I'm relatively new to FM, and have received a lot of amazing feedback from some amazing people -- including all the moderators -- regarding my incessent beginner oriented questions. Who "runs" this web site? I ask because right now I'm contributing a meager $5 or $10 per quarter to assist in running the web site, but am toying with increasing that substantially. Do you guys break even, etc?

I notice that the forum software has become very proactive in preventing vertical spacing. For example, it will not let me open a new section after giving a code example: here's some code This is an entirely different section and ideally I would want to have at least two empty lines between it and the preceding text. Like I can when it's text sections only (see immediately below). The other thing is that if I mistakenly put two or more consecutive spaces in the text, they are not merged into one. IMHO, these two behaviors should be reversed.

A long time ago in a version of this sites software, we were able to select a portion of the text from a post, and then use Quote button for it to be used in the new Reply. Is there any chance that we can re-incorporate this feature in this or a future site software release? Currently, when you Quote a post, the Forum includes the whole post, and then you have to then remove from it that portion you don’t need in your reply, or leave it and be unclear as to what you are quoting. OR, Copy that portion you need, and then use the quote button in your Reply. This isn’t as clean because, you don’t get the OP’s name so that it can be a problem following the thre…

13 of the 25 unread/new posts listed on my browser (and i check in often) are about 360 Works software. Although i'm not a user of SuperContainer or other 360 Works software, i can appreciate many are users. However i thought this forum was about filemaker and not plugins except when necessary. I welcome input to set me straight about this.

Since yesterday or so, the "New content" page does not update correctly. A topic I just replied to shows 0 replies and 0 views. Other topics are "frozen in time", too.

Hi Stephen, This forum logs onto a Home page which does not make it easy for new people. I have had many folks say they don't come here because they never could figure out how to even post a question. Part of the problem stems from the fact that, upon opening, it goes to HOME. If you look at Home, there is nowhere it shows how to start a new post which is exactly why most people come here. Even after registering or signing in, the way to start a new post is not obvious. When I try and log into the forum, I get a message stating that I am blocked for 15 minutes. There is a counter that counts down to zero and then I can log in. Anyone know what that is about?

Image sites give the user a "Like" button that links the image to a library for future reference for that logged in user. Is this available here on the FM Forum ?? I find topics I know I will want to reference at a later date and would love a way to organize them in one place here on this forum. It would be great to have a "Like" or "Love" button that would allow the login user to have a list of post for later reference. Thxs LaRetta, I changed it. I think that our wording for this function is a bit misleading. After all, what does "Mark Solved" imply? It's nice when the member lets us know when they have received a solution to their question and the Mark Solved button does that, I also like it when they can provide a thank you to who provided it. Maybe we can change this to make it better. I'll ask Ocean West if there is a way to have our cake and eat it too. Lee

I thought that I would get notifications via email from replies to posts, here in the forums. I have an email address setup in my profile settings but I am not seeing any email notifications. What am I missing? Thanks.

I need to know how to convert older thread links into active links. I know it was discussed at one point but I can no longer find it. An example: This link and post #22 shows a link to an old post. Hi Stephen, We have always been able to download attachments even if not signed in. Currently that isn't the case ( at least not in my attempts ... MacBookPro 10.8.4 and Safari 6.0.5 ). It was an ability about FMForums that I really liked because sometimes I provide links to external sources and they may not wish to register to take advantage of a download. For some time I have been unable to log in without checking 'Remember me'. I don't like checking that box on sites as I end up forgetting the password. Recently I could not even do that - my login would be accepted but I would not be logged in. Another problem is that when I click on 'New Content' it always comes up with 'No New Content' but then I click again and I have the new content. Are these fixable? Norman

When someone posts a question and I want to upload a sample file for them, where and how am I supposed to do this?

I was replying to a post and copied and pasted a calculation between [ code ] and [ /code ] tags. The post preview showed a whole load of <div> and <p> tags. Note that I typed in the tags, not using the toolbar. This didn't used to happen. Did some forum setting change?

I was just trying to post a question in the Filemaker Server Forum But I'm getting the message: "You must select a topic prefix to post in this forum" But the dropdown for Topic Prefix isn't there. In fact I had no idea what it was talking about until I started this post and noticed that this one has the Topic Prefix dropdown.

