I have a record with several portals, is there a way to prevent editing of all the portal rows, if a field in the record is set to locked?

I have a page that contains 3 portals. "Process" Filtered by "StatusIP="Process" "Hold" Filtered by "StatusIP="Hold" "Finalized" Filtered by "StatusIP="Finalized" Each record has a field "TotalQuote" I want to get a total of "TotalQuote" for all records in each portal. Can't seem to get to work, tried using "Summary field". Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I have a portal with many rows which is used to navigate a list of contacts. The user may scroll up and down the list but when they click on a record, obviously the portal gets refreshed as it goes to the related record. I am attempting to effectively make the selecting of items and scrolling to be more natural, and by natural I mean more consistent with my OS environment behavior (which is Mac.) Ideally I would like the user to click on a record but as it goes to its related record, the position of this sidebar portal which stay in the same location after the refresh. Any thoughts or ideas? Hi everyone, Let me explain my situation. I have table PRODUCTS where I have simple edit box where I'm collecting feedbacks from client until client likes a product. Every feedback starts with header informations like date, feedback from, product name etc. I made a script which creates for me header+feedback text and joins it with older feedbacks and finaly put all this in editbox named feedback history. Hello, I have a problem with my first layout using a portal. The relationship between the two tables has checked the option for allow adding new records on the portal side table. If a click on the portal I can create a single record but then I can't create new records. So my portal doesn't allow more records after I created the first one... Somebody can help here? I have a portal that I use to display tasks that have been assigned to specific associates. Currently I filter them so that if the task status is "Complete" it gets removed from the portal list. This works fine. Tasks::tStatus ≠ "Completed" I also added a field to the tasks table, "parentProjectStatus" in hopes that I could filter out tasks that belong to projects that may have been cancelled or put on hold. The field is set to be equal to Projects:Status. Tasks::tStatus ≠ "Completed" and Tasks:arentProjectStatus = "Current" The problem is that the filtering doesn't always work. Not sure if this is the right place. If not please point me in the right direction, I'm new here. I'm creating a database to record details of sessions with a client. After each session, I record several different types of notes & other information stored in one session record. I also store 'notes for next time'. What I am trying to to do is get these 'notes for next time' to appear in a layout when I create a new session record. I just can't figure out how to do it. I would be grateful for any suggestions. Hello, I have a sidebar portal that has a list of 300+ contacts. I am attempting to create a script that will navigate to the previous and next record in the portal (which may or may not be filtered.) I don't always have the current row number of the record being viewed. So my question is... how can I get the portal row number of a particular record when no portal is currently active? Do I have to loop from the first record to the last until it matches? Is there an easier way? Thanks, Stephen

Hello, I'm hoping for someone might point me in the right direction for this strange anomaly. At first, I wasn't sure what was producing the error but I have to do is login through IWP and on the first page, all I have to is click edit and then submit. This first page has two portals, one for the projects, and the second for the requests of those projects. A few "random" projects will duplicate their title within the projectName field. The summary field in a portal does not update automatically when values in field changes. I have to double click on the filed to update ... what's wong I'm doing?

Hello, I am beginning a project that includes a time table schedule for employees, based on 15 minute increments. The layout is for just one day at a time. Each employee is on a column, each row is a 15 minute increment. I am contemplating the best strategy to provide the cleanest interface with the most functionality. I was planning to use a portal for each employee column, and a separate field for each 15 min. increment (from 7AM to 9PM); but this seems like too many relationships, not to mention hard on reporting. Hi Everyone, I am having a problem with my Events Registration. I hope someone has a suggestion and thank you in advance! Whenever we register guests for an event, we sometimes put in duplicate names as temporary placeholders. For example, if someone buys 5 tickets but hasn't given us the names of all the guests. Once we get the names, we change the guest records accordingly. Unfortunately, the guest list (Guest Tab) won't sort properly (alphabetically by last name) based on the updated guests (see portal row 2 on the sample attached). using filemaker pro 11 I created a working portal that views INVENTORY items. Using a VENDER field I was able to get the to portal show only related records. (based on venders). The VENDER field is a drop down, value list, of venders. In addition to viewing inventory items for each vender, is there a way to view all of the inventory items regardless of vender. In other words .. is there a "view all records / command J" function for the portal. let me know if you need more specific information. jeff

