the found (project) set, and each of those includes some data from each related (task) set. So, 'Projects' contains Project A (with 'Tasks' 1, 2, 3), Project B (with 'Tasks' 4, 5, 6), Project C (with 'Tasks' 7, 8, 9). I can think of multiple ways to do this, but I'm curious if there's a particular approach that most straightforward and popular?

If the email recipient is web-based (Yahoo, AOL, etc..) the email comes through showing things such as quotations as numbers and some HTML code. If the email is received by a local email application, everything appears fine. What I have tried so far: I have set Entourage to generate plain text only emails. I have tried altering the character set that Entourage is using. I have synchronized the font between FM and Entourage to Arial. Any ideas?

I have a script to take an e-mail address from my FMP6 DB and send an e-mail. However having used the standard FMP6 script for this it sends the mail straight to my out folder if I tick the script step "perform without dialog". And to the draft folder if I do not tick it. I realise I know very little about FM. I am trying without success to develop an email function. I have a field that calculates the days "overdue" following a "due date" that is entered for something to happen. The field looks at today's date and shows a negative number if there is still time to go and a positive number if it is overdue. I want the program to email me when there is, say, 10 days remaining before the due date if the action has not been completed. I understand how to save a copy of the record in PDF and then to tell it to email that record, but how do I initiate it? I'm trying to run a script that sends emails using FileMaker 5.5. Outlook 2003 has a security feature that holds up every email for a few seconds so you can confirm that an unauthorized program is not using your computer to spam, virus etc. It's not so bad, but I have a lot of emails to send. FileMaker's gone weak at the knees and I was wondering if anyone knew of an application that could do the job? (She's running a mac with OSX). Hello all, I was wondering how do I drop down to the Unix command line from Filemaker? Since I would like to send out email without having an email client configured on the server and would like to see emails fired off without the need for a users intervention (hitting the send button on the mail message). My senior admin could help me use Postfix or mail to send emails when a button on IWP is pushed by the user. Any advice or suggestions? The company I work with sends out 25,000 emails a month to prospects and 500 emails a month to those who have inquired about our products. Those who respond to the emails click a link which sends them to our website where they fill in information regarding their practice and the product samples they would like. At this point, we use an outside vendor to send out our emails. (I do the find in FileMaker and export the email addresses to excel). I am using Filemaker pro 8.5 and I am trying to write a script where I can add 2 or more files to a email. At the moment, I can export the data for each layout to separate PDF's and then I ask filemaker to create a email and attached the PDF's. I'm trying to make a database that can print invoices as PDF's and send them via email... the Print script step seems to do what i want if i use a loop and perform w/out dialog, specifying "Mail PDF" as the print options. this generates seperate emails, each with it's own invoice attached. the only problem is that it doesn't give any options for setting the email address based on a field!! I tried using automator and added the "extract field data" step before the new mail step, but it puts the email address in the body of the text instead of the TO field, and i cant figure out anyway to change that. anyone have any ideas???

Hello, I cannot send email witn Send Mail Script on some computers using Lotus Notes and FM 8. when I click on script works fine in my machine and on others do not. Just downloaded FM 8.5 and I was hoping that I could use it in conjunction with my AOL 9.0 Security Edition email...but I'm having problems. I understand that FM recommends Outlook and so forth, but surely someone has figured a way to make it work with AOL. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

After years happily using FM 4, I've finally moved to FM8.5, largely because it offered the ability to easily generate emails direct from the DB. The help file suggests that 'generated emails are sent using your default email application'. When I try to make it all happen, there is a subdued 'ping', but nothing appears to be passed to Netscape Mail, my default application. And no email is sent. I'd be grateful for insight into how to make the handshaking happen. Thanks, Peter Mayer

The BPK also doesn't seem that easy to customise or integrate with my existing FM datbase. I’ve seen some good individual solutions for faxing and emailing and Mail merge. But has anyone seen one that does all three? I don’t need something that is industrial strength, just something that will let me send some emails, faxes and letters on occasion. Do you guys know of anything like this? I've created an email page within an application but I don't like how it creates a text-only email witin Outlook. First off, text only doesn't look very professional. Secondly, it doesn't keep any of the formatting I had in FM. Any ideas how to send html or rich-text emails through FM with Outlook?

I'm using FM Pro5 in Windows XP. Pretty simple sales database with about 12 fields. I collect each sales email address and would like to know how to upload those emails in this text field to an email program for the purpose of sending out a newsletter to them. This is somehow the other way round as most of the emails that refer to this topic... So in our current FM7 solution clients copy text from emails and paste it to a database file by pushing one button. The script pastes the text into a field with NoStyles. This works fine but sometimes (e.g. if someone receives an email sent with Entourage and Html style off) all the paragraphs will get cut up and show up totally different then in the email. Is there a way to get rid of this and format all texts in the same way when pasting email text into a field? How can I move a contact FROM Outlook 2003 TO FM8.5A without purchasing another product? Right now I'm just copying and pasting, but surely there must be a better way. So I was trying to write a really simple script that would send an e-mail to everybody in the found set (find performed manually). And it works, as long as the number of found records is low (maxed out at 126 on one comp, 88 on another.) Otherwise it seems to just skip the Send Mail script step (No dialog pop-up and nothing in Outlook). It does continue with the script though. Any ideas on what's causing this, and the possibility of a solution? Thanks

Hello, I'm not sure if i am posting this to the right place so apologies now. I have a CRM database in FM that i am trying to extract all the e-mail addresses from we have 10 fields defined "name" "E-mail" "Name2" "E-mail2" "Name3" "E-Mail3" etc up to five i have cteated a layout that shows only name and e-mail which i then export to excel to use in our e-campaign software. the problem is it creates diffrent columes in excel for each field when i only want 2 coloumes name and e-mail. Currently, I have a script that uses the Send Email function. Some of my users have a signature defined in Outlook, but when they use the Send Email script to pull a list of addresses, the Outlook email windows that opens does not contain their signature. How can we have Outlook include their signature using this script?