It appears we have exceeded the limits of the RAM on our server so it had taken us off line several times the past few days we've got new RAM going in and this should keep us online. sorry for the inconvenience.

I've seen several posts reporting they cannot attach a file - and neither can I. After selecting a file and clicking 'Attach This File', there comes an error message saying "Error No file was selected for upload".

Hi Stephen, I cannot delete a post I started or responded on a thread - the delete button is gone. This I just noticed a few hours ago. Also I cannot change a demo file that I attached to a post which was just three days prior. You had changed that so we could edit our posts and replace files back, further than 3 days but I might be mistaken. This I noticed a few days ago. :^)

I just joined this forum site hoping to find some help. First I went to the Articles, Tips, Techniques & Solutions page. However on there is says to please DO NOT post FileMaker questions or requests in that forum. This forum (Feedback & Site News) says it is not for FileMaker support... and the only other thing I see is Blogs. Where can I go to ask a question of more seasoned developers? I am coming to the conclusion that the forum's search engine is completely off its rocker. Hi Stephen, This has been going on for quite some time but I knew you were upgrading the forum so I didn't mention it before. If, before I sign in, I go to the Forums tab (http://fmforums.com/forum/index/), and try to sign in from there, the screen dims (like it does on all tabs when I try to sign in) but the log-in dialog never appears - it just sits there with dimmed screen. Signing in from all other tabs works fine. Firefox 13.0 Windows XP Professional SP3 Firefox was just updated to 13.0. It also did it on the prior version. UPDATE: This is not a rush fix ... Brand new to the forum and FM, so please don't flame me if I'm missing something simple here. I am trying to upload something from FM12 to the forum for some advice, and the control prohibits *.fmp12 files from being uploaded. Should paid for content appear in a forum? This appears to be akin to advertising. I am not referring to product announcements though I would prefer these to be clearly flagged. It is the ISO Filemaker ones that annoy me. Editing a post rarely works properly for me. I usually use Google Chrome browser, but just tested in FireFox with the same result. (I couldn't even load the site from IE 9) After clicking "edit", the option to "Use Full Editor" almost never works for me (but I think it has worked a few times, not sure why or what the scenario was). After editing, and clicking "Save Changes", the change is made, but the edit dialog does not go away. (I had to open a new tab to browse to the post and confirm it was edited) The "Cancel" button doesn't always close the edit dialog.

I usually use the wysiwyg editor, and I've been ending up with html tags in my posts lately. So, to clarify; I write a post with the wysiwyg editor, it all looks fine, then I post it and the post has html tags (like in the above link).

Hi Stephen, FM Forums used to automatically display misspelled words for us (with red underline). I notice that, some time after an upgrade, that has disappeared. I thought that maybe the new forum software just didn't have that function but I just saw when creating a private message, that it works automatically in private messages. I never make mistaks in speling but some folks do. It would sure be helpful to have this option bak. FM Forums is the most user-friendly, organized and simple forum site out there. I noticed a while ago, there were no birthdays on a particular day about a month ago. How odd, I thought. When my birthday rolled around I noticed the list was still empty, and I wasn't on the list of birthdays today. I know this feature used to work, but it looks like that is no longer true. I have a sample file I uploaded that got reported as broken. I has resolved the issue and uploaded a new version. How do I remove the "This file has been reported broken" text at the top of the page?

Hi Stephen, I noticed that when I receive an email of a post, part of the text is dropped out when it includes a calculation with brackets. I noticed it once before and I thought it was fluke. I would have suspected it breaks when not entered between Code tags but Daniele's does it as well. What arrives in the email is everything removed between Let() list brackets as: Let ( ; Case ( ... rest of calc Here is example where I received two emails missing calculation information. I tried to a attach a Filemaker file to a reply and got the following message: Teams.fp7 You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file So i cant be thats it a fp7 file, so either im not good enough or something is a miss? the file is only 92K, and im on a MacBook Pro running Leopard, using Safari.

I like your website. But I can't figure how to make something work right. When I go to New Content and set to FORUMS and PAST 24 HOURS, I expected to see all responses to this website including one I made and it is not in the list. Do our own posts not show when we request 'last 24 hours' and how do I make ALL posts show. Hello; i have had on two occassions have errors telling me that i have posted more media than allowed and this is basically with only 2 links to youtube. I am completely confused and usually wrap the post of media in tags. I am sure that is not what i should be doing, but perhaps someone can look into this matter. thanks, -ian

Is there a way to disable the member info popup which appears when your mouse hovers over a member name in a forum?