I have a portal sorted in the Length_of_Time since i've spoken to a person, with those most recent at the top. If i haven't spoken to a person, their field is empty. Hello, I am at my wits end trying to figure out what is going on with my Events_Guest portal! For the most part, I have used the scripts and fields that came with the Events Management template. The technique for adding a portal record uses the contact ID field placed below the Full Name field, allowing a search using the last name. When participants sign up for a program, they are assigned a time slot. When the event is originally established, all the time slots are entered with a blank contact name. I don't know where to start with this one. Inside a portal I want to control both where the cursor is placed and limit text placement by calculation. I'm trying to mimic an outline display akin to Word where based on some set of conditions, i.e., some predetermined level/hierarchy structure, the cursor indents accordingly and restricts the placement of text to the left of the cursor placement within the portal row. In the past I've just used a calculation field placed on top of the text field in conjunction with some conditional formatting. I'm just wondering if anyone is aware of any other options to explore. The solution is basically a catalog of different legal documents (like deeds, mortgages, and so forth). These documents are reviewed in the context of writing a legal opinion, so the solution also tracks opinions. You could think of an opinion as a project. So it's possible that a document could be reviewed multiple times in the context of different opinions, thus a many to many relationship between documents and opinions. I have a layout with a Tab Control on it, housing 3 tabs. In each tab, I have a portal, all pointing to the same table occurrence, but displaying different data. 90% of the time, everything works fine. However, some of the time, when I click on a tab to switch to the data I want, the view switches to show everything as <Table Missing>, and sometimes, clicking on the 2nd or 3rd tab takes me to the 1st tab showing <Table Missing>. A second click on the desired tab causes the portal to refresh and show the proper data, but I can't figure out what's going wrong in the first place to fix it. Anyone have any ideas on how this can be fixed?

I have a portal with a long list of data. I have added two global fields so that the user can narrow down the results. I would like to do this real-time as they type into the global fields. I have the filter function working close enough, but what I can't seem to figure out is how to refresh the portal. I have a text field that contains a list of companies (from a contacts database). I want to be able to put this into a portal. The reason for this is to have the user be able to click on a line, and it go to a specified layout based on that. (If this is possible without doing it in a portal, then I am all ears also...) I have considered creating a table called Companies, that when someone updates the 'Company' field in the contact, it adds to this table. Hello again. Back with more on my food pantry solution. I'm trying to figure out now how to set up a portal from Session_Ops to Session_Volunteers to handle volunteer hours, sort of like a time and attendance module.  I've done up three attachments to show where I am. The problem is I can't seem to save the volunteer information for later retrieval. I envisoned that Session_Volunteers would hold all volunteer specific info like time_in and time_out in an historical context. I can't write it so that it properly saves the history.  Vol_1.jpg is what the layout looks like now. I can drop down and install volunteers at will. But Vol_2.jpg shows the Table…

I am using FM 12 v 3 (even if v3 is buggy)  I have a main layout based on Members:   On the left is another Members TOC called Members Portal  Everything works great.... except that when I press the right (or left) 'next record' arrows, FM goes to the next Record ID and not to the next Member's Name.  Here is the script I am using: (pretty simple)   Question: "How can I, regardless of recordID, advance to the next 'Member Name' and not next RecordID?  I am almost embarassed by what should be a pretty simple and common situation... but I am stumped. Can someone give me a 'kick start'?  Thanks

I have a simple portal that i have placed a button on the portal row. I have tried just running "delete portal row" I have also tried tying it to a script that has the command "delete portal row". The problem is that if I click the button the row does not delete. Once in a while I can open up filemaker and get it to work but it is very random. I have watched the script get called in "script debugger" and have no errors. But yet it does not delete the record. Any ideas? Thanks Thom

Have a database with 3 main tables: 1. Horse owner 2. Horse details 3. Visit Notes As one owner may have several horses, I have set up a simple portal on the Horse Owner layout which shows the 'Horse Name', and 'Date Last Modified' fields from the related Horse Details table. Obviously for a new client, the portal window is blank (no horse/s recorded yet). I want to put a simple button in the Horse Owner layout that switches to the Horse Details layout, with a new record created and ready to fill in - and related to the currently open Horse Owner. I have a portal that lists the number of steps in a process. I want, when you first select the portal, for it to populate Step # with 1. And then when going to the next line, Step # = 2. I've tried messing around with an auto enter calculation, but cannot seem to get it to trigger.