I've run into a problem trying to "neutralize" text fields before handing them to the e-mail client via Send Mail. The following method works for most fields I've tested with: Paste [select; Main::Message] Set Field [Main::Message; TextFormatRemove (Main::Message)] Send Mail [To: $Address ; Message: Main::Message] HOWEVER, some messages that are placed in the outgoing message block have sections of text either with textcolor=white or with some undefined font. I have a layout displaying a portal of customer names and their e-mail addresses. I added a Send Mail button to the portal definition (beside the address field) and configured it to Send One Email To: Table::EmailAddress. It worked fine. Press the button beside the customer's address and my e-mail client would pop up showing the correct address from that portal row, ready for me to type in text to send. Does any one have experience with Apple Mail & file maker? i have set my database to send a message when the date meets certain conditions set out by some data. My only problem is that the send mail script creates a new message but doesnt send the message. maybe I should be asking this to an apple forum or is there another program that would be more useful? Hello Forum members, Using the "Send Mail" script to open (Mac) Mail grays out the option to add a hyperlink in the Mail application. You can go around it by saving as a draft and reopening email - but my users don't appreciate it. Has anyone else run into this? Any help? Thanks Joanie

I am a new user and I am sure there is a simple solution. I have a large database of volunteers that I want to personlize emails to so I select the SEND MAIL feature...I specify a field name in the message (Tech Contact::First Name). If I don't put any other text in the box it correctly inserts the first name corresponding to the appropriate email...however I don't know how to insert any other text. When I insert something after that it asks for an OPERATOR and if I insert for example "Hello....then the field name" it puts just that in the email "Hello TECH CONTACT::FIRST NAME" This could be the easiest thing ever but I can't figure it out and it is honking me off....…

The FMPro 8 sales literature talks about easily fromatting emails with merge files from data in the FMPro dB. I cannot find any documentation explaining this. I would like to create a message and have FMPro place data in each email for that specific record (as in a Word merge) Does anyone know how to do this....easily! Thanks Toadster

I have a layout with color in the body section. In layout mode this color only goes over to the page width, then it is gray. The problem is new to FMPro. When I try to move a field or object to the gray area it won't allow me to. Likewise I can find no way to expand the area so that it will accept these changes. What gives? Toadster

Hi, Has anyone had any problems with inconsistency of email sends, using the Send Mail Script Step. I've built a simple feature that sends a text file to about 3 people (including the sender as confirmation). It sends the file most times, but some times it won't. Initially, I discovered that if there was any unqualified email adress in the list of recipients(ie without the @ & .com etc), then the email would not send at all. But, now that I've eliminated that, I still have occasions where it doesn;t send. Any ideas? Dave

Hello everyone, I am generating an email to include a numeric field. I would like the field to appear to 2 decimal places in the email eg 234.56. The field is a calc field rounded to 2 decimal but if it calcs to 1 decimal place then that is all I get eg 234.5 I know how to add the 0 if I need it. The thing I cannot work out is how to determine IF I need to add the 0. In other words how does one determine that there is only one decimal place in a number? TIA Phil

As far as I can tell the [Outlook] e-mails that FP7 generates using the FM e-mail script are always in (non-convertible) plain text. Is there any way to have the e-mails come out as HTML? Hi all, Hope somebody can help... I'm trying to attach multiple PDFs in a send mail script. I'm defining two variables (one for each PDF) that store the path to each file respectivly. I then insert the variables into the attachment dialogue screen as so: $$PDF_Path1 $$PDF_Path2 When the script runs it is only picking up the first file. What am I doing wrong? Regards Gab

I've been using FileMaker for quite a while, but have not done much emailing with it. I am trying to send a newsletter in pdf format. I created the newsletter in another program and saved as a pdf, then put it in a container field to send. It sends it out ok, but in the email it comes as an attachment that needs to be opened. How can I get it to send so it will be open in the email, much like the newsletter I recently received from FileMaker? I appreciate any help with this. Todd

Been trolling the forums and can't find any references to this. I'd like to be able to create a PDF of a found set of records and then place the PDF into a container field in another table. I'm running into I/O latency issues and am struggling with a way to do this transparent to the user. I've tried set field but I get text. Using import file I get the import dialog because the file is not completed writing and FM cannot locate it. Any suggestions on how to make this happen? tia Shawn

I am new to FMP and am trying to send myself a test email via File>Send Mail. It appears to send it okay (I don't get any error messages), but I never receive the message. Do I need to specify my email account information somewhere first so that I can send email messages via FMP?

I would like to attach files to mails automatically. Now, it is only possible to do it manually with the script step 'Send mail' in which you can select a certain file. But I would like to do it based on a container of the record I want to mail. Even better, based on a file path of that record.

Hi Guys, Ive got a client who is using Mac OS 10.4.x and is also using a FileMaker database I created a while ago in version 6. Everything in the database seems to work as it should apart from the emailing feature, which is the basic Send Mail command in scriptmaker. This command just doesn't seem to get executed - my client is using the Enterouge which I presume makes it a little more difficult? Anyone advise me whether emailing is a problem in FM6 & 10.6 or is it a case of selecting the right default emailing client (something Im not sure of doing in 10.4) Any advice would be much appreciated!