I often point to the same demos over and over again. Since I cannot search for posts that have attachments, I'm left with my poor memory to find the appropriate demo file. I miss Comment's blog page. Can we create something similar?

I noticed that I wasn't able to sign when I try to use the connection component which appears on the top of the right side bar. Everytime I try to connect, it brings me to the wrong login information page.

There is something very wrong with the way the search works (or doesn't). For example, I searched for posts with the word "variable" and me as the author. The first (latest) post found is from 19 July 2011. I know I have used the term later than that - in fact, I have used it several times today, a few hours before performing the search. For members trying to login with twitter - you may need to login with your local account and reset your twitter connection - I had to reset the API keys so existing members using twitter connect will need to reset this connection. Manage Twitter Connection

Since the last update (which looks good) the first time I click 'View New Content' the pane where the comments appear is blank. I click again and they appear. On XP SP3, Google Chrome.

This is the second time I have noticed a weird thing with attachments in old posts transferred over from the previous software: Please go to: http://attic.fmforums.com/forum/showpost.php?post/364244/ and download the attachment. Now go to the new version of the same post, and download the same(?) attachment: http://fmforums.com/forum/topic/73552-isolating-records-witin-portals/page__p__348086#entry348086 The downloaded zip files are named the same - but the newer one contains a completely different file!!!

What happened to this option? It was there when the software was upgraded, but it's missing now.

Why can't I search the forums for: 'webviewer pdf' or even 'webviewer adobe' ?

I may be testing and switching to login by email - to help the "forgot my username" type requests. And to hope reduce spammers. You may need to update your AutoLogin password programs.

The new site has changed how we store images for your Avatar / Photo. And no longer uses hosted or offsite URLs for images. Change your photo... The profile picture doesn't have to be square however all the thumbnails on the site are square images. there is a tool that allows you to specify a crop area. Note too if you use Facebook or Twitter to log in you may specify which image you wish to associate with your account.

I can't find my notes - they used be under My Settings, IIRC.

I have turned on Sphinx search engine that will allow you full text search and include 3 character words... like "let function" as long as you wrap your terms in quotes. Cheers Stephen

Is six months of using the new forum software enough to say it sucks? I know the idea of moving again can be a horrifying prospect - but I think it's worth considering nevertheless.

Is there any chance you could host this documentation on this site? Or, is there anyone else who hosts it that you can link to? More then once I have wanted to reference it in response to a question, but it is hosted locally on my FMP Server computer.

Hello Site Administrators, My title went from novice to Advanced Member and I have something like 32 posts. I did not change that title and actually do not see where it could be changed. After I couldn't find where to change it, I asked Bruce, a fellow member, and he said, "Regarding the "Advanced Member" thing I don't know how that gets started. I was labeled Pooh-bah for a while; and I did not give that label to myself. Some admin with a sense of humor maybe. But you can go to your profile and change it I believe." Hello, All I want to do is see new questions. I find this is not as simple as it was with the previous site. In fact, I find this site confusing. The position of menu items seems to change depending where I am. I admit that I mostly find upgrades to sites an impediment to accessing information. A good example is here where Ron answered and gave the solution to his original question in the thread. We had a hard drive failure; after restoring from a backup all posts and new registrations dated January 5th. were lost. We apologize for the inconvenience, and reviewing alternatives prevent a future loss of this nature. ( this was a site wide announcement that i have moved to this thread )

I'd love to automagically Subscribe to / Watch any topic that I start or post in. Instead of having to remember to click the button. Preferably it would be a user setting so those who don't want that behavior don't have to suffer it.

In the Profile Settings, under Certification, 8 is repeated twice and 9 not at all.

The "Insert quotation" and "Insert code snippet" buttons no longer work in Fast Reply. I thought it had something to do with the snow - but the snow has stopped and the buttons still don't work.

I wish to insert a new CF in the Custom Function Library. I write something into all the fields but parameter ( this CF has no parameter ), but the result is: [color:red]The following problems were found with this form: Subject cannot be empty. Body cannot be empty.