I have a portal sorted by a field 'Vendor Name' This field is text, but sometimes contains numbers, eg: Vendor 1. When I sort by this field in my portal all vendors that contain a number appear at the top of the portal, instead of under the appropriate letter. Is there a way to fix this? Cheers!

I have 3 tables: Designer, Styles, Messaging The Designer table has a portal containing records from Styles matched by DesignerID. StyleID goes from Styles to Messaging, and in each record in the Styles portal on the Designer layout, I want a portal displaying the matching records from Messaging. However, currently, the second portal shows ALL the records from the Messaging table, as opposed to the ones associated by StyleID. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I have a script that performs a number of find request and the last request I want to limit to the first row of a portal only. At the moment the script steps are: Go To Field: (selects the field in the portal) Go to Portal Row [select;First] Insert Calculated result( Enters the request data) Perform Find. I have a school administration application. On a Staff page that shows a Teacher's record, I have two portals. On the left, the portal shows a list of the Courses taught by that Teacher. Clicking on one of these portal rows displays the Students taking that Course in the right portal. A button next to the Student's names takes the user to a screen where he/she can enter the Student's grade for that Course. My problem: on returning to the Staff page, I've lost both portals' focus (they've both returned to line 1). Hi all to frame my problem i have patients that may have varying numbers of medical procedures/histories. I can easily make a portal from my main database table to a child table using the patient ID as the related field. This allow me to enter in the medical history for that patient using a portal rather than a repeating field. however to make this UI nice i would like to have one portal that is used to enter new records (histories) displaying only one row "ie the new one" and one portal below it that display the histories already entered for that patient (standard portal with scroll bar type look) Any ideas how i would go about doing this? I have a portal that all of the records are showing the same information as the first record. The table holding the portal is called Vendors, and the portal is built from Purchase Orders. When a purchase order is added some of the fields show the data from the first record, such as Image, date, etc. However, some show from the correct information. I've noticed that the fields that are being repeated are ones from a related table Styles which is related to Purchase Orders through Style ID. I don't really understand why this happens?

I am creating a contacts database for use by members of my staff at a not-for-profit charity The main screen is the Contacts Layout. On this layout is an Add Donation button which goes to a Donation entry screen where donation details are entered. When these details are entered, the user clicks a button which should return them to the main Contacts screen - with donation details displayed in the portal. PROBLEM: When I am on the Donation entry screen and the Return button is pressed, Filemaker Pro exits. I'm looking to implement drag and drop sorting on a portal but running into a problem. On a large portal where you scroll through the records, you cannot scroll while dragging an item. I'm thinking if there was a way to do this, Excelisys would have included it in their example. Anyone experience this problem before? When you preview you can copy to grab a screenshot of the page being previewed. My portals aren't copying. Is that just how it works?

I am trying to have a portal with records that contain a container. This container is to store either a video or audio file, and hence I am trying to use the enhanced interactive features. However, the container seems to stop working when put into a portal, outside of a portal it works fine, but inside I cannot even add a audio/video file to it. Has anybody come across this before? My situation is similar to a dictionary: some of the larger dictionaries will have a discussion attached to a word definition, showing how a word and its similar words vary and how to use them in different situations. I have a field in a portal that I wish to filter by, let's call it Time. Time may be 8am, 9am, etc. I have created a field called FilterTime, which contains values: 8am, 9am, etc. etc. and displayed it as a checkbox set across the top of the portal. Hi, when i check the option to "allow creation of related records", in a relationship, a blank row will be added to my portal ... what can i do to never show the blank portal row until it is needed? i don't wanna go to another format ... add new record ... then come back to see my new record on the portal ... this cause on an iPad with fmgo an orrible refresh of windows ... can't use conditional formatting to hide the row ... the underground of my portal is transparent ... let it show the underground image. thank you. Dear all, I have been through the forum, and I have realised that printing portals isn't great (in my case I have blank fields and can't get the correct headline). My parent table includes 2 portals with data from 2 DIFFERENT tables. I have tried the following approaches: Solution 1: Print the portals: Advantage: I am able to print only the populated lines of the portal, and it shows exactly the data I want Inconvenient: It is very space consuming as the portal lines won't resize. We have a solution running in v12. Its a robust solution that is heavily trafficed. Oddly, on one of the machines (running 10.6.8 and FMP 12.2) data is not appearing in a couple of filtered portals. The exact same record and layout on a different machine (running 10.6 and FMP 12.1) the portal data does appear. If we turn the portal filter off the data suddenly does display. The offending filter reads: tic.LIN_Lines~RentalsOnly::zkf_ItemID ≠ 28286 and tic.LIN_Lines~RentalsOnly::_zkfModel ≠ "BSKT" It is filtering out a specific type of line item and product. Is there a known glitch? Any one have any thoughts?

Hi Friends, I am working on a Contact Management / Marketing Campaign Database. At its core is a many-to-many relationship connected through a Join Table connecting Campaigns and Companies. I'm building a layout that strives to collapse a lot of functionality on one screen, called the Campaign Tracker. It shows the records of each company associated with a given campaign with notes specific to each and a portal to each company's contacts. When Outlook 2010 and FM are open at the same time, if I click to change to a different mailbox (sent,inbox unread etc...) the FM window on the other monitor flickers until the Outlook program has finished painting the new window! So I have a portal, and I am using a tiered group of conditional value lists to populate some the field data (This works). The problem I am having is when I get to the last drop down and make a selection, I would like that last selection to populate a merge field with data. This data is located in the same table as the last drop down. For example: The last selection is part number and based on the part number, I want to display a description of that part. In our portal, we have a Start Date and a Start Time field (popup value list of times). These fields let an instructor indicate the day and time they started a session. When an instructor completes the session they can start a new session and time on a new portal row. A small problem we have is that an instructor may start their session today at 1:00 p.m., then for their next session (on a new portal row) they may accidentally select 1:00 p.m. again (instead of 1:15 p.m.). Is there a way to stop them from entering the same start time for any of today's sessions. Michelle

Hello Board, I really like the idea of portals, or what i think they are, but i don't get it. I'm new to building db's. I have a table that records a job process. There is a 'Job Number' and then the individual processes that occur are added as New Records with that Job Number being the same. When someone enters a Job Number into the field, i'd like a Portal to show the other records that also have that same Job Number. I would also like to count how many records there are that are in that portal, matching that Job number. Is that possible? Hi There, I have come up with a way of inserting/deleting records in a portal similar to how you would insert/delete in excel. If you could please evaluate and comment, I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking to see if anyone finds anything that I have not considered with regards to this process. The idea is that you want the records in the portal to be shown in the order they are entered, unless you insert a row between two records... you will see what I mean by looking at the file attached. I hope to see in my portal a series of images My Mac DB fmp12 has an ID relationship with another DB where I have the images In the portal I create I can see the images, however I hope to be able to display them "horizontally" or, if possible, create rows and columns kind of design I hope be able to see as many images is possible rather than scrolling veriticaly. I have two portals on the context of Staff layout. The first portal the enduser picks the program initiative and corresponding person. The second portal is used to display only those records above that correspond with ID_PROIN_fk=17. These are the tables I am working with: Orders OrdersLineItems Items The Orders table holds just basic data - OrderID, SuppliedID, Date... while all the actual details are added into the OrdersLineItems (through a portal). In the OrderLineItems table I have an ItemID, which I have set to be a value list coming from the ItemID's in the Items table. This all works fine. Hi all, I'm working on a solution in FM12 which requires me to filter a rather large record set (100,000+). Typically for performance reasons I would filter at the relationship level so that only a very small subset of records is returned to me over the network. However I've heard talk in FM12 that portal filtering is meant to behave much faster and - dear I say it - be carried out server-side? So in my testing the only way I've managed to get the portal filtering to actually behave the same as relationship filtering in terms of performance is to only reference hard-coded text strings in the filter, eg: Portal::Field = "Blah" Now, this is fine fo…

Hi, I'm looking for some help with making multiple images appear in one portal. I have nearly no experience in database building or FileMaker, so please forgive me for my ignorance. What I'm trying to do is making two rows of images (2x approx. 10 images) appear in the lay-out mode. The way my database is organised, is that there's one table containing names and data of different photographers and the second table consists of front and backsides of photographs in containers. Hello all I have one layout and I would like to display two portals, each from a different table, to display and enter data. Seems simple but my layout is tied to one of the tables and I would like to display data from the other one. I know they need to be related but not sure what field I need to relate them with. Each table consists of two fields, one is the id field or key.

I haven't been able to find a previous query on this one . . . I have a portal displaying child data, displaying several Fields -- say there are 5 columns in the portal -- and I have little text objects above the portal labelling these fields. Is there a way to turn these labels into buttons that would sort the Portal Records according to that field? Obviously, this is a easy to do when you're doing a list view of a single table -- but is there a means of getting into the portal context to sort them? m I'm not seeing it . . . thanks!

I have a home asset table with a item field among other fields. I also have two other tables name category and location with a category and location text field, respectively. In one layout with a tab, I have two portals (see attachment). The left will list my categories and the right I hope to list my items that are located in the location area. I am not sure what relationships are needed to get this to work. Once I get the category to work, I will do the same for the location tab. The layout is based on the category table for now but that is probably wrong i Know.

How can I get a sum of all the values from all rows in a given field of a portal? I have a line items portal on an Invoice layout. I need the total of each charge in the line items to be displayed outside the portal (in the rest of the invoice) and be able to use that in another calculation. Hi, I have a bucket load of hosted databases and am trying to do a new menu layout. I attach a cut-down version of the menu. The previous version had layouts with links hard written onto each layout. In the new version, I've used a portal so when the user clicks on a practice area, the portal displays only those databases for that section. See attached screenshot. I have set up a script parameter that returns the portal row but how can I get the name of the field. Hi All, i am working on a database for asset management and am currently working on an efficient way of setting locations for stored assets right now i have created a table with box serial number field and fields which specify location data eg room, shelf etc and am trying to show this data in a portal within the asset detail layout when the user selects the box from a drop down on the asset page. so far i have had very little success and i have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with global fields but im not sure how to approach the problem? any help would be much appreciated cheers

My solution consists of: Benefits Sheets Personnel Rates Benefit Posting On the Benefits Sheet, you have a blend of the payroll entry date; personnel date like name, etc., including the rates of benefits and a portal to Benefit Posting so that you can have a list for who received benefits in a given payroll. The payroll entry date is utilized to determine the benefit that each employee receives. On that date, I am eligible for so many vacation/sick hours. Hi, I have a filtered and sorted portal. I need to be able to perform finds on the fields within the filtered portal. I am able to enter find mode and enter data in a field but when I click enter, the rows it finds are not correct. Is this possibly due to the filter? In turn, there are 4 different publisher fields, all with drop down menus that populate from records in the Publishers table. I set up multiple instances of the Publishers table, one for each publisher field in the Music Albums table. Hello, I'm trying to create a database for document management. As part of it I want to create a portal showing revisions (a revision code; date of; and a description), but whenever I try to create a portal (or copy and paste one from a template) it is blank, even after I define the fields. I think this will be a problem with the relationships I've established but I'm not sure how to fix it - could anyone help me? Thank you!

In the database I've created, information in one portal causes information in another record's portal to change and it should not. The records are almost 300 records apart from one another and should not be related. Not all aspects of the record are affected, only one specific portal. What should I do to change this? Thank you.

Anchoring the portal to the base of page stretches fields inside (which is great). If you have the 'create new record row' at the base of the portal it become obscured. Does anyone know any workaround so that it is visible? (v12) Actually on further investigation many rows are obscured.

We converted one of our solutions to FM 12 from FM 11. There is a report layout with body records that contain a portal that can display 3 or 4 child records. The portal row contains 3 text fields. The layout objects are set to slide up and reduce the size of the enclosing part. The report has worked correctly FM 3-11. The problem is that the child records in the portal rows sometimes fail to display in preview mode. Some records display the child records in the portal, others display only the first record. The portals display correctly in browse mode as list view or form view, Remove sliding, they display correctly in preview. I have rebuild the portals on…

I have a portal that on tabbing to the next field I have a script trigger that jumps to another layout to snag some values to auto fill some additional fields in the portal. The problem is as the scripts finishes and returns to the original layout the original layout is scrolled all the way to the top. Even though the focus of the cursor is in the correct field in the portal down below. Is there any way to scroll back down (I tried a script step to scroll to selection but that didn't work). I have a fairly simple portal that the first field is a quantity. When I enter a number in a new row and tab to the second field the number is reset back to zero. If I click back in the field and override the zero it is fine. It is like when I tab to the next field that the record is created and then it sets a default value. I have checked and there is no script triggers on the portal, the quantity field There is no default value for the database field. Scratching my head. Thanks Thom

I have a portal that sorts by timestamp... in descending order; once the enduser commits the record the new portal record moves up tothe top of the list to become the first portal row. I to to create a trigger to populate a field [Deactivate] boolean, with "1" on any portal rows other than row #1. Any suggestions on how I might accomplish this?
